1982. John McCain goes to Washington. Things have changed in the last 26 years. But McCain hasn’t.
He admits he still doesn’t know how to use a computer, can’t send an email.
Still doesn’t understand the economy. And favors two hundred billion in new tax cuts for corporations, but almost nothing for the middle class.
After one President who was out of touch…We just can’t afford more of the same.
For the disco ball and McCain with sideburn-ish hairiness pictures alone, this one is worth the watch. But when you get to his slick-assed grin while standing by George W. Bush at the end? That says it all.
His badly vetted Veep selection keeps flaunting her shallow depths in public: Iraq was part of the 9/11 attacks? Discredited ages ago, dear. Doesn’t know what preemptive doctrine is? Yep, there’s a finger I want on the nuclear button. So the ad has a double whammy of hitting McCain in his cluelessness and his lengthy time inside the Beltway, at a time when his "fresh face" is looking not so fresh. Yowza!
Credit where credit is due: Rahm Emmanuel said on a call this morning that with McCain/Palin, you get the economic policies of Bush and the foreign policies of Cheney. Ugh. More of the same in an even less-appetizing package. Who would have thought that possible?
The second ad is Obama, looking directly into the camera, and speaking to the American people, rebutting the GOP whisper campaign head-on. And I think it may be the more effective of the two — see what you think:
Here’s the script on it — but you have to watch it to really get the tone:We’ve heard a lot of talk about change this year. The question is, change to what?
To me, change is a government that doesn’t let banks and oil companies rip off the American people.
Change is when we finally fix health care instead of just talking about it.
Change is giving tax breaks to middle class families instead of companies that send jobs overseas.
Change is a president who brings people together.
I’m Barack Obama, and I approved this message because this year, change has to be more than a slogan.
So, what do you all think? What works and what doesn’t for you?

Morning Christy! (Now to read.)
Considering that McCain uses a sleep drug that has people acting without recall, that 3:00 AM call has me just a little bit worried.
Morning, Ann — how’s tricks?
Morning Christy, two good ads but McCain came out with a new and brutal negative ad that goes right for the lizard brain. Obama needs some lizard brain ads. Wish Obama would have hired George Lakoff 6 months ago.
MSNBC is reporting about these new Obama ads right now.
First ad. the computer/internet thing. doesn’t work. Nobody cares realy. remember? big election. not about small things. now, not knowing about the economy (by his won admission) and riding around in a golf cart 9is that with old Bush?) is great. the juxtaposition of the younger McCain and this wrinkly old fart today is great. very good.
second ad = okay-pretty good.
So far, so good! How does Peanut like school this year?
“McPain Campaign”
1982.
I didn’t even have a VCR back then.
I don’t think we even had CDs!
I think Steve Wozniak was still working in his garage!
bom dia pups
i really like the 2nd ad.
i’m not much for negative ads (no matter how much they are deserved)
Don’t you mean: “
McPainMcPalin Campaign”Morning Christie
The ad is pretty good but I think that something like if you don’t tell the truth you are a liar would be more appropriate. Ike is going to disupt the news cycle crap. Come out with stuff like this after.
wrut wroh……hehehehehehehe
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..25944.html
I saw the second ad this morning on tv.
FWIW, I think the second is more affective. The first one seems nit-picky about stuff that maybe doesn’t matter to most Americans.
So, I agree with beerfart on that point.
I haven’t seen the new McCain ad yet.
I’d like to see some O Ads with Joe Biden in them soon.
Show how much He Knows, as opposed to the other VP candidate.
Watching her last night, didn’t you just want to send her to the kitchen?
Yes.
I am truly concerned that McCain wants to fight many countries and we do not have enough troops and he will use nuclear weapons. There is a great video of Scott Ritter saying that if we nuke Iran a major city in the US will be nuked in return. Using that in some way might scare people (as they should be scared) of a McCain-Palin presidency.
Too little, too late. As I said in Jane’s previous thread, there are 10 minutes left in the game and Obama has benched Ronnie Lott, Fred Dean and Lawrence Taylor (by muzzling the 527s). More “high road” bullshit.
The “high road” is WHY we keep getting our asses handed to us election after election. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, we have to adopt their tactics in order to win. We can raise the level of discourse as much as we like after we win.
But we must win BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY. Think 49ers-Denver in the Super Bowl. We must CRUSH them. As long as we stay on the defensive, we’ll be seen as losers because, sadly, the majority of the American electorate is a bunch of semi-literate Cletuses whose only requirement of a President is that he/she “Kicks ass.”
When we say, “Oh, we won’t stoop to that level,” those idiots’ beliefs about the Democrats are reinforced. “Hell, Bubba, those pansies won’t even defend themselves, how can they possibly defend US?”
THey’re FAR too ignorant to understand that by voting for the ‘pukes, they’re voting against their own economic interest. It’s documented and re-documented, and if you try to tell them, you might as well be telling a tree.
We have to get down and dirty. Once we win, we can be all bipartisan ‘n shit, but until then, we have to do a jailbreak blitz and hammer them Like Ronnie, Fred and Lawrence would.
Otherwise, get used to saying President Palin. McClusterfuck will die in office, I’d bet on that one.
Let’s say (gasp) you like McCain. Even if you really really love the rascal, odds are he’s going to croak during his first term. Harsh I know. But the guy is older than Reagan was!!!!
Are we voting for placeholder President?
That’s why we obsess with the cardboard figure of Palin. Looks like a candidate. Talks like a candidate. But really is going to just put in photo ops while Rove and Cheney and Rumsfeld continue to pull the strings.
Are we going to put our trust in people who are going to disappear after the election? WTH?
which one? McCain has eight.
I tend to dislike negative ads as a general principal, but it is the only way to get to the low information voters. Which unfortunately includes a substantial portion of the voting public.
Heard something very interesting on NPR yesterday or so. Political scientist did research on how the notion of “death” worked into political advertising had a greater effect in capturing a vote than if high sounding altrusitic notions were used. Stop and think about LBJ’s “Daisy” ad. Death on a global scale and he trounced Goldwater.
Not being computer illiterate hits home to me but I don’t know if it will resinate with late connecting lower information voters. Could they be computer illiterate too. Many of us struggle with adapting to technology on a daily basis. I liked the second one better. Obama hit harder faster tougher.
Ot
hehehehehehehehehe
In a thinly veiled dig at George Bush, Vladimir Putin today suggested that the US President was not in charge of American affairs, saying that it was “the court that makes the king”.
Amid heightened tensions with the US in the wake of the war in Georgia, the Russian Prime Minister insisted that the US leader was a man of honour and integrity, but blamed members of the administration for the sharp deterioration of relations with Russia.
”I still hope we will maintain good relations, but it is the court that makes the king,” he told a group of foreign journalists in an interview at his residence in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.
He nonetheless spoke fondly of his relationship with Mr Bush, saying, only half-jokingly: ”I treat President Bush better than some Americans would”.
I agree. The computer analogy will work with younger voters but for many low information older voters the ad will only make them identify with McCain.
bottom line
computers RUN the world
remember the fear of Y2K
computer literacy in Government is a must
think Katrina
Re-reading my comment, I fear it might sound sexist. I just meant I hope there is something she understands and does well. If it’s being a fabulous multi-tasking PTA mom, she should stick with that.
We’re having a big rain storm today, and it’s messing with my connection for some reason. I don’t know why, but the ad at the top just cracked me up this morning. The image of the big hair McCain in the seersucker suit just screams early 80s panache. *G*
I normally don’t like negative ads. Hwoever, the DSCC is running some in NC against Liddy Dole that are priceless…and proving effective. The humor helps.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLkazmjpcIs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..re=related
One of the initial responses from the Dole campaign was that people would think Dole is 93. WTF? I wouldn’t want to draw too much attention to my age if I were Dole — much less to my continued penchant for plastic surgery.
the only thing i disliked about the first ad was tne e-mail/computer thing. i guess the idea is to emphasize how old the guy is. but people know that. i like it, though. i just prefer the no-change ads that highlight the voted-with-Bush 90% stuff. hugging bush. that stuff. I’d like to hear about how the only change McCain knows about is chnanging his position on drilling; chnging his position on immigration (might not wanna go there); changing his position to favor bush’s tax cuts for rich; changing etc…
it was funny and on point……….. me likey
I don’t agree at all. That is why itis important to get involved with the campaign. All these side line coaches are something else
TORA,TORA,TORA!!!!!!BONZAI!!!!!!
hi Wobbs……..smooch
christy, how’s polling in WVa? I read somewhere it was getting closer? Still out of reach?
Oh, I understand their role and how effective they are, it just goes against what I beleive to engage in them (personally). I do think that they should call a spade a spade and to that point, McCain/Pain liars but outside of that, I don’t like personal attack ads
I used to get that when I lived in the North Bay – it was when AT&T was still the cable-internet provider.
Every time it rained, our connection would drop like a bad case of IBS. I could go out to the cable box (which was a rat’s nest of tangled cables), wiggle the mass of cables and we’d get it back for a little while, but then it’d drop again.
I raised hell to the corporate level and within a month we had a stable connection.
((sadly)) How are you?
Obama needs to get some semanticists on his team. They could craft the message and his speeches so much more effectively than what’s been seen so far.
How about the change from running an honorable campaign
Watching her last night, didn’t you just want to send her to the kitchen?
You mean the one where she gave the beauty-pageant answer to the Bush Doctrine question?
“Well – I think – that President Bush’s policy is… – “
I forget what she finally guessed, but I flashed on Miss South Carolina’s (?) answer where she talked about”uh, the Iraq, and all such like that”….
ok, my quotes are a mess, but I don’t need a beauty-pageant contestant/real-estate sellin’/cheerleader anywhere close to Washington D.C., thank you very much.
I promise you, the campaign would not want me, because I have this bad habit of speaking my mind, even if the powers that be don’t like it. I’d love to be able to tell David Plouffe the same things I say here, but I rather doubt it’d be any different than talking to Cletus about his economic interests.
How would you communicate to the Cleti who keep voting for whomever “kicks ass,” that Obama is a better choice?
I just think a lot of people here, while well-intentioned, haven’t got a clue about how the majority of the electorate thinks.
Agree. Seeming to mock him for computer illiteracy strikes a foul tone with many seniors.
The better way to say the same thing is to point out WHY IT MATTERS.
If McCain had known how to “work the Google” himself, he would have quickly been able to learn all those things that were readily available to all of us, and not been so damn surprised by the revelations in the aftermath of his selection of Palin.
Now carry that same thought forward into a McCain Presidency, and think of all the things he’d be convinced he could get away with, only to have the blogosphere crucify him every time.
McCain live in a world where he believes the “Total Information Awareness” only applies to top secret government programs.
The Internets are kicking his ignorant ass.
I wish Team Obama would make SCARY McCain ads instead of funny ones. The idea of another 4 years of Bush/Cheney should be frightening.
A good start but definitely not enough.
I’m worried.
A yellow dog friend of mine is unhappy with the Obama campaign, because he perceives them as taking the low road. He said, “I would rather lose than win by matching McCain.”
The ends don’t justify the means. On the other hand, McCain and Sarah Plain [sic]? That is the stuff of nightmares. We learned in 2004 that ignoring these sorts of disreputable tactics loses elections. It’s such a fine line Obama has to walk. My friend will vote for Obama, but I want him happy about voting for Obama, not unhappy.
By the way, someone ought to note that McCain’s father and grandfather died at 61 and 70. My prior probability on McCain surviving his full term has gone from 1/6 to 1/12. Parents age-at-death is a pretty good predictor of our own span. Conceded that his mom is still alive, I still downweight things, because of the physical stress of his most famous trait. You know: Noun, Verb, POW.
President Plain [sic]? That’s scary.
BC
you’re right, terrifying thought
With all due respect, i don’t think you have cornered the market on that yourself. that is the whole point of working together. People have different ideas and express them. No one person knows everything but a group gets shit done
I just saw another Obama ad, not one of the two on top here. The images were ALL McCain. The voice over declared his problems.
Maybe it’s just me, but, I think it’s better to show Obama and what he’s doing. Perhaps a lot of people push the mute button during commercials and they might just get McCain into their membrane and not the message.
There’s got to be a way to hit back against McCain without giving him more free air time.
I actually like the premise of the first ad. But a lot of folks don’t use the internet. That is often true of the elderly and disabled as well, especially since the advent of windows, GUI and mouse requires a kind of muscle control and vision, and programs and equipment for persons with disability can be incredibly expensive. It would sound less snotty (and elderly we know are premo voters), if McCain’s unchanginess was about policy and not his knowledge of the computer.
pas mkal merci…”g”
that was for Thatguy @ 40
Excuse me I meant the second ad.
pas mal………sheesh
But it’s not. Go here and read what the Cleti think. If that’s not enough to make your blood run cold, I don’t know what is.
We may think of them as the 25 percenters but in relation to McCain, they are WINNING. You can’t reason with them, their motto is
“Republicans (God) said it, I believe it, that settles it.”
That’s how they think.
If Obama doesn’t totally let loose the 527s, we’re going to get our asses handed to us again. Being a progressive doesn’t mean being passive. We have been FAR TOO PASSIVE FOR FAR TOO LONG.
I better shut up now, because I’m getting angry.
Wait I meant the first ad. 1982
Saw just a brief of the Service Forum. Sure perked up my ears when McCain mentioned being divorced from the things real people have to deal with.
Divorced. Interesting subtext there.

Prairie today: Herr-icane
Wow. I’d say both of those are “right track” messages for the Obama campaign.
I can imagine a series of Obama (and Biden) direct and earnest messages stating what their change means — and contrasting directly with what McCain has failed to do — and Palin doesn’t want to do.
I can also see the DNC running something like this:
That’s an effective campaign of campaign ads.
de nada
School is back in session and it is a tad hectic teaching, phD programs to check out, volunteer work and the campaign…sheesh no time for much else
I still wanna see an Obama ad which quotes the several Republicans who have said on record that the idea of a McCain presidency scares the crap out of *them*….
Citizen Hardin Smith and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Why is the first ad now “unavailable” when it loaded jest two minutes ago? Is the First video even better’n the second?
And by the way, where the hell is Mrs. Clinton and why isn’t she followin’ Palin and McCrazy to the gates of hell or at least to Florida?
Scary — exactly.
Irrelevant. Negative adds work (as Rove has proven repeatedly).
Ignoring negative adds from the evil side and only putting out positive adds talking about important issues is what Kerry tried, what Gore tried…and where did it get us? Where has the Obama campaign essentially going dark during the GNC and for a time afterwards get us? Where has their foolish attempts before to “take the high road” gotten us? It has gotten us into a totally unnecessarily tight race that McInsane can actually win.
Obama (the campaign) MUST get mean and nasty. The actual campaign itself can get nasty in a “dignified” way while letting lose the dogs of 527 war to get REALLY nasty. Obama made a HUGE mistake on shutting off 527s. Now he is scrambling to make up for that mistake (and scrambling to bring in money…they are closely associated). Hopefully it isn’t too late for 527s to chew McInsane and Wolf Killer to shreds and leave them crippled and broken by the side of the road.
looking at him last night……….that cheek (not ass) is growing again imo
I think when Obama attacks to defend our shared American values (like he does on the stump) it comes across as strong and not petty. The second ad does this, the first one does not.
it should be mentioned that not only has Palin scarcely left the country, but until St. Paul she’d scarcely ever been in a Big City! Seriously, if you’ve ever been to Boise or Anchorage you’ll knowthey don’t count.
And this person is supposed to be our Vice President? Bizarre.
http://freewayblogger.blogspot…..oenix.html
pix from my phoenix operative – we need more like him.
Just papered LA yesterday, Bay Area tommorow. after that – the great pacific northwest.
Oh PLEASE. Clinton is doing the EXACT same thing with Obama she did with Ned Lamont in CT. Lip service only. Donno about you but I saw that coming a long time ago.
He is also riddled with cancer that is constantly watched.
Hypertension AND melanoma…plus a host of other unknowns because he has thus far refused to release his medical records.
me too back at the university taking digital media courses with 19 and 20 year olds…..oy no time either, but i post to stay sane
I’m not debating that. if you go back and read, I said I personally don’t like them but I know they work and their unfortunate place in politics
No idea. I haven’t seen any polling that I’d call based on a reliable sample from here in a while. I’d say the campaigns are likely doing internals, but they aren’t sharing them with me. McCain’s stock has been falling here because he hasn’t worn well — but Hillary was really the big candidate here for the Dem primary — she worked her ass off on the campaign trail here, and the Obama team hasn’t put much resources in here as yet.
So it’s really tough to tell. That said, we do have a huge union push in terms of GOTV effors and such — at least, we usually do. But I don’t know how that will translate in terms of really bringing home the votes.
Just anecdotally, some former neighbors of mine who have been staunch supporters of Bush and are very evangelical told me the ohter day they are voting for Obama. The recited the “eight is enough” line from the convention and said the gas prices and rising grocery prices are killing them, and that McCain would mean more of the same. Those kitchen table issues should be huge here — guess we’ll see.
That’s an excellent point. McCain is using a new mocking brutally negative ad appealing to the lizard brain. It’s good to laugh at the Republicans but they need to be taken very seriously which is frightening.
THANK YOU!!!!
One person here gets it. I’d rather win than have Palin as President. I don’t care how we win, as long as we win.
i love you,but you know that”g”
I think the calculation is that sending Hillary will up-status Palin. But I disagree with that.
I don’t have that much time to post anymore and it’s probably good given all the hand wringing. but I think of you all *g*
Ditto!
egggselent!
I have more respect for Hillary (even though I did not agree with some of her political positions) than to have her attack Palin. She is better suited to go after McCain and the republicans in general
You didn’t answer my question – how would you convince the Cleti a guy who “kicks ass” might not be the correct choice in the voting booth, when they are pre-disposed to vote for someone who “kicks ass”?
Hillary is uniquely disposed to destroy the use of her own words during the primaries against Obama by McPalin.
She can also talk about issues of particular interest to women and attack Palin on the same issues without any fear of “sexism” being tossed out there.
i agree
Isn’t the mere presence of Mrs. Palin on the R ticket tearing up the older, and the Jewish, votes in Florida?
thanks. i just can’t keep track of ‘em all here.
she can go after both of them actually
because both are so obviously vacuous
I gotta give Charlie Gibson a big hat tip for my new phrase: “I got lost in a blizzard of words”
bwahahahaha! blizzard, get it? she basically barfed in his lap and he wiped up and got back to the question. luv it.
Sending out positive energy to all the pups in ike’s path. Stay safe and free from harm’s way.
OT – Taking a break from bringing stuff in from outside the house. Hurricane’s supposed to bring Austin 25 – 35 mph winds by tomorrow. Evacuees have been arriving to the shelters and to the hotels.
I spent a lot of time volunteering at our convention center with the refugees from Katrina – horrible stories of what they went through before they got here. Some stayed and I helped them settle into apartments, get furnishings, etc.
This time they’ve got a different system and my previous application to volunteer is dead. I filled out another one and the background check info they wanted and now wait for the background check to be completed and for them to call and give me an assignment.
I’m deeply disturbed that we’re not providing cots and bedding to the people who are arriving in busses from the coast. They’re the ones with no cars. It feels like a deep lack of respect to me. Yes, they are safe and are getting food. During Katrina, there were cots for everyone.
ok i love all you patriots to pieces
keep slamming!……………bbl
Wasn’t that an awesome phrase? Nice way to say, “Wtf?”
this is a great point some radio folks made today. Basically, we don’t have to rely on other people’s opinions or interpretations, we don’t have to read articles about the economy. We know from just living.
What? The rest of us are Chopped Liver?
My comment on the 3rd O ad I’ve watched was not hand wringing, but there’s been no response.
No one here likes chopped liver? Ha.
I like the “out of touch” meme and not just because I’m heavily biased (but it helps).
The resent rise in McCain’s polling numbers have been almost exclusively Palin related.
Coming out of the DNC, Obama’s strongest messages in my opinion were: “Enough” and “It’s not that he doesn’t care, he just doesn’t get it.”
With Palin going through a very public display, there is now a glaring opportunity to turn the narrative to “Nope, he doesn’t get it and look, she never will!”
How did McShame vote on that legislation that provided meds for seniors and that prohibited negotiating w/ the pharmas?
i saw some poll (forget which) that had WV getting closer. Figured the BO/JB campaign didn’t think so because nobody’s going there (that i know of). we shall see. good news about the former neighbors, though.
GREAT AD
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..ablog.com/
My updated Palin file:
1. Troopergate/ currently ducking a deposition under oath / in turn 7 of her aides cancelled their depositions
2. Replaced the guy she fired in troopergate with someone with a sexual harassment complaint who lasted 10 days
3. Todd’s Alaska Independence Party connections, and her own participation
4. Used a state site to promote mining interests over clean water.
5. Bridge to nowhere: being for it before she was against it
6. For earmarks before she was against them
7. Pumping money into a bankrupt Alaska dairy and then selling it off to cronies
8. Firing employees as mayor over loyalty issues
9. Asserting the right to ban books from the library and attempts to fire the librarian
10. Involved in the 527 for Ted Stevens
11. Her daughter’s pregnancy
12. Her own still dubious pregnancy/flying 3000 miles after her water broke
13. Her expensive ($25 million) screwup with building a rec center in Wasilla as mayor on land the city did not have clear title to
14. Anti-choice
15. Anti-gay marriage
16. Pro-abstinence only (Tell that one to Bristol)
17. Pro-gun
18. Anti-environment: Spent $400,000 in 2007 to promote the aerial hunting of wolves and bears. Has fought designating polar bears as endangered due to diminishing sea ice from which they hunt.
19. Pro-drilling
20. Global warming denier
21. Creationist/wants it taught in schools
22. Thought the Pledge of Allegiance dates to the founding of the country (it was penned in 1892 and “under God” was added in 1954)
23. Thinks the End Times will occur in her lifetime
24. Attends a church with an anti-Semitic, anti-Islamic pastor
25. Charged the state nearly $17,000 in per diem travel expenses when she was living at home
26. Implied she sold the state plane on ebay but it, in fact, failed to sell there, and later elsewhere was sold at a loss
27. Charged the state to fly her daughter Willow to Juneau to tour the church where they worshipped when they were in town; charged the state for a $707 hotel room in New York for 3 days for daughter Bristol; charged the state for the family to watch the beginning of the Iditarod dog sled race and the Iron Dog snowmobile race whichhusband Todd won; in all her husband racked up $19,000 in state paid travel expenses, and her children Piper, 7, nearly $11,000, Willow, 14, around $6,000 and Bristol, 17, about $3,400
28. While mayor, Wasilla was the only city in Alaska which billed ($300-$1,200) rape victims and their insurance companies for rape kits and forensic examinations
29. Named Deborah Richter her campaign manager for governor to head a division which distributes dividends of Alaska’s oil royalties to its citizens. Richter had only one year of college and was a business partner of Palin in a land investment. Palin fired one of her aides John Bitney for having an affair with Richter during her (Richter’s) divorce
30. Thinks that Saddam Hussein worked with al Qaeda to attack America on 9/11
31. Favors Georgia’s admittance to NATO and military action against Russia if it crossed Georgia’s frontiers again
LOL! I also appreciated CG’s calm quiet strainingtobepatient tone when he delivered his questions. I recall him being much more perky and bubbly himself. It was a nice counterpoint to her searing beam of mania.
I actually thought of the Stephen Colbert Better Know a Candidate series in the way that it was executed. Which made me laugh even more. Charlie/Stephen totally deadpan while someone carries on with their absurd rhetoric.
They need to hit McCains’ precieved strength.
His alleged military gamesmanship.
A few ads with bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran an ‘there will be more wars my friends’.
We don’t need another warmonger.

There are lots of local campaign office grand openings happening this weekend and the ones that are open would love to see your smiling dem faces. Go check out O’s website for openings OR check your local dem party chapter
Peace, love and light
CHS:
The doctrine is actually about preventive war, not preemptive.
1,763 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Hardin Smith and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Both ads are a great start, now we nee more with Obama and Biden lokkin’ right at the camera and comparin and contrastin point by point on the economy, the economy, the proximity to Bush, the ties to corpoate lobbyists, the ties to corporate oil through Palin… and honesty! Gotta attack both the weaknesses and the strengths. These two are a great start but it’s time to take the gloves off…and where is the ad that says McCrazy wants ta stay in Iraq for 100 years? Let’s not ferget about the kidz hunkered down in the sand jest tryin ta keep each other alive until we get ‘em outta there!
In addition, I think a series of ads with Joe Biden sayin he’s runnin’ for Vice President and comparin’ his chops ta Palin’s would take the Bimbo from Juneu down…and yes I said “Bimbo” ‘cuz she’s ignorant and is usin her gender and her looks to get a job she is unqualified for.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, FEAR IS JEST A WORD!!
Planned Parenthood will turn off many fundies and I would add to the ad that McShame must be going after the child sexual predator vote.
It was terrible to watch. He looked very uncomfortable. But you have to give her credit for working those talking points in even when the question was not remotely related to it.
Sarah Palin, conservative affirmative action in action.
-G
Hugh, you rock dood.
MSNBC put a snippet of McCain’s appearance on the The View up. I didn’t catch it except that McCain was pushing his reformer nonsense including the bridge!!!! on Baba and she wasn’t having it. I’ll have to keep an eye out for the clip.
Over at Think Progress, a commenter suggested dusting off the old (and VERY effective) political add showing a little girl in a field of daisies and then a bright flash and nuclear mushroom cloud. It could fade to McCain/Palin and their warmongering over Russia.
31 and thinks that Russia invaded georgia without provocation
My two cents:
I like Obama directly presenting the text of the ad. I think I am not alone in finding the tag line “I’m X and I approve this message” damaging to the message.
I would like to see an ad where Obama calls McCain and Palin “liars” for their two most egregious lies, the bridge and taxes. That would break with tradition, and taboo, and get a lot of attention. Maybe even an ad that uses the word “perverse” in refuting the sex-ed slander.
I also want this word applied to McCain: “Unfit”. It encompasses several things:
1. Age
2. Temperament and Judgment
3. Ethics
Demi, you’re right.
I meant that PraedorAtrebates understands we cannot take the “high road” and win. It seems there are a lot of people in the progressive ranks who’d rather lose than fight dirty.
When we don’t fight dirty, we lose.
The impression that I got from the interview was that she thought that Goergia was already a member of NATO and that we should go to war with russia to protect Georgia’s territorial integrity.
Case in point. Obama should not offend senior citizens in order to appeal to the youth vote, by coming off as a young whippersnapper. There’s too much ageism subtext in the first ad. Senior citizens are the most reliable voters. I think Obama by being young and charismatic has their vote. Now I think he should turn to the issues that affect senior citizens. And we know the legions of BS the Chimp administration has piled onto them. They get pissed over that. I think it’s a huge reason Rethug apparatchnik Nancy Johnson (BigPharma-CT) was defeated by Chris Murphy (CT), at least those were reasons I heard cited: medicare D, price of pharmaceuticals, you name it. Murphy focused on those weaknesses of Nancy Johnson. And proving McSame acted as a Rethug apparatchnik on issues affecting senior citizens, as opposed to Maverick shouldn’t be difficult. The first ad works against Obama. He must correct this and start talking about senior issues in a way that shows his administration will be more supportive, otherwise seniors might think or assume an “elderly” preznit will be more supportive.
Running . . . Late . . .Now.
I like all of this. It’s time to take the gloves off. I think we have to say – right out in the open, Sarah Palin is STUPID (because she is) and John McCain is CRAZY (because he is). Both are liars. That should be just put right out there.
Woo hoo Hugh. can’t wait to read it.
Some tool from McClatchy excusing Palin for that very moment in the interview, giving her a pass for not knowing what the Bush Doctrine is. And also hey, it matters more than she supports preemptive war. Very nonchalant.
I guess this is the republic hour. Some other person raving about babies on stage. whoohoo. we love babies and preemptive war!
Hillary ws just in the neighborhood the other day. raised some $$$, too. we have FL to ourselves. McCain and his cancer have to stay out of the sun. Cindy and her albino ass have to stay out of the sun. and palin will melt. FL is going from tied to advantage McSame and back and forth. But then there’s always:

And the ballots are looney. who knows what’s gonna happen here.
New Blue Texan upstairs!
McCain: Nevermind About That Whole Radical Islamic Extremism Thing
After last night’s interview, I think we wouldn’t only get Bush’s economic policy and Cheney’s foreign policy, we’d also get to see President Dan Quayle.
Like tbogg, I thought she was like miss South Carolina, hitting the talking points, but missing out on facts, logic and rational connection to the subject matter altogether.
I thought Charles Gibson did a devastating low-key interview. I got the impression that it was an effort to maintain his composure. Does anyone else think so?
The Obama campaign hasn’t asked her to do so as yet. It’s his campaign, not hers, to run — and as a surrogate, you go where they want you to go and say what they want you to say. He just had a meeting with Bill Clinton in Harlem yesterday, so I would imagine they’ll be using both of them in the home stretch as they think best. Jane had a post on this just the other day…
McCain/Palin: Bombs for Babies.
McSame & Cindy are going to Rachel ray’s show? Yum-o. While they’re in NY and dropping in on people named Rachel maybe………. nah.
But is he doing TV because he’s fraidy-scared to campaign without Ms. Moosehunter?
Hillary made a few appearances in central florioda on Monday. talked to union people (and they ain’t easy to find here) gave a speech and raised some money and went to tampa. she’ll be back i’m sure. bill will be in the game, too. i’m sure.
I like the second ad better, it is straightforward. Expect that the other ad might be better is many areas of the country, depending on the local demographics.
Yeah, I’d bet she and Bill both will be deployed where they can best be used to advantage with staunch supporters and folks who need the ego boo shove to the polls. They are both quite good on the campaign trail — it was a mistake of Gore’s not to use them, so I’m glad to see whatever miscommunication was ongoing in the early stages after the primary is done and over with — it’s a good thing for everyone.
There were a lot of rumor floating around — most of them utterly unsubstantiated and likely specious and designed to boost various reputations outside of the candidates themselves on both sides of the primary — but the bottom line was that the communication was crap between the top levels, and in all honesty from what I’ve heard a lot of the blame on that goes to Obama’s team for essentially ignoring a couple of outstretched hands from higher level folks on the Clinton team. Which, after a hard fought primary and the level of exhaustion both sides had at that point, is to be expected, I think — but it was detrimental to hitting the ground running out of the gate.
In any case, in this it’s likely my granny’s old saying of “least said, soonest mended” is the best course of action. And if the Obamas and Clintons are at a bygones place (and if Hillary and Michelle’s really good interaction in Denver is any indication, they are), then who are any of us to keep pushing the BS?
Maybe Cindy can pilfer some of her recipes and put them up on the McCain campaign website like she did with the other Food Network ones a while back. *G*
Ah, but that was prior to the ‘Great Dumbing-Down’, and the ‘vision’ which soundly defeated Goldwater, is now more likely to be seen as evidence of courage, resolve, moral strength and proof that a person possessing such
‘transcedent’ views is, indeed, an agent of Gawd Almighty.
Where, once upon a time, reasonable and rational folks could figure or imagine far enough into the future to consider ‘consequence’, our present collective ‘location’ (culturally speaking) on the ‘Thought-Chain’ regards ‘consequence’ as something that ALWAYS happens to someone else.
The mere notion that bombs, for example’ might fall on American ’soil’ is not merely unthinkable but also beyond the pale. Consider what such a thing would do to our notion of ‘fairness’?
It wouldn’t be ‘fair’, neither would it be ‘convenient’, and what would it do to ‘business as usual’?
Let us face the truth.
America is a fat, bloated, slob of a nation (the last ‘Great Empire’), which has just had its pockets picked, its legal system made into a mockery, its ‘principles’ pillaged, and its blood spilled all over the place, yet, the nation has, apparently, relished the adventure, thinking it happened to some other country, is barely wise enough to ‘know’ it is the greatest nation that ever wasn’t, and that whatever ‘Merkah’ wants, ‘Merkah’ gets … and, if there is too much resistance to ‘Merkah’ having her way … she’ll just simply go nu-cu-lar.
As all GOOD ‘Merkans’ are going to Heaven, where heavenly McMansions await, and, presumably, in Heaven, ‘Merkans’ can just keep on acting the same old way, why would the ‘average’ ‘Merkan’ not want Palin’s finger on THE BUTTON?
Maybe earth was ‘made’ for all of humankind, but Heaven is reserved for ‘Merkans’ of the right sort.
So it kindda doesn’t matter what happenes here, on Earth, any longer, when all these wonderful, righteous, folk is all giddy ’bout gettin’ ‘there’. (In their lifetime. Hmmmm, I thought ya had to be daid to get ‘in’ but must be ‘they’ have figured out how to ‘take it with them’: “Get yore heavenly grubsteak in order, time’s awasting’, get your off-planet accounts in order and invest in YOUR personal future by buying bombs …”)
Ain’t nothin’ like havin’ religious zealots and party-hardy boys at the helm when an Empire, as its sun sets, goes amok.
I mean, what’s the alterenative?
Thoughtful, nuanced, more or less ‘reasonable’ human beings in charge?
No way!!!
‘Merkah’, today, it appears would rather learn the ‘hard’ way or NOT AT ALL.
Happy daze are here again …
that’s right. forgot about that. lol.
re:obama & clinton — not too late for this, is it? i don’t think. i think jane raised te point uyesterday that this usually gets done after the primary. but the primary went late and was very hard fought. everybody would have l;iked the make-up to have been sooner but I don’t know if it ws realistic to exoect that. it’s done (i think. hope). better late than never, i guess.
I agree totally. The McCain campaign is Id driven. Myth, images, and narratives are powerful tools in communication. Words, language, and reason aren’t enough and it looks like the latter is what the Obama campaign and the Democrats rely on. bagnewsnotes.typepad.com is a terrific site that sheds light on the politics of images. Fascinating.
LUV Bagnewsnotes. Excellent site — worth serious perusal if you haven’t gone there yet. I’ll wholeheartedly second that rec…
No ones mentioned why McSame showed up yesterday at the WTC with his wife. No one else seemed to need a handler/walker along with them.
Regarding mentioning/not mentioning lies as well as fitness. How about phrasing it along lines of ‘fitness’ (mentally and physically) and not able to ‘handle the truth’.
The information you have gotten so far is on the mark, but the question becomes how do you get this to the OBAMA CAMPAIGN and put it in an AD. At the same time on a continous basis continue to slack Mccain Palin again and again and not let up. Obama can win this election, but not by being a nice guy. In other words he must float like a butterfly and sting like bee period.
