A lot of people have a problem getting an intuitive feel for big numbers. I think that the way to make the numbers more accessible is to divide by the number of Americans.

There are about 300 million of us. So that means that AIG got 283 dollars from every man, woman, and child in America.

One of the craziest things ever was allowing our food supply to depend on two stinking staples and let the rest be shipped out of the country. It places the whole nation at the mercy of other countries. It’s foolish.

I agree. All the focus is on oil and energy while ignoring the elephant in the room of our food supply.

Dr. John Ikerd, retired professor emeritus of University of Missouri, believes that sustainable farming is the way to go. It not only reduces dependence on petroleum products for fertilizer, herbicide, and pesticide, but is a healthier, more life-affirming practice.

Link to his webpage.

Also, there is a great documentary on the struggles of the farmers to stay in the business at brokenlimbs.org.

Rep. Slaughter is a pistol; we should see more of her.

Where does a NYState representative pick up a southern accent like hers?

I liked her, but the accent was a bit jarring to me…

I know Waccamaw, but the very least we could do is let farmers grow our food here, and not just corn, soybeans and livestock.

Last time I went to the store,I had a choice to buy frozen green beans from China(!)for 1.88 a lb,or the Georgia Grown(our Dept of Ag has little stickers on GA grown stuff here with a cute logo and those words on it) fresh green beans for 3.50 a lb. It’s insane and makes no sense at all. Not when farmland is being plowed under as we type to make room for McMansions that will sit empty because no one can afford to buy them.

I see what you’re saying. I think she presented it as overkill, or assurance to a skeptical Rachel. Her attitude was like, “take my word for it, there is no way they want to or are prepared to drill. However, we had to enact new law before the old expired and would not have had time to work through getting the current complete moritorium included…”

You know not everyone can fail to run one of these big companies according to Fiorini. I am sure he is not taking that money it is being given to him.

hmmm… since he now works for a State Owned Enterprise, can’t they just cancel his vested options and send him to gitmo instead? :). it’s the least our unitary executive could do
