- dodges the question about Palin’s national security credentials by awkwardly segueing into the economy
- denies he ever said that Islamic extremism was the biggest challenge facing the US (!!!)
- then awkwardly segues to energy after said denial
- then claims Palin knows more about energy than "probably anyone in the United States of America"
Let’s leave aside the last one — it’s too laughable.
It’s the second whopper that really demands scrutiny here. McSame has been saying for 7 years that defeating radical Islam is the greatest challenge of the 21st century and it’s the greatest evil in the history of evil. Some examples here, here, here and here.
Who’s he kidding with this crap?
In picking Palin, he not only gave up the ability to attack Obama on experience and national security — he has ditched his entire reason for running for president. I’ve never seen anything like it.
No wonder McSame’s afraid to do interviews and press conferences.

denies he ever said that Islamic extremism was the biggest challenge facing the US (!!!)
McCrazy doesn’t know about computers – and it seems to just keep slipping his mind that there’s this new thing – *Videotape* !
Way to keep looking to the future, JohnnyBoy….
He must have forgot that he said it. He needs some ginko and some mind games to stimulate the ole gray matter
You cannot question John McCain.
He is a POW and a Man of Honor (TM).
Just saw a clip of McInsane on The View (airs here in an hour) He didn’t do so well.
colour me not-so-surprised
Bring on the debates.
watching MSNBC – the only clip of Mrs. Palin’s interview they show is the one where she obviously doesn’t know what “The Bush Doctrine” is…
McClatchy poll shows 60% think Biden is qualified – 48% (!?) think that Da Guv is qualified.
Lord, there’s a lot of dim bulbs out there….
OT: via TPM
wow. words fail me.
He
iswas a POW and a Man of Honor (TM).A somewhat important edit, imo.
What about this interesting point that might undercut the “maverick” campaign? If you are truly a leader, why do you have to take on your own party? Wouldn’t a better tactic be to bring your party to your position? I suggest that Obama has disagreed with his party, and showed that by voting contray to the official postion on a number of issues, but rather than publicly “taking them on” he chose to make changes internally to bring his party to his position. As time as repeatedly shown, A leader does not take on his own party, he/she leads it to the best possible position.
If she holds up beyond that, she could be a transformative woman in American history. If not, we will all be
disappointedtotally fucked. My computer seems to be stuck on “edit” mode – sorry.
No need to apologize for your computer as that is my sentiments exactly. “Disaapointed” does not begin to sum up where we would be.
He
iswas a POWand a Man of Honor (TM).I don’t believe there is any evidence of the latter.
Let’s leave aside the last one — it’s too laughable.
Let’s not.
That statement, by itself, should run in a commercial right after a bullet point summary of all the issues we face re: energy in this country.
Then it should close with the line “And he wants to be President of the United States.”
confident? oh yeah. she’ll eat McCain’s lunch.
And with those qualities what’s she so afraid of vis a vis the press, hmmmmm?
She was talking to charlie like he was a schoolboy in detention. What. The. Hell.
I hope Obama reminds him that he’s, you know, changed his entire candidacy based on his Veep pick.
Nicely put.
After the interview last night, mr wobbs said he was putting in a request for a ’spousal’ visa for me just in case for whatever reason McCain wins
I don’t believe there is any evidence of the latter.
true, dat.
This is exactly the persona that needs dismantling. Even my hubby buys into this. “hey, you can’t take the POW thing away from him, that’s real”. OK. That’s fine.
What I can do is point out his record on how he treats his fellow POWS and veterans. THAT is totally fair game.
I wish I was hearing more about that from everyone.
McCain–Palin: Putting the FU in FUBAR every day!
They took Kerry’s military service away from him.
Further,
Why not say, Ok, even though you voted consistently with the republican party(90% vote rate, I will take you at your word and say that you are a “maverick.” Aren’t you then admitting when you call yourself a maverick that your party is wrong, and by failing to change your parties positions you are a failure as a “leader.”
I’ve casually mentioned that it is frustrating to have all the family stuff out there and too bad that the National Enquirer was going to publish information about her affairs(s) and her son’s Cocaine/Oxycontin abuse, but I really can’t figure out for the life of me why she flew from Dallas to Seattle and then on to Alaska after her water broke, an 18-hour trip. Or to a 71-year old woman, mention that McCain had to have a piece of paper in his hand to remember Sarah Palin’s name when he introduced her as his VP running mate, kindly adding that unlike him, the 71-year old woman doesn’t seem to have a memory problem.
At no point, unless asked, do I say whom I’m voting for. I live in a very conservative part of Washington, so I just want the listener to stop and think about who Sarah Palin, and the guy that selected her, actually are.
Bombers and Babies for McCain/Palin
Why does Barack and Michelle Obama hate America?
They must, because she was not at the 9/11 memorial services in NYC yda and
PillsCindy was.then claims Palin knows more about energy than “probably anyone in the United States of America”
it’s too laughable.
Yeah – does she know how to trade oil for drugs or arms, or to finance black ops, for example…?
I know. And my hubby is a dem and will vote for Obama. But he still has the 2000 maverick image in his head. He speeds past the campaign news because he already knows who he is voting for. Which is okay with me because I just get riled up. Gotta think of marital harmony :]
I saw Bob Schieffer as part of a panel on Charlie Rose last night. Despite having the opportunity to observe McCain all this time, he apparently still has respect and admiration for him… He said MAYBE Obama wasn’t referring to Palin with his pig comment, but he couldn’t tell for certain. Time to mosey on down the retirement trail, Bob.
And the way he rolled over on torture.
McCain’s public statements do not match votes.
He may well have walked the talk in the 70’s but not no more.
Bush and Rove took McCain’s military service away from him. IOIYAR, even if the target was a POW and is a current member of your own party.
That is an awesome strategy. It really isn’t about her, so much as it is about McCain’s decision to pick her. It speaks volumes about his decision making process and about hers that she accepted (per her interview with Charlie) so quickly without thinking twice (talking it over with family, etc)
I think every ad should end with “McShame who do you think your kidding this is BO and I approve this ad”
McCain, near the bottom of his military class, crashed expensive Navy jets on 3 occasions due to incompetence and/or irresponsible hot-dogging (endangering people’s lives on the ground), gets shot down over N. Vietnam while setting up to bomb civilians, signs a confession as a POW after being exposed to mere “enhanced interrogation tactics” (NOT torture, by his own admission now).
I see no honor in this creature at all. Being a POW doesn’t make one a hero (sorry, that is a fact). Being shot down doesn’t make one a hero. Crashing 3 planes due to incompetence/hotdogging doesn’t make you a hero. Lying and lying and lying throughout your political career isn’t heroic. Divorcing your first wife for a younger (and richer) version in order to get on the gravy train AND improve his personal political prospects isn’t heroic.
There is nothing honorable or heroic in ANY part of McInsane’s past.
Who is he kidding? Low information “independent” voters who may well decide the election. This election is not going to be decided by intellectuals and the educated but rather the rednecks and the proudly ignorant.
I kept thinking during the interview of all the people who are going to love Palin’s totally unprofessional manner of speaking (particularly her use of the phrase “gonna” and “gotta). It’s “have a beer with” syndrome all over again. Also, they probably didn’t like it when Gibson (surprisingly) called her out a few times, like when he told her he needed to clarify because he got lost in a “blizzard” of words. Nice code for “snow job of unresponsive soundbites.”
For the folks that know I really, really, really don’t like George W. Bush, I tell them, if given only two people to vote for and one is GWB, the other is John McCain, I would choose GWB. That causes them to stop, look at me for quite awhile, and then say “Wow”. The bad thing, is I really mean it.
You DO have a right to abstain.
The poor judgment shown by McCain should be the focal point, however it is about Palin to the extent that the possibility of her becoming president is a legitimate cause for concern.
Which speaks to McCain’s decision to put her in that position
Too priceless. And straight from John McBush himself:
However, in an October 2007 primary debate, McCain himself denigrated mayors and governors, saying they would need too much “on-the-job training”:
We would be so totally f*cked if that came to pass, I would drive the 70 miles up the road to Canada and figure out a way to stay there.
That would certainly give me pause if I heard a dem say that. Wonderful segway to talk about why McCain is really worse than shrub
Many of the low information voters were going to sit this one out until he named Palin. Changes the mathematical underpinnings to the 50-state strategy, perhaps?
All this stuff…where are the ads? unleash a few 527s please!
Many of the low information voters
Like people who read The National Enquirer?
Yeah, it’s really all inextricably linked.
McCain chose Palin to help him get elected. I don’t believe for a moment that he intends to let her participate in policy decisions. The result is that if she were to assume the presidency three years from now, she will be no more qualified than she is today.
I tell them, if given only two people to vote for and one is GWB, the other is John McCain, I would choose GWB.
That’s excellent.
Did anyone mention who has school age children?
Great find on that clip. That should be a part of at least one Obama ad.
That thought is why mr made the inquiry to the British consulate today. She has him scared shitless.
that was for ratfood @ 49
I mean. Unreal.
this situation with the ME reporter. was it recent? i don’t think he’s been there in a while. i only ask because i’m wondering if this shoukld be reported to the BrainWatch.
Right, some states that appeared winnable may be out of reach, barring anything unforeseen which causes the base to become disenfranchised (again). I’m not convinced Palin being forced to exit would accomplish that, since they would blame all the wrong people.
That only goes to prove my point.
If they really loved America, they would’ve taken them out of school for the day and brought them along.
Where are their priorities?
I was speaking with the 71-year old woman in a public place yesterday, when I made the comment about McCain and the piece of paper. Someone else heard the end of the conversation and her comment implied she hadn’t made up her mind. I tell folks that I am concerned about Obama’s experience level and stick-to-it-iveness, but looking at a choice between Obama and a man that has an anger and vindictiveness problem, I will vote without hesitation for Obama. They all know I served 21-years in the Air Force and most of that was overseas.
Before folks get too worried about the polls, my husband voted for Bush twice, mostly because we have a logging business. He not only is going to vote for Obama, but actually took the time to tell his brother, our business partner, that fact and why he couldn’t vote for McCain. Trust me, if McCain has my husband speaking out on politics, Obama has a real good chance of winning.
I thought it was a phone in on the radio
I know how he feels.
Why did a mailing from the mcSham circus – delivered to me Mon – purporting to be a form for voting by mail… Why did that mailing come with photos of 4 “bad men” on the outside? Osama. Kim Jong Il. Iran’s president (can’t spell his name). Chavez.
Ok, if terrorism is off the table… why send out such mailings?
mcSham campaign has two tactics:
1. Lie
2. Cry wolf.
Keep this simple formula in mind. And you will no longer be bamboozled by their tactics.
What happened to HRC’s old line – if you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen
This is GREAT!!!! Thuis HAS to get around. just last night at Columbia he said about 10 times “I love mayors.” I thought there’d be something like this out there because Romney & Ghouliani both ran on their “executive experience.”
The only surprise is that they didn’t include a picture of Obama in that lineup.
Maybe you won’t, and I’m SURE *I* won’t…
But these people sure as shit will.
When did Americans start voting for the “Don’t pick on me, I’m wounded and/or inexperienced” ticket?
I think that’s why they have kept her sequestered from the media. They’ll probably be even more inclined to do so after the feeble showing in her first interview. I can’t help but wonder if Palin could answer the question, “What was the Cuban Missile Crisis?” If not, she would at least be qualified to serve as White House Press Secretary.
I really think that line belongs to Truman…he certainly wouldn’t mind HRC using it.
Putin likes Bush, but hates the Bush shadow government.
Putin and Palin will get along just fine.
What’s scary, and maddening, she may not know, but she would talk and “answer” anyway. Grrrrrr.
ATAVIYAR – all traits are virtues if you are Republican
McCain is an empty suit in a long line of Republican empty suits: Reagan, Dubya, McCain. Yes, they lie and don’t know what they are talking about but two of them ended up President for two terms anyway and it is perfectly conceivable that McCain will win the current election. They may be idiots and lie but given past history this is no bar to becoming President.
More McSame creating his own reality on the View this morning.
http://thinkprogress.org/2008/…..alin-view/
Gibson: “What was the Cuban Missile Crisis?”
Palin: “In what respect?”
I have no idea. It is scary and sad
In a McCain Administration, a dead McCain or a live Palin are equally qualified to run things because in reality everything will be run by the large collection of lobbyists that surround McCain today.

I would like to use this forum to hereby announce I am an expert on Kentucky.
Kentucky borders Ohio to the south.
I always felt I knew that commonwealth well (as an expert, I know it’s not a state), but since I’ve learned proximity (Alaska-Russia) can cause expertness, that’s sealed the deal.
In addition, when in college in Cincinnati we went there often to get liquor (it was cheaper).
My mother was also born there.
I’ve flown into Kentucky several times, as the Greater Cincy Airport is also located there.
Given all of the above, I probably am more of an expert on Ky than Palin is re: Russia.
I’ve actually been to Kentucky.
o/t per TPM
disgraceful.
They’re kind of like the Borg, except less likable.
527s now please!
LOL
Then I call Latin america. I only form one of the countries but I have flown over or can see the others from land
See how experty you now feel? They’ve done all of us a great favor by redefining “expert”.
I’m feeling awful damn experty about Canada now, as well.
It’s just across the lake, and between Niagara Falls and Toronto my wife and I have probably been there 40 times!
re: McSame on “The View” today.
I just had to bring this review of his performance over from a comment at TP:
Hilarious!
Considering that the latest poll shows that, incredibly, people rate McCain’s fopo over Obama’s even though McCain backed invading Iraq, I think that Sully is giving us a good theme to address:
http://andrewsullivan.theatlan…..first.html
Obama leads, Bush and McCain follow his lead. Of course they grumble at first, but later they quietly follow his lead. His judgement trumps their “experience”.
One method for pinning down McCain on issues would be to have a debate format that wasn’t determined by the two major parties.
In 1960, John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon faced each other in front of television cameras to debate, for the first time, issues important to voters. The outcome may have been determined more by Nixon’s five o’clock shadow and awkward, nervous demeanor than by the content of the debates. The medium’s message was that Nixon had the appearance of a used car salesman and Kennedy that of a charming, witty and trustworthy candidate.
Despite the manipulative, ostensibly superficial character of the medium, debates potentially can serve as the most probative, revealing, heuristic and discursive mechanism to distinguish the leaders from each other in terms of policies and leadership qualities. Shallow and manipulative paid advertising and itinerant, ubiquitous handshaking are irredeemably incapable of creating well-informed voters.
Unfortunately, the debates fail to meet the above expectations for a number of reasons but one, in particular, violates the basic principles of a fair, equitable and efficacious election process by excluding legitimate leadership candidates from the debates thus denying them visibility and credibility.
In very simple terms, the Democrats and Republicans exercise complete control over the debates including place, timing, participation, format, questioners and frequently the questions to be posed to the candidates. There is something fundamentally undemocratic about the two leading parties, both financed by corporate money, making critical decisions about the elections that will clearly serve their own interests.
The League of Women Voters organized and sponsored the debates from 1976 to 1984 until the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD), funded by tax-deductible corporate contributions, was created in 1987 by the Republican and Democratic Parties to capture control of election debates to protect their own interests. Heading the CPD were the former heads of the Republican and Democratic Parties, Frank Fahrenkopf and Paul Kirk respectively. Since then, the two parties have drafted a secret Memorandum of Understanding for each election which now governs all aspects of the debates but can not be scrutinized by the voters.
On October 2, 1988, the League of Women Voters refused to accept the Memorandum of Understanding, withdrawing their sponsorship of the debates warning that “The demands of the two campaign organizations would perpetrate a fraud on the American voter.”
There are at least three presidential candidates from parties other than the two major parties including Cynthia McKinney of the Green Party, Ralph Nader an independent, and Bob Barr, a Libertarian. Who you say? Exactly the point in that third party candidates are trapped in a Catch-22 where they are unknown and lack credibility because they are excluded from corporate media coverage, from paid advertising due to insufficient funds, and from participation in the debates. They are excluded from the debates because the CPD created a criterion whereby parties need 15% in national polls to participate.
The criterion is flagrantly fraudulent and its only purpose is to exclude third party candidates from appearing on stage for the debates who might pose a threat to the entitled major party candidates. For example, neither Dole nor Clinton wanted to invite Ross Perot to participate in the debates in 1996. Clinton demanded his exclusion because he enjoyed a 20% lead in the polls and didn’t want anyone to change the dynamic of the race. Dole didn’t want to improve Perrot’s chances of winning more votes as it would probably be at his expense. The CPD naturally excluded him notwithstanding that he had won 19% of the popular vote in the 1992 election, received $29 million in federal funds and 75% of eligible voters polled wanted him to participate in the debates.
The CPD’s criterion is rife with flaws and exposes its real intent. A criterion based on polling results of an arbitrary 15% of how people might vote at a particular point in time in the upcoming election is inferior to a criterion based on whether they want a particular candidate to be invited to the debates. The fact that 75% of eligible voters wanted Perot to be involved in the debates is considerably more significant than a poll that reflects the lack of exposure of that candidate. The voters should decide who participates in the debates, not the leaders of the two major parties.
Another fair and equitable criterion would be to allow any candidate to participate in the debates who is registered in a sufficient number of states where the electoral total is above the minimum number of votes to win the election. This criterion will ensure that only serious candidates who have at least the potential to win the presidential race will be invited to the debates.
Third party candidates who have a legitimate claim to be included in the debates are being denied the opportunity based on political reasons rather than on sound democratic principles. These candidates’ contribution would be to broaden the voter’s understanding on a number of issues and to present a different analysis of American society. Voters are not only entitled to hear all points of views from serious candidates but will be incapable of making an intelligent, informed choice inside the polling booth without their input. Apparently the Democrats and Republicans are afraid that the voters may become “to-well” informed.

Shades of Dana Perino.
Of course, Johnny Boy hasn’t been in Congress very much this year…so he likely didn’t hear that Palin had requested nearly $200 million in earmarks. “It must have happened on a day I was gone.”
It’s really appears that McCain doesn’t remember what his own positions are and forgets basic facts, at least at times. He then confabulates to fill in the gaps, as cognitively impaired people often do. There have been too many incidents like this for them to be considered ordinary slips. Of course, he lies too. It’s scary.
