From the age of 4 to the age of 38, 6 years Palin was in the Wailla Assembly of God. Go google Assembly of God. Look for their beliefs. Enjoy the video about the iminence of the Rpture and the start of The Millennium.

And then I asked myself: what if she gets the nucular (sic) football? What would a mobilised, speaks-in-tongues, millennialist Jesus-freak do?

That particular article goes on to say:

I created a compilation of news stories and put them on a blog. I’d like more information on Palin’s environmental record to put up there, especially with regards to killing SOWS with CUBS. Disgusting. On a non-related but similar note, I just read a story about West Virginia’s Mountain Top Removal mining and how a sow was plowed under by machines, with her cubs. Buried alive while the mountain tops were decimated. “Clean coal”? There is nothing clean about it.

The short version would be that some are not extreme, depending on your definition. Most believe in the second coming of Christ, as time would have it, in their lifetime. That seems to be the basic version. I, personally, believe that most Pentacostals are exteme, but that would not necessarily be accurate. Depending on where you live defines how that belief is expressed. Some are extreme, some less so. But they are mostly outside the mainstream beliefs of the major Protestant churches. I know, lots of wiggle room. I consider them outside of what I know, but I know moderate mainstream Protestant, which they would reject. ‘hard to ’splain.’ Palin, however, has made her beliefs very clear. She is extreme Pentacostal.

I see what you’re getting at.
I went to a church like this for a couple of years, because my older son (then a teen) went with a friend and I worried, hearing some of what he said about the church. (I had never heard of this denomination before that time.)
This link
tells how the church came about. Basically, they believe in speaking in tongues and that they’ve been “touched by the Holy Spirit” if they do so.
Early 20th century. Lots of singing and waving hands, etc.

I’m not interested in a thorough history, so your version is a good place to get me started. If I were to say that all Pentacostals are extreme protestant religionists, how would you correct that short version?

I don’t really know much about Pentacostal beliefs except that they are extreme, depending on the individual church. Briefly, all Christians were Catholic until the 1500s when the Bible was translated from Latin to the original Greek and Hebrew; forbidden by the Pope, the translaters were persecuted and some killed. Hence, the King James version of the Bible which is widely used and respected. Various Protestant groups emeged (e.g., the Pilgrims,) and spread. Various dvisions occurred. Pentacostal is mostly southern, but given Alaska, my knowledge dims. Amazingly, some believe that the handling of snakes (if they don’t bite you, you are saved [no shit] and other extreme beliefs. Just my off the cuff knowledge…I apologize for not being able to give you a more thorough history.

Thanks for trying to help me, but your links strike me as probing the ancient Q of how many angels can dance on the head of a pin, i.e. they refer to obscure religious doctrines. I think that is not the crux. Obscure religious disputes generally stem from much more important power plays. I pick a bit of that up from your links, but IYO is that the crux? If so, could you give me the short version? Your links suggest that newly empoered nutcases challenged the status quo power structure. Is that accurate?
