Turd Blossom, who no doubt wants to see Obama do well in November, writes:
It is a mistake for Mr. Obama to spend a lot of time attacking Mr. McCain.
Yes, we all know it's always a mistake for Democrats to attack Republicans. But TB must’ve missed yesterday's polls (CBS/NYT +5, Zogby +2, Gallup +2). And those polls were taken after Team Obama unleashed a barrage of – wait for it -- wait for it -- negative attacks.
The people who can be won over by shouting "McCain is Bush" long ago sided with Mr. Obama. That message does not resonate with undecided voters.
The percentage of Americans who disapprove of the way Mr. Bush is conducting his job, 68 percent, was as high as it has been for any sitting president in the history of New York Times polling....At a time when Mr. McCain has tried to appeal to independent voters by separating himself from his party…57 percent of all voters said they viewed him as a typical Republican…
Pants on fire.

BT!
Hey, BT, great post!
Where can I get that poster?
Digg it.
I normally just ignore Karl, since he’s such a transparent tool, but this was too much, even for him.
wow..how many chins is karl sporting on that poster?
Rove isn’t a virus, he’s a root kit, much harder to get rid of. A hard drive (government) nuke and restore is the only answer.
You mean just because he has his own dog in this race? *g*
“Now, nearly two weeks later, Mr. McCain has a lead of roughly two points. Since the middle of the GOP convention, one out of every 10 voters has changed their preference — a significant movement this late in the campaign.”
I’m not sure at what math TB (a rather deadly disease, actually) is looking, but it clearly isn’t “the math.”
http://tpmelectioncentral.talk.....ll_und.php
It’s amazing the WSJ doesn’t byline him as a McSame advisor. Well, not amazing. Just fucking annoying.
So that is his talking point, eh? Is it because Mccain was a POW? or that O will come off as ‘uppity’?
asswipe
If anyone believes Rove, there’s a bridge up in Alaska that’s for sale.
I think of him more like a tenacious fungus. Like under a toenail.
According to the Palin name generator.
However, if you enter “Karl Rove,” you get: Ladel Torque Palin
When all is said and done and we’re looking back, Turd Blossom may end up being viewed as a not terribly good campaign strategist, and his over-reach for a permanent GOP majority will be seen as the beginning of a prolonged GOP decline.
In all the national polls at TPM Election Central, Obama leads or is tied with McCain. And, he leads in the single OH poll. He trails in one FL poll and is tied with McCain in the other two.
Delete this virus and all that he has infected.
He did get a complete moron, with everything stacked against him, elected in ‘04.
2000 he just got lucky that a) Jeb Bush is governor of FL b) the SCOTUS has more conservatives and c) Pat Buchanan was on the ballot in FL.
Rove is a very simple person to understand: his attacks are all based on the psychological concept of projection. Rove projects his bad behaviors on the Democrats, and attacks the Democrat’s strengths. Two tactics. You can bet anything he accuses the Democrats of doing, that’s what he is doing or is planning to do. Anything he attacks is what he perceives to be a strength for the Democratic party.
Hey now. Now, now.
Back when other people were watching polls, Grampy was a POW and didn’t have any polls.
So…yeah.
2000, Gore didn’t really run on the incredibly strong record of the Clinton Admin, for reasons we all know. They failed to win TN or AR.
2004, they swift-boated Kerry, and cowed dem’s into not running against the war in Iraq for fear of being seen as Not Supporting the Troops.
2006, Karl’s chickens began to come home to roost, and I think (hope!) they’ll continue in 2008. The GOP will still be up to all its old tricks - vote suppression especially - but as Colbert said, facts are taking on an increasingly liberal bias.
Playing devil’s advocate, as a campaign strategist, Karl was unscrupulous but effective. His problem was, he was a successful salesman of a shoddy product. Eventually, consumers (voters) get fed up and want to try a different brand.
OT
Froomkin uses a word correctly that starts with “v”:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/.....inionsbox1
“Bush’s Vapid Reassurances”
“Briefly emerging from his near-invisibility during the nation’s terrifying financial crisis, President Bush this morning offered brief, unsubstantive and unpersuasive assurances.”
And perceived character is everything. Issues are irrelevant.
We all know how much Turd Blossom, that flower from Texas whose blooms make what it grows in seem attractive (until you smell it or step in it), wants Democrats to do well. After all, he’s made a career and a fortune inventing dirty tricks for Republicans. We all know how much Rove likes to do good turns for those in need, regardless of who it benefits. About … this much.
Needless to say, TB or his acolytes have been recruited to respond in kind — and then some — to any attacks by Obama. So this meme is just a marketing tool for his services. But Obama would be a fool not to have a team of Jon Stewart wannabees pumping out direct, funny, caustic, graphic retorts about Bush, McCain, the neocons and GOP’ers, and Vlad the Palin. They’ve done so much to make America feel like home, and to help hundreds of thousands of Americans lose theirs, that he ought to make it crystal clear how much we have to thank them for.
I like that analogy. How many lemons are you going to buy before you start to blame the used car salesman?
I think that he also attacks the oppo based on his sides weaknesses. Hence you get Kerry being attacked by swiftboaters while the draft dodgers attack elsewhere.
The tanking economy focuses minds wonderfully. Republican propaganda stops working. Indeed it starts working against itself. Every mention of the economy now just reminds everyone how pissed off they are about it and how it is the Republicans’ fault.
As for Rove, he is and always will be a propagandist. Like expecting a straight answer from Judy Miller about the Iraq War, it is pointless to think Rove will actually have anything honest or insightful to say on any subject.
How about a cancer on the body politic?
Malignant, yet operable, if dealt with in time.
Bringing to mind my earlier question: What are the odds that Pelosi and Congress will hold his Lardship in Contempt of Congress before they all ‘rush’ away to recess?
Hello Osama? It’s George. My good friend John needs your help now.
Think you could make some noise? We’d really appreciate it.
It didn’t hurt that McShame offended the press by keeping Sarah away from them and telling them they owe her deference, either! Made them start asking a lot of questions and not favorably reporting what they found.
He’s probably living in the guest house at the Crawford ranch.
Good question - why isn’t his spew coming from behind bars (not the kind you drink at)
He no doubt helps with the brush harvest.
Rove is very gifted in that. He attacks his opponents by claiming that they have his clients’ worst traits. A lie, but he gets those traits out first and deflates the impact of their exposure, makes them appear invented, not an accurate portrayal of his clients. In fact, they usually understate his clients’ worst behavior, and Rove’s.
A subteam of Obama’s counter-attack squad should spend a fair bit of time exposing and attacking Rove and that methodology, because it’s a major theme the neocons have used for over a decade, and he’ll face it relentlessly throughout his administration. Especially when the GOP’ers blame the Democrats for the mountains of manure they find in the government’s stables.
Oh wait it isn’t built yet!!
Clearly the only reason to keep Palin sequestered from the press is fear of what would happen. The MSM may have smaller brains than sharks but if you throw enough chum in the water, one of them will eventually blunder into it.
So what that doesn’t mean anything - sell it buyer beware
OK OK I bid a buck two ninety eight!!
Absolutely. There will be a lot more criticism of the government come January. Obama needs to be ready.
I figure I can make that back with the TOLS I can charge $10.00 per axle!
That the campaign is afraid to have her face the press, except for under the tightest controls, makes their claim that “she’s ready” rather suspect.
I don’t understand what effect Buchanan had in FL 2000, but it would seem that that would not work in TB’s favor.
Has the buck been butchered and how old are the two oldsmobiles
All I can say is “A-yup.” Part of the Obama transition team is going to need to be anticipating the Right’s relentless barrage of character based attacks for the whole eight years Obama will be in office. The Republicans may suck at governance, but they play the poor, victimized minority party to a T.
Loves me some venison!! LOLROF
OT: Can you say “rebound”? Today Gallup has Obama up by 4, yesterday he was up by 2, day before yesterday he was down by 1.
Is there a pyschologist in the house?
McCain, in my opinion has lost it.
He wants to fire Cox (SEC Chairman) as a scapegoat ala Brownie.
Money managers are the next shoe?
Bush does nothing… we are witnessing a fucking meltdown.
McCain, talkin’ tough, fingerpointing at Wall Street
Shorter McCain — please please don’t pay attention to my culpability all these years.
Those polls may have been taken before McCain stood up to Spain. The numbers could change.
LOL
teehee
Didn’t McShame crash a plane into Spain
In fairness to McCain, (today) he thinks Cox is PM of Spain.
But now “Anonymous” has her emails…and can drip…drip…drip…them out as needed. Imagine the conundrum…McCain’s advisors now have to ask Sarah Cariboo for her emails, simply because they have to know what MIGHT be exposed. Potential affairs, racist statements, backstabbing comments against presumed allies, and outright illegal acts. All could come tumbling out. It would raise seriously questions about McCain’s judgement and the person who gave his campaign a life-preserver.
And if he dumps her he’s in a bind as well. Maybe it’s about time that she suddenly decides that the “attacks have been a distraction on her family and the great campaign of John McCain” and that she resigns to spend more time with her family. Blink…blink.
Then again the economic issues, might have sunk the boat without “Anonymous”.
Bush does nothing… we are witnessing a fucking meltdown.
the Dow was up by about 190 points when Georgie started speaking this morning.
didn’t take long after that for it to get back into the red again….
That’s funny because McCain can’t locate Spain on a map and Palin thinks the Iberian Peninsula is the part of Russia she can see from her house.
OT: Scott Horton has a great post up today: Bush Justice for Sarah Palin and Jack Abramoff
If you haven’t read it yet be to, he covers the Sarah and Abramoff story throughly!
Teddy has Keating Five news upstairs!
Sherrod Brown Opens Up the Keating Five Lockbox
Hey jayt, I was also designated Chase Rooster Palin. I suspect the Palin baby name generator name pool is a tad shallow, much like the Palin gene pool.
Gosh he carries a grudge for a long long time
Gosh it shares a border with Venezuela
“Briefly emerging from his near-invisibility during the nation’s terrifying financial crisis, President Bush this morning offered brief, unsubstantive and unpersuasive assurances.”
As usual, Froomie’s spot on.
I’ve been in financial services over 24 years, and have never seen anything close to what’s going on now.
On page a6 of today’s WSJ a headline reads “Congress Vows Action on Markets, but After Election”
Sen Reid and co don’t get it. We need substantive action immediately.
The short sellers are running rampant and causing fear throughout the financial markets.
If they wait until after the elections, there won’t be financial markets to come back to, at least as we’ve known them.
That’s not snark, either. A couple more 500 point down days and you’ll begin to see real panic in the markets, because that will be when you’ll call the broker/administrator of your 401(k), IRA, 403(B) etc. and say “Sell everything!”
Which of course they must do, so it will cause even more selling, and therefore lower market levels.
Well you know, McCain has had an ax to grind with Hugo Chavez since the latter was organizing farm workers back in the ’60s.
Yep, “terrifying” is exactly the right word for it.
In my experience, projection is common to the more right-wing Republiks. That’s why they steal from the government. They think everybody does it. They are a very sad case, and their projection has infected a significant part of the American people, who will have to be taught again what the American government can do when it is led and administered by people who believe in it.
Jane has a new post up at Silo for our enjoyment.
