Oh happy day! Jane on my TV! Just turned it on, can hardly wait, mere minutes to go!!
Break a leg, Jane!
JC
Oh and ET posted this last night
The Ed Schultz Show
Looks like Jane & Mona are coming up!
Jane’s on now!
The look on Jane’s face…
Chris Matthews…some talk about the Obama lack of passion. For some reason even Chris seems without passion. Odd. Good Morning.
ooh – this is gonna be good. My money’s on Jane.
You go Jane! Jane has to ask Mona to please not interrupt her.
Mona Charen is huge snob. Oozes condescension.
Mona Charen is a bit much to ask anyone to wake up to….
Agreed. Mona is horrible and she keeps interrupting Jane.
Love your shoes, Jane!
Punch her hard, Jane. Smack the stepford outta her!
omg – Jane’s tearing this fool apart…
If any reaches the CSPAN number ask about Health Care plans.
It’s my f’ing body and I choose. Just as military service is a choice in this country (a choice regarding a body), so should abortion or full term pregnancy be a choice. Miss Moan n’ Groan Alotta doesn’t want to talk about the substantive issues, only emotional subjective issues. What a pig! (no lipstick required)
Matthews panel: Sarah appeals to younger and independent women, not the HRC folks. She appeals to men for her toughness, story, and lots of men/husbands know women run things/are tough as nails. No one going after her negatives.
Good morning, pups. It’s Dowd, Friedman and Rich today. Ms. Dowd gives us “Bering Straight Talk,” and says an Arctic blast of action has swept into the 2008 presidential race, making thinking passé. Presidential candidates don’t really need to think; just intimidate. Mr. Friedman says we are “Making America Stupid,” and that unless we make America the country most able to innovate, compete and win in the age of globalization, our leverage in the world will continue to slowly erode. Mr. Rich discusses “The Palin-Whatshisname Ticket,” and says the cunning of the Palin choice is that a candidate who embodies fear of change can be sold as a “maverick” because she looks the part.
http://mgpaquin.wordpress.com/
The coffe and tea are ready, and during my errands yesterday I stopped at the bakery and we’ve got chocolate croissants to share. I also picked up some plain croissants for those who prefer them. Have a great day.
amen
Miss Moan n’ Groan Alotta -lol!
We need 527s.
Like, yesterday , please.
she is a reformer.. watch Jane now
Its obvious Jane doesnt like Obama very much
Now we have had all the talking points
Mona’s starting to sputter
Damn, I missed Jane on C-Span! Mona Charen is really a moron. I mean even for a conservative. Will we be able to see it on youtube or something? Damn I want to see Jane rip Mona a new one!
Jane is great on the tee vee.
Like so many others, Jane, in this election, is going to have to pick the lesser of her convcieved evils. This is democracy. Not everyone gets what everyone wants all the time. It’s called maturity and compromise.
This caller is funny. “gov. of a state with more dogs than people”
Wonder if he’s a firepup?
Don’t know who the current caller is but he’s chewing charen’s ass into extremely small pieces. You go, sir!
She’s still on, till 8:30
“Palin is as much a reformer as McCain” BAWAHAHAHAHA!
Mona, where’s your pointy hat, broom and cadre of flying monkeys??
Jane’s getting a lot of the key points in.
Jane did add a faux reformer.
Jane please mention that blacks normally vote for the democratic party.
The contrast of the rote talking points of Mona versus Jane’s obvious inherent intellect and knowledge is stark.
Sure but as crucial as this election is, going on the TV and not supporting our nominee isnt helpful.
Good Morning All
Jane rocks.
and Mona’s head is rollin’!
Unfortunately, this segment has become palin and abortion rather than issues :-(
I agree that it’s not particularly helpful, but I don’t think it’s particularly harmful either. Jane has developed a position in this democracy that is important. She represents a small contingent of the Democratic party that is in need of representation. I honor her passion and the passion of those she represents. I don’t always agree with her, in fact, there are many times when I vehemently disagree with her approach. However, I also believe that all opinions need be heard. Only then can a discourse take place, an intelligent compromise brokered and some degree of forward progress, however slight, comenced.
Yeah, Mona, what do you know about intellect? Your reading material consists of Cindy McPharmaceutical’s cook book.
Republican mantra = FEAR EVERYTHING! (so the rich can profit from it)
I supported obama like there was no tomorrow once he became the nominee and held hi hope for his presidency
then he showed to us all he is another corporate tool and would go against his own position when he failed miserably on fisa
he didn’t fail us, he failed this country, her constitution and the promise we held for him
he is clearly the better choice between these two but the very reason the energy disapeared from his candidacy was because of fisa
I no longer defend him vigorously and I am just going to hold my breath and hope he changes to the politician this country needs IF he is elected
the politician that will rebuild our infrastructure, the middle class, reclaim the assets that were taken from the middle class and infrastructure by getting it back from where it was misaproprated
but once he showed us he bends at the will of corporate pressure, my hopes are not high at all
time will tell, it looks like he’s blowing his chances in the general as mccain continues to remain close or leads in polls
I wish Jane would have done more with the health care isssue.
Facts will do that.
One of those “bitters” just said she switched from supporting Hillary to supporting John McCain, calling Jane, “Sarah?” Jane is made of sterner stuff than myself. I would have come unglued by this time, with Mona Charen sitting right across from me and biting her tongue on what she knows are lies.
Jane has restraint of steel. I would have been across that table within the first minute.
It comes down to GOTV please make plans to help Obama by volunteering to help.
The host of Washington Journal is a wanker.
Oh, noes, the bulldog that is Charlie Gibson was mean to poor wittle Sawah… I better leave this site and CSpan before I implode. “Nobody asked Obama anything…” Argh!
Good morning all,
Been sitting here watching this on tv. Seems like the moderator is leading the discussion away from the issues. Hillary has not been picked. Did she want to be picked. Let us deal with issues. Screw the argument of which poll says what. Issues, Issues
I had to turn it off. Jane never gets a word in and Mona spews lies unstopped.
pretty lame complaint isn’t it
Not only GOTV, but we have to be vigilent against the VanSpakovsky/Rove election stealing. I’m not sure how to get involved in making sure that doesn’t happen. I don’t know if ‘we the people’ have the tools to prevent it. This is the most concerning aspect of the election to me.
Well, I think Jane did very well. She was honest and knows her facts.
But I am partial.
Hillary wasnt even vetted either she didnt want the job or she refused to have her and Bills finances vetted.
She didnt lose the position to Joe Biden.
You have to be rude and interrupting to go against this right wing hack.
Way to go, Jane. You are a supreme warrior.
We can turn out record numbers of people and make it harder for them to skew results.
Hi, snowbird…..long time no-see.
I stuck it out to the end but understand exactly what you’re feeling at the moment.
We *will* bring this get-together finally together this winter, won’t we? *G*
Obama raised 66 million in August!
Why dont we meet in Asheville and volunteer for Obama.
No point here in TN.
if we lose due to voting “irregularities” is is our own fault, we have known the elections were rigged for 8 years, things have gotten worse not better
we can blame ourselves if it happens again
And then it gets labeled as a “cat fight”, as one caller said. Damned if you do and damned if you don’t. :-(
Yesterday I made phone calls identifying Obama supporters in the Atlanta area. The polls do not look good but you are right a large turnout could tip the scales.
I read that Obama is sending teams of lawyers where there are voting problems.
mornin’ all,
caught abut 10 minutes of it – thanks for the heads up Elliot.
would have loved to had our Dr Murphy do some Fristian-diagnosis-by-video on Ms Charen – dear gaia, does that balloon ever land ?!?!
could they find a scarier looking person to represent the right?
He’s just trying to be “Fair and Balanced”.
Obama is supposed to be in Pueblo,Co monday and up here in Jefferson county on Tuesday. I am going to be spending my birthday (tomorrow) attending some Obama mtgs and trying to get tickets for tuesday.
I find this polling report extremely depressing. Maybe another cup of tea will help.
Aville’s good. On the coast right now and thru the election so will have to vote absentee. Think an office was opened recently about 30 minutes away and plan to check in to see how I can help.
Mona’s a haughty piece of work.
it would be interesting to hear Kirk’s take.
I hear a woman right now on C-Span who is finally pointing out that we’re killing innocent people in Iraq right now and why is that different from abortion? Finally! We should point that out every time the wingnuts start talking about abortion.
Agreed. I think that will squash some of their attempts at grand larceny. I live in IL so we are in the tank, so to speak, for Obama here. I would consider travelling if it would do some good. I’ve always wanted to visit NC. Asheville, ya say??
Great last point by Jane on the McSame tax on our employer provided health care benefits (such as they are since I’m old enough to remember effective health care).
This is a game changer, IMHO, even the “What’s The Matter With Kansas” voters understand a tax increase, if little else.
I just got a cold chill…when Sculley asked Jane what worried her the most, she explained the shift of Independent women to John McCain, and when he asked Charen, she said in a coldly confident way…”I’m not worried. John McCain is going to win this election, and it will be good for America.” A chill went down my spine because I know what they are doing to cage voters in several states, and I know that the press is MIA on these serious lies and corruption of the McCain campaign. As a woman, as a woman of color, as a mother and wife…I am honestly afraid. More afraid than I have been under Bush/Cheney. More afraid than I have ever been as a woman of color. What is left of this country is now gone because of cheap tactics, racism and base gender politics. Mona Charen knows they steal elections, and she knows they will use these divides to steal this one. Fascism. Pure and simple.
Jane held her own , she made her points and and stuck to them!!
that’s what I am talking about, let’s hope his effort is profound and effective
don’t forget, we still have electronic voting, when they are there a paper trail does not usually make a differance against a flip unless there is a physical recount
Oh, yeah! Is the Dr. in the house?
that is depressing,
I think another two or three chocolate croissants are in order myself.
Absolutely !!
my 81 was for your 68 snowbird
reason #7,432 why Obama MUST win this election – to wipe the condescending smirk off Mona Charen’s repulsive visage….
Interesting…….some subsequent callers getting in a few points without having them filtered thru charen’s lying teeth.
Relax– Mona Charen doesn’t know Jack Shit. I also noticed that she refused to identify what worries her most in the election but I knew it was just an example of concervatives’ inbred dishonesty. They always puff out their chests and act confident. It’s all they know. Jane answered the question honestly.
That’s great, and I take polls with a grain of salt. I’m not a political junkie so maybe that’s why. I also am not surprised by what’s happening in the polls. I never expected a cake walk.
Good Luck! I tried to get tickets weeks ago to the VP debate in St. Louis, even before Palin was selected. I dig Biden’s personality. I had no luck. I may go down there anyway just to be in the thick of it.
I know
Asheville is close to me although I dont know how crucial it is as far as NC goes.. I could also go to Bristol Va where Obama has an office. First ever too.
Humph. I got a bumper sticker in the mail yesterday from the Democratic National Committee. It reads:
No Third Term. Time for Change.
VOTE DEMOCRAT
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the thing. I sent them the following e-mail:
Am I over-reacting?
I’m sure he’s still in dreamland.
wish I could think of a less dramatic example, but that was some Ted Bundy shit – someone wholly owned by her pathology, not a smidgen of humanity
We need to register more and more voters
A caller just said that Palin was a pretty face on the American taliban
I watched the show this AM and really appreciated the chance to see a left wing blogger in action. Now I understand how all those false rumors get started. As you made a number of statements that are demonstrably false. Palin didn’t fire the librarian like Jane said. She didn’t ”make” victims pay for their rape kits. Jane told only half the story about McCain health care reform talking about the benefits being taxable without mentioning the tax credits.
Jane seemed to come unglued when Charin discussed the facts surrounding a botched late term abortion. If you are able to confirm the facts of her example I hope you will post about that. Since she stated, ”that never happened.”
Actually, keep it up. Because the more you talk the better for McCain-Palin. Your cause, and politics in America, would be better served with less hysterical rhetoric, better manners and more fact based discussions.
BTW, you have a nice looking site.
Did I miss anything?
Am I over-reacting?
No.
No!!!
This is a pet peeve of mine. McCain called it the Democrat party the other night. Its just another insult.
you guys live in E.Tenn,so do i
Do you get extra credit from the McCain campaign for double-posting?
Yeah, lack of conscience is an epidemic on the right.
I’m not an expert on grammar but I think “Vote Democrat” is correct.
Anyway I don’t think we should make too big a point of it when they say “Democrat party” but we should just make fun of it when we see an opening. Same when they say “nukyuhler”. Just laugh at them.
i think KKKRove is freeping the pols
Your opinion is noted….and that’s about it.
I am in Greeneville
i live fairly near Bristol,Va…didnt know any firepups were close
oh goody…Johnson city
I will “Vote FOR a Democrat,” but I will “Vote Democratic.”
nah, just some really smart gurl reciting a fact or two up against a heavily medicated cell block matron :D
especially proud to be a Firedog this morning
Maybe we should focus on Missouri (or, Missoura) if you come from where I come from. I think it’s close there. Senator McCaskill might want some help.
I havent been here much lately but I didnt realize anyone was near me. Im close to Asheville
I’m in South Jersey, and we’ll go big for Obama here.I am going to help out in Philly though. And if you can travel go for it. I traveled to CT for Ned’s camapaign and it was a great experience.
That was a perfect example of how conservatives’ lies get mainstreamed. Charen said she would document the incident to “anyone who writes to me.’ But it will of course turn out to be false, but no matter– the lie is out there and it will be repeated endlessly by you conservatives.
BTW, if human life is sacred how come you supported killing a million innocent civilians in Iraq?
Jane, on Charen’s apparently made up BS story about the live abortion, you should have asked charen for the name of the nurse, the hospital, the parents, the date, the time etc – if true, she’d have all of the details.
Then shockingly, you actually complimented her as being honest, and you went against the caller who called her a propogandist and liar. Then a minute later you called her on her abortion story lie. It seems like you call her honest and a liar simultaneously. Why sugar-coat who these people are? Be tougher.
PLEASE PEEEEEEPLE
can we stop bashing Obama till after the election
if that old fuk dies we will have the worst batshit insane loose nuke for pres, and Darth will NEVER LEAVE
mokay?
Am I over-reacting?
No! If the bloody’ party can’t even get it right, we are well and truly forked. Every time I hear someone do that and there is someone there to refute it and they don’t, I’ve come to realize I have a much deeper supply of “last nerves” than ever imagined.
What I found interesting about the poster’s comments was the lack of facts. The Chicago Tribune recently debunked the blogger who started this lie about late term abortions. I’m sure the poster knows about the libarian being fired and rehired after the community was in an uproar is true. When the poster informs him/her self they will soon apologize.
TELEGRAMS lets flood western union with telegrams and document her response
I can relate to your vernacular…and I love it!
This is why I havent been around the lake much. Miss everyone though.
How far are you from Asheville?
good suggestion!
Claire will be on ABC’s This Week today.
im GODDAMNED SICK of it
these peeps dont understand
think things are bad now
THEY WILL GET MUCH MUCH WORSE….but ill be living in France
2 hrs
The only brown/black thing they care about is oil.
40 miles or so. Past HotSprings over the TN line.
Thanks, Elli. I’ll check her out.
Alaskan Woman Reject Palin rally BIGGER than goodbye rally for her
pics in link
this is the go-to Alaskan blog for all the TRUTH about Palin…
http://mudflats.wordpress.com/…..y-is-huge/
My family’s passports are legit and on stand-by.
Relax, guys. We don’t fall in line like the conservatives, we can speak our mind here. Besides, look at the silver lining– if Obama loses we’ll be more likely to nominate a real Democrat in 2012!
we could meet and plan some strategy
FAB TexBetsy…made me a wonderfull logo of the REPUKES needing waist high wading BOOTS to get through their bullshit,i can make flyers and tshirts and buttons
Will put you on an informal list I’ve been keeping for a pup meet-up in Aville if you’re amenable to a two hour drive.
Oh yes I remember why I dont come here. That is disgusting !
got mine renewed last year
and that is total BULLLKACKKKKKKKY
we will probably have martial law,imo
ET also has a good post on the rally,
you’re right about mudflats — definitely the go -to site on Palin
Charon claimed the Obama campaign was knocked off balance by the choice of Palin
I don’t see that Obama’s response has been even and well thought out
Would we want to see him panic every time a new problem pops up
Relax, Obama knows what he’s doing,The repugs just want to see us chasing our own tails!!
Good Lookin’Out, Sadly. I for the day when the thought of leaving doesn’t cross my mind. :(
I proudly support Barack Obama and believe he will win in spite of Clinton.
Ill go back to sites where we are fighting for him not waiting for 2012
yes but what the hell is the point of DEMOCRATS poking holes in his
MESSAGE????????????
some people are so dense, they DONT see that it could and will become MUCH WORSE here in the US of A…..it will be Authoritarian rule forever
ABSOLUTELY! His team is brilliant. They don’t get their feathers ruffled much and are daily producing one of the greatest political campaigns in our country’s short history. Patience is a virtue. The fireworks you all have been wanting are about to blow.
every person who has insight into polotics and this country has said
this is THE MOST important election of our lifetimes
There are extensive voter suppression efforts orchestrated by the Republican Party across the country, particularly in the “battleground” states. The Republicans have the potential of disenfranchising 1 million + voters and hardly a peep of the corporate media. This has to reach the MSM NOW, not after the election.
The call Charon on her offer to supply the facts, and post the response. Your Iraq rhetorical question aside, what should happen to a third trimester abortion if born alive?
I wish I could answer that!!
A Repug strategy to make us self destruct?
Lighten up, I was just joking! I’ll vote for Obama, I really like him (even though I don’d agree with him about everything) but I like the way he’s been talking lately.
I saw an interview with him the other day and the reporter was asking him to name a Republic president he looked up to. He was trying to get him to name the senile movie star, but Obama wouldn’t take the bait. He named Teddy Roosevelt.
Don’t be so serious!
Obama 08!!!!!
come on people – grow some god-damn balls – there’s too much at stake – so frustrating to see dems sit back and take so much sht. You need to be more like K Olberman – TOUGH
if dems let this old fart W-clone and a hockeymom and her first dude win, they have themselves to blame.
I have faith the man knows his shit!!
I’m a realist. Act for the best, prepare for the worst.
I just turned on Fox News and Knowles was holding his own. Chris Wallace pointed out that Sarah wanted somebody that she had hand picked to look in to her abuse of power. Knowles pointed out that it was the Republican legislature that decided to go ahead with it as is. Did anyone see the beginning? Karl Rove was coming up to discuss the electoral map so I changed the channel.
Your question makes no sense.
YES!!!
Me, too.
after going through many hurricanes when survival is in question,i know to ALWAYS have an alternate plan…and look at the BANKING DEBACLE!!!
To “post the response” will of course not work. Once the lie is out there it’s out there. Look at how many people still believe that Obama’s a muslim.
Obviously if an aborted baby lives anyone with common sense would keep her alive. We don’t need the government to tell us that! Why do you conservatives always want the government to make all your decisions for you?
she continues to lie
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin made her first solo campaign appearance outside her home state Saturday, sticking largely to a speech that has boosted her popularity among Republican faithful but drawn criticism for having misstatements.
The Alaska governor repeated her claim to have killed the now-famous “Bridge to Nowhere,” which her running mate, Arizona Sen. John McCain, has derided as wasteful pork. Palin first approved of the project. She turned against it only after it proved to be a political embarrassment.
That pic of Jane cracks me the hell up every time I see it. Sums up that whole event.
me too…but friggin Dems ALL FRIGGIN DEMS need to get on board ……………………………………….like now!
I might be your neighbor in France. Have dual citizenship. Maybe things haven’t gotten bad enough yet in the U.S.. Maybe there needs to be 75 million without health insurance. Maybe there needs to be more people living in their cars. Maybe there needs to be thousands more body bags sent to American families. Maybe more jobs need to outsourced. Maybe more layoffs need to occur. Maybe more retirees need to lose their retirement packages. Maybe more of the tax burden needs to be saddled on the backs of working class Americans. Maybe it’s just the inevitable collapse of a society that has become far to corrupt, shallow and ossified.
good…..let her and the OLD COOTE keep lying
Really glad you are paying attention to all these things. The neo-cons prevailing strategy is distraction and diversion. Look over here while we fuck you over there. Fucking nazis.
very well said…my French stinks..but what happens when 100 million working “poor” have NOTHING TO LOSE
How often are there partial-birth abortions?
One a day?
one a week?
one a month?
one a year?
Does it happen at all?
In the scheme of things …
thanks for the reminder,
Karl Rove! good think
they are DRAINING OUR TREASURY ,and that is why their response to CATASTROPHES is so poor imo
Agreed. For the lesser of these…the Dems need to put aside their minute differences.
Since January, Indiana has had 539,325 new or updated voter registrations statewide. Overall, there are more than 4.37 million registered voters in the state.
Indiana is this year, as always, looking like a Repub win – but it is *much* closer than at any time in my conscious lifetime. Who could deliver Indiana? Bill Clinton, campaigning in the southern part of the state.
To quote the chorus in Marat/Sade “We want a revolution and we want it ……………..NOW!”
If you believe in no government you will do anything to destroy it.
The red states are going to vote red no matter who Elmer Fudd puts on his ticket ,and those are the same people who are so excited about Mc and palin!! don’t let these people unnerve you!
Jane said that McSame would raise working people’s taxes $2000 by taxing us for employer-paid health care. Why isn’t Obama pressing that point?
doctors and their patients are the only people who should be involved in this, this isnt PRE revolutionary France where the queen GIVES BIRTH in PUBLIC…………..man we are so archaic
He has and is.
yah even the FOSSIL that is Greenspin said it was preposterous
Not Bill. Bayh and Hillary.
We can’t help it. We have one broken X chromosome and we’re missing some important shit from that broken off leg. :-)
And now the moment we’ve all been waiting for (and it does not disappoint)
Ladies and Gentlemen . . .TINA FEY!
In other news David Foster Wallace hung himself.
That’s right. This whole partial birth abortion thing is a whole lot of malarkey.
The woman, with the advise of her physician, knows what is best. And the instances of late term termination is infintessimal.
Too bad those who scream “partial birth abortion” aren’t so concerned about children once they are born.
The whole thing’s a Luntzian scam.
cannon fodder for their INFINITE wars
Not Bill. Bayh and Hillary.
Agree re Hillary – she would be better but is probably more valuable elsewhere. Put her in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida.
Bayh is as inspiring, and as convincing, as a bowl of cold oatmeal.
Critical thinking takes time away from playing with their toes.
the fodder can NOT even have their funerals, and coffins shown for posterity, they must go QUITLY and without notice…hope i dont start crying
Yeah, but SO IN digs oatmeal. Right? Aren’t you in IN?
If it is a lie, she should be held accountable for telling it, or repeating it. That is the reason for posting the response.
I am “pro-choice” to a point i.e. first trimester, but I believe that society should have laws against rape, murder, embezzlement, etc. You shouldn’t have those laws either since they common sense would dictate not to engage in those behaviors. This late term story, if true, is an important anecdote about where we are as a society.
Both sides are wrong on this issue. One side says no abortions ever even in the case of rape and incest. The other says an abortion anytime you want one right up to delivery. The moral conscience of the country is somewhere in between. No?
The larger issue is whether or not businesses will continue to carry health insurance for employers. As businesses drop health insurance those with pre-conditions will not be insured. The rates will go down for the healthy and the young. Obama needs the help of the MSM to cover these important details.

Yes but if a mother’s health is in danger or the fetus is no longer viable, she should not be forced to carry to term. I can remember the time when females had to carry non viable fetuses because there was not a safe procedure to remove it. For those unfortunate souls, can you imagine the damage done when someone would unknowingly ask about the pregnancy. You have to be careful on what procedures are overturned. As Obama says and Clinton did we have to lower the amount of unwanted pregnancies in this country. Abstinence only doesn’t seem to work.
Brilliant!
What are the facts on “partial-birth abortions” ?
elmer fudd- that is so funny! and so true.
it’s to the R’s benefit that the population get’s dumbed down, it has worked so well in placing a chimpanzee in the whitehouse twice, of course it may work again, and more effectlively as generation after generation perpetuates the decline. It is a long term strategy to weaken the masses through decreasing “edumacation”.
R’s pitch should be: Sensory deprivation got W where he is today, why not try it with some 2 faced pale old fart.
seriously though, the strategy eventually concentrates wealth and power at the top for the elite by eliminating power in the middle class. “Murica” will become May-hee-ho.
And all the while, this un-fukking-bee-leev-ably stupid population continues to vote agains their own interests.
Too busy thinking of fruit cups !
Who in what kinda car?
I agree it’s sad that both sides are so far apart that there’s no room for compromise.
But the whole thing is a fake issue. These people do not value human life in the first place, they favor the death penalty and war. How do you even talk to people who are so dishonest?
Yeah, but SO IN digs oatmeal. Right? Aren’t you in IN?

Rethug ideology is that once a baby is born it’s on its own. If they practiced their mantra of all life is sacred there wouldn’t be any children in orphanages or foster homes, we’d have clean air and water and the land that provides our food wouldn’t be poisoned. Oh, wait, it’s only human lives that matter to these people. The only species on earth that destroys the environment it needs to survive is considered “superior” to all other life forms. I’ve never seen a squirrel that wasn’t smarter than a Rethug.
Abstinence only doesn’t seem to work.
gee, where’d you get an idea like that?
I stand corrected, jayt! :) Sorry for the generalization.

The Swiftboaters are back — with millions — to attack Obama

You knew this was coming. The GOP side has fully funded its 527 operations — and they’re coming after Obama:
A new group financed by a Texas billionaire and organized by some of the same political operatives and donors behind the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth campaign against Sen. John F. Kerry in 2004 plans to begin running television ads attacking Barack Obama, a signal that outside groups may play a larger role than anticipated in the closing days of the presidential race.
The American Issues Project has amassed a multimillion-dollar fund, and the group is putting the final touches on an eleventh-hour campaign targeting the Democratic presidential nominee, sources said.
“We expect to be doing both issues and express advocacy between now and November and beyond,” said Christian Pinkston, a spokesman for the group.

BRISTOL PALIN
Bwahhahahahahahahahahahaha
Good Point! I for one do not want to go back to the dark ages where doctor’s are told what procedures they can and can’t use. I’m in my late fifties so I remember the stories about coke bottles. I remember when thalidomide was prescribed as an aid for morning sickness and those with money could travel overseas and those that didn’t were forced to deliver very deformed children. I remember people carrying to almost term with non viable fetuses. We need to move on from this issue as a nation.
Oh, wait, it’s only human lives, with an income at least in the mid-seven figure range, that matter to these people.
just tryin’ to help…
I couldn’t hear it here in Panama. Will you have it up later, I hope?
One more thing we need to work as a group to help Obama get elected. We can’t afford another four years.
A coworker of mine and I were talking about this on Friday. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for sexual longevity for all, but there is a disconnect when restrictions are put upon women’s right to birth control but it’s a free-for-all for men’s access to ED medication. Let’s all ‘get it on’ safely. :)
I believe Obama softened his position on the 527 groups the Dems will soon have their own adds running in battle ground states>
I think so, Loo Hoo

Late arrivin’ — has somebody posted the link to Mudflats report about the Alaska Women Reject Palin rally yet?

And won’t jane and everyone who is disappointed in everything Obama has done feel righteous when McCain wins. This is a tough battle to win, and without everyone on our side doing everything we can to get rid of McCain and Palin, our effort will probably fail.
I have had it with the perfect candidate we all want to see. Even John Kennedy wasn’t perfect, nor was Clinton. Nor was FDR. But we need to get rid of McCain and Jane this morning indicated that without Hillary for Prez or at least VP, she just doesn’t believe Obama can win. Talk about a sore loser. I thought the dems were better than that. No wonder I don’t come here very often.

Thanks for the links. And to all those beautiful, strong and intelligent women in Alaska (not the Palinites)…THANK YOU!!

I think you probably need to go back and listen to what I said, which was attributing the success that the McCain campaign has had since the RNC in dominating the news cycle to the Sarah Palin phenomenon. If Obama had chosen Clinton, McCain would probably not have selected Palin in the first place. It was an observation about the chess moves of the election.
I understand if you’re busy, GrandmaJ, but I think you may be relying on the accounts of others that are proving unreliable.
this is way too simplistic, imo…the press and 50% of the country hate the CLINTONS and all their baggage, and quite simply,Bill would not be vetted…enough…lets REALLY get behindn Obama now!
these 2 CRAZIES are about the worst 2 i could imagine ,except for GHOULIANI

It’s here
and ps…Obama was my third choice, behind Dodd, and Edwards…but i see the writing on the wall, and it looks teh scary
i hate to give her a hit…what does she say?
Discounting the third party candidates, this election is between two groups. Choose one and we continue down the path to destruction, choose the other and we have a chance to reverse some of the damage done to the people of the world. I’m for repairing the damage not increasing it. Obama doesn’t float my boat in many ways but Palin/McCain has me preparing for a Nazi-like takeover of our country.
I assume you’ll put this up on EW’s trash talk thread. bmaz is a big F1 fan.
speaking of Third Party Candidates:
Road To The White House: Third Party Candidates & Campaign 2008: Green Party nominee Cynthia McKinney on why she’s running as a third party presidential candidate. Then, Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) & third party candidates Ralph Nader, Chuck Baldwin and fmr. Rep.Cynthia McKinney held a press conference urging voters to vote for a third party candidate.

cant bare to watch it!
it’s pretty long,
the case she was talking about would violate existing laws, and the allegations she made about couldn’t be substantiated.
Thanks for the reply. I did see the spot this morning and watched it. You did make many good points, but admit I got angry (well as angry as grandmas get I guess) when you said Yes when asked if it was a mistake not to pick Hillary. Of course Palin was a response to Obama’s NOT picking Hillary. Charen was trying to stoke the conflict within the dem party (as if they ever ISN’T conflict) and you helped that.
If Hillary had been picked the Obama ticket, would have become the Clinton/Obama ticket as far as the media goes. And I suppose that would have made the Hillary supporters very happy.
I am a woman, older, and I have not really been a fan of the Clintons since they left office. And her vote for the Iraq war still leaves me absolutely cold. No excuses on that one wrong vote. But am fully aware that Obama has now taken positions that I am strongly against. But the Iraq vote was huge in my mind. There are votes that stand as reflections of ones own morality. And that is one. Paul Wellsone, a hero in Minnesota, took a tough stance and voted against it when it was months before the election. And his polls when up immediately. People could see through the charade of the vote.
I too really want a woman president, but Hillary was not the right candidate. And with all of Bill’s pandering over the last years to the Bushes and others, he would not make a good political spouse. IMO
I sure hope we can all pull together to get obama elected, because the coming days are going to be awfully hard. And we need everyone 100% on board.
some woan posted about a friend of hers who was carrying twins and one died, and the trials and tribulations SHE HAD to go through,to survive herself
THIS SHOULD NOT BE….this much i know
No, it won’t be like that. It will be like the cities in Germany after Hitler became chancellor. The police will be in control of our daily lives, taking their orders from the ideologues surrounding Palin/McCain. There will be national ID cards, no work for those suspected of “wrong thinking,” etc. Think a combination of Nazi Germany and 1984.
sure hope we can all pull together to get obama elected, because the coming days are going to be awfully hard. And we need everyone 100% on board.

I think that taints her credibility some!!
This is getting freaking old. Here we are, once again, with a campaign that the big issue is abortion. Abortions are legal. America has became a country that equates reality TV with the real world. Lets stop the BS. The government has become a corporatist front. The people are there to consume until they are on the street then fuck em.
yep
in a nutshell, and then all shall be RE..possesed
ya know the argument is just ridicoulous,UNLESS we bring back orphanages
it costs almost 1 million dollars to raise a child past college
unless we give woman and families some help, who can afford this, only rich people, who have fewer children………………..sheesh
Yes, SD, the police will do what they are told …
The military will do what they are told …
And Blackwater will more than happily do what they are paid for …
But I’ve yet to see the left bother to articulate a coherent version of the future that the frightened millions in this nation might embrace and find worth fighting and standing for. Unless the easily frightened ones are emotionally bonded to a hopeful, humane vision, they will always chose the hateful expediecy of ‘believing’ the most-dangerous of mindless drivel.
Apparently we, on the left, would rather chase after every single outrage and then act dumbfounded when another is run up the ‘Merkan flagpole.
The outrages will continue … until.they.are.stopped, which will be neither easy nor ’safe’ …
Josh just posted a link to the USNA Honor Concept.
Must reading.
Hi DW, long time no see.
After Viet Nam the left thought Washington would continue on a path of sanity. They weren’t paying attention and the reich gained total control of the media, built up their local cells and by the 80’s had the means to control the agenda. Americans have become, as a generalization, a self-centered, fat, dumb and lazy people.
ABC
George Will
says he would have flunked the Bush Doctrine test, claimed they are multiple Bush Doctrines.
Of course Palin never even heard of it in the first place.
don’t lose focus everybody stay on track forget the trivial BS and stick to the issues
the economy, healthcare for all , the war in Iraq, thats what Americans care about!!
And Jane,( if you’re still here ) great job this AM!!!
Yes, SD, as a people we are fat, narcissitic slobs and thereby perfectly aligned with our nation’s well-deserved title of ‘the Last Great Empire’, and, as the sun sets on our ‘prospects’, we are content to have power in the hands of the Rapturous Ones.
Heaven is going to be just like ‘Merkan used ta be … all the right crowd, no crowding and no admittance for those whom the right crowd despises. Which just happens to be all the rest of us (including the ‘low-info crowd’) who were only hornswoggled for their abiding ignorance and disdain of the thinking process.
America and Americans, henceforth, ’til the end of time, unless there is courage and profound wisdom somewheres, will continue to be a destructive, violent, wasteful and careless diminishing ‘force’.
Earth will abide.
Humankind’s EXIT shall not be accompanied lamentations from whatever life- forms might survive us.
The cockroaches and rats might miss us, but in time, it will be as if we never existed.
Such a waste, afterall this place is ‘Paradice’ and we never really came to appreciate it.
Just think about how wonderful the rapture will be

I shall, doubtless, remain ignorant and un-uplifted the rest of my daze.
On the other hand I do try, and no doubt there are many who will stand, in solidarity, behind me, all more than willing to agree, in my support, that I can be very trying, indeed.

“It was the worst of times, and it was the worst of times.”
I imagine that’s what Charles Dickens would conclude about the current condition of the U.S. economy, based on the relentless drumbeat of pessimism in the media and on the campaign trail. In the past two months, this newspaper alone has written no fewer than nine times, in news stories, columns and op-eds, that key elements of the economy are the worst they’ve been “since the Great Depression.” That diagnosis has been applied twice to the housing “slump” and once to the housing “crisis,” to the “severe” decline in home prices, to the “spike” in mortgage foreclosures, to the “change” in the mortgage market and the “turmoil” in debt markets, and to the “crisis” or “meltdown” in financial markets.
Matthews needs retirement. Brokaw needs to go back to it.

AND YALL CAN GO POUND SAND!!!
If “stoking the conflict within the Democratic Party” means telling the truth, then I guess I did. I don’t know what’s gained by answering a question dishonestly. In retrospect, I think it was a tactical mistake, but life goes on.
I also don’t think there’s much of a conflict about the subject within the party. I don’t think people are unhappy with Biden — I know I’m not, and said as much. Did it give McCain an advantage he didn’t need? I think it did, and Joe Biden himself admits Hillary might have been a better pick. So I don’t know what the “conflict” is.
I see more “conflict stoking” here:
That’s just ugly, GrandmaJ, and well beneath who I have always thought you to be.
You may have a point, and I will be very happy if you are correct, but the fact is, we’ve been taking the “high road” for 40 years and we’ve had 28 years of ‘puke rule.
Until we start using their tactics, we will continue losing.
There are 10 minutes left in the game and Obama has benched Ronnie Lott, Fred Dean and Lawrence Taylor (by muzzling the 527s).
More “high road” bullshit.
The “high road” is WHY we keep getting our asses handed to us election after election. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, we have to adopt their tactics in order to win. We can raise the level of discourse as much as we like after we win.
But we must win BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY. Think 49ers-Denver in the Super Bowl. We must CRUSH them. As long as we stay on the defensive, we’ll be seen as losers because, sadly, the majority of the American electorate is a bunch of semi-literate Cletuses whose only requirement of a President is that he/she “Kicks ass.”
When we say, “Oh, we won’t stoop to that level,” those idiots’ beliefs about the Democrats are reinforced. “Hell, Bubba, those pansies won’t even defend themselves, how can they possibly defend US?”
They’re FAR too ignorant to understand that by voting for the ‘pukes, they’re voting against their own economic interest. It’s documented and re-documented, and if you try to tell them, you might as well be telling a tree.
We have to get down and dirty. Once we win, we can be all bipartisan ‘n shit, but until then, we have to do a jailbreak blitz and hammer them Like Ronnie, Fred and Lawrence would.
Otherwise, get used to saying President Palin. McClusterfuck will die in office, I’d bet on that one.

What will you do, sadly, if our worst fears are realized?
My guess is that you will continue to ‘fight’, as shall we all.
Sadly, we face the very real possibility (not yet a ‘certainty’) of not just four years, but the blossoming of full-blown fascism, quite as Southern Dragon has described it, where those who don’t ‘go along’ will not be allowed to even hold a job, and where all movement and all thought is restricted, monitored and judged …
Should we be permitted to ‘win’, then we, the people MUST INSIST upon a strict accounting and appropriate consequence for those who have mounted an internal assault upon the nation, amounting to TREASON, no less, or we shall be ‘right’ back in this lose-lose situation, only far more forcefully assaulted than even today.
One wonders why the Democratic ‘leadership’ in Congress does not understasnd this.
The only explanantion is that regardless of what happens, the political class will feel no pain. That will be reserved for others …
I didn’t like the part where JANE CAME INTO THE THREAD TO SAY HELLO, and no one even noticed.
Too busy arguing about Obama/Clinton… or?
We need to be aware and work together, folks.
THis is EXACTLY right, yet many still cling to the notion we must take the “high road” with regard to campaign tactics.
I say again, we must win, BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY. Nothing short of victory can even be considered an option. And to those who say “I’d rather lose than stoop to their level,” you WILL lose and DWBartoo’s scenario will find you leading the line into the gulag.
Is THAT what you want?
Perhaps, jacqrat, we all expect someone ‘else’ to do those things?
Perhaps ‘that’ is the ‘problem’?
With you 100%!
Haven’t read ALL the way through ALL the comments yet, so perhaps someone’s covered this, but I suggest you contact the Obama campaign [even on-line] and let them know you can travel. During primaries I volunteered to go to NH, and they were good about follow-up. [Didn’t get to go because we then decided to move + sell house, and there was a LOT of cleaning up that needed to be done.]
Elliott: Now that Charen has responded, will Jane correct her, “it never happened” statement? Judging from most of the comments I have seen, I tend to doubt it.
This is the first time I have visited a left wing blog. I am surprised by how bigoted and mean spirited much of the discussion has been. Just because some people have a different view of what role the government should play in their lives, it does not make them “shrews,” “Nazis,” “murderers” or some of the other names those who don’t agree with you have been called.
If you truly want to form a coalition to confront the challenges we face, elevate the debate.
I saw the Hamsher and Charden talk on C-span this morning and all I can say is the right cannot accept the fact that Palin has lied nor is she qualified to be VP. All I can say is given the ticket of Mccain and Palin is nothing more than more of the same of GWB. The only question is what do we do about defeating this two.
Most of us get sick when we visit right wing blogs. (Actually, mean-spirited is a good description for a lot of people any more. And just about anyone who starts talking about ‘values’ as if there’s only one set that people should use.)
justthefacts,
How often are there partial-birth abortions?

Yes it does. Read the testimony. You posted the link to it. If it is more that once is that okay?
