Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska may have hijacked Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign, but Mr. McCain is acting more and more like the happy captive. And why not? Probably the biggest crowd of his 2008 campaign turned out this morning at Van Dyke Park in northern Virginia, chanting “Sarah, Sarah, Sarah!’’
The Fairfax City fire marshal this afternoon estimated the crowd at 15,000, their numbers clearly evident as they covered the grassy hillsides and spilled down to a large outdoor stage. “I am so grateful for this turnout!’’ shouted Mr. McCain, who attracted crowds in the low hundreds before he selected Ms. Palin as his running mate.
Has this ever happened in the history of presidential campaigns? That crowds chant the veep’s name and totally ignore the top of the ticket? I don’t think so.
It’s getting to the point where McSame is clearly afraid to campaign without Palin.
Will she hold his hand at the debates?

Heh, I just got EPU’d posting this link…
Who knows? Maybe she’ll start fighting with Lindsey “Carpet Ride” Graham and Joe “Short Ride” Lieberman for dibbsies on the seat next to John “Free Ride” McCain on the Sugar Mama Express…
He can’t campaign alone in any case. He can’t draw a crowd without Palin….and pretty soon she’ll be hidden in a cave in the border regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan…just to avoid the press questions.
He’ll be all on his little lonesome…except for Lieberman (hmmm…he might not appear with him anymore..) or Lindsay (most likely) or Cindy (not after McCain moans “Sarah” in his sleep)….Hmmm…that leaves Lindsay to hold his hand, but that won’t draw a crowd…and when protesters start yelling “lipstick” “lipstick” “lipstick on a pig”…well…that’s no fun now is it?
What we have here is a man who has no future – and a woman who doesn’t believe there is a future. My head hurts when I try to imagine who
would cast a vote for that.
Blue Texan – awesome! you have captured the issue perfectly and without having to rely on any idiotic reactionary ideas about appropriate gender roles. very nicely done!
standing up and applauding you!!!!
Yup. Atrios has it:
That will make her cut him off, and that will really set him off!
most of my neighbors. Talk about hurting head!
Homelandians will vote for that.
I bet that didn’t ruffle his feathers…
I covet that video….there must, must be one. Score.
Heh, I saw it at TPM…! ;-)
Oh, I know, I know. I live in dumf**k country myself. Low information, loud and proud! I have a more-or-less permanent headache.
sounds like you have your work cut out for you.
Hey, he’s Sarah’s POW.
but Duncan is a local. He’s got more.
Ick…he’ll get off on that idea….eww.
Then when he comes to his senses, he’ll get really, really angry….
nope. Next door on one side is the lady who sits behind the rethug table just outside the polls. Across the street is the lady with the perfect lawn that she mows with her mask on—probably to protect her from the chemicals she has had spread to keep it perfect that pollute all of the water around. On the other side is retired military blaring the teevee on the enclosed porch all day.
Not wasting my effort.
Sarah Palin is John McCain’s Tupperware Party Host.
Gawd…they are living McCain’s version of what the American dream should be. How sad.
Thank God for you. Shine your light!
That’s good.
Prepared by the chef she fired but didn’t really fire…the one that prepares food for her kids that miss her cause their mom fired her. Huh?
I heard he’s scared to walk into a room without her.
Thanx BT
I heard some Republican doofus refer to John McCain as “Sarah McCain” on Tweety tonight.
I swear.
I couldn’t take watching Tweety tonight. Or any politics for that matter.
I guess this is really about voting for Sarah and not McCain What a fucking joke!!
Hey pups Digg is now open!!
So time to get the shovels and start Digging this fine POST by BT!! Crowd shouting Sarah how fucking funny…
Oh and make sure to catch Keith’s “Special Comment” On the vile use by the repukes using 911 for political gain at their convention…. What fucking traitors to all who died that day including OUR family friend Nicole Miller of San Jose!! Think I am outraged just think if it was your friend who died whom you knew since she was a baby!!
Has anyone else noticed how he’s constantly twisting on his wedding ring as he stands behind Palin?
A little serenade for poor Johnny.
very comfy suburbia—people who don’t think much and buy more than they need at Walmart. It amazes me that we put out about 1 garbage can 1/2 full per week and next door at the repub. pct. person’s house they put out 2-3 cans/bags twice a week. Yes, they have 2 young kids, but really. Do people have to generate that much landfill waste? It’s the repug. way, I guess.
So how do we think Cindy is taking all of this?
Seems like the pick of Sarah Palin has begun to emasculate McCain…that is really gonna piss him off…Pretty soon he’ll be thinking of her as the Queen of Hearts…wahhh..wahhh…she’s spoiling my presidential entitlement…wahhhh…wahhh…I’ll bet after the honeymoon cools, he’ll be calling her a tro**op and a *unt for upstaging him…
How incredibly embarrassing…what horrible judgment…
He’s just tightening his balls up a bit! Ya know staring at a better looking woman than his wife gives him a rise and he needs to keep things in control or Cindy will remove the family jewels… Oh maybe they are all shriveled already /S
it’s not about issues it’s about personality !
the type of person that would vote for NcSame because of sarah Palin likely has the attention span of a gnat
start talking issues with these people ,and their eyes glaze over and they quickly change the subject
all men or women were not created equal!
You have my sympathies. I have a lady across the street like your mower gal; the guy behind me flew his flag upside down during the whole Clinton terms and not a few of my clients murmur (ala Chinatown):”Black man? Woman?” as they ponder the non-future.
I know what you mean. Whenever, rarely, I go to a supermarket, I love to watch what people buy…unbelievable…nowadays people are so strapped that the baskets have changed…even more pure carbs…cheaper food sources, very colorful…sigh. Lots of packaging…Lots of plastic. Almost zero protein. They are hurtin’, but they are mostly repubs.
Nothing new in this phenomenon, McCain has always been a lazy playboy
Vietnam War notwithstanding… the guy has never worked a day in his
life, played teddy bear for powerful women who could advance his career.
They are overplaying the only campaign they have, this 8th grade class
crybaby style should age quickly by overexposure.
Glad I live in a nice liberal state like Massachusetts we don,t have “those types here”
Yeah ,right, I wish!
mature 8th graders everywhere resent the comparison
She is drawing huge crowds everywhere she goes—people are lining up JUST to hear Palin lie.
Oh cry me a river. /s
Signed,
Arkansas
It’slike going to see the movie Pinnochio for free.
Substitute middle school bus crybaby with my apologies.
hah hah. You funny. I live in California. It’s more than just Los Angeles and
San Francisco you know. s/
Hmmm, so if McCain and Palin have to campaign together for the appearance to be successful and McCain is too old to do more than one or two appearances a day, and no other Republics are willing to stick their necks out far enough to do their own appearances for them, then this campaign is not going to touch very many voters.
Obama and Biden can each pack them in on their own. Isn’t Michelle doing her own appearances? As I understand it, both Clintons plan to campaign, too. I think this Gang of Five, with their energy, can cover a lot of ground and touch many more voters personally.
No wonder Rove is concentrating on manufactured outrage. They got nuthin.
Sounds like my neighborhood. The Dems don’t even bother to run state legislature candidates here – whoever wins the rethug primary for state senate or house wins the seat.
I’ve seen some of the tapes of McLame + Palin, and she clearly energizes the show. Doesn’t she seem a bit hyper? Like the Energizer Bunny? With a voice to match? But she does excite the crowds, and McLame, too.
I think McLame will keep her at his side, to attract and jazz up the crowds, until the Palin bubble bursts. Then, as attendance plunges, he’ll dump her like… um, “a hot potato”. Or hot tamale. Or whatever.
Then the Republicans will whip themselves into a frenzy about the mean old “liberal” press, and demand the sacrifice of one or two more TV news anchors that dared to tell the truth (watch out, Tweety, you could be next.)

I agree. But, then someone suggested that maybe Cindy’s father was using him rather than the other way around. Saw his bio and figured he could get elected. Maybe he’s been a puppet all his life. He’s certainly been a puppet for his lobbyist friends. And, he’s so freeking dumb that they convince him that he’s too honorable to be corrupt. Then they all toast each other and laugh.
For the near future, she’ll be in school:
Ach-ma-din-i-jad
Ickydinbad?
Ach-ma-din-i-jad
“I” “ran”
Iron?
“I” “ran”
Iraaan?
No, that sounds too elitest…”I” “ran”…
“Eng-land”
“Eng-land”…is that the soldier..
Shut up…”Eng-land” and “Grreat Brit-tan”
Is that like “Cornflakes”?
Pooootin…Poooo-tin
Stop it!
“Med-ye-dev”…yeah, the President…no not of America…of Russia…no… not the Soviet Union!!
What is wrong with you!!
Lieberman may be called yet.
The McCain Campaign is “The Brady Bunch,” and Sarah is Cousin Oliver.
And the show is about to be cancelled.
I think her husband Todd is also in learning with her. I read that on the internets yesterday somewhere. Rovian Cliff Notes.
Is our VP learning?
KO’s SC!!!
oddly in the county I’m in I live in the only dot that has a dem state rep. and sen. and Sestak for congressman. The only one. The state rep. one last election by something like 28 votes. I hope she can hold on this time.
Isn’t it fun watching the sheep go to the slaughter…
Poor neocons. They drag their knuckles on the ground as they walk and then have no idea how the dirt and the grass got between their fingers! Truly….they are moronic.
So, Chris Matthews is gettin’ his own special comment now….
Maybe the Rethugs shouldn’t have been pressuring so much about KO and Matthews on the convention coverage. Be careful what you wish for, thuggies.
Actually I live in central Mass an area where the Puritans were active.
if you remember history the Puritans were like 18th century christian taliban
This part of the state is still very conservative ,the Puritan” ethic ” still survives
I’m glad you at least have hope. There’s none here. My US Rep is Tom Cole of the nefarious NRCC.
Breaking: 7.2 Quake hits northern Japan.
KO “the blind endorsing the bland” Rudi and McShame.
opening again the horrifying wounds. . . .
conflate 9/11 with 1979 hostage crisis.
Tribute to how valuable 9/11 has become to rethug party.
9/11 TM.
Yep, and they made their way here to the Isles and subsequently banned the Hawaiian language and the hula…! 8-(
Does that hula come with “favors”?
“Terrorists are not who you fight, Sen McCain, Terrorists are what you use…!”
KO has just given a great rebuttal of the Repukes use of 9-11 for political GAIN!!! Thank you Keith!!
The scary thing, she is probably smarter than McCain.
Are they the ones who clothed the “natives”?
Maybe street smart but not an intellectual. And lazy, too. She was elected gov, wielded her magic veto pen and disappeared.
Have noticed it a lot and wondered what it says as I have studied a bit about body language. Here is what I found:
“
“Fiddling with a Wedding Ring: This nervous trait indicates that there is something wrong with the relationship — especially if the person is talking about his or her spouse at the same time.”
I think he is thinking “I wish I was free to have her as more than a running mate.”
Well, smarter now anyway. McCain’s boozing and boxing has caused a lot of impairment. Flailin is no intellectual.
This whole 9/11 thing smells of Rove. It should be a Republican weak point. After all, the greatest act of domestic terrorism happened on their watch. Its time to turn the Rovian tables on them: attack them for their laxness in allowing 9/11 to happen, saying they can’t be trusted to stop the next big one, since they blew off the last one.
But instead, our Democratic so-called “leadership” whines and wrings their hands, and cringes before the faux-saviors, begging to be spared. They are relying on old ideas and old campaign tactics that have proven useless.
Bob in HI
Just smart enough to screw things up!
Mayhew-Tupper here. Though my Dad was born down on the farm at Hull.
That 9/11 video they showed was repulsive!!
I was born in Orange Ca!
Spent a lifetime in Huntington Beach one year. I’ve been a Left Coaster for many years now. Mostly LA but now retired (so to speak)in a rural mid-coast area. Pretty scenery but can be a mind-duster unless you work at finding the thinking crowd.
The obvious pimping makes me cringe. Someone needs to tell him to stop rubbing his hands as he stands beside her. The best answer to the Obama “lipstick on a pig”/”he is making sexist remarks” controversy is to point out how cravenly sexist it is for John McCain to use a woman to attract the crowds he can’t. In South Dakota in front of a bikers, he offered his wife up as a contestant in the raunchy Miss Buffalo Chip Contest. Just a “joke” of course. Ha!Ha! Not to mention that he dumped his first wife when she lost her looks in an automobile accident to marry a much younger “looker” with bags of money attached. He has a difinite pattern: HE is the “sexist pig.” Someone needs to get through to Olbermann and set him onto the real story of how truly craven this man is in his exploitation of women.
new story to me. not a lie. just an exaggeration. not surprised

i get soap under mine sometimes and it itches.
Clearly the core of the Republican party, the religious Right, the extremists, are still in thrall of George W. Bush and love Sarah Palin who continues those ideas.
Those are the 23 percenters. Yet the pollsters try to be balanced…
Each of them must be wondering what they want the other one around for. The Palindrones must be wondering why they need McCain and how they can fast-forward to get past him. Meanwhile, the McCain are probably wondering if it’s safe for JM to go out in public for fear the Palindrones HAVE FOUND a way to get rid of him.
That has to be a very uneasy relationship just now.
What if, in the election, Palin were to get more votes as V.P. candidate than McCain as Prez. candidate? Now THAT would be embarrassing.
Well, she is pretty good at it. She has a real flair for it. And, even after it’s discovered and reported by the press she comes right back and does it again as though nothing’s changed.
Is that what the “traditional family values” crowd has been hoping for?
It’s time for Obama-Biden.
