And continuing from last thread, Goldberg responded to Imus that no, this economic mess didn’t start with the current “horrid” [Imus’ word] administration…it started with Reagan, then Bush 41, and even Bill Clinton was too cosy with the billionaires.

Danny Goldberg was singin’ my song this morning on Imus.

ewww, Imus, he’s a “shock jock”!

Good morning BT.
This is an interesting bit from your WSJ link:

The U.S. financial system resembles a patient in intensive care. The body is trying to fight off a disease that is spreading, and as it does so, the body convulses, settles for a time and then convulses again. The illness seems to be overwhelming the self-healing tendencies of markets. The doctors in charge are resorting to ever-more invasive treatment, and are now experimenting with remedies that have never before been applied. Fed Chairman Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, walking into a hastily arranged meeting with congressional leaders Tuesday night to brief them on the government’s unprecedented rescue of AIG, looked like exhausted surgeons delivering grim news to the family.

I believe the technical term used in the health profession to describe the current status of our financial system would be “circling the drain”.

solai September 18th, 2008 at 5:17 am

So, what’s going to happen today?

Waccamaw September 18th, 2008 at 5:18 am

O/t……but is “swim” a no o/t zone? :-)

8-18-08 example of CNN’s f&b policy:

Fact check on O’s claim that mcsame voted with bush 90% of the time:

Why, yes, Virginia………that does appear to be true.

but…..but….but…… Biden voted with bush 52% of the time and Obama, 40% of the time.

(think irc the %s)

So now the Dems are gonna have to vote against bush 100% of the time to be politically correct?

SPIT!

Could this be a reason for Obama’s rising poll numbers??

On the campaign attacks underway now, with a flurry of negative ads flying: “You can’t underestimate the wisdom of the people of America. They’re seeing through the rhetoric, and they’re seeing through a lot of the political cheap shots, also. And they’re getting down to the facts and the voting records that are going to show that stark contrast.”

Not all Americans are stupid!

The headlines I’m seeing have the R’s mad. I haven’t gotten around to reading the articles yet.

For some great fun, Glennzilla just put up a great post on the right-wing hand-wringing over the hacking of Palin’s email. Gonna be funny in the comments, too. One winger already demolished and I’m sure they’ll send lots more our way over the course of the day.

Waccamaw September 18th, 2008 at 5:35 am

Jessie Jackson Jr doing a superb job on scar.

P.S. -

Forgot to mention that Jackson Jr. also made a big point about what would have happened??? had Social Security been privatized and this week happened. Boy! howdy, do the Dems need to hammer *that* one into the ground!

Waccamaw September 18th, 2008 at 5:41 am

Ho hum…….Just another bright shiny. Scar was in a total snit this morning whining on about “imagine if Biden’s e-mails had been hacked? It’d be all over the NYT and other media.” Not a direct quote but near enough so’s ya get the flavor.

“Bring ‘em on”……..if the Lake ain’t taught me nothin’ else, it’s how to pretend the crazies don’t exist. At least at *this* URL. :-)

bgrothus September 18th, 2008 at 5:41 am

I hope the whining over the e-mail breach reminds the voters that we have no privacy, the government has been getting all access all the time. . .the government however does not do the courtesy of informing us when it is done.

Those poll numbers are great. The movement in the numbers appears to be tied to the crashing of the economy. That may mean that as the situation continues to deteriorate, more and more people will realize that the “de-regulator” was cheering on the creation of this disaster. The good news is we could get an Obama presidency. The bad news is that we may be all the way back to a barter economy by then.

I pray someone has this on video; as I’ve said before, Obama’s campaign should hang this mess around Gramm’s (and therefore McBush’s) neck relentlessly from now to the election.

Extra bonus points if they can link it to any Repug that voted for it running for re-election to the Senate.

If a company is “too big to fail” it is too big. We must somehow curb these vast “global” companies that become almost like separate states that we must become allied with and “defend” as though territory.

I can see Maine from my window, I think I’ll run for governor there.

The lying and equivocation of McCain and every one of his surrogates, over the last three days, ought to be apparent to anyone who every tried to bull shit through an essay question.

The McCain-Zapatero interview suggests a nice opportunity for Ali G.

Chris Matthews beat the crap out of Republican Congessman Eric Cantor yesterday. He repeatedly accused the Republicans of trying to take their uniforms off and mix into the crowd.

“Bring them home.”

Lets not be hasty here - Obama’s Serious plan is not to actually bring them home, but to bring them to Afghanistan, possibly Pakistan, probably Iran, or wherever the dynamic, expanding nebulous fronts of the Terror War take them.

Wouldn’t want to raise expectations too high that an Obama Administration would bring many troops home - disillusioned Hopesters who feel betrayed may not turn out in high enough numbers in 2012, a Very Important Election!
