Mr. Dodd’s analysis proved to be somewhat deficient. President Bush signed the Housing Recovery bill on July 30, 2008. This bill gave the Treasury authority to put the U.S. taxpayer on the hook for all of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac’s bad decisions.

It appears that our political leaders believe in capitalism when there are obscene profits that benefit their hand picked cronies, but prefer socialism when it comes to sharing the losses with taxpayers. The Congressional Budget Office estimated that the American taxpayer would end up paying $25 billion for their mistakes, with a 5% chance that it would reach $100 billion

http://seekingalpha.com/articl.....-precipice

I wonder what the odds look like now? I say tax the rich who got us into this mess.

Freddie Mac as a private corporation in 1970. This relationship with the Federal Government gave rise to the concept of an implicit guarantee from the government regarding their debt. This allowed these two companies to borrow at much lower rates than the average financial institution.

It wasn’t enough for these two institutions to reap the benefits of their implicit guarantee. They spent $175 million between 1998 and 2008 on lobbyists to influence Congressmen and Senators so that their housing agenda was pushed forward and expanded.

My bold I wonder if there is a link between money spent on government lobbying and corruption?

FYI Carlyle Group invest in the war machine. They acquire large military MFG corporations that might be influenced by a friend that happens to be president of USA. Nice work if you can get it and you can get it if you can steal an election. Jim Baker of Baker and Botts of Houston TX is on the Board of directors. Remember him leading the charge in Florida to take the election to the courts? SCOTUS,
After that the miiitary contracts rolled in and Carlyle Group made a bundle. The Saudi Royal fund made bundle as daddy warbucks got them to invest in the killing machine that whipped their Sunni brothers! Warbucks also got a pile from Korean investors as well.
Dick Cheney was riding shotgun for the oil indistry with Junya in the drivers seat as the “Decider”. AIPAC and the neocons were cheerleaders the Iraq War was on.
Now the replay with Pitbull Palin and 100 year war McInsane.

Gold and silver are down now and have been for about 6 months remember their people believe the same Chicago School of Economics crap they do they are buying for the long term and holding.
Holding companies that need a good economy to be a value. The Carlyle group does not impress me.
They a bunch of prowar politicians investing in the military and aerospace and making a quick killing nope it sounds like insider trading rather than genius picking stock it seems like they new which companies were going to get the contracts. I say we investigate them after all Bush and friends have security clearences I think that means we can lie detector them to see if they misused intelligence to make investments.
Now with the end of the war military spending should tank. Thanks to loosing a war for oil Aerospace should tank thanks to higher fuel costs.
The Carlyle Group will have to find another way to make money.

OMG, looks like maybe the Metrolink engineer was texting instead of looking for the stop signal. OMG. I’d heard those guys were egregiously overworked, some were on drugs in order to cope, and some were suicidal… but 25 dead from freaking texting?

Thats a hedge fund they took Bear out by having one of their funds go under which means Bush lost money. This is the first good news all night I thought Bush must be loosing money in this market but this is the first proof.
I want the numbers for the Bush family trust and what they are invested in I don’t think the numbers for this year will be good.
