If you can find the post-mortem interviews by Bill Richardson and Rudy Guliani that ran on the Early Show Friday Sept. 12, you might find them instructive. It seems like Maggie Rodriguez is trying her best to derail any criticism by Richardson of Gov. Palin and, of course, Guliani just lies out of his blowhole. The early show has been peddling the lipstick story for two days and apparently they want to do as little as possible to criticize Palin again today.
Good morning, BT. If Rove is wrong, do we know who these people are that led to a McCain surge in the poles after his appointment of Palin? Somehow we need to try and get through to them. If Georgia had been admitted to NATO, and Palin were in charge, we would be at war with Russia now.
If I remember, you’re in the Austin area. Looks like you’ve got a few days of heavy rain and wind. I’m just north of Dallas and it looks like Saturday and Sunday will be that way for us.
Obama to throw more elbows?
Republicans to say all day long: “He’s desperate. What happened to the ‘new politics’? Just another politician.”
America has apparently marched on without me. Somewhere along the way, I was supposed to leave my mind behind – and march on without one.
National Farce is an understatement to describe the Republican side in 2008. Words fail – as my mind descends deeper and deeper into unreadiness. You’d at least like to see people with some humility. But a clenched fist and threats of war, while expressing “no second guesses,” seem to be the “special of the day.”
I’m not sure whether to volunteer myself for a prime time interview where I recite difficult to pronounce names of world leaders with Charlie Gibson – and try to plead for sanity. Or whether I should volunteer to be first in line for the firing squad – cuz I’m simply not ready to face Day “One More” of Lady McSham.
Things like the Constitution and Habeas Corpus and Honor and Dignity and Humility seem to have gone right out the window on the Republican Side this election season. I guess I’m supposed to get ready for de facto dictatorship of the worst sort – where people willingly submit to electoral lobotomies and cheer vapid ghosts and pretty heads – who shake fists while nearly curling bodies in a ball.
I’m ready to eat my last meal. And say my goodbyes. Before they shoot me. I’d rather die – if she’s ready – and they loose her.
The Gosimnski story is in NYT too but don’t know what page. On;y saw the online edition but it’s pretty long so i assume page 1.
My SIL’s parents live in Texas City. According to what I have last seen they are going to get smacked hard.
I have to go back and look at the transcript. Did she say “WE have to get to the point where war is not the first option”???? Get to the point? It is now? It will be in a McSame/Palin administration at first and then you’d work on it? How long will it takle for war to not be the first option?
I’ll go check the transcript. If she didn’t say what I said she said, .never mind.
Yes. The upper Texas has dealt with a lot of hurricanes though. Hopefully this one doesn’t strenghten much. It is humongous in expanse.
I hope that this guy is not making stuff up. He is going to get smacked hard and McShame et al are going to play the “victim” role
Gee…. I thought that went back to the Buddha and Jesus. Has she never heard of Jesus?
Maybe I’m being unfair. This is what she said:
As for our right to invade, we’re going to work with these countries, building new relationships, working with existing allies, but forging new also, in order to, Charlie, get to a point in this world, where war is not going to be a first option. In fact, war has got to be and military strike a last option.
Never mind.
But reading that transcript gave me little comfort. In fact, it scared the piss outta me.
It is scary. I wonder whether, if requested, the McCain campaign would agree to substitute the South Carolina beauty contestant (”the Iraq…and such) as his running mate. She at least appeared more genuine.
I’m scared of McCain/Palin being in the White House. Would someone hug me please? I need one at the moment. LOL
Okay, going to work. Have a great day everyone! To those in Texas on here this morning (one of my readers lives in Houston and is going to be riding out the hurricane), I’m thinking of you and hope you’re able to get through the hurricane without much trouble. *crossing fingers*
I am convinced that this is a torture devised just for us. The torture will not stop.
Morning all and anyone/everyone close to this storm, do what you can and please be safe!!! :(
I hope everyone can cope for at least couple of weeks, the aftermath of this storm is going to be wide-spread. It will be a long couple of weeks for a lot of folks, as this storm is going to hitting a lot of country.. :(
p.s. hopefully some ‘Arse-hole/s’ won’t decide to use this storm, it’s damage and cost to ordinary people to to declare a ‘State of Emergency’ for their own purposes. Window of Opportunity and all that…
INSIDE HURRICANE IKE – Amid the engines’ roar, the Air Force Reserve pilots and navigator worked calmly as their huge plane neared the eyewall of Hurricane Ike.
‘The gray cloud, looming 50,000 feet into the sky like a colossal concrete barrier was four miles thick, and the Lockheed WC-130J was hurtling into it.

we’ll need more than hugs if Palin-McCain get elected.
It is not the first option if that is what you want… How hard is that?
Did Sister Sarah’s interview remind you of anything? Well, it reminded me of this.
Andrea Mitchell, in discussing the interview briefly with Rachel Maddow, said that there could be a backlash reaction from women voters who felt Gibson was bullying Palin. She said she was basing that on the comments of some of her own staff. Heaven help us if she’s right.
It was the curling up in a ball part. Look at the tape. She’s hunched over. Very, very strange body language. Reciting strong phrases, while uselessly shaking her fist and curling her body into a ball.
Now… American women may respond to that in terms of a victimized lady – but that must be the inner emptiness underneath the bully.
God help us! I’ve either gone round the bend… or something.
If Glibson can bully someone how ready is that person to go toe to toe with Merkle let alone Putin
Be that as it may, it needs to happen. Doesn’t have to be crude or rude, but ain’t no time to be subdued. Having a genteel disagreement with my blogging partner about this. She’s a high-road kinda woman. Actually, so am I, usually. But I don’t think high road means going mute and letting the poo-flinging go unchallenged. Been doing that for eight years. Doesn’t work. Lost two elections that way. “Lies make me angry. John McCain is lying to you, America.” Connect the dots. There are only two. And while I’m barking, someone here (I think) mentioned that the focus needs to shift away from Palin herself and back to McCain, whose choice this was. The moose stops there.
I fear the worst. Palin is defined precisely as the GOP desired. Nothing short of a smoking gun is going to change that. McCain is going to wear her like a lucky charm. I thought her interview was disastrous, but that impression evidently followed partisan divides. I await Obama mojo, but am not optimistic.
Nobody bullied her. I honestly think you’re seeing “through her.” There’s nothing there!
I don’t agree, I think there are a lot of people on the right that were mortified by her performance last night.
Yeah, but last night McThuselah, on the 9/11 telethon, was telling people that politics is tough business and Obama has to be able to take what he is dishing out. Seems like he has to let that apply to Palin equally. She has to be able to take what the press or the Obama campaign can dish out. McCain, unwittingly, gave permission for that last night.
new name for Palin…HELIUM HEAD…..lighter than air
She’s dangerous.
Questions Ms Palin,
What exactly, Is ‘the mission that we’re on’?
Who is ‘We’?
Why, does this Country need ‘reformed’?
And,
Which War is this? and
Who really is the/your ‘enemy’?’
From BTs link,
‘you have to be wired in a way of being so committed to the mission, the mission that we’re on, reform of this country and victory in the war, you can’t blink,”
I’m not one of the bed-wetters, I think is the term Plouffe used for all the people worried about Obama. I think he has been pretty good. Look, McCain was bound to get a bounce and the Palin pick was a great one for him–politically. Barack’s doing OK.
Take what he is dishing out? Crikey! Talk about convoluted! Calling McSame on lies and distortions is ‘dishing out’? I be getting motion sickness from the spinning.

Plus he actually blamed Obama for the ugly tone!!!! If Obama would have done the town hall meetings the tone would be different. Bullshit.
The voting table linked to above has an interesting anomaly. Going from pre-Biden to post-RNC, McCain picked up 5 points overall but only 5 points among whites, specifically 3 points from white men and 4 points from white women. The inevitable conclusion would be that the minorities are shifting toward McCain in even greater numbers. Hmmmmm.
Love the menu!
I thought Harry did a good enough job of pushing back on Rudy’s spin. When he quoted Richardson as saying Palin had not met the National Security Threshold, Harry insisted that he stop laughing that this was a serious question. Later, Harry flat out would not let him lie about Obama not having these type of questions. Rudy backed down.
No question Maggie was using every Wingnut talking point on Governor Richardson. He used his charm and fellow latino’s rapport building to diffuse her hostility.
I would give Maggie a D and Harry a B+

Has anyone heard or seen McSames new campaign ad. Heard that it was brutal and the response from Obama is weak. Why is Obama always on the defensive? Why does Obama always let the Republican frame dominate? Why does Obama let the McCain campaign take the lead and Obama has to respond? Does Obama want to run a Gore/Kerry campaign or does he want to win? Why does Obama think all he has to do is give the facts and talk about the issues? Has Obama ever read George Lakoff? Why hasn’t Obama hired George Lakoff?

Palin’s town billed rape victims to get evidence
By MARY PEMBERTON
Associated Press Writer
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — When Sarah Palin was mayor of Wasilla, the city billed sexual assault victims and their insurance companies for the cost of rape kits and forensic examinations.
Palin had been in office for four years when the practice of charging rape victims got the attention of state lawmakers in 2000, who passed a bill to stop the practice.
Former Democratic Rep. Eric Croft, who sponsored that bill, said he was disappointed that simply asking the Wasilla police department to stop didn’t work. Croft said he doubts she was unaware of the practice
Taking stok at where we are …
McCain already told us, sadly, that there will be more wars.
Now McPalin tells us, (if McCain kicks the bucket) she will not blink in attacking country.
(Of course, just as Bush insisted, going to war would be a last resort. Perhaps they both meant to say WAR would be a LASTING resort.)
Gve this to McPalin – she is a mission driven soul.
will Obama please hit her and McGiggolo with this, cause the old coote voted against Bidens bill for women

So, if Ike is going to be dominating the news for the rest of the day, and it’s Friday anyway, what will be in today’s newsdump? What have they been sitting on for just an opportunity like today?
How can we blame Obama here? Suppose you had a crazy neighbor who was forever doing crazy things. Craziness is very difficult to pin down and attack.
Seems to me what is happening here is that the mcSham campaign is attacking Barack for everything mcSham and Lady mcSham lack! Or everything they are. If you look at it that way… it makes some sense.
I honestly cannot blame the Obama campaign. Don’t forget: The repubs vacuum everything – in order to protect us. So they have the advantage of spying. Next, they are using lies, slander, and nonsense. Plus playing the victim cards over and over. Poor sociopathic babies! Very hard to combat! If Barack comes on too strong, we know they will brand him as a crazy, angry black man. They’re waiting… to pounce on that!
many hugs and good thoughts, barbara, for David & you.
There’s no lower rhetorical trick than blaming the victim.
He also said that Palin’s sneering derision of “community organizers” was in response to criticism directed at her service as mayor of Wasilla. But, so far as I know, that criticism had not come from the Obama campaign. Nor had it been particularly sneering (except perhaps in the comments on some blogs).
I don’t think she was bullied. He asked her repeatedly to state her answer. She avoided a simple “yes” or “no”. I would expect him to ask for clarification of any candidate who’s spewing a lot of words and not saying anything.

Watching Rudy Ghouliani (as my late 80’s inlaws call him) on Morning Joe talking about the brave firefighters on 911 made me want to vomit. Of course, you don’t hear msm mention radio communication problems & Rudy’s connections. What I don’t know is the status of radio communications between emergency (police, firemen, etc) today in NYC & the rest of the country.
Are we going to see more of the interviews Gibson did with Palin or was last night’s show a compilation of all his interviews over the two day period?
Damn, that was for boogiecheck @ 66.
I really despise that McShame ad alledging that Obama is teaching sex ed in kindergarden. Obama ought to come back that McShame is going after the child predator vote
The McCain campaign is already claiming that Obama is suffering from the “Palin derangmeent syndrome”: “The Obama campaign is totally obsessed with Palin and has become totally focused on attacking her. It’s time that they stop hijacking the discourse and return to the real issues of this campaign.” (Not an exact quote.)
It’s one of the Republicans standard ploys and is one of the ways they tried to fend off criticism of Bush going into the 2004 election.
:D
I was commenting on the snippet of the interview above, SD.
This is so much crap. When O is talking about McShames policy and McShame comes back that lipstick on a pig is an attack who is the one obsessed with Failin
There aren’t many Americans left who actually know what the Great Depression was like and a relatively small percentage who have served in the military or know what combat is like. It’s all vicarious to a large number of people. It seems they think of warfare, even nuclear warfare, like a video game and international relations like pro football. That’s the only reason that I can think of that they aren’t horrified at Sarah Palen’s answers and the surreal prospect that we have reached a point where she could actually be in a position to initiate the end of mankind on the planet.
‘you have to be wired in a way of being so committed to the mission’
Hmmm, maybe she also needs her ‘wiring’ checked.
This woman is ONE heartbeat/stolen election away from being President.
McCain is done.
Palin is more dangerous/better connected. Both Darth and Rove have teams working with/on Palin. She is GOP Shiny (’dirty’/personally dishonest), she is a well-connected window. and she is smart.
But, she is not as smart as she thinks she is, and her actions speak louder than her words.
And If? she can be tied closer to Stevens/Oil/related to other ‘Cons’, That could prove to be interesting :) and, possibly/probably criminal.
She’s not really on very solid ground if you really look at it, but she is very good and the repugs/fundies really want to believe.
and even trots out Torie Clark (who wrote a book titled lipstick on a pig) to get on it. sheesh why does the Republican party hate Republicans?
re: the Gosinksi story and Cindy McCain’s addiction. A friend who lived in AZ led me to believe that you could be thrown in prison forever for being caught with any kind of narcotics including p*t. I guess that didn’t happen to Cindy McCain.
I realize that, I was just asking a general question cuz I didn’t watch it on teebee. He was there for two days and I was wondering if what was on last night was all we were going to get out of that two days of questioning.

Palin Blanks on Bush Doctrine, Sexism to Blame
I’m not understanding this. If McCain’s campaign printed incorrect ballot applications that are being ruled invalid, that’s one thing. The real question is: To whom did they distribute them? If they deliberately and knowingly distributed them to likely democratic voters, then they’re probably guilty of violating Section 1985: Conspiracy to obstruct civil rights.
Sorry. A little out of it this morning.
I didn’t get to watch it, either. I went to the CBS website and it’s posted there.
The McSFB campaign said they put out a million of the absentee requests. Are they trying to overwhelm the system as a means of purging voters?
I sent the pork TPM Palin pork video to someone. The response? Oink, oink.
all I know is they Republican party has no interest in fairplay.
There are 14, count ‘em, 14 candidates for president on the Pinellas County ballot. Holy Moly.
Win, by any means necessary. Malcolm X is spinning in his grave.
Okay this Charles Gibson/Palin interview is funny in pathetic kind of way.
Does anyone know of a new poll that shows McCain is now leading in electoral votes?
It’s being reported that McCain’s “Campaign to Nowhere” has just begun massive caging efforts in Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Florida.
As it was wer missed it by a matter of days. The US had 3000 troops in Georgia on joint manouevres the day before they decided to “retake South Ossetia”. There were still US personnel on the ground shipping out equipment and wrapping up the “war games” operation.
Hard to believe that the Pentagon had “no clue” what the Georgians were up to. I suspect that the whole “war games” scenario was to assist them with surveillance and intelligence…and to provide cover for increased movements of Georgian troops into the conflict zone. The Russians weren’t fooled.
Here are some articles on the use of foreclosure lists by the GOP to obtain the names of people who have been forced to move from their homes…and haven’t re-registered.

Foreclosures Could Lead To Voter Challenges by GOP in Ohio
Voter Caging Using Foreclosure
BTW the Freepers are saying that they really aren’t going to use Foreclosure lists to challenge people, only lists of qualified voters that they have compiled…but this is a bit disingenuous. Those lists will be compiled by getting a foreclosure list, sending a letter to the address, and if it is returned challenging that voter at the polls.
“Lose your home…lose your vote”…despite all their denials!
Good Grief. It’s ABC, not CBS. Did I say I was a little out of it this morning?? I’m going to go crawl in a hole now.
