Just in time for McCain’s solo tour of Florida without his crowd-generating human shield, Sarah Palin, the St. Petersburg Times publishes an op-ed from one of John McCain’s cousins:
A part of me is made very sad to write this article. As I’ve said, my family has followed John’s life and career with no absence of pride. If there ever were a Republican we might consider voting for, it would have been my cousin John.
But, as he continually demonstrates in this campaign, my cousin John is long gone. "Straight talk" has been replaced with "flip-flop." Saddest all, this is the same man who, when campaigning in 2000, told a crowd of supporters, "I don’t think Bill Gates needs a tax cut. I think your parents do."
My parents, John, need some help after the economic destruction Bush has wrought in the last eight years, but it’s clear you’re not the one who’ll give it to us. America’s working families no longer recognize you, nor does your own.
First there was the story of Daddy’s Li’l Princess, Cindy McCain, and her conveniently forgotten half-sisters, so alienated and infuriated by their sibling’s sanitization of her personal history that they felt compelled to speak out. Now John McCain’s own cousins call him on his blatantly hypocritical campaign tactics, publishing op-eds in large circulation daily newspapers.
And yet the McCains are fetishized by the media as "common folk," just like you and me, only with more houses with more skeleton-filled closets. [See: Keating Five, Cindy's Drug Habit, et al.]
What more do potential McCain voters need to convince them that John McCain is NOT the maverick, the D.C. outsider he loves to paint himself as? How much more proof do they require that exposes John McCain as nothing more than a quisling politician who, for example, hires the very same RNC consultant responsible for the 2000 campaign sliming of his adopted daughter? A coward who once lauded himself as a moderate, but who now caves to the Religious Right and taps Serena Joy as his running mate?
I see the cousin’s point. Frankly, I wouldn’t want to have to invite him to family functions, either.

I hesitate to write…but from some point in the primary, I have had an intuition that this is Obama time. In whatever way the stars for transformation are lined up. A step in the race healing conversation. Even while the primaries were unique for both HRC and BO. This may be part of that story. I thougth part of the story has rested in the car wreck that is W Bush, a disastrous presidency, then mostly weak opposition. (Until the bimbo jumped out of the cake.) But if this is Obama’s time, as I pray, how great it is to have some family members, people he’s known all his life, come forth to say the man is unfit. Now if we can just get the medical records, and Nancy Reagan’s endorsement….I am counting the stars in alignment because it really is time for the new guy. I hope this is the story….please.

I had to check my computer to see what year it was, and was waiting for her to take four quarters out of her pocket to do demonstrate how big, bad gubmint was taking all the hard-earned $$ away from “us”.

• to fund corporations that move overseas
• to fund companies that keep their books overseas
• to pay cronys to do nothing
• to pay the interest on our debt to China for everything else/all of the above
If they are elected and we still have Harry and Nancy in the legislative branches, and “new” federalist judges everywhere including the Supreme Court, it’s the end of the Republic as we know it.

Got the story of how the Suwanee River go its name for you. The river in the 17th century was called Rio del San Juan de Guacara, named for the Spanish Mission to the Guacara (Wacara) Indians, one of the Timucuan tribes of north central Florida. From what I can gather, Stevie wrote it for them to perform at this one event, a benefit Pavarotti would put on every year for kids around the globe. Seems like this was the only time it was performed or recorded. Stunning song and performance, especially the last minute or so.
It depends on the court decision and how long they were married. I believe if it was 20 years or more, his retirement (actually considered reduced service and not retirement, since retirees can be recalled) pay is community property.

A thought about Faux turning on McCain. Since all indications McCain really didn’t vet Palin, could “they” have realized too late that she is really dangerous not only to Dems, but their plans. Like Bush, she plays politics really well. Unlike Bush, her personal advisers are loyal friends with absolutely no background in federal government. “They” may worry just like us that she is capable of launching a nuclear strike, because she hasn’t thought it through. “They” can’t get rid of her, because of the evangelicals. If they are to win some of the down ticket races, they have to have that turnout and McCain just isn’t going to do it. Just a thought and one that doesn’t make me feel warm and fussy inside.

At this stage of the game, I don’t really care what causes more folks to vote for Obama than McCain. I want my civil liberties and the rule of law back. I want our military to have mature civilian leadership. I want a properly functioning federal government that can effectively respond to emergencies. I want to read a newspaper or website and not be so totally appalled at the stupidity, cluelessness, greediness, and/or ruthlessness of our federal government.
If it comes down to actions by the National Enquirer and Faux talking heads to do it, so be it.

Maybe the corpocrats have figured out (1) that McCain’s health problems mean he odds on to die to the next 4 years and that this would put Palin in power, with all that entails.
Don’t buy it. They put Shrubya in there after all. The last 8 years have been so off the charts into crazyland that I don’t think they’re worried about having more nutcases in the White House.
Somehow, this latest coordinated messaging shift must be part of a strategy to win now. They’re close still to win this thing. I just can’t quite put all the pieces together yet.

If I can be excused a possibly wild analogy the corpocrats thought that by putting in Bush-Cheyney they were getting Franco or Salazar or Batista, but what they actually got was Kim Jon Il or Pol Pot or ….. They’re probably scared out of their wits this time. They thought they were using the fundies, but now they’ve realized the fundies were using them.
Yes, I did have that thought as well. I remember when Poppy Bush was all weepy a couple of years ago (he looked like he was depressed for a while there), and his buds like Brent Scowcroft were critical of Shrub, and it seemed like the old guard was pissed.
Thing is, these dudes were not much better. It’s almost like Shrub/Cheney made them look bad since the new guard took everything to extreme levels. Based on their own actions through their entire careers, I simply don’t believe the old guard (”corpocrats”) is all that upset about what has happened. They probably just have bruised egos.
Plus, if McInsane’s campaign implodes now, it’ll hurt the down ticket races across the country. What would the corpocrats have to gain from an Obama Prez, possibly 8 years and some Supreme Court justices, and probably the greatest DemocratIC gains in Congress ever? If they lose big this Nov, there’s a real chance all that the Neocon cabal has developed over decades could unravel completely. I don’t think they’ll go out quietly.

I think the National Enquirer, People Magazine and perhaps Vanity Fair should all do heartwrenching articles on the family that McCain has left behind in his mania for gaining the WhiteHouse. I am really sick of seeing Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama side by side with Britney Spears and some rumors of Whatever whenever I pass a newstand. In fact I volunteer to be the first to support a tawdry publication that starts publishing a lot more than half-truths about that gruesome duo McSame and Palin.
