I very much like this latest ad from the Obama camp about the lies. But, I would take it further. I have mentioned elsewhere that if Rove were running the Obama campaign he would be targeting McCain on his preceived stength; Ingetrity. McCain’s “Country First” mantra is all about integrity. Well, a liar has lost his integrity. A campaign that lies every time it opens it’s mouth or runs an ad full of lies has no integrity. Tie every lie with lost integrity. Desimate the integrity issue. McCain/Palin = No Integrity. Strip McCain of his integrity, after all, he gave it up without a thought.

To get back to your original point, it is a pretty strong statement to say that Biden “lied” here - while I will readily admit it looks pretty stinky what Biden did and how he phrases things; Palin is a totally different animal - she consistently is saying things that are demonstrably untrue and that are easy to understand, especially for the low information voter.

I have read a great deal about the Iraq War and the intelligence and WMD, etc. and my head hurts trying to grasp all the issues and parties involved here. Trying to convince low information voters by saying that Biden possibly lied 3 or 4 times, while Palin lies all the time manages to cloud the message.

Another issue, which the GOP is really, really good at is to say how broken government and governmental institutions are. As a tactic this “all politicians are liars” tactic serves only one master, those who don’t want government to do anything whatsoever. By extension, this harms the progressive movement in general.

The GOP and its mainstream media friends already do a wonderful job disseminating oppo research - I just think that we should do them any favors by helping them out here.

I am not a big fan of Biden as he has not shown the propensity to buck conventional wisdom. On the other hand, Palin/McCain are 150 times worse;

but isn’t the point to try to convince other people, especially those who might be inclined to vote for mccain/palin, to change their minds?

or are we only trying to convince ourselves?
