…McCain senior policy adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin got the day started by saying the Arizona senator helped create the BlackBerry, a claim the Obama camp labeled “preposterous.”…
“If John McCain hadn’t said that ‘the fundamentals of our economy are strong’ on the day of one of our nation’s worst financial crises, the claim that he invented the BlackBerry would have been the most preposterous thing said all week,” Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton said in a statement.
What else has John McCain invented? Take a peek.
And it gets worse. It looks like McCain and his pal Joey have friends who invented a falsehood-laden push poll to turn Jewish voters against Obama.
Will Lieberman stand up and solemnly wag his finger of shame and disappointment or will he stand silently by? I’m gonna go with the latter. McCain knows a lot about false push polling spreading deliberately worded lies. McCain back in 2000:
The deeply personal, usually anonymous allegations that make up a smear campaign are aimed at a candidate’s most precious asset: his reputation. The reason this blackest of the dark arts is likely to continue is simple: It often works.
Hypocrisy, much? The McCain Jewish push poll may well sink below the already appallingly low standard of the utterly false and shameful sexual predator protection smear.
ABC reports that the people behind the push poll have close ties to the McCain campaign. Anyone else catching a whiff of eau de Turdblossom and Rove’s 527 coordination?
How low will McCain slink? I don’t think we know yet.
The press and fact check groups have had a field day with the easily debunked McCain lies (YouTube). And, apparently, McCain is taking out his ire at getting caught on the traveling press corps. Maturity rulz.
Jeebus, the folks at The Onion have got their work finding some satire that hasn’t already become reality this year, haven’t they?
UPDATE: Does the name David Flaum ring a neocon bell for any of the Scooter Libby fans in the audience? (H/T to allan.)

McCain needs the raspberry.
How is Peanut enjoying kindergarden?
oooooooooo! i love super secret youtubes! and this one is a dilly!
Good morning, Christy, Maybe the wheels are coming off the Raspberry Express?
Turns out that the organization behind the push poll is
headed by a dear friend of Scooter Libby.
Six degrees of neocon separation.
John McCain invented the wheel.
What good are they if they are secret?
Errr….I believe that was the RaspBerry he “invented.”
Poor person on the street, McCain laughed, made “ppppphhhhhhhthh” sound with his tongue out. Said “I got mine” and strutted away.
Yup, yup.
Invented fire too! Paper took him a little longer.
A good mix of ads is the way to go. Some longer and thoughtful, some short and tough and some whimsical and satiric like this one.
The ads are getting better.
She looooooves it. We’ve been working on reading for a while now, but being in class with other kids all working on it at the same time is really speeding up the desire to learn new words. Plus, she raises her hand when she wants to talk now, even at home — it’s too cute. *G*
These MoveOn spoofs are fricking hilarious, I have to say. They have done a little series of the “Straight Talk bus driver” videos, and they crack me up…
man o man….neoconism is a RABID disease, must be stamped out for ever, its fascism
had a great thought and started my computer back up after I shut it down for work but this is too good to wait, someone downstairs said;
“it’s the rule of war”
and that gave me a thought for a slogan, hopefully the firedogs can polish;
“democrats stand for the rule of law, republicans rule with the fear of never ending war”
not quite there yet but this will have legs
hey, Raven! good to see you! sorta
perris – that is good!
Hmmm
I was looking for a quote when I came across this gem:
Democrats = rule of law
Republicans = rule by fear and war
When Sarah Palin ran against Wasilla Mayor John Stein, her former mentor, in the 1996 campaign, her platform was simple:
Promise to end Stein’s Wasilla Police Department
Repeal the Wasilla sales tax
Mobilize the funglical base by:
– pointing out that Stein’s wife has a different last name (his late wife’s name was Karen Marie)
– pointing out that Stein’s wife was pro-choice
– pointing out that Stein’s wife was a Democrat, even though he was a Republican
– lying, by pointing out in fungelical circles, that “Stein” must be Jewish…
The package worked.
Morning all :)
Sorry to go OT already (really!), but has this already been discussed?
‘The Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) is on a fast-track process as rich nations hope to wrap it up by the end of the year. Unfortunately for everyone who cares about the outcome, it’s midway through September, and no draft text has yet emerged. The secrecy and the delay have inspired many conspiracy theories, none helped by leaked sets of corporate “wish lists” and public comments making outrageous demands. A worldwide group of public interest organizations has now banded together to call on ACTA negotiators to open the process up to scrutiny and public comment.

Speaking of Jewish…I read in the Free Press this morning that Michelle Obama’s cousin once removed is a Rabbi (mostly black congregation around Chicago). If Obama has been after the Jewish vote, I wonder why he has never mentioned this?
You know this raises an interesting question. I haven’t seen much of Joe Lieberman since the Republican convention. For a while there, he and McCain were like Siamese twins. Now since McCain backstabbed Mr. Backstabber and gave the VP slot to Palin, has Holy Joe bought himself a bottle of cheap whine and gone off to sulk. Or is he still soldiering on in the cause of sanctimony and I just haven’t seen him?
Here’s a linky to related story re: Obama’s cousin
http://blogs.suntimes.com/swee…..hicag.html
I’m kinda partial to he Red State Updates, myself:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1L2JG80fJsU
my friends who are Jewish are already “afraid of how Obama will deal with Israel”
to which I of course counter;
“you actually want the policies that have brought Israel to the brink of nuclear war?…if you want to see the destruction of Israel, vote McCain, if you want to see peace, vote the man that can deliver it, it ain’t McCain”
but they aren’t really afraid of Obama and peace, they are steamed (subconsciously) that a black man will be president before a Jewish man, I guarantee if a Jewish man had become a successful president prior these same people would be pulling for Obama
I hate to say it, it is political jealousy, that is all
oviously I have no proof of this, it is just my opinion
yup she is a package
piece of work!
he needs to get his Jewish, supporters Spielberg,Babs, out there to tell the story imo
wow Spilberg can make an ad
I haven’t seen much of Joe Lieberman since the Republican convention.
Poor Short-Ride. He’s now officially disliked by both major parties.
Lucky for him he has his very own personal party.
Or did he get kicked outta that one too?
Oooooh, excellent find — added that with a H/T to you up top as an update. Thanks!
I have *alway* wondered why, given that Hollywood is largely Democratic, the D candidates don’t tap into that huge pool of talent.
The Issue is the economy! It’s time for Obama to show that he will create a TRANSFORMATIVE economy. He’s going to have to tie this mess on Wall Street to McCain, and that shouldn’t be difficult given McCain’s voting record.
We need a new deal. And he needs to be the one who says it! Outlines it! and Marks it up before McCain can steal it.
I’m working on a pilot TV series, based on when she was Wasilla mayor. It is called CSI Wasilla. Starts like his:
for real…707!!!
Nah, he’s hangin’ out with Imus…same ol’ whine and sheesh.
They have been keeping him under the radar, haven’t they? Makes me wonder if he made his displeasure clear after being passed over for Palin — and they are a bit worried what might whine out of his mouth if he’s let loose and goes off message…but I haven’t seen much of him publicly fronting out for McCain lately. Has anyone?
Spielberg explored political themes in Munich, very disturbing flic
a 30 second spot from him would be great imo
strange bedfellows,no?
The dirty little secret is that a huge portion of Hollywood isn’t liberal at all — especially the production/money end, which is where the real power is. And the GOP knows it because they tap into that money every election cycle.
ok off to class…keep up the great fight
hit em with a chair!
my 35 — he was a call-in on Imus this morning. It’s still Lie-berman for Lie-berman.
as in imploded banks
I’d like to see The Director’s Guild form a 527 and get busy.
DOW on Jan 20, 2001 — 10,732
DOW today — gettin’ down there…
He is going to be able to hold Carly Fiorini’s hand under the bus
O/t -
Segment on CNN right now with a black-haired CNN person and reporter from Time?Newsweek about Troopergate…….couldn’t tell you exactly all that was said, but it *really* was a fair representation of history and current status of what’s going on. And palin’s flip-flop on “Hold me accountable” vs. “I ain’t talkin’ to nobody” was definitely pointed out.
NOT a candy crowley piece. :-)
Oh, also mentioned that the investigation started back in July and initiated by 8 thugs and 4 dems.
Christy writes: “McCain knows a lot about false push polling spreading deliberately worded lies. McCain back in 2000:“
Bob Somerby has documented here (among other places, scroll down) that McCain has not been above these tactics back in 2000 as well. He makes the point that McCain has always been dishonest, whether it be about the Keating Five or the South Carolina flag issue. During the campaign in 2000, he pandered to the “base” down there in order to win votes during the GOP primary, stating that they should keep the stars and bars in the flag, only to “apologize” in April of 2000 to his “base,” the media, once McCain’s campaign had gone down in flames.
I think that Somerby sometimes goes over the top with his “script” business and I departed with him mightily over the Joe Wilson thing, but he is absolutely correct when he states that McCain has always pandered to the media when it suits him and that it should not be such a surprise to us that he uses these sleezy tactics, since he always has done so, even when he was supposedly looking to move to the Dems in 2001 and 2002.
Ian made the wonderful point last night that with all the govt buys on The Street, the next pres will have FDR level juice to shape the economy
David Corn’s take, and the resulting comments, seem to cover this topic at a very high level:
http://www.davidcorn.com/archi…..ukuyam.php
looks to me like the DOW is, at this time of morning, right about where it was this time Monday morning.
On Monday, IIRC, the market held most of the day in the negative 200-300 range until late in the day, when the bottom fell out.
fwiw.
bom dia pups
early day here at the food bank ( I spend more time here than anywhere else now *g*)
Great article Christy and I wish everyone lots of love, peace and light today
they need to include footage of the Bus as well
*g*
the move-on.org video is very funny!
This from The Onion cracked me up:
“CARBONDALE, PA—Less than two weeks after introducing to the nation her developmentally disabled newborn and her 19-year-old son preparing for military service in Iraq, Republican vice presidential nominee and conservative Christian woman Sarah Palin delivered a speech Monday flanked by three heretofore-unknown relatives, including a naturalized Mexican half brother, a formerly lesbian niece, and a New York City firefighter cousin who saved several lives during the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks”
http://www.theonion.com/conten…..veils_9_11
LOL
Back then, the US Dollar was worth about 1.2 Euros. What is it now? If you compare the relative value of our dollar then to now, I think the Dow is actually down in the mid 7000s now…
pushback on push polls !
It needs a red grill
In all honesty, this is an apples to oranges comparison – the editors of Wall Street Journal “reindex” the index from time to time, where certain companies are taken out of the index and others are put back in.
This from Dow Jones itself:
In other words, the DJI is really, really subjective and is based on the whim of the people who run Wall Street in the first place. It certainly gives a good idea over the short term what’s going on with the stock market, but as time goes on, it becomes less and less valuable as a comparative tool.
Saw over at Josh’s place there’s a McCain ad saying he took on tougher than Wall Street. But McCain, you broke. And thanks to McCain-Bush economics, Wall Street and maybe now Main Street broke, too.
I think there are “players” in the market now that have been pushing it up late in the day. It happened yesterday.
True, but most people only look at the number. As such, that number is a very powerful thing.
This is a moment where nuance is meaningless.
Ordinary people who may have their pensions and 401Ks invested in mutual funds and stocks don’t know these details. They know that Mikey, the guy in the company who manages their funds, is walking around with his shoulders hunched over and fear in his eyes.
They understand that on Jan 21, 2001 the DOW was 10,732 and now it’s buttin’ up against bein’ back there…and lookin’ like it’ll go lower still.
Jeebus, it’s phone-call-o-rama at my house this morning. Sorry to be comments AWOL gang…
No, no, no! He’s not claiming to have invented the electronic blackberry. He invented the fruit. I bet he came up with the mouse also.
Seriously though, his assurances of knowing how to win wars, find bin Laden, and fix economic cataclysms(pl.?) is more worrysome.
AIG $85 Billion bailout caused stockholders huge losses. Coat taxpayer disposable income.
A Neocon strategy is in play lookout.
Drain the treasury so no social programs can be funded. Tranfer tax dollars to Wall street. This is open theft by Bushco…it’s our money!
Obama ads are better.
Some folks say beer was the first biotechnology…
This is a moment where nuance is meaningless.
I disagree. Nuance and, by extension, honesty are very important. The Obama campaign are making inroads into McCain and Palin’s dishonesty. Palin’s negative are rising exponentially because of her dissembling.
I certainly agree that the 401 (k)s, etc. are really hurting and that they have lost value, etc. We should use proper comparative measures to point this out. In fact, stating that pension plans, etc. have lost $x over x period of time is the proper way of using this.
Using the DJI, however, while certainly seeming to be easy to understand and therefore seemingly appealing, is intellectually lazy. I just feel we should be better than that.
Not sure why no one is seizing on McShames comment that “the top of the US economy is broken” This represents an ignorance of the bottom of the US economy and what is going on here.
Raven – the ’sorta’ referred to the ’see’ you. i’m glad to see you, but its a sorta seeing, not sorta glad to see you.
sorry for the apparent dis.
Oooh. I just checked and the market is not liking the AIG bailout. Down over two percent on all indexes right now.
And this:
is extremely powerful – the story itself is what it’s about. You devalue it somewhat by using an apples to oranges comparison – that takes away from said powerful message.
I guess that since the colateral for the loan is 80% of the stock we can refer to each other as fellow owners of AIG huh
US Market lost 30% of value and world markets more. The Republicans are milking the economy for all they can steal while Bushco have opened the treasury vaults to wall street. The rich got huge tax cuts and almost 1/2 of corporations pay no tax. The Dems led by Pelosi watched.
TBogg has a shiny new post up for our enjoyment.
Gotta have priorities!
THAT is a distinct and very real possibility.
No doubt McCain can also speak to Palin’s belief that humans and dinosaurs walked the earth together, just like in the Flintstones. He would definitely know if that were the case.
Over at TPM, David Kurtz has gone to some pains to clarify that what the Jewish voters were subjected to was not push polling but more limited message-testing market research.
The content, intent, and portent are no less vile. But precision in describing these activities matters.
Blue Texan upstairs!
