What’s on your mind tonight?
I want the person responsible for the freecreditreport dot com ads captured and held in a freezing room for a month with only a loop of those horrible fucking commercials, played at full-blast volume, to ‘comfort’ him/her.
(hey, you asked)
Also: Hail, Muse Suz!
I don’t think it means what see thinks it means
Looks like McCain has a seriously bad day. Also he slipped a point or so in most of the polls today.
hahahahahaha those are the worst ear worms
Looks like they had the desired effect.
Suz @ 4, TCU @ 7: Mwah hah haw…
thanks for getting right on that Digg thang, ratfood…
EPU’d…
Speaking of Puma’s…
Prominent Clinton backer and DNC member to endorse McCain
Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a prominent Hillary Clinton supporter and member of the Democratic National Committee’s Platform Committee, will endorse John McCain for president on Wednesday, her spokesman tells CNN…
…“This is a hard decision for me personally because frankly I don’t like him,” she said of Obama in an interview with CNN’s Joe Johns. “I feel like he is an elitist. I feel like he has not given me reason to trust him.”
Forester is the CEO of EL Rothschild, a holding company with businesses around the world. She is married to international banker Sir Evelyn de Rothschild. Forester is a member of the DNC’s Democrats Abroad chapter and splits her time living in London and New York.
WTF is that??? First, she married a Rothschild and second, she’s a DNC member…???
30th anniversary of the signing of the Camp David Accords by Menachem Begin and Anwar Sadat. Gad, I feel old.
OMG…. first week under 100 degrees predicted….. Winter is coming…
“Jane wants ya’ll to see the The Great Bilerico Soap Drive – one of their readers is deployed in Afghanistan and her unit needs soap!”
Billions for Wall Street, not a dime for soap for our troops…heckuva job, Georgie!
Looks like they had the desired effect.
I know what you’re thinking – that when the ad sticks in your head, even if it’s awful, it’s a successful ad.
In my case, however, it only makes it an absolute fucking certainty that I will go *well* out of my way to avoid the use of their product.
Ever.
(and that’s assuming I don’t hunt the fuckers down myself to impose the punishment described above)
F to the R to the E…all together now!
thanks ratfood
s’alright, don’t mention… zhu hungry, vant a sandvich?
…and then she gets down on O for being an elitist?
So kids, did I not predict Caribou Barbie would turn out to be The Gift That Keeps On Giving™?
P.S. to Candy Clark: Oh please just STFU.
please tell me you meant CNN, not MSNBC…
Local news on….. emails sent out saying you can see an Obama Sex video …. when you click on the link, spyware is installed on your computer…… baaahhhaaahahahaha…. they deserve it if they wanted to see filth and lies….
WTF is that??? First, she married a Rothschild and second, she’s a DNC member…???
aw, fuck her. Any woman who would marry a man named Evelyn has obviously been divorced from reality for some time now.
totally sucks. their skins are so dried out from the chlorine in the water they need some non girlie smelling soap that will help moisturize their skin – dry skin is horrible, the cracks and the itch can be a vicious cycle.
Just a tad hypocritical, don’t cha think…? 8-(
oooh, I like that.
New species: dinopuma!
Aloha, CT my friend. I am missing the islands tonight. I think it’s due to being in TX.
The product is even worse than the ads!
Head-on, apply directly to the forehead! Available without a prescription!
But what is it supposed to do?
Especially that part about the Fourth Branch the VP is a member of…Article 4…I think. Dick must have found the vellum stuck up the chimney at the WH or something.
‘evening, all…
Watched “The Secret Policeman’s Ball” on BBC-America. Bunch of what are ostensibly repression-themed comic skits…anyway, Chevy Chase starred in this incredible skit, where a vacationing couple somehow winds up at Guantanamo, with Chase as General Disorder, who, among other things, takes “free souvenir photos”. It was difficult to watch…Funny, yet shameful to me as an American who knows that is how we are now viewed.
You are correct, Sir or Ma’am, and I am but a miserable dog of a Siddhartha. CNN-HN, not CNN main.
What I want to know is why GM and Ford are trying to reinvent the wheel with lame hybrids.
Diesel or Gasoline? Our first prototype, the Mk-0, was a parallel hybrid Diesel and achieved an average of 230 MPG at a steady state of 55 MPH. This was pure Diesel/mechanical drive with no electric assist. Diesel is attractive for its Carnot efficiency and the increased enthalpy of Diesel fuel vs gasoline. However, diesel contains lots of unburned hydrocarbons and NOX compounds, and it’s impossible to get a small Diesel engine certified for emissions in California. Therefore, the typ-h uses a small, water-cooled EFI Gasoline engine with closed loop oxygen feedback and catalytic converter. This engine is coupled to a lightweight 12KW starter/generator. It’s very clean and quiet.
http://www.aptera.com/details.php
My Bold Ford and GM should just buy Aptera give them a percentage and then make the cars bigger so that even Hockey moms with Moose in the trunk will have enough room.
Copying Japan won’t work and the Volt is not as good as the Aptera. If the Carmakers want to win back market share they can’t copy the Japanese, they can’t say me to, they need something newer, much much better and well just cooler if they want to get back on top again.
Baby wipes are the preferred toiletry item… And I’m serious as a heart attack…! ;-)
I was thinking about the question posed by Ian in the last post, “Is there anyone competent on, or advising the McCain ticket?” That is something that really sets McCain’s presidential bid apart from previous Republican efforts. They might have been shameless liars but at least they were GOOD at it.
Aloha, Hmmm, what brought ya to Texas?
she is in afghanistan – i read the article in the link and there are several quotes by her – she is a civilian, with with corp of engineers and wears fatigues with a USACE emblem – not a greensuiter.
But what is it supposed to do?
The trick is to bang it on your forehead repeatedly, and with great force, and voila, any other pain becomes pleasurable by comparison….
ct, iirc, baby wipes have lanolin or similar product in it – they help moisturize to prevent diaper rash and chapping.
What’s wrong with the Nipponese hybrids?
Putting leeches out of work.
Oooooh Boy…the Global World Jewish ZOG conspiracists are going to have a field day with this one!
BTW There really is a creature called the CatoPUMA….Catopuma badia…very naughty.
I want to hear something better than the Chevy Volt for $50 billion for that price I want 100 mpg for a small car. I want to hear a business plan that does not sound like what Japan did 5 years ago with the tech.
44th
46th?
They also make for an awesome “whore’s bath” when we had limited water and/or facilities…! ;-)
Take packages of these when I travel through Europe….. somehow even in France they don’t like sitdown toilets or if they have sitdown toilets they don’t have seats…… We had a rating system for toilets….
One star – sit down bowl
Two stars – toilet seat
Three Stars – toilet paper
Four Stars – running water to wash up
Five Stars – paper towels
You can add up your stars….. you might have a sitdown but no toilet seat but toilet paper and running water but no towels….. so it was a 3 star….. 0 stars were the Turkish Johns….
Aren’t Ford and GM just killin’ time waiting for the government bail-outs (which the financials just beat them to)?
buzz, sorry – missed it by that much. charlie, tell our contestant about our parting gifts.
Better late than not at all. Dugg your Digg ratfoog!!
My presence is requested tomorrow in front of an audience of people interested in an extremely specialized technical/creative field. I’m supposed to talk to all of them simultaneously. PowerPoint slides may be involved.
Well now that I dropped that little nugget of info…. heading off to bed… Nite everyone….
The Japanese hybrids are great but if Detroit wants 50 billion Dollars to build hybrids then their hybrids better shine like diamonds in the sun on a snowy day.
Plus the Aptera is an American made car and its so much better, why should we settle for second best.
g’nite katymine
At times even a nearby tree was a luxury…! ;-)
Anybody who buys a Volt is like the folks who bought the first 15-pound mobile phone or the first 30-pound laptop. Hopefully, it will inspire competition. Problem is, the automakers were way in the hole before the rest of the economy. Doubt if they’re committing enough revenue to R&D.
I hate power point presentations…!
Good point I don’t know if Bush still has $50 billion to give.
Aloha, Katy!
i tend to get real sleepy as soon as they begin
g’nite katymine
I’m out too, see y’all
Pshaw. Let’s tell Detroit to forget the $50B and just get busy licensing the damn Toyota design. That’d be a hell of a lot faster and cheaper and still keep US autoworkers (if indeed there are any) in a job.
Aloha, RF!
I answered in the previous thread.
hey – forgot to tell ya – Number One Son is in Ordnance….
any words of advice… like, “Don’t Touch That”!?
Everybody does, me included. Needs must!
g’nite ratfood
Goodnight, Katymine, and Ratfood.
is he a fast runner?
My comment about the ZOG’s relates to the PUMA Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild having the audacity to call Obama an elitist!
Great Caesar’s Ghost! She met hubbie Evelyn at the Bilderburg Conference! And then wrecked his marriage. Maybe THAT’S WHY she relates to the McCains!
Interview with a Vamp…seeking an Empire
Wow! That Aptera is very impressive. Thanks for that link.
Hey the Feds can just print up some more!
You said he’d be programming the ‘ordnance’(missiles) right?
(STFU, Candy Crowley. You have become, unfortunately because you once had talent, a Balance Troll.)
George, Jeff Lynne, Tom, Ringo . . . great pickers.
And with Roy Orbison, too . . .
Them Travelin Wilburry’s were awesome for their short time.
But what a bunch of music they cranked out.
Till The End Of The Line . . . indeed. RIP the departed . . . damn I miss them all.
Good night departing pups sleep well (:>))
is he a fast runner?
lol. It might be more important that those working close to him can scoot in a hurry.
he’s not exactly a “details man”, if ya know what I mean…
Thats why I think they should buy the Aptera car and just make it family sized or put in a truck bed. Oshkosh can soup up the Diesel Tech in the engine so that even if the cars are bigger the miles per gallon will still be great.
We have the tech the big three can buy it easy with $50 billion but if they just do well enough to get buy well then I will get an Aptera or a third generation Prius.
Detroit cannot win America back with the Volt.

Screw you I’m only 55!!! *GRINS*
What? Get young again, hoss, or hossette . . . it’s yer only savin grace!

I want to wake up tomorrow morning with Sarah Pain gone, gone, gone back to her house with a view of lower Wasilla’s meth labs.
hey larue
gone too soon :(
You are not alone.
What are the chances?
Cheap, quick to implement Toyota already has let Ford and Nissan lease the 1st generation Prius engine design because I think they want their tech to be the standard.
It could work. Still if we get Detroit to build Apteras then its better MPG and an American design.
hey et
Apparently McCain is trying to give Palin some Foreign Policy Credentials by taking her down to the United Nations. It’s a Small World After All!
Gosh! She becomes a world expert without even getting the first stamp in her new passport!
Interesting analysis at NYT, that the Chrysler bailout started it all and American industry would have been better off letting them go belly up.
You said he’d be programming the ‘ordnance’(missiles) right?
“MOS 94A Land Combat Electronic Missile System Repairer”
The Land Combat Electronic Missile System Repairer is primarily responsible for maintaining the TOW (M-220 Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire-guided missile) antimissile system, the DRAGON antitank guided missile systems and the Bradley Fighting Vehicle system.
Meth labs? Blame the Russians!
ET, what’s up with the State AG saying that no state employees will respond to subpoenas in the troopergate investigation…? Aren’t they all state employees…?
Well, if he goes to Iraq, he’ll be a Remf and remain behind the wire…!
Yup, the balance bullshit, like giving creationism the same credence as Darwin.
I want to wake up tomorrow morning with Sarah Pain gone, gone, gone back to her house with a view of lower Wasilla’s meth labs.
yeah, I think I heard that things need some “shakin’ up and fixin’” up there.
(”Guys and Gals”)
BTW I read “somewhere” today that an apparition of Darwin appeared on a wall in Lantana, Florida.
Railroads have been using tandem diesel electrics for 80 years or so, and the Army is now using them on some of their combat vehicles. They have lower maintenance than direct drives, but supposedly are somewhat less efficient — so I’m told.
he’s got 5 possible duty stations right now. No Iraq (thank gawd). One is Germany, three are in the continental U.S., and one is – “paradise”!.
Life imitating art!
Hah! Apparently Palin and Hillary are ACTUALLY going to be together at an anti-Ahmadjinedad demonstration outside the UN. So we may get to see how she mangles Ahmadjinedad’s name!
And a replay of the SNL skit!
Another “too close” thing for me. The AG is a long-time friend…
Yeah, the Rovebots mating with the Sarabots is producing strange, creepy offspring.
umm, it’s possible that one may need to have seen The Daily Show from tonight to understand that comment.
*hitting brain bleach button again at the thought of mating bots*
What is Sarah’s hometown really like?
I keep picturing methheads freezing in the snow as some very pale have not seen the sun in months *cough* rednecks with accents right out of that film “Strange Brew ” sing some Skynard as they drive SUV’s chasing polar bears through the streets.
Then on Sundays they all sober up and go to church cash their yearly checks from the government and then plot to free Alaska from the burden of money.
I assume that in reality Sarah really lives in a nice home and just doesn’t drive to the bad part of town like folks do here. But when the election comes near she shoots a moose and hangs with the wanna be rednecks.
It’s the purity game. We didn’t practice sufficiently pure free-market capitalism. If only we’d let them suffer the discipline of the market, none of this awful stuff would have happened.
Is a PUMA anything like a Cougar?
True, he could be assigned to Schofield Barracks we have a Stryker brigade that need ’em… Don’t count on him not going to Iraq… They don’t send them straight there, they assign him to a duty station and unit and it depends when they’re slated to go…!
Darwin said it. I believe it. And, that settles it.
and Russia?
I think the licensed Toyota drive is actually the 5th generation of the “Hybrid Synergy Drive” design, i.e. matured and evolved. It will take the US a long time to match it. That process should start now, but I don’t think it rates $50B in Federal money. In the meantime, go directly into production using the Toyota design. Given everything that’s messed up at present, using an American design just because it’s American seems IMHO like a bit of a misplaced priority. And man do I wish Americans would get over the Gotta-Have-A-Huge-Vehicle neurosis, really it’s just nutty.
I was afraid you were gonna say something like that.
gettin’ late here – see all of youse manana.
g’nite jayt
Darwin said it. I believe it. And, that settles it.
Darwin was adopted.
Pass it along.
Sorry, Jayt… 8-( Aloha!
If your talking about Sarah please let the next phrase be asexual reproduction if she is what passes for a hot mom then nowonder she wants all the
competitionPolar Bears dead. What is Wasilla like? Like a miniature Anchorage, but with far less class. We actually live cloer to Palmer, which is a cool little, real town, with no mall spore poured on the ground to create a fake town.
Wasilla is more like all those sorta suburban places along Intertate highways, with no unique characteristics, just a lot of franchise stores, restaurants, etc. The plague th USA, in most states from the great plains westward. Wailla has far more in common with those fake towns, than it does with anywhere in Alaska.
i always wonder just what they are compensating for by driving such a huge vehicle.
sounds like a milty friedman/shock doctrine kind of whine
Yeah all cars should be hybrids for $50 billion go directly to production.
IIRC, the Toyota drive is parallel. The Volt is an attempt to leapfrog the Japanese and go directly to a tandem layout, thus getting rid of a lot of drive train stuff.
I’m saying skip the $50B part. Where’s the benefit?
It won’t take anywhere near as long the second time. It never does. I think the $50B is a lot better spent there than in many other possible ways. Innovation only happens if there are competing designs.Cede the market to one design, and you live with that design for a long time.
I hate the cover I’ve put over my laptop keyboard. It misses every third letter sometimes, when I type. But it makes the keyboard spew-proof, which has been important lately.
Peanuts envy?
I wasn’t actually thinking about Palin (something I try without much success not to do) but trying to comprehend this term “Puma” that I keep hearing about
It makes me think of “Cougar,” I could be way off base with that
somethin for sure
Manners, mostly.
There are competing hybrid drive designs already. The US ones just suck is all. Who cares where the design comes from, let’s get some hybrids built and stop eating so much petrol.
PUMA – party unity my ass
said to be a sub-species of the hillary supporter
PUMA = Party Unity, My Ass
Party Unity My Ass.
Party Unity My Ass = diehard Hillary supporters.
thanks, suzanne
guess that could be a cougar or not–depending on whatever
I have never had much use for people who cynically use the party for their own purposes, then take their ball and go home if it doesn’t work out their way
Who said there were no spoiled, selfish little brats in the Democratic party?
Then there is the other group which is a shadow McCain group.
Apparently the PUMA phenomenon is real. Per 236.com:
I sounds like a lot of white women are bolting the Dem party.
So Wasilla is a strip mall a highway town and Sarah is a higher property values lets build realestate Republican.
That explains why her town is in debt she projected that as newer residents moved in because she improved the town, as property values rose the new taxes from the higher property values would cover the costs she spent.
She really is from the Suburbs! and thats not a good thing even in the lower 48.
Long ago a friend thought Freud had the penis envy theory wrong. In his counter theory, hetero-sex isn’t so much about the woman envying it and wanting to acquire it, it’s more that the man is ashamed of it and wants to hide it away where nobody can see it: So not penis envy, but penis shame.
(LurkMod, I will understand fully if you decide to excise this comment!)
yeap, more like 3rd grade bullies in my book
Two reasons to care. One is competition, which is an important driver. Good engineering requires money. Designs don’t improve by themselves.
Second, the auto industry in this country either needs to make its own engineering and production work with the new kinds of cars, or it will become irrelevant. That means a lot of high-paying jobs that are gone.
Any word on how that drive is working out for GM? I still don’t trust them after all the green noise they made in the 70’s only to betray us with SUV’s.
LOL
I wouldn’t think of it.
you got some interesting friends (laughing) even if you do give powerpoint presentations
They’re afraid of the big scary black man?
Lower gas prices plus with less need for oil we don’t need to fight a war for oil anymore which saves American lives and money.
Oh Noes… Not the UN…
Ok I don’t know about Pumas either? Lets just not think of Sarah that way.
It can’t last, if the Palin narrative building now gets through:
She’s an awful mom, throwing her dysfunctional kids under the bus
She is extremely spiteful to females around or under her
She has a long-term anti-women’s rights agenda
She fired the guy who was about to fight sex abuse and child sex abuse like nobody here has
She knows she will see Jesus return during her lifetime
Don’t follow the logic. They can build the car here with all the parts except the drive train using US designs, and simply license the drive train -design- (building and assembling new drive train parts in the US, not buying finished drive trains from Japan). No loss in US manufacturing jobs. In re competition, there are already competing hybrid drive designs, and one of them is succeeding in the market on its merits.
that should be “child sex abuse” above…
i thought the gop thought the un was unamerican and we should not have to get their permission to do anything – does this mean mcsame supports the nasty anti-american un?
Yeah, but right at the end, right?
I saw Bob Lutz on the Charlie Rose Show a month or so ago. He’s the GM exec in charge of the Volt.
IMHO, he’s crazy. He’s in his late 70s, and wants to return to the 1950s, when styling reigned supreme. He thinks that the engineers have had too much to say about cars. Now he wants to style them first and make the innards fit the artists’ design. I suspect that is also one of the reasons that he likes the tandem electric drive; it’s allows much more flexible placement of the engine, drive train, etc.
But those benefits even if the design of the drive train is of overseas origin, do they not?
No shit, right now, Europe’s kicking major ass on the fuel economy thing. Detroit’s damn lucky Peugeot’s not a big seller in the U.S., they’ve got a car that gets 75 mpg, and it’s not even a hybrid.
Well pups time to hit the sack. We have plans to go to the coast tomorrow with Tucker…. night all sleep when you get there(:>))
Lutz insists that everything is on schedule for a 2010 rollout. Of course, he’s paid to spread optimism, but I got the feeling he believed it.
Being more likely to vote for him doesn’t mean they will.
g’nite nahant
Heh, and *gasp* Ahmadinejad and Shrub will be in the same building together…! ;-)
my folks bought a used 58 peugot when i was a kid – my dad used to love to complain about working on that car – dayam metric wrenches :) thanks for reminding me of him hannibal
Aloha, nahant!
she wants to meet world leaders? can’t she just look out her living room window and peer into Putin’s soul?
*gasp*
i see why et needs a spew proof cover for the keyboard (laughing)
A Rothschild endorses a McCain. The old money clinks and the very old dusty winecasks are dusted off. Ahhh. So good to be rich, where you don’t have to worry about trashy little details like…doctor bills, for heaven’s sake.
In principle hybrids shouldn’t get any better highway mileage than a similar non-hybrid. The major distinction is regenerative breaking and no need for idling.
But the cars don’t have to be “similar.” A hybrid with a smaller motor will get just as good acceleration as a non-hybrid with a larger motor, because the hybrid has the electric motor’s assist. Also, the electric motor has no turbo lag so the engine can be highly turbocharged, which makes it more efficient, without incurring turbo lag.
This is an article I never got around to doing. That poll showed that support among white women for McCain was virtually identical to his support among white men. Typically, there’s something like a ten percent difference there. There was an earlier poll that showed a similar thing happening in Ohio about a month ago.
Obama does have a problem there. To me, this is just another case of identity politics. All those idiotic charges of racism and sexism that went back and forth didn’t help this situation at all. I seem to remember being quite frustrated about all that, knowing that it was going to be a problem for whoever won. And here we are.
I don’t think they want to let the UN in on any of our decisions, they just want to have a forum where they can go and make arrogant nationalistic displays like Colin Powell did with the Iraq thing
I would look for McSame and/or Palin to find some opportunity to express their disdain for the UN while going through the motions of paying their respects
hey margot – is your corner of ohio still feeling ike’s impact on ya?
This guy likes SUVs a little too much.
I sense a New Yorker cover coming on.
I hope that’s the case. And if things keep going the way they went today, I suspect they won’t vote for him.
Also, I suspect white women will lose a lot of sympathy for Palin once a left-wing 527 exploits Palin’s charging for rape kits.
In many ways, the drive train is the car. It’s the portion that’s hardest to get right, in any case. It’s bit like saying that it’s OK if Japan or Taiwan build the motherboard and circuit components, because we make the computer boxes in the USA.
Maybe because they’d been paying $5 a gallon back in the early Nineties when I was last there…! ;-)
I think Obama needs some 527s going after Palin, though the MSM is doing some of that for him already. But he can’t count on them.
my sister in tuscon was aghast when i shared that little nugget with her on the phone tonight. she had not heard about that – nor about how alaska had to make a law forcing her town to not charge the victims.
He sounds like a politician all surface curves where people can see but no efficient engine policy to speak of. I remember a few interviews he gave he claimed the Prius was costing Toyota money and that GM was doing great and did not need to make hybrids.
GM having to beg for cash to make hybrids must be killing him:) I wonder how his mind will rationalize it?
Yes
ETette just finished her first post-college job – counting butterflies in the wilderness of the North Cascades National Park.
She applied for a job working for the Obama campaign in Seattle. They called her for an interview to be at the end of the week. When they asked her where she was from, and she replied, “Wasilla, Alaska,” they said – “Be here tomorrow.”
Teach her that there actually is a difference between Austria and Australia.
sigh…
woohoo, that’s excellent news et
The Alaska legislature had to pass a law to stop Palin from charging rape victims for collection of evidence.
Sarah Palin: Wrong for women. Wrong for America.
707! ;-)
If he said it I don’t believe it I think he is stalling for time and dreaming of 25 cent a gallon gas after Bush wins the war.
I wish her well!
Right. How much easier could it be?
Eric Croft, the guy in the AK legislature who sponsored the bill back in 2000, is running for Mayor of Anchorage. But he’s coming out very publicly this week, in his criticism of Palin. He held a press confererence today. The Anchorage media came, but have so far failed to report it.
i remember 0.19/gal gas – those days are long long gone… no matter what he wishes
I think in terms of making an emotional connection with women of all pursuasions, that is the go-to issue.
Right to abortion is a bit of a turn off, even to nonfundamentalists. It’s icky.
Troopergate get too complex, like a soap opera.
But charging female victims for investigating their CSI of their rape, that sticks. One can get a shocking image of that right away.
Yet another woman selling off her virginity.
Did he try and get by with vise grips or did he break down and buy a Metric set after stripping a few bolts.
I tried wrapping some nuts in sheet metal from a coke can to make a regular wrench fit on some metric motorcycle bolts as a kid…didn’t work.
I have no rational reason to trust him, though I do have some friends that might be in a position to give me some well-educated guesses. I’ll make some calls and see what I can find out.
Hi Suz, well, I guess a bit, yes.
The high school still didn’t have power today, but will be open tomorrow.
Further west there are lots of school closings. We had houses and cars crunched by trees here but as far as I know, no deaths.
It’s getting nippy today, and I read that the Farmer’s Almanac says it’ll be a cold winter. I’m buying coats at Goodwill.
I’m pretty sure I can remember 14.9, during the gas price wars, would have been the early 60s…
Imagine, competition determining the price of gasoline at the pump!
That would probably help. Obama tried to unilaterally disarm early in the campaign, though. I wish I remember who wrote this, but at least a couple of observers seem to think that it’s probably too late for a real effort by 527’s on Obama’s behalf.
I’ve been wondering if the press’s newfound skepticism of McCain and Palin has anything to do with all those folks leaving comments at The Swamp, et. al. I doubt Joe Klein could find water at the beach without some help. How else would he have caught on?
I’ve heard that there are plastic surgeons who retread them.
yeap, its a visceral reaction for sure
he broke down and bought a set… cussed the whole time (laughing)
i’m gonna be looking at the local thrift store for stuff when i move into the new place next month.
I’ve wondered that myself. There is obviously an untold story here.
But the press schools like sardines. And listening to them insist that they are free to write whatever they want is like listening to a sardine say that he’s free to swim wherever he wants; he just happens to always want to swim with his school.
Well if you got friends try and find out more about the volt and how GM’s hybrids should do against Japan also if GM gets the money how many volts and or hybrids do they plan to make how soon?
Ballpark estimates would be nice I understand some of this is still on the drawing board.
It certainly seemed like a harsh thing to me. They did this to save $14k a year or less. There were objections that they were paying for the emergency contraception that was also in the kits. So what? You don’t have to use the contraceptives, and it’s only a part of the kit’s cost. That just strikes me as so stupid and callous that anyone with even a semblance of a mind would think twice about letting her near the White House.
Toss in animal rights abuse slaughtering wolves and polar bear.
I don’t see the point. Personally, I’d be disappointed to find out a woman I was interested in was a virgin. No experience, nervous, awkward, wanting it to be special. I’ll take a woman who knows what she’s doing over a virgin any day.
Bloody knuckles from a bolt that strips in a closed space so your knuckles hit engine parts would have me cursing:)
Engine repair makes all men curse unless they are real good at it and there are no problems.
These guys are environmental engineers who work with GM counterparts from time to time. They might be able to find out how the development cycle is progressing, but wouldn’t know marketing and financial details.
“That just strikes me as so stupid and callous that anyone with even a semblance of a mind would think twice about letting her near the White House.”
I’m afraid there are quite a bunch out there who do not meet your criteria. The 30 percenters, and then some.
and lying, lying, lying…stupid lies, unnecessary lies, lies that can obviously be disproven…
The other thing about this discussion that I think ought to be emphasized is that this isn’t a $50B grant, it’s a loan. The loan to Chrysler back in the ’70s was paid off. As long as the U.S. auto industry doesn’t faceplant, it ought to be able to pay this one back, too.
IMHO Palin is an intrinsically mean person. She certainly is vindictive. And during her acceptance speech she derived too much joy from sticking the knife into democrats. She’s a “mean girl.”
Oh and what does GM think of the Aptera or

Must read, by my colleague and friend, Writing Raven.
not everyone is a pet person or an animal person but everyone had a mother and other females in their life.
Palin lies when the truth would sound better.
ohmygawd, et, this is horrible.
Tech details are good and engineers love to talk about what they are building.
Prominent Muslim cleric calls for the death of Mickey Mouse.
I wouldn’t worry quite so much. Apparently the flip in the daily tracking polls has peaked and is starting to trend back in the other direction. Palin has lost almost 10 favorability points in 3 days.
People may have been excited about a fresh face that really was outside the Beltway. But this scandal-a-day routine and the continuing lie after lie after lie even after they’ve been called on it by every news media including Faux Noise is starting to take hold as well.
The fact that the McSlime campaign is involved in trying to quash Trooper-gate gives people the impression that she really does have something to hide.
And the financial market meltdown means they lost the ‘lipstick’ story and a planned roll-out on attacking Oprah over her endorsement of Obana thing too.
McSlime saying what we need is a commission is not stacking up well against Obama’s 6-point plan for fixing this mess – a plan that he has been touting since March. The Obama camp is on the offensive again and it’s good to see.
Good point and I want real interest charged. The big three had their chance with Al Gore to make something and they blew it.
Hey, the little bastard had it coming …
What tracking polls? The only ones I’ve been able to find aren’t showing that change, at least not yet. (Gallup, Rasmussen, BTW). PFAW made that claim in an e-mail yesterday, but I could find no justification.
Thanks for that, ET
“Palin had a message today for Alaska that the local TV media did pick up – her message was to attack the man she fired and reverse her previous opinions and reasons. Her only message for Alaska today, the day Adak residents met, found out they no longer have a mayor and started planning how to restart their entire lives – her message was of defense of herself and an attack on a former employee”
That is not leadership that we can believe in
Let her crash and burn (figuratively of course, mods)
Wow, ET. As goes Alaska, so goes the nation.
Yes, they should charge at least prime rate, I think. What’s more, I think someone ought to be discussing why CEOs need eight-figure salaries and compensation to do their jobs badly. According to that article I linked, this is actually an expansion of a loan that was already approved. Finding out what the terms of that loan are would be interesting, no?
Obama gained a point or so on several of the major national polls today. I expect things to turn around for a while, but there will be the inevitable Willie Horton style attack about a week before election day, when it’s too late to recover. The real test will be whether or not he can weather that one.
Some are saying it will be effectively decided by October 15 due to early voting
I don’t know how to evaluate that
back to the days of yesteryear when it was every man for himself. the real lessons of katrina and ike – the government is already down the bathtub drain…

Jane really should post this I would love to see Sarah have to look all stunned that an MSM reporter knew more about her state than She does because they read the blogs:)
EdwardTeller tell Writing Raven that this is good writing and very good reporting its a scoop if we can just get the MSM interested.
Respectfully disagree with your logic///there are enough animal lovers in the USA “Lassie” etc
As Pet Owners and Animal Lovers Our Actions Can Stop, or at least Rein in the Cruel Actions of Governor Palin
If you read this you will see it may be enough to sbuff out her appeal.
Yes

I like it I think the car makers should have to live by it if they take our cash, but what is excessive?
that village of Adak could be an unfortunate metaphor for every American city or town that is hurting, every factory job going overseas, every family having their house foreclosed. McPalin has no heart. That is the message that we must communicate.
link not working for me?
lurk fixed the link, bb
The favorability rating thing was either on KO or Rachel tonight. My eyeballs are too tired to watch them both again to get it, but KO or Rachel (I’m pretty sure it was KO actually) were exclaiming about just how you could lose 10 points in 3 days – and then they started talking about all the lies…
I’ve seen speculation it was political, to get the hefty rape stats down. No rape kit evidence, no prosecution. Fear of paying for the tests, no crime report.
bigbrother link fixed. Try again.
That has a compelling logic to it
these people are evil
Its not just factory jobs. IT jobs, nursing, medical records, lawyering, even news reporting.
Last year I saw an ad from the Pasadena Star News looking for a reporter in INDIA to watch City Council meetings on TV and write stories.
How they were going to get quotes after the meeting I don’t know but there it was. Scary shit.
as a woman, i feel the women’s reaction is going to be stronger, bb.
every one can imagine their loved female being further traumatized by having to pay for her rape kit after being raped. it is a nitemare on top of a nightmare.
I’m done guys. G’night. Suze, thanks for the support. Sorry I’m not doing better.
Well, one thing in Obama’s favor is that he has not been slow on responding to attack ads. And in the last 48 hours they are getting faster. They had an ad up with McCain’s ‘fundamentals are strong’ remark within about 7 hours. I don’t know how much faster you can get than that. And both Obama and Biden had it in their stump speeches the same day too.
Governor Palin has offered a bounty of $150 for each right front leg of freshly killed wolves.

What no money for scalps or unbelievers?
nite that guy. feel better
I think they could start by comparing CEO salaries here with those in other industrialized countries. How many average worker’s salaries does a CEO make in Japan or Germany? Might not be the best answer, but I think it’s a good place to start. If I made what some of these CEOs made for one year I’d be set for life. When those same companies are demanding that their workers forego raises or even accept pay cuts, that’s not right.
Thanks for staying with this, and sorry all for getting stuck on this topic. But frankly I don’t see the parallel. When a US computermaker buys a foreign motherboard, the mobo manufacturing jobs are overseas. Whereas when a US car company builds a drive train under license of a foreign patent, the drive train manufacturing jobs are in the US, the only thing that goes to Japan is a royalty check. And it’s exactly because the drive train is the hardest part to get right that the better technology should be licensed -now- rather than making do with some not-ready-for-prime-time locally grown option. Work on that stuff, yes, but it doesn’t need $50B, and they should keep it in the lab ’til it’s production-ready. Meantime there is the very serious business of saving gas to get on with just ASAP.
sleep well and g’nite that guy
One scourge at a time, I suppose.
Palin should be hounded with that story until she cannot escape it
Every one of her lies and evasions should be fact-checked and rebutted
MSM, it is time to step up to the plate
And let’s see Obama get some surrogates out on the stump about this
I think it is a killer issue (figuratively speaking)
And hold McSame accountable too–he picked her, what kind of judgment does that demonstrate?
make him either denounce it (and condemn Paliln and acknowledge his poor judgment) or (more likely) defend it without a clue of what that will mean to the women and understanding men of America
It was KO, but he was using slight of hand. He was looking at the gap between her favorability and unfavorability ratings. So if 1% changes their mind, the gap closes by 2%. Even so 5% is an impressively big number for a three-day shift.
Suz you were a cop where does a small town mayor get the power to change police procedure about rape kits? Could Sarah say that fingerprints or radar guns were to expensive for the cops to use what about lawsuits from the victims?
Where did Sarah find the lawyers to comfort her small town’s leaders, who would protect them from the victim’s lawsuit that would have come sooner or later?
This almost seems like a set up for a test case to go to the higher courts?
exactly – lets pin palin on mcsame. hold him accountable for his choice
And it was a damn good ad too.
If this was happening in more towns in Alaska, maybe that would make more sense to me. The rape stats I’ve heard about relative to Alaska is that they’re high across the state. Alaska as a state is supposed to have the highest incidence of rape (I’ve never checked up on that stat, mind you). They only needed about a half-dozen of those kits a year in Wasilla. That’s not going to reduce the statewide totals very much, I suspect.
In a state like Oregon (leaning Dem right now) their actual voting starts on October 15. The whole state is vote by mail – so yes they will have decided before the election.
In states where there have been a lot of problems with EVM’s (electronic voting machines) voters are being encouraged to vote by absentee (paper ballots) and in many cases, those are mailed out from a couple to several weeks ahead of the actual election date. And they tend to reflect what is going on in the race at the time the ballots are filled out – not on what happens a day or two before the election.
With the main news polls oversampling Rethugs, and undersampling cell and VOIP users, early voting, racial issues, and the moose-factor I think that looking at polls is particularly useless this year.
Poll trends are more useful, but since they depend on all the other daily tracking polls for data – not much more so.
ca has victim rights laws on the book and they specifically address the rights of rape victims. if i remember correctly, in ca, the funding for sexual assault examinations came from the county health care system.
and lets not forget, not all sexual assaults are rapes and not all victims are adult women.
She is the top of the ticket. If Palin goes down, McCheese has lost. Period.
He’s pinned the whole thing on a brilliant Hail-Mary, and we need to bleed off the altitude.
I like your idea but lets add what does the CEO of a profitable and unprofitable company make in other countries?
What does a CEO like Carly, McCain’s adviser make when they are forced out for loosing tons of money, spying on employees etc?
It’s something of a time-to-market thing. Get the production lines rolling, and devellop your own drive train later. I on board with that. But don’t leave all the engineering jobs off shore. We’ve eventually got to be designing these things here.
There are approximately 74.8 million owners of dogs in the United States.
There are approximately 88.3 million owners of cats in the United States.
Called newsvine.com a beaytiful wolf tied to a airplane wing strut.
Lot of votes from pet owners. Just sayin animals are well loves by Americans. The Pet industry and veternary busines is multi trillion and they have buliten boards and then letters to the editor.
I agree but the big three could use Aptera tech cheap. Your way is faster and a proven tech though we could have all our cars hybrids which would save us tons of gas.
Cujo’s idea of limiting CEO pay however is a must if we want to get the most for our buck.
Well we all know animal lovers but can we get the MSM to give this story coverage?
We converge. But it doesn’t take $50B just to keep the US drive train engineers on staff while they study the Japanese drive trains. Remember, the automakers should immediately start earning honest profits (as distinct from conventional SUV profits) on the new hybrid vehicles they sell with the Japanese drive trains.
How ’bout we frickin’ JAIL the Detroit CEOs? That’ll save a bundle, car-costs-wise.
Coathanger Palin hates animals. She protects rapist. Isn’t that enough?
I should learn more about Aptera, thanks much for the lead.
Nite folks!
Yes. Coupled with her objection to abortion in rape cases. Fewer rapes, less reason to be concerned.
and she lies, she lies, she lies
Also, in other countries, there’s much more of a tendency to have people who really know the industry as CEOs. In the U.S. it’s bad for an executive’s career to be perceived as “too techy.” Hence, at apple they once kicked out Steve Jobs and brought in someone from Pepsi to run the place, and he ran it into the ground. Lotus hired someone from Coca Cola and he pretty much wrecked it.
This notion that if you can manage one enterprise you can manage any other is silly.
according to the census bureau, there are 305,175,611 people in the united states approximately half of those 305 million are female. statistically, 1 out of every 6 American women have been the victims of an attempted or completed rape in their lifetime (14.8% completed rape; 2.8% attempted rape).
thanks, wigwam. Yes – it still is a big shift for 3 days. But I do believe this issue of all the lies is going to backfire on her/them. Now apparently some staffer has ‘claimed’ that McCain invented the blackberry (in the same way they said that Al Gore invented the internet). Of course he didn’t – but there is the crowd number lies, the bridge to nowhere (yes they are still using that in their stump speeches!), the ‘broken teleprompter at the RNC convention’ thing, troopergate, the tanning bed in the gov’s mansion, the per diem for staying in her own house, Johnny Mac saying the fundamentals of the economy are sound…
And all that’s just for today and yesterday.
Howevermuch they try to pretend that none of this is happening, it is. Even Rove said the ads went too far. Fiorina says neither Palin nor McCain could run HP (of course she can’t either). But it just keeps dripping away. And even if the voters mail in ballots by October 15 – that’s still four more weeks of drip drip drip
Is stupidity a crime now?:) Nite again!
Bedtime for Hmm! Sweet dreams, all ye Giants of Late Late. Thanks Suz for hosting yet again.
Coathanger Palin
hatesenthusiastically legislates FOR cruelty against animals.g’nite things
First, the $50B is a loan, and it covers both research and improvements to manufacturing plants, according to that article. So it’s not $50B for a drive train.
Yes, we would get to build the drive train here under license. But we wouldn’t learn very much about how to make them that way. Not anywhere near what we’d learn by making our own. Plus, there’s no competition.
If trends continue, very soon we may find ourselves licensing chip designs from the Chinese. We’ve largely shipped our IC industry overseas, like so many others. And there’s no reason to think that Toyota’s manufacturers won’t just sell the parts to us at a lower price. As someone pointed out, it’s a flat world now.
And note, since this is a loan, there needs to be competition. Toyota already sells lots of vehicles here, and it’s confident it will be selling a lot more. If they’re going to pay those loans back, they’ll need to make cars that are good enough to compete.
g’nite hmmm
I don’t really understand the difference between big and little when it comes to numbers like that. But $50B sounds way too big to me. How much of that is the advertising/marketing budget?
Well, Carly got a ‘golden parachute of about $23 million I believe. Then McSlime says he’ll stop allowing these people to get them.
Yeah, you and who else is going to stop that? Congress can’t get the Rethugs on board to pass anything right now – and that’s why we really need to work on the down-ticket people as well – including the Blue Dog Democrats in the House and their un-named counterparts in the Senate.
and many of those women had men who cared about them
and could be outraged at the Palin position
Crap… US Embassy in Yemen attacked. See BBC, CNN International.

but I would like to see some of those drips displaced by some splashes
Goodnight, ThingsComeUndone.
It’s about time I headed out of here, too. Goodnight, all.

All there is so far.
And Reuters has a “Breaking” banner, no news.
Look at the link she is sitting on a bear skin. Decades ago the fur coat trade was made extremely politically incorrext and shamed. Chinchilla ranchers took big hits.
Madonna & the curse of chinchilla: What she should know about that coat
Madonna gets hammered for wearing a coat that caused abimal suffering. Animal right activist would chew Palin up and spit her out.
G’nite cujo.
G’nite TCU
and GWB’s Iraq attack/invasion/occupation was supposed to bring peace throughout the Middle East…
According to this article, that $50B for plant modernization and research.
Which answers what TCU and I were discussing earlier, too.
Now I really am out of here. Goodnight, all.
MSNBC

I’ve heard it said that male jurors are tougher on rapists than are female jurors, but that might be something of an urban legend.
I believe I would be pretty tough on them, if the evidence warranted it…
IMHO, they are asking for a lot more than they actually need. But it doesn’t hurt to ask. They are eventually going to have to borrow money to upgrade each facilities, so they might as well try for the lowest rates they can get and do it all at once.
I’m hoping that since they have quietly given the go-ahead to the 527’s that we’ll see ads:
from Votevets.org regarding all of McCain’s votes against the troops
Move-on is soliciting money for a whole series of stuff
Planned Parenthood has a good ad right now on the sex-ed for kindergartners stupid thing right now – and they should be able to do more with the rape-kit stuff and her cutting funding for unwed teens,
KO attacked her on the ’special needs children’ crap she’s spouting since she cut the funding for Special Olympics by over half
It’s so hard because the whiney babies in McCain’s campaign scream sexism every time anyone asks any question at all about Palin’s qualifications.
And of course, he uses the POW card to keep from answering questions about his own.
Obama is not really running against McSame/Palin – he’s runnning against the FCM – but there are some signs that even that unholy alliance is showing cracks now. Hope!
Hope indeed.
just like carly excused those who did not like the way she trashed hp by calling them sexist. they use it like its a get outta jail free card – for their use only tho – forget about the lily ledbetters in the country…
ok, pups, that’s about it for me tonight. thanks for hanging out with me.
time to take out those rubgy shirts and help desensitize lurk. g’nite all
That is a shameful and I agree it is a huge issue. Isn’t Edward listing a number of charges, I added a powerful one along with all of the others. Taking a life (I consider myself part of the animal kingdom) so don’t be killin my relatives I am saying along with 150 million others. The family dog or cat we love the critters we share the Earth with and have an Endangerd Species Law and animal cruelty laws to back it up.
Please add animal cruelty to the list and look at the post against Madonna for wearing fur.
Brothers, sisters, aunts, Uncles, cousind, friends no doubt.
Gore got a bum rap then, and McCain is getting one now. Per LA Times:
Payback’s a bitch! I love it.
But the fact is that congressional committees voted funds to develop various parts of our broadband infrastructure, so the senators that sponsored those bills and chaired those committees do share some of the credit.
And there is a difference between Gore and McCain in this regard. Gore took a relatively obscure idea that had been around for 20 years and pushed the U.S. to the forefront of communications technology by promoting it. When McCain stepped down we were number 15 or 16 among the industrialized nations in terms of our broad band technology. (My friends in Bejing have fiber to their apartments, and I’m told that Tokyo has 200Mb everywhere.)
nite suz
Yeah, and just dealing with the “Blackberry” issue:
Blackberry makes about 20 other devices that no one can use here because of limitations and restrictions placed by the broadband companies that were specifically allowed by legislation passed in the Commerce Committee. SO you can go to the Blackberry (canadian) site and see all the neat little items we are not allowed to have here – thanks to the Commerce Committee – and our fearless, technologically challenged, former POW, sometimes candidate.
And people wonder why the fact that he doesn’t “know how to use a computer” is a problem?
G’nite Suzanne.
g’nite suz
I’m trying to figure out why the right-wing pundits are dissing McCrazy. Maybe they’re convinced he’s sinking and they don’t want to go down with him. But I’ve never seen this behavior from them before.
I’m out. G’nite everyone.
Agreed. There are a lot of peculiar stands they can take about the party, but dissing their own guy this late doesn’t give them a lot of room to move. They may be reading the polls very differently than us paranoid Lefty’s. I’m just fine with that.
Good nite looks like TexBetsy getting sleep.
The markets were rescued btThe Fed and a whole lot of private capital was ordered into the system in a private attempt to rescue Wall street. Took a lot of collaboration and outside pressure. Will it hold up?
Well said Loky, McSame needs to wear this one too. It is getting heavy,
Ian whaled today excuse the expression. Mark to market…take your losses and get back to business!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I don’t think there is going to be an election. I think Bushco will declare martial law on some pretext or other before Nov and McCain is the sacrificial lamb. Of course Saracudda is too – but I think she’s too stupid to realize it and they certainly have not told her.
I predicted several years ago that this would happen. A sacrificial candidate would be run by the Rethugs and the elections would be cancelled.
So…can you think of any reason at all why in the entire country, in the entire Republican party, there is no one who is better qualified, more respected and liked by the GOP base, who ran this time? A whole cast of losers, of which McCain was the biggest loser of them all. Why?
Well, eyelids need toothpicks so I’ll say g’nite
