And McPalin’s really shitty week just got worse.
ABC News’ David Wright reports: At a joint rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa Thursday, Republican John McCain slammed the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) for being "asleep at the switch" saying that if he were president, he would fire Chris Cox, the chairman of the SEC since 2005 and a former Republican congressman.
Hellz yeah! You tell ‘em Maverick!
Except…
But while the president nominates and the Senate confirms the SEC chair, a commissioner of an independent regulatory commission cannot be removed by the president.
Bah. Since when do Republicans care what the Constitution says?
As an aside, Palin had her own gaffes at this campaign stop. She referred to the ticket as "Palin and McCain" — and,
Palin stumbled out of the gate on arriving in Cedar Rapids. The Alaska governor told the audience that she was thrilled to be in “Grand Rapids,” the Michigan city where the campaign had just overnighted.
Like a well-oiled machine, these two.

Is that suit really purple?
But would he fire the prime minister of Spain?
I hear McCain’s cancer is raging and he is losing his mind!! [edited by Mod] After that, I guess Palin will take over.
President of Spain you mean.
Law? They don’t care bout no stinkin law.
He’d better fire Sarah since she’s putting her name atop his ticket — or at least hire a food taster.
heh
If you have any kind of proof let’s see it. Otherwise that is unsubstantiated gossip of the worst kind.
After that, I guess Palin will take over.
that ship may have already sailed….
Seriously, what happens if a candidate is unable to make it to the finish line? Oh wait. That was Cheney’s plan all along wasn’t it? He will step in and make everything OK . . .
“WHAT? I can’t fire him! Well my friends, I’ll just have Chris Cox targeted by Special Forces. I can still do THAT, can’t I?? WHAT!?“
Now you’ve done it.
Let’s not escalate the wishes of harm on anyone please?
Looks like Boris and Natasha had better start dressing like the Pope and a Nun to remind everyone how really religious they are. That’s sure to change the subject for a while.
OT – ok, So the talk is that the government is going to maybe create a new agency “that would buy *toxic* mortgage-related debt from troubled banks.”
am I the only person failing to see the brilliance of this? The Dow sure seems to like it.
A new agency, created to acquire – well, *shit*. And then what? Is there a big market for shit that I’ve previously been unaware of?
Can’t St. McCain get his pal the Decider to change that inconvenient commisioner firing rule with one of his signing statements?
Blue Texan,
He said he didn’t know so much about economics, get off his back!!
He’s an oldster, cut him the slack he’s entitled to that as a POW, didn’t you know he was a POW?
Sarah is apparently upstaging McCain at their joint rallies. He should have gone with Loserman, who makes his ewnergy level look good by comparison. The Republiks have taken someone on who is literally out of control. They don’t like it one bit; no control freak would.
I thought you were opposing the wishing of ham there…
Anti-pork. But bacon is still fine.
Good Afternoon Blue Texan and Firedogs
SEC Chair Chris Cox was confirmed by unanimous voice vote late 7/05 – just in case anyone wondered how McPalin voted
Palin/McCain ‘08 – “Hey, we’re BOTH insane!”
good save. *g*
That was done during the 80s to clean up the S&L foobar
There was a Republic President then as well. Probably just a coincidence, right?
I’ve known folks who claimed to be vegetarian who would “fall off the wagon” from smelling bacon cooking.
That might have been the last time McCain showed up for work.
Of course, that assumes McCain was actually there to vote…
One one level I’m so delighted about this but on another I’m also very sad-to watch a ticket for national office self-destruct right before our eyes.
The Republican campaign is looking more and more like a Coen brothers movie: “What the FUCK!”
Paging Ian Welsh; paging Ian Welsh.
Actually, doesn’t this fit into some of his posts? Seems like it would solve the problem of bailing out entire companies and having to remove their CEOs and meddle in their business dealings without really owning them, it seems. Then they could really set the floor on the real estate market and do all those wonderful things that Ian recommended. Maybe I’m just dreaming…
Don’t underestimate those people….I won’t rest until they are actually out…
So, exactly what has he learned from all this “Washington experience,” of which he says he has more than his opponent, and is therefore more qualified to be president?
– He doesn’t know who the PM of Spain and that Spain is an ally.
– He doesn’t understand the limits of presidential authority.
– He doesn’t know the difference between Shiite and Sunni.
Experience does not lead to competence in those incapable of paying attention. His Washington experience seems to have taken about as much as his Annapolis experience where he finished near the bottom of his class.
Knowledge is elitist.
Some folks have twenty plus years of experience.
Some folks have one year of experience repeated twenty plus times.
Baroness Von Rothschild supports McCain/Palin…that about says it all.
IMHO, that was courtesy of your Democratic majority congress!
I should add to my #35, sad to say.
Yes the market is us.
Shovel some more in.
Delicious, huh?
Yeah, chew it up before you swallow it.
Open wide, here comes some more.
Why doesn’t the government just give everybody a 40-year fixed rate mortgage, and let all the middlemen and speculators fail? Seems to me that would be cheaper (?) and actually, you know, fix the problem.
In case this Administration is missing the point, the problem isn’t Wall Street speculators losing their shirts. They’ll be fine. The problem is Americans losing their homes.
Brad Blakeman, Republican shill, responds to Noron:
Noron: “Brad, we’re getting reports that people at McCain rallies are *walking out* after Palin speaks. Isn’t this a problem?”
Blakeman – “Nah, people already know John McCain.”
yeah, that must be it, Brad.
Republics only want to give things to their cronies, so that just won’t do.
That would make a great Obama campaign line.
“Surely Americans will merely move to one of their other seven homes like I do”…McCain.
The teaxpayer’s sure are generous, aren’t they? The chumps will fall for anything!
Or Germany
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfealLrWLIY
Besides, McCain’s actually Audio-Animatronic! They’ll just keep changing the programming until he does stuff that makes people want to stay.
Geez, I didn’t see that one…when was that?
Sit! Wolfie predictably fluffin’ for Palin-McCain ticket as lead-in to his show.
If they don’t have second or seventh homes, they can move to Crawford, TX. There’s plenty of space on the Bush Brush Ranch for a huge tent city.
More Sanchez, less Wolf.
Notice, though, how Noron softens the blow:
versus
Yup.
mcLame and Lady mcLame – becoming a comedy routine.
They’ll just keep changing the programming until he does stuff that makes people want to stay.
huh. I just assumed that people were figuring that if they were gonna be put to sleep, they’d rather be at home when it happens….
Hopefully they are heading for a Martin & Lewis ending.
been having intermittent connection issues the last few days
so I don’t know if this has been covered:
Jack Cafferty brings up Privatizing Social Security
Senile John McBush on The Plunge Protection Team
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcdLO3jKkPo
Why stop there?
- He doesn’t know how many houses he has.
- He doesn’t know what kind of car he has.
- He clearly wouldn’t know his ass from a hole in the ground.
But he wants to be POTUS. Ridiculous.
Can’t remember exactly. Sometime before Iowa I think
Digg and Reddit this post!
He doesn’t know the difference between Shiite and Sunni.
He doesn’t know the difference between shit and shinola.
funny how close those read, huh?
Who says he can’t feel our pain? McCain faces EIGHT times as much risk of foreclosure as the average American.
o/t
John –
former Sacramentan here with a question. while checking on CalPERS at Sac Bee the other day, the article said Sacramento unemployment is at 7.3%
this is 1.3 pts higher than so called national average. Sac has always had a lower than avg number – even with the loss of McClelland and other bad times. what the hell is going on ???
doesn’t that man in the picture look like a combination of steve martin and don rikkles?
He’s got to be out of his mind.
in case you didn’t see the link – Jack brought up the fact that McClueless was all for privatizing SS -
He is mentally infirm, doddering.
Wowzah! Obama live in Espanola. Firing SEC commissioner fine in good. But in 47 days you can fire this whole administration, this failed economic policy.
Yes you can.
Oh and John McCain has been stealing my lines.
my entry;
there, that’s the ticket
Sure is.
I think its time for a ”Hugh’s List” of what McPalin doesn’t know.
Tweety was on this morning, and said to imagine if Social Security had been privatized the way Bushco wanted it to be…checks would be mighty small right about now for retirees..not a pretty picture. McCain still wants to privatize it.
I want him to steal my ideas…change isn’t just a slogan.
Headline at HuffPo:
if social security were privatised, those investments would be the first thing that this economy laid to waste
can’t be lurchin’ around back and forth between positions…need steady leadership.
Everytime I go over to HuffPo my computer blows up…I don’t know why. What are they saying???
What did steve & don ever do to you?
(He does, though!)
really, how much is Obama paying these guys ?
From TPM:
Because, in McCain’s mind, stock only goes up!
daily improvisation has characterized policy the past year.
3 point plan
here’s a youtube, caferty does a really good job
http://www.crooksandliars.com/…..good-idea/
Obama giving the same speech he gave yesterday.
crap.
He did add one line – “John McCain can’t decide if he’s Barry Goldwater or Dennis Kucinich.”
rut-roh. Obama said “that dog won’t hunt”. Clearly a shot at the hockey pit-bull, doncha know.
Obama: We need to get serious to get mortgages restructured for struggling families, so they can stay in their homes..
cafferty is PUNISHING the concept of privitizing ss, he points out exactly what I pointed out, those accounts would be worthless if they were private
what he misses is ss is much more then a retirement fund…but that’s another discussion
What are you watching it on?
This might be more like it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eo0OY8GOuc
jobs program to rebuild our infrastructure, our schools, keep people in their homes.
If you have one home, judge can’t modify your mortgage…but if you have seven homes….
here’s the answer to “restructuring” those loans;
“homeowners will have the lowest rate they bought their mortage, the industry will take those payments or award the homeowner ownership”
there, that fixes it perfect
that is the nature of stump speeches…updated for the day’s events/news.
He’s sounding great.
With this team, the Palin-McInsane ticket, why is it that the Press gives them more coverage than more thoughtful and steady Ron Paul or Cynthia McKinney?
Compared to this pair, Paul and McKinney seem MUCH more the legitimate candidates.
MSNBC, though since I’ve pause the DVR a few times, I’m a coupla minutes behind….
John McCain doesn’t have seven homes. Cindy McCain has seven homes and lets John stay there or there or there or….
I didn’t read much, but in the comments I posted an answer: “Dementia pugilistica — for details see …” and included a link to Kirk Murphy’s Brainwatch article.
just as our front pagers do, Arianna is tearing up on his ass (did you see last night’s “Lost” ? – too damn funny)
I check the site a couple a times a day because the media lemmings regularly read and riff off her front page
check Politico for the same reason :D
yeah.
He kinda blew the “that’s a McCain staff meeting” joke today, though.
Good move.
I must be impressed with mccain, cindy would have seemed way over his head to me.
Maybe I spoke too soon. I like what he’s saying about bankruptcy and IRS reform.
Here’s that HuffPo link: The Big Whisper: What’s Up With John McCain?
Don’t have any data but just a wild stab …
Housing … foreclosures. There were a lot of people who got sucked into the ARMs. Lots of ads on the radio. The Bee did numerous stories on how people with no credit or bad credit were able to buy houses that they should have had no business even thinking of buying. People thinking their home equity would last forever. Houses that went for – I don’t know – 150-200 thousand in the late 90’s then selling for 3-400 thousand. People from the bay area would get together and invest in homes so they could rent them out – which drove the houses even higher.
Then the piper had to be paid
Easy loans that didn’t start resetting until this year. Housing construction has slowed. Used car lots have gone out of business which points to something deeper. Furniture stores closing – more than the gimmic “going out of bis” sale.
Gas prices. People with more moderate incomes began to more rural counties because the homes there sold for less. But the commutes are longer.
Heckava job there Republicans
Just off the top of my head
Forgive if already posted.
Shocker: Palin cancels California stump sweep…
Sit! Wolfie having trouble spittin’ out that screechin’ Sarah had trouble spittin’ out an answer to a question within her area of expertise.
And teasing Trump coming up…with new endorsement?
That has pretty much been my position…though I DO go further now given the most recent mega bailout of the rich (AIG). Now I demand that if it is fine and dandy for the Fed to bailout the rich and connected, then it is only fair that they also bailout ALL middle class (and lower) persons who have a mortgage on their home. The Fed should pay off all the mortgages and hand everyone title to their homes.
In for penny, in for a frickin’ pound biotch!
By the by, a stipulation of any bailout for any of these companies (and it should be retroactive) is the surrender of any and ALL golden parachutes held by the execs that have crashed the companies.
“Sure, we’ll bail out your company! Oh yeah, you are now destitute by the way. We are seizing your plunder, err…your assets.”
me likey
Yup. That was great.
Tula upstairs on Community Organizers
OT just sticking this here again from WaPo today
http://www.washingtonpost.com/…..63_pf.html
“Premier Election Solutions, the company that makes many of the nation’s voting machines, last month acknowledged that software used in 34 states, including Virginia and Maryland, could cause votes to be dropped. The company, formerly called Diebold, said it has no fix for the problem now, but election officials can catch the errors and recover the votes through a routine process of double-checking electronic memory cards.
Any weak spots in the process in November, whether poorly trained poll workers, a confusing ballot design or faulty equipment, will be further stressed by turnout, including many first-time voters.”
am i the last to know about this name change? does it matter? feels like it should
Tula’s talking about community organizers.
Crooks and Liars has a pic of Macaca Allen
http://www.crooksandliars.com/…..aca-allen/
He’s on the far right
thanks!
fyi – grew up in Land Park. family still there.
I knew housing had something to do with it – isn’t Natomas a giant financial sink hole about now ? lots of misery to go around.
your response makes sense although I am still troubled by seeing it above the natl avg – never seen that in numerous downturns
thanks again.
He’s on the far right
didn’t we already know that? *g*
“hard to understand” answer says Sit! Wolfie of Screechin’ Sarah’s response on energy question.
incoherent is the word you were looking for, Wolfie.
John “Backstabber” McCain. He did it to the others in the Keating 5. He ratted them out then he made profits.
Deja Vu all over again. I can’t find the video anymore but remember when McHOOVER gushed all over Michael Brown and voted to confirm him as FEMA’s head f*ck-up?
I’m anxious to see Ian’s reaction to the proposal to form another entity to take and then ultimately dispose of their bad debt without absorbing the entire financial institution. The way I envision this is that they have the entities unbundle the loans that they bought, determine which are the problem loans, bundle them up and off to the government’s newly formed entity, leaving the seller with all their remaining performing assets. Would this concept be wrong?
Oops, wrong thread.
