Andrea Mitchell: "That literally is not true."
Joe Klein: "…Senator Honor’s daily lies and bilge–his constant attempts to divert attention from substantive issues…"
Jonathan Martin: "factually shaky"
Joe Garofoli: "Now McCain is lying about Factcheck.org."
Newsweek: "why kick off your campaign with an ad that’s full of falsehoods?"
John Sidney McCain III is not running an honorable campaign. It’s an unpatriotic campaign. It’s a dishonest campaign. Every ad his campaign has put on the air since his convention has been untrue. The campaign is full of untruths, distortions, and lies. He knows he can’t win a campaign based on the truth, so he lies to the American people to win.
Haven’t we had enough lies? Haven’t we had enough?
Have you had enough?

Itis not we who count. It’s the people who are considering voting R who matter. Have they had enough?
Thank you Teddy. I saw the fact-check of the had but have not seen the ad yet.
I have had enough. And I’m simply praying that Republicans of honor, who truly put their country first, will somehow call a halt to this sham. Or encourage their party members to vote for the opposite ticket.
McCain is a sham candidate. His Trophy VP has now self-destructed on TV, just like Icarus flying too close to the sun. His first act as a nominee and s/he fails the test! She knee-capped one knee of his. He’s done the other.
It’s up to sane Republicans now. If they fail to do the honorable thing, then this means their self-destruction – or ours.
It’s like a suicide mission mcCain is on!
Ya and your point is?
OT: Who are you and what have you done with Tweety?
The did someone from the blogosphere invade Chris Matthew’s body and take control of his vocal cords? The person I saw on Rachel Maddow’s show tonight was not one I’ve seen before. He was kicking ass and naming names. What has the world come to?
Invasion of the body snatchers.
he did that during the rnc as well
THe assumption you’re making is there are republicans of honor.
There are not. Well, except for Suzanne.
Wasn’t it wonderful!
My prayers exactly. One of the things that helped switch TX to the Repub. was a very effective Democrats for Ike way back when. The Cocky WHacko remark was great. My ernest prayer is for Nancy Reagan to endorse Obama..in an act of genuine concern for our country (never mind that she does not like McCain and probably finds Sarah a lying fraud. Yes, let’s beg the Republicans.
georgie just don’t give him that ole leg tingle like he used to.
and he is seeing a change in the winds and is trying to get in ahead of everyone else.
Ted please tell me this ad is going on tv in the red states double points for AZ and Alaska:)
Animals on Letterman. Dir of Columbus Zoo.
Heartily disagree. While the honorable Republicans are in hiding (not much honor in that, but this goes for Democrats in equal or greater numbers), they can’t wait to bust out. Sanity is the default, in my opinion.
How many times has McCain crashed whatever he’s been piloting? He’s definitely due for another one.
Common wisdom has it that regular people start to pay attention to election news after Labor Day these lies might work before Labor Day if only advertised in Red States for the GOP base, GOP bloggers and or if the MSM is not paying attention.
But Newsweek and Andrea Mitchell are calling McCain out on this there will be an effect in the polls soon I give it a week and a half (complete guess) moderate voters will be shocked by McCain’s behaviour.
By that, you mean his campaign, of course…
The Pod people took Tweety? Cool Illegal Aliens of all kinds are standing together:)
Glen Beck and Lou Dobbs must go!
OT: The WSJ used to have a reasonable news department: http://www.dailykos.com/story/…..889/595083
There’s nothing like someone who has woken up to see that what they believed in was a deception. Some did so under bush. And some may do so now. It can be very powerful when it happens. Again… I’m praying.
We need every hand on deck. Including any converts from the other side!
Maybe only the vocal chord snatchers. It was like he couldn’t help himself. Lovely!
Yes. Sanity! And I like your concept of that as the default. Definitely!
Hmmm. maybe he has a fear of success and he sabotages himself or a death wish?
Yes. I keep waiting for his campaign to go into a tailspin. But no, it doesn’t, and no, it’s probably not the best day for airplane humor.
*waving hand in air*
there is a tinge of anger that i automatically feel whenever i hear any of these neo-theo-con-artists called a republican.
Look at our country. Sanity is NOT the default. Sanity is almost extinct.
I have to give the Republican neocons credit for being able to lie about Sarah Palin’s knowledge and expertise in foreign affairs and national security with a straight face. Of course their examples of why she is “experienced” are far fetched and often ridiculous, but they never lose their straight face. That is a talent.
good night all. we’re closing the school early tomorrow for hurricane prep and to get everyone off the roads. means i need to arrive at school earlier than usual.
night pups
Great post Teddy.
Unpatriotic campaign gets extra bonus points from me.
Had Enough.
pain free sleep wishes tex. stay safe and keep us posted.
The Republicans have won seven of the last ten presidential campaigns exactly this way. Let’s not bemoan it; let’s counter it.
IMHO, Obama did the right thing today by giving the go-sign to some 527s that have been waiting in the wings, i.e., he’s implementing plan B. The question is: “How good are they?” Bad 527s can backfire.
But Newsweek and Andrea Mitchell are calling McCain out …
I’m trying to figure out what in the world is going on with Mrs. Greenspan. I seem to recall her getting pretty angry during an interview with (??), but since then, she doesn’t seem to be in the mood for any Repub-shit.
You take care of yourself Tex Betsy!
Snow leopards on Letterman.
I thought that there were some strange people at the immigration marches Hispanics, Whites, African Americans, Asians, American Indians, young, old, kids AIM was there and I think the Black Panthers.
I should have looked up at the sky…I might have seen a Saucer:)
Nite Betsy;)
Yeah, he was really on fire about Palin lying about her bridge support a couple of days ago.
Nice post Teddy. I had seen the BNW piece yesterday and I wasn’t sure if it was hardhitting or confusing…jmho. But your list of people calling him out is impressive.
All I have to do is know that John POW McCain does NOT support the troops despite his droning about our people in uniform ad nauseum….it gets to the heart of his persona.
the msm is sucking up to a possible d presidency. i think they have detected blood in the water, know american are madder than hell about the way its going and have determined it is ’safe’ to go after those they would have feared but now perceive as weak.
It’s just crazy.
Best of luck, Betsy! Be safe.
will do y’all. i know i will be able to send text messages even if we lose power, and i am staying with friends all weekend.
G’night Bets.
Well the Neocons despite their education and experience haven’t gotten one thing right yet Sarah is qualified to do more of the same.
PS I really liked the piece from Matt Damon. Yeah, it’s scary that the GOP is putting forth someone like John McCain and some no name inexperienced pol like Sarah Palin to run the most powerful country in the world. Damn scary.
I hope voters use more than the Rs and the Ds to figure out how they are going to choose.
I appreciate your concern, but what’s the right label? People like John Dean and most libertarians, including Ron Paul and Pat Buchanan, cling to the label, “conservative.” And, IMHO, American Conservative is one of the more rational venues for political publication.
Are the enemy “neoconservatives”? The good-old-boys from the south are not what I’d call neoconservatives, but I still consider them villians.
We really need a term that accurately comprises both Republican and Democratic conservatives (blue dogs / dixiecrats).
Suggestions?
Pod People
I wondered about that too…power suck ups.
But this:
Once the Goopers know for a fact that they don’t have an administration to either kill them or back them, Olympia Snow, and Susan Collins, and Arlen Specter, and a huge number of sanity-capable Republicans in the Senate will not have anywhere to go BUT national interest. The house, well, no telling what they will do.
That’s my bet.
Nite Tex Betsy
incumbents? :P
The notion of AIM as immigrants! What a concept!
Man, do I hope this is true-since they’ve been trying to curry favor with the Republicans for the last 8 years by going after Democrats.
Just plain crazy also works as a valid diagnosis :)
Okay, I’m off to bed too. I haven’t posted here at the lake in months…but that video of Sarah and Charlie got me started. I should probably just stick to lurking when I’m feeling this crabby. Cheers, all.
Cheers. Feel free to crab with us anytime.
night Rick – good to “see” ya.
g’nite rick deville and welcome back – hope to have ya here again soon
Musty McCain and Presumptuous Palin.
A pair of loose cannons.
-G
lest we forget the depths to which he has repeatedly sunk:
http://mediamatters.org/items/200512230005
Losers, McSames if their GOP, Liebermans if their Dem? The bought off by by business wing of Both parties!
The GOP does have a religious and racist wing though who are allies of but not wholly owned by big business.
The Dems have their business wing Minority Voters and Us.
or Gannons?
i think gannon and larry flynt have woke up with horseheads and are now maintaining a low profile.
That is the tack.
After George W. Bush, of course Palin is qualified. To be a stooge hiring hack, a big spender and a secretive authoritarian.
-G
Brown folks supporting each other, we get mistaken for each other often enough that we have similar concerns with law enforcement.
Isn’t the First Step acknowleging something? (I’m no good at these 12 step things, or 10 commandment things for that matter either.)
Nite Rick:)
Larry Flynnt (the person you hate to love) no longer seems to be around when you need him.
Those of us in Arizona who know McCain so well are terrified….. we just cannot imagine him and CindyLou doing that ceremony on Jan 20th…… the thought just makes us sick…..
NIce quote from the Newsweek article linked above:
my bold
I concede to your point. Yes, they do not merit that term.
Tweety’s First Step – “I admit that I am powerless over man-crushes, and that my sycophancy has become unmanageable”.
But Little Chrissy Matthews ain’t playing ball.
McCain has poked the media bear with the pointy stick. Basically calling all of them a pack of misogynists.
Meanwhile giving the despicable misoginysts like Limp-balls a pass.
Cynical and likely dumb.
-G
IMHO, a page has turned. Witness Tweety’s performance tonight on the Rachel Maddow Show. Witness Andrea Mitchel’s somewhat conversion into a rational reporter. Witness Rachel and Kieth. Witness this from Matt Yglesias:
And this from Glenn Greenwald:
The point is that the blogosphere’s constant hammering on the MSM regaring journalistic ethics is starting to take its toll. They can’t ignore it any longer, and they are starting to pay attention to exactly what they are doing to the American political process. A great awakening!
No TV here, so did it it work are the MSM talking heads saying how manly Sarah looks with a Flight Jacket and Cod Piece? Or did the Pod people completely take over Tweety?
After Fox & friends’ number on HRC’s campaign, the path is clear.
Palin vs. Gibson sounded like an audiobook version of some highschooler bullshitting on an essay question in a bluebook.
Fucking weak tea, lady.
Charm only goes so far.
-G
Cool Great News we are shamming them to pretend they have a soul.
Nope. Not that at all. McCain pissed off the media by blinsiding them with the Palin surprise.
Shaming
he lied to them.. it was leaked that it was pawlenty iirc and the media was camped out there.
Could have used a spew alert preface on that one, there…
I’m in line for that step where he personally apologizes to each of the folks he hurt.
And Mrs. Palin didn’t do herself any favor when she essentially told the entire American Media Establishment to fuck off and die during her acceptance speech, either.
Um, unclear. Tweety was all afire about the Bridge Lies but then was quite calm and mild when critiquing SP’s interview with Gibson. Basically damned with mild praise. “good job for a new student.” the guests agreed that her answers will improve over the next few days.
It seemed pretty cynical to me. But it had the affect on me that jeepers she’s too green to be the conservator of McCain’s presidency.
Well great day in the morning, it’s about damn time!
Yep.
Just don’t hold your breath waiting for that one.
Are you “second guessing” her performance? We will not second guess the maverick or his Conservator.
they personally reported those lies and lost face.
By the way, being from NH, that makes me an expert on Maine, Massachusetts and Vermont and the Atlantic Ocean.
-G
Snark Mission Accomplished:)
Hey, creating enemies is what the Rs are all about. Didn’t do ‘em any harm when the Rs accused the MSM of being D stooges.
LOL!
A really bad way to woo the press. McLame was doing better back in the BBQ days of summer.
All Republicans are liars. John McCain is a Republican. John McCain is a liar.
Thanks for the update I’m getting cable back next week I want to see Rachels new show and the debates.
they personally reported those lies and lost face.
fwiw, I saw Pawlenty on JoeScar the day before the official announcement was made, and from the ridiculously shit-eatin’ grin he had on his face, Pawlenty very obviously thought he had it too.
She also borders a Borders.
geezers upstairs
Who then finishes her interview with with Rachel thusly, paraphrasing:
There is a limit to their sanity.
Or maybe he was in on the joke??? I wasn’t really following it that closely back then.
could be I guess, but I didn’t read it that way.
I watched Palin’s interview on Nightline, and that was some weak BS…watching Charlie Gibson having to explain to her just what the Bush Doctrine was was simply unbelievable. No concept of military affairs, diplomacy, or macro-strategic issues whatsoever. I almost have to wonder if she wasn’t picked because, in addition to bringing the religious right onboard, she can be the designated scapegoat…so McCain’s loss can be blamed on her, without the risk of tainting any of the Republican first-teamers with the “loser” badge.
Notice that you haven’t seen Gollums grinning face much lately either?
(That prick Lieberman).
I never thought I’d be defending Larry Flint…but…after the “suicides” of two women that were involved in the DC Madamgate, do you really think he’s ready to “hang” himself for his country?
Come on, how many women do you know who would choose hanging as a way of ending it all?!! Eves popping out and shit all over!?!
Women prefer gentler, more romantic suicides at least according to all the dark conversations I’ve had with my female friends. Pills or warm bath with slit wrists. Why are we so willing to believe they suicided?
Ding ding ding she a loser! Sarah’s song
That’s exactly the reason for my use of the word “somewhat.”
IMHO, Andrea might have a valid, but not a good, point.
It could be that if Bill and Barack had made amends sooner Hillary would have been the Dems VP candidate. “IF.” But, if Barak had wanted her as VP, he could have had that without placating Bill; she would have accepted.
Which leaves the question of whether Hillary would have enhanced Barack’s chances of getting elected. Thus far, I’ve not been so all that impressed with Biden — too much praise for McCain and too erudite in discussions of foreign policy.
Love this!
“Why is lying an acceptable tactic, asset, even, in campaigning for the most important job in the world? “
John McCain wasted all that time trying to control big money in politics and got slapped down by the courts.
Maybe he would have been better off passing legislation allowing the Federal Trade Commission to fine political campaigns for purveying obvious falsehoods in their advertisements. I’m not talking about claims over which there can be a reasoned dispute. I mean claims that are just obvious lies, about which all reasonable persons would agree as to their plain falsehood.
After all, food and drug companies are not allowed to make false claims on the public airwaves. Isn’t who is president potentially as vital a question for your health as whether Kevin Trudeau can lie to you in his infomercials?
The president of the United States can still start a nuclear war with an ill-considered policy, leaving tens of millions of people dead and threatening all life on earth with a nuclear winter.
That doesn’t deserve the slightest due diligence from our regulatory agencies?
Ironically, McCain, who once tried to reform political campaigns, is now the Kevin Trudeau of political commercials.

To chase off the blues, I’m watching History Boys, before I leave for Edinburgh.
Those sprinkled donuts were all for naught. I agree. The lapdogs got a swift kick.
After the enthralling, traumatically bonding moments of — with baited breaths — watching GWB try to reach the end of a sentence that is a complete thought, we have the specter of 4 more years of that? There is something addictive about it, the excitement of marveling at how this person possibly got to such a high office, and watching the colossal incompetence play itself out. And yet there are puppet masters beyond them with self-serving, screw the citizenry agendas. And we see glimpses of their vulnerability through our self protective demonization of them and what their behaviors have wrought… and it is crazymaking.
GWB and SP … loyalty … desparately need that loyalty. Threatened by competence and someone who puts integrity over loyalty.
Are the “Had Enough” commericals from 2006 going to be revived?
And, does anyone know: it sounds like James Taylor singing on the “Don’t Know Much About . . .” Obama commerical that slams McCain. Is it?
Jon Soltz [VoteVets]had an excellent article up yesterday about the many ways McCain has failed to support vets. I hope it gets circulated far & wide within the veterans community. I’ve done my part to send it along.

Bahahaha.
Yes.
