the lonk “Palin’s next big interview test: Katie Couric” says this will be her 3rd interview. Besides Gibson when was the other one? People? That counts?
I’m sure Katie will give her a chance to explain her Bush doctrine answe. A possible answer:
Well, you see Katie, someone as knowledgeable of foreign policy as I am knows that the Bush Doctrine” has evolved over tome so there is no single definition of it. That’s why I couldn’t answer such a general question and I neded Charlie to be more aspecific.
You didn’t mention the energy bill. From what I read, it seems pretty good. I don’t think the Dems caved at all. States must approve drilling off their shores. And lots of incentives for other energy sources. I haven’t read any commentary yet from those smarter than me, so I’m sure someone will point out where I’m wrong, but it didn’t seem so bad.
lol.
“evolved over time” not “tome”. Although with Palin, you never know.
Palin had an interview with Hannity but not if it has aired.
not if it has aired. should read not sure if it has aired yet. More coffee
Morning pups. I see by the papers that the polls show McSame currently running ahead in OH and FL. Must be some kind of lag in public perceptions, since nothing else has been going his way. Thank God this campaign has six weeks to go. NYT hammered him this morning. Two days in a row.
I haven’t read the bill but the right wing is all a flutter, so I assume it is a good bill.
Morning, BT and pups.
Said this on the previous thread, but since AIG is mentioned here, I’ll repeat:
American

Gigafu*k
The Obama ad isn’t bad. As the financial crisis continues, I think people will realize that the Republican disdain for oversight is what got us here. If the Obama campaign can highlight the role McCain and his lobbyist friends have played in removing oversight, then it might be possible to move the vote far enough in Obama’s favor to not be stolen.
Well, mornin Joe doesn’t like it!
Damm It!
If McCain wanted to prevent excesses of runaway corporations with reasonable rules for the Business Highway,
HE SHOULD HAVE RUN IN THE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARIES !!!
Some of the bill:
Also:
There’s more good stuff. The headline read “Dems approve off-shore drilling” but that doesn’t really tell the story.
Gene Green on CSPAN on the energy bill now
I like Obama’s ad. But it’s 2 minutes long… How much airtime is this gonna get?
Oh….and Bush said he’d veto it.
What will the OCTOBER SURPRISE be ????
We need to get ahead of it and make it an expected “surprise”.
than it HAS to be good
National Audubon Society is not happy with the bill.
Money quotes from the McCain and regulation link:
Great stuff, and on page A1 of the Washington Post. I really like the “economic philosophy that has completely failed”. I hope Obama uses it a lot. People will understand it, because they are living with the consequences every day.
I really wish this whole notion of Free Markets would die,it’s a lie,to say the least. What this nation needs is local, sustainable economic models. All we do is consume,we don’t make anything anymore, including our own food sources. If money and jobs stay in your community(as much as is practical at least),then everyone is lifted up. More people have jobs, more can be invested in education, crime rates go down, infrastructure can be maintained, and so on.
And really, after some bigwig makes their first 50 million dollars,do they honestly expect us to believe they are somehow deprived if the next year they aren’t making 100 million? If someone can’t live their whole life on that much money, that sounds like a personal problem to me,not an economic one.
I do not know the details…but heard the Pres. plans to veto.
Talky talk impotent peoples on ‘Today Show’ blame everyday people, mainstreet not ‘Wall Street’ for our financial woes..Matt concurs.
Obama leads McCain by 2 points: Reuters poll

Fox-Guarding-the-Henhouse Network’s Van Susteren interviews the First Dude wanna-be? Bet that’s “inciteful….”
You folks have a great day….work calls.
Rachel Maddow interviewed Congresswoman Louise Slaughter last night. Maddow, in her “talk me down” session prefaced the interview with a rant that Democrats in congress don’t know how to stand up to anything, based on logic, politics, whatever. Congresswoman Slaughter made, IMO, a convincing argument that the bill made good sense, for the following reasons:
1. The existing moritorium on drilling would expire before the end of the year and drilling could be done anywhere offshore without state approval.
2. Given the contentiousness, there would not be time to pass an new moritorium prior to the end of the year.
3. The bill under consideration limits the areas in question.
4. The oil companies aren’t prepared, equipped, or interested in drilling in any new areas any time before an new energy bill’moritorium could be passed by the next congress.
5. The bill removes some tax windfalls to oil companies and uses the money on green energy development.
FWIW, I was convinced, even though Rachel purported not to be. She had made a diatribe about the Dems weakness and would have had a hard time completely caving in on her argument.
Don’t feed the polls
Good morning all,
Starting to sound like Mcshame has flip flopped on his “openness” Seems like the “straight” talk express has become the no talk express.
Last night KO said that the Palin bubble has burst and that her favorables are in freefall having dropped ten points in a week
Now *there’s* an disendorsement I can support!
The thugs have been bitchin’ and whinin’ on the floor (and everywhere else) for their entire holiday and bushie’s gonna veto it? A pox on them all! If it *does* get vetoed, at least the Dem’s can say, “Put up or shut up!”
Oh if only that bears out…
Last night, Jon Stewart called it the “Circular Talk Express”. At the very end of this clip. Great picture!
Mrs. Betty Bowers interviews Sarah Palin
Sing it, sister!
There was a neat article in the nearest local paper this morning about several couples who decided to “gather ingredients without spending a dime” for several months. There was some pretty extreme stuff described like boiling down seawater for salt and making cattail flour and then the piece was supposed to be continued to an inside page…..but wasn’t.
It is comforting to see the increased interest in eating locally as much as possible but sure difficult for those who are barely keeping their heads above water without adding the time needed for food preparation.
Great clip!
We need Jon Stewart to moderate the debates.
33’s for you……dang this slow “reply” response time! I’m gonna break out the bubbly if the techies ever manage to get (show text) functioning again.
Socialism with a Republican face.
I caught that interview as well, and completely agree with you.
Rep. Slaughter is a pistol; we should see more of her.
Good Morning Firedogs,
Crosstimbers -
caught that last night and found this to be a rather glaring contradiction
1. The existing moritorium on drilling would expire before the end of the year and drilling could be done anywhere offshore without state approval.
4. The oil companies aren’t prepared, equipped, or interested in drilling in any new areas any time before an new energy bill’moritorium could be passed by the next congress.
which is it Congresswoman ?
Somebody (probably from here) mentioned something about KO taking a bit of liberty with the interpretation of those figures. I. do. not. do. the stat stuff but, if I never hear the word “poll” again in this life, it will be one day too soon. :-(
I see that the Chief Executive of AIG is gonna have to walk away from his failed company with a measley 8.7 million dollar “exit package”.
Poor guy.
Anyone seen the Southern Dragon?
hmmm… since he now works for a State Owned Enterprise, can’t they just cancel his vested options and send him to gitmo instead? :). it’s the least our unitary executive could do
You know not everyone can fail to run one of these big companies according to Fiorini. I am sure he is not taking that money it is being given to him.
Come to think of it, no.
I’ll FB him.
I see what you’re saying. I think she presented it as overkill, or assurance to a skeptical Rachel. Her attitude was like, “take my word for it, there is no way they want to or are prepared to drill. However, we had to enact new law before the old expired and would not have had time to work through getting the current complete moritorium included…”
Or, you can also. I forgot you’re “f’d” too. :)
I know Waccamaw, but the very least we could do is let farmers grow our food here, and not just corn, soybeans and livestock.
Last time I went to the store,I had a choice to buy frozen green beans from China(!)for 1.88 a lb,or the Georgia Grown(our Dept of Ag has little stickers on GA grown stuff here with a cute logo and those words on it) fresh green beans for 3.50 a lb. It’s insane and makes no sense at all. Not when farmland is being plowed under as we type to make room for McMansions that will sit empty because no one can afford to buy them.
One of the craziest things ever was allowing our food supply to depend on two stinking staples and let the rest be shipped out of the country. It places the whole nation at the mercy of other countries. It’s foolish.
The stuff at the Athens Farmers market is sky high, no way needy folks could shop there.
Rep. Slaughter is a pistol; we should see more of her.
Where does a NYState representative pick up a southern accent like hers?
I liked her, but the accent was a bit jarring to me…
I agree. All the focus is on oil and energy while ignoring the elephant in the room of our food supply.
Dr. John Ikerd, retired professor emeritus of University of Missouri, believes that sustainable farming is the way to go. It not only reduces dependence on petroleum products for fertilizer, herbicide, and pesticide, but is a healthier, more life-affirming practice.
Link to his webpage.
Also, there is a great documentary on the struggles of the farmers to stay in the business at brokenlimbs.org.
A lot of people have a problem getting an intuitive feel for big numbers. I think that the way to make the numbers more accessible is to divide by the number of Americans.
There are about 300 million of us. So that means that AIG got 283 dollars from every man, woman, and child in America.
