Rick Davis told Fox News Sunday that Sarah Palin would not be made available to speak to the press until they treat her with "respect and deference." Good for him. The Democrats’ and the liberal media’s scurrilous attacks on Sarah Palin have indeed been appalling.
I’m stunned – couldn’t the Republican Party find one competent female with adult children to run for Vice President with McCain? I realize his advisors probably didn’t want a “mature” woman, as the Democrats keep harping on his age. But really, what kind of role model is a woman whose fifth child was recently born with a serious issue, Down Syndrome, and then goes back to the job of Governor within days of the birth?
If it were your decision, and you were putting your country first, would you put an untested small-town mayor a heartbeat away from the presidency?
Palin is not ready.
…some argue instead (or alternatively) that Sarah Palin’s credentials are adequate. These arguments are mostly laughable.
If Palin gets elected, John Hagee wins again.
You know what’s really the worst thing about it? The greatness of McCain is no cynicism, and this is cynical.
The most qualified? No! I think they went for this – excuse me – political bullshit about narratives.
"She’s not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president?" said Green, a Republican from Palin’s hometown of Wasilla. "Look at what she’s done to this state. What would she do to the nation?"

Zed can fill once Sarah drops off the ticket?
How dare you !!!
Murphy was speaking off the recored and you have no right to quote him.
I assure you that Charles Gibson would never stoop this low.
Time for a blogging ethics panel.
How many people listen to Dr. Laura these days. Elitist she is not. Redmeat (of the chastising housewives kind), more like.
I love the smell of Schadenfrude in the morning.
I finally had to get on to my dad, poor guy.
He keeps sending me all those Right Wing Pro Palin emails that his Winger neighbor floods him with.
I told him to quit forwarding them o me because all it does is piss me off to have to pick them apart, talking point by talking point and send it back.
It gets tiresome after a while.
Or maybe it would be more appropriate to say Zed can fill in once Sarah drops McCain from HER ticket…
Nicely done!
ALA’s tepid response to Sarah Palin/banned book controversy. God forbid we should lose our tax exempt status.

Thanks BT.
As long as we persist in believing politics is all about qualifications, solid policies and good governance we are going to struggle mightily.
I watched Obama and Biden on the Sunday talk shows. They were well informed, articulate and reasonable, but neither seemed like someone I would want covering my back.
Have you ever noticed that when someone gets in real serious legal trouble, they don’t hire law shool profs or former law review editors.
They want someone that will fight like hell and not be overly concerned about the Marquis of Queensbury’s rule.
These are just a few cracks in the otherwise monolithic facade of the Republican Party and the media who continue to portray the selection of someone totally unqualified as a brilliant political idea. It is the Big Lie. It is a true and faithful expression of pure stupidity. I am reminded of Dennis Kucinich’s admonition to the country in his convention speech to Wake up, America!
Hey, you’re not alone! But I find that I am getting to some of them with the blow by blow of facts.
In my experience, there is a lot of latent racism (and sexism) on the part of the authoritarian GOP so it must manifest itself in other ways. In the same way as Republican white girls who get knocked up and “choose” to keep their babies are role models but minority girls in the same situation are the downfall of our civilization.
So, these stupid, fact-less smear emails give cover to their myopic worldview.
I do the same thing you do, line by line rebut the arguments and send it back to everyone on the distribution list. I’m hoping a few people are shamed into the right vote.
Hey, are evangelicals going to vote with their BS again?
I thought they were tired of being used and lied to. Are they going to put abortion at the top of the discussion AGAIN vs. the death of the ######## BORN people, the economy, and the crimes of Bush/Cheney, and above law and order for all???
I don’t think Sarah Palin is quite the loving Evangelical that McCain thinks she is.
Love thine enemy as thyself.
If only she would drop off the ticket (that would totally cast away the fundies in the GOP wrt McInsane). She is there to stay and the Fundies are praying for a win (with caveats).
They are praying for the Lord (rather than the voter) to install McCain as President and then immediately “call him home to Jaysus!” so that Palin can be President.
Barring a real scandal (I do hope the affair with hubby’s business partner pans out…that would do it…or for Troopergate and other stuff to grow), Palin the Wolf Killer will remain on the ticket.
She is about to be (what is the equivalent to “fellated” vis a vis cunnilingus? Cunniling…ed?) by Charles Gibson and ABC in his “interview”. She will be shown as if Katy Couric is “interviewing” her, filmed in soft focus and with light sepia tones. Softballs will be flying all over bejeezus and there will be bazillions of viewers (ie, idiots) who will buy it all hook, line, and stinker.
Well, I did like hearing Obama telling a crowd “they must think you are stupid”
Behold the Woman:
Not ready to campaign on day one, no way ready to assume the presidency on day on if need be.
For the last few months I had been confident that Obama would win handily. Now I’m becoming frightened.
Who could possibly prefer McCain over Obama after their starkly different convention speeches? Unbelievable. If Palin has made him popular, shouldn’t we be attacking her with everything we’ve got?
I do feel a lot of the attacks on Palin from the left are sexist, even if they’re in a hoisting-McCain-on-his own-petard sort of way. I mean, come on, this post is right above the one from bmaz about Palin’s skirt.
How about those loyalty tests as mayor? Sounds like Palin would make a good DOJ employee, no experience, lots of loyalty tests
Palin told the Daily News back then the letters were just a test of loyalty as she took on the mayor’s job, which she’d won from three-term mayor John Stein in a hard-fought election. Stein had hired many of the department heads. Both Emmons and Stambaugh had publicly supported him against Palin.

My hometown daily in Fargo prints five letters to the editor this a.m. 3 pro-Obama, 2 pro-Palin [McCain = invisible candidate. Wonder how long Mr. Hot Temper’s gonna like that?].
Of the 3 pro-Obama, 1 is a Republican for Obama.
The tide is turning, slow but sure…this is a marathon, not a sprint.
Keep your spirits up, the groundgame will prevail…as long as we all pitch in.
They went with ABC because it is nearly as Republican friendly as Fox but still has more news cred. The truth is we no longer have a news media in this country. As I said earlier today, the MSM is a propaganda and infotainment industry. Journalism when it is committed is an aberration and those who dare to commit it are marginalized by their more respectable and far better paid colleagues.
Those who are outraged (or feign outrage) at every criticism of and unflattering biographical revelation about Sarah Palin don’t point to anything sexist in her being instructed to lie low until she’s told to come out.
Ew!

An unvetted candidate who is hidden from public view, ostensibly because her real views are incendiary – this is inevitable.
It’s called “projection.” You view in the outside world, and attack, what is really coming from inside yourself.
Projection, like denial, is a very primitive defense mechanism. That’s what we’re seeing here. Primitive behavior on the part of the Repubs.
They cannot behave like adults and propose a program of their own. So instead they behave like children or mental patients – attacking others for the very things they are doing themselves.
Insanity! Alive and well in the republican party.
And they’re trying to drive us insane as well. Tying our neurons into knots by their illogical assertions. And attacking our logic as “elitist.”
Not sure what happened there but my 20 is in response to Praedor at 14.

“deference”??? what the heck should anybody defer to her on?
I understand what you are pointing out. It’s a little confusing, though, when someone throws a rock and then complains about getting hit back, so unfair. Some of the scrutiny should be expected, very much so, and the campaign is not being forthcoming. The noise would die down if they just played ball. The choice, even if I liked Palin, is insulting due to lack of cred. but it sound sexist because of the PTA thing. Sorry. If I sent a resume like that to the White House, I would be laughed off the map.
Is it sexist? They say so, but really, she is a fluke of the universe.

Oh, one more thing. If Palin is soooooo uncomfortable with sexism, why did she become a sportscaster? That world is rife with sexism. So the existence of sexism should come as no surprise, and she should already have plenty of experience to deal with it. So, where is she?
Over in the corner, crying sexism. If you don’t want to get dirty, don’t play in the mud.

Hmm. The hiding behind her skirt thing is a bit sexist. What other specific attacks from the left have you noticed that are sexist?
Bada Bing!
For those who are expecting a crazed harpy to appear in the VP debate, I recommend checking out her performance in the Alaskan Governor’s debate from 2006.
it’s up on CSPAN at Road to the White House
She looks and sounds reasonable and sane.
McSame’s VP pic is on ABC cause they couldn’t bully Oprah.
We need some help from Iffil on issues, and we need Joe to be pitch-perfect.
Brokaw should have stayed retired and kept the fiction of his serious newsman persona intact. But he came back and had to show himself for the hack that he is.
Yes, this is the thing. Dems should not underestimate a personality like Palin. She will come out swinging after telling you to play nice. She will not fight fair.
She reminds me of Demi Moore in Disclosure.
most definitely!
completely agree about the skirt thing (and said so in the comments). but, imo, BT’s post is brilliant. qualifications and experience ought to be fair game if the nominee was a little green martian – or a woman. and that BT quotes rightwingers makes it all the better.
the nominee’s habit of wearing skirts? not so much.
That is the reason that I am frightened. I only caught a few minutes, but she was much better than I thought she would be.
when choosing to work in a male dominated field, a woman does not give up her right to object if circumstances warrant it.
Sometimes the Hail-Mary gets you a touchdown.
Yeah. But in defense of the left, our standards are so, so much higher. The skirt comment wouldn’t even raise an eyebrow around some other places.
re john and cindy mccain. there was the whole sugar momma thing and then the post about who wears the pants in the family.
because, as we all know, liberals can’t stand to see a male/female couple if the man doesn’t have more money than the woman. upsets the natural order. /s
let’s get back to rightly trashing her experience and qualifications.

Rove and Davis picked Palin for Johnny Seven-Tables, no doubt about it. Putting her on the ticket gives them to opportunity to fully manage the narrative WRT Palin, and completely control access to her.
Her fundie credentials are impeccable, and she is the key to making the Ohio (and other ChristoFascists) feel comfortable casting a vote for Palin/McCain. They are now assured that God is voting on their side again, that Israel will be destroyed in the upcoming Armageddon, that they will be raptured with her to nestle in the bosom of the Flying Spaghetti Monster or whatever.
If it takes sexist attacks to bring her down, well at this point in American politics so be it. I hate to say that, but the republicans are not stopping at racial attacks on Obama (”uppity”) and the inferences that somehow being a member of the African-American Community is not worth dedicating your services as a Cum-Laude Harvard Law graduate as an “organizer”.
We lost the 2004 election in part due to John Kerry’s timidity in responding to the Swift Boater. We have been shown that the republicans are not willing to play nice in any sense of the word, and it’s time to stop bringing rusty sporks to gun fights where they have TEC-9s.
I hate that American Politics has come to this, but it’s time to win. We have to take our country back.
We’ve got to attack their strength, which is Palin. No ignoring her.
MSNBC replacement of Olbermann and Matthews due to right criticisms is covered by Glenn Greenwald too today. That the totally toadying David Gregory is to replace them really tells you all you need to know. The fix is definitely in. I guess they had to go with Gregory because Tucker Carlson was unavailable.
OK, to clarify, SP is knowingly going into a particular environment, and knowingly going to fight the fight. Don’t play victim. Yes, it’s ok to object to a point. But you stay in the game. You don’t pick up your marbles and go home until the opponent “learns respect”. I don’t think the press has been particularly disrespectful to the degree that Hillary was treated. Sexist, yeah, OK, the mommy wars suck.
Hillary’s on giving a good speech, so I’m glad to see some pushback. It’s a long way to November, anything can happen. Palin’s sneaky, mean-spirited sarcasm is really irritating…but unfortunately, it is her biggest tool…it might finally just turn people off (other than evangelicals that is).
I agree. Keeping the polls within 1% enables the machines to make McCain/Palin/Puppet the next phase of Bushco. Gregory is a shill hack.
Amen!
This news definitely makes me sick to my stomach. seriously.
I agree. There is so much legitimate stuff to attack with Palin. The snarky sexist asides are counterproductive. As with all sexism, though, it runs so deep that even a snarling feminist like me tunes it out when it suits my purposes. *guilty*
I received this from a right winger. What a fear mongering hateful lieing bunch of crap clip. I probably should say “brainwashing.”

No Olbermann as anchor?
Well, there’s always FDL, Comedy Central and cartoon network on election night. All reliable sources of unbiased information.
remember, MSNBC made Gregory the anchor, Keith and Tweety will be there as ‘analysts’ which may mean KO is free to be even more “uncivil”
It would be great if we could marginalize the extremists to those who stood in the convention center at ST. Paul. We Americans including Evangelicals, including disenfranchised repubs, dems, and independents and Ron Paul fans, we really need to come together against the vile Death and Hate party.
LOL! I bet cartoon network will have great coverage.
But is not fighting with all things a smart move? Even if they are not our preferred methods, we have to win… or they will and the Republic as we know it is finished.
Actually, the hiding behind the skirts thing isn’t so much sexist as it is insulting to McCain, the Mama’s boy.
McCain who is an admitted Mama’s boy.
McCain who built his career on his second wife’s miney.
McCain who is using his VP candidate’s skirts to avoid answering quesitons on policy.
If anything, the hiding behind the skirts thing gives her more stature than she deserves based on her record.
I love KO, but he brought this on himself, IMO. And not the partisan tone, but snide replies to the other hosts. They were waiting to pounce and he gave them what they needed. He had to see this coming.
how could we not be at least occasionally guilty of it unless we were raised off planet?
and imo that’s what it’s about – recognizing it and working on it. the not working on it and defending it instead is what irks me.
He (and Tweety) are being replaced during the election coverage.
The Rs worked the refs to their advantage.
The fundies have been calling for the Rapture for so long now one would think they’d get the hint that it ain’t happenin’.

JoeScar can go nuts about being called a Republic, but anyone on the left can just go off the air.
the neocons win again. They control Big Energy, Big Arms, Big Media and Big Jesus. Expect more of the same. The elevation of McCain/Palin to sainthood while the dems along with Obama/Biden are hounded and chased from pillar to post. Remember who ultimately controls the MSM. MSNBC is not a left of center network. What it is, all it is, is a version of fns. An attempt by the ownership to gain viewers by espousing a political viewpoint that could gain viewers. If they believe that wing nut talking heads would do better, all the liberal hosts would be fired forthwith. The current goal of the present group of oligarchs is to elect McCain/Palin as they believe that their programs would be continued while if Obama is elected they might not. You will see over the next 2 months an attempt by the MSM to make McCain a saviour in the eyes of the sheeple. Obama will be denigrated at every turn and the MSM will be urging the “low information voter” ie the sheeple to believe that McCain will be the ultimate winner. That he is a republician-part of the party that trashed the govt-will be ignored. That Palins views are so far out of the mainstream that she makes the John Birch Society look mainstream, will be ignored. Gaffes, temper, lies will be ignored or just allowed to die thru inattention while every word that Obama says will be searched to find something wrong. The sheeple will continue to get all their info thru the filter of corporate censorship. The net is still a minority plaything with regards to politics. This election is not only to get the crooks out of office but is all about the heart and soul of the nation. Are we in fact a nation of laws and respect for minorities and women, or are we a nation of oligarchs and extreme wealth who will take our nation into the depths of Authoritarianism and militarism. That is what this election is about. The future of the US will be decided this year. Will we rise to the challange or will we succumb to the baser instincts of Authoritarianism. It will be close. Authoritatian leaders and followers have been growing in strength over the last 40 years and the democratic party has ignored the growing problem. I would hope that people inform themselves about this problem. Many studies can be easily found on the internet, I believe that the best of them come from Canada. 60 years of studies, multigenerational studies, ignored for the most part by almost everyone. John Deans book Conservatives without Conscience started me on my journey of discovery of the dangers of Authoritarianism. I would hope that some readers here will check this danger out. It has the distinct possibility of changing the US forever.
I’d recommend absolutely no mention of family, family values, juggling work and family, children, children having children, or wardrobe choices.
Keeping the questions and the spotlight on issues, issues, issues will show which candidates have the knowledge to serve for the next four years.
I initially thought of the comment from this angle as well. But after a moment of reflection I realized that what is really says is that McCain is so unmanly that a weak, frilly woman has to protect him, thereby reiterating that women are weaker and frillier than men. It’s like calling him a p***y–an insult to a man for sure, but a much deeper insult to all women who have the offending organ.
I thought James Dobson played a part in the choice of Palin. Or did he just give two thumbs up?
it is sexist because it is premised on reactionary gender roles.
however, if you can point to equivalent statements such as “he is hiding behind her pants” (or his pants), criticism of women who marry men with money and the like – i will withdraw my statement.
*G*
Pretty much.
BTW, if you would stick some paragraphs in your long comment(s), it would be easier and faster to read…at least for me… *g*
This is an interesting piece on Palin and the rights of the fetus

All signs point to two.
exactly. excellent analysis and well said.
and just to continue a bit… i don’t think this concept of what it means to be a man is any less destructive than our fucked up ideas of what it means to be a woman. to me, being a feminist means questioning and challenging our assumptions about (among other things) gender and hierarchy. for the benefit of both women and men.
You go into a campaign with the media you have.
Yes, they are horrible, but this is not anything new. We can’t fix it at this late hour.
The only solution is to get our candidates to stop acting like this election is a damn academic debate being held on Friday afternoon in the faculty lounge.
We need to ruthlessly attack the opposition with a cold-hearted fury.
You mean the comments where a woman is described as a “money-grubbing b*tch” after she marries a rich older man.
Or maybe the comments about how HRC “emasculated” Bill?
Yes, those type of comments do go both ways.
McCain is an admitted “Mama’s boy.” A term he uses.
He DID build his career on his second wife’s money. That is a fact.
And although Governor Palin was supposed to be going home to clear up family things and see her son off to Iraq, instead, they seem to be doing joint photo ops around the country where the #2 on the ticket is getting all the attention and drawing the crowds.
So, yes, I do feel that it is appropriate to call McCain on it.
in that c-span tape of the Alaska debate she was very under control, answered questions. she’s good. plus she’s be on a short leash. she won’t make mistakes. she shouldn’t, anyway.
in re: somebody else– i don’t see how “hiding behind her skirt” is sexist at all.
Don’t look for the real Palin in the 2006 Governor’s race debate. Look for the real Palin in video of hockey games, snowmobile rallies, and wherever she’s lettin’ her hair down.
The Pukes have entered words into this campaign that resonate because they are used repetitively….fight…drill…reform…and have stolen “change”.
Obama and crew need to come up with some…and repeat often…Keating 5…temperment…anger….puppet…neocon…warmonger…war-obsessed…unstable…shoot from the hip….Yosemite Sam…Annie Oakley…
I dunno…but they need to be less “intellectual” and start hitting back hard…now. Palin is fair game, because she runs on the premise that she is a tough, rootin’ shootin’ woman who has whooped a bunch of “good ole boys”…
completely missing in ANY corporate media coverage about her selection
Apparel references aside, how would you describe McCain’s fronting Palin so like a Dime-Store prop? “Skirt” is a convenient and culturally recognized term for precisely what is going on here (you really have to want it to find the sexism in a term so universally recognized), so perhaps we can come up with a word or phrase to describe the McCain-Palin phenomena.
A blip on the radar that will fall as fast as it rose.
And how’s that shotgun wedding coming along?
Palin impugned Obama’s devotion to country. Her seconds demand deference and respect for her. Obama’s seconds should call out her seconds. It’s time to liven up the dueling field.
Hi Selise. I found an answer to my dilemma in Toobin’s appearance on Bill Maher. The McCain camp has merged questions about Palin’s family with questions about her credentials and rolled it into one big package of victimhood. this is what I object to in a nutshell.
Here’s the video/article on c&l. apologies if this is a duplicate…
it’s time to start ignoring her. the dems gotta focus on gran’pa as they have been.
Christy is up 2 flights
Obama refered to Annie Oakley thing in the primaries. Best not to go there
But it is a good attack on McCain because he is sexist and accusing him of “hiding behind her skirts” is certain to fire him up. When he gets fired up, he calls women “c*nts” and, if they are in wheelchairs, he first raises his hand as if to smack them, thinks about it, then sends them careening into a wall.
Accuse of a sexist of hiding behind a skirt is good – it is sure to rile them and make them stoopid.
Obama needs to blast open McCain’s image by staying on the Bushco third term…that he can’t even stand up to the very people that tried to destroy him, and his family, in 2000.
Palin needs to be shown as what she is…a power hungry sarcastic fanatic who will fire anyone who gets in her way.
Yes. I just refreshed my disgust with McCain by watching the tape of him tearing down the POW representative in front of the POW/MIA senate committee on youtube.
He was appallingly insensitive and bellicose. I applaud the woman who stood up to him after being insulted. He was allowed to tear her down and insisted that he not be interrupted while accusing her of disrespecting all the fine powerful people who blow her off. Really really awful. Then he stomps out of the room. Very scary.
Further, if you define the job of President of the United States in non-sexist lingo, or ascribe non-sexist roles to the office, then what’s good for the goose….
Stand up and take as good as you give. Palin’s abuses of this double standard, while infuriating, shouldn’t be given gender deference. If she wants the job, she will have to take it. She should not be surprised when someone wants it, too, and neither should her party’s venerable flacks and toadies.
Democrats need to get up off the mat and slap the shit out of the Republican party.
so is “uppity nXXXXX”. but i don’t use that one either. for the same reasons.
i’m going to have to think about this one… i’m obviously not describing the issue, because the responses i’m getting back are missing my point. which means i’m not stating it well, because then while folks make take issue and disagree – at least we’d be talking about the same thing.
hope there will be another chance to have this conversation after i’ve given some more thought to it….

BT-You seem to have forgotten. Nooner called overs on her statement and said it didn’t mean what it said.
selise – are you equating your phrase (if it’s what I think it is) for shirt? Really
Pardon me – skirt…
Care to have a bench press competition? OK OK, I know, silly remark. What I mean by it is that many of you who are arguing against the “sexist” comment on skirts and McCain are OVER analyzing it.
It is effective against someone like McCain because it would infuriate him. Infuriating him is a good thing because when he is furious (doesn’t really take much) he says and does stupid, unattractive, unacceptable things.
He has an ego and making the skirt comment digs directly into it, just as comments about Palin eclipsing McCain (Who’s running for President here? Him or her?). McCain is a perfect and easy target.
If you want to rile someone up, the most effective way is to attack their personal weak points. One of McCain’s is his personal ego and his sexism, which is of a piece.
skirt -not shirt. but, yes, qualitatively i am.
like i said though, i’m going to have to think about how to explain this because i’m obviously doing a lousy job.
which is all the more infuriating for having had to put up with multiple claims here that somehow by not liking hillary clinton the inner misogynist was showing.
that might make sense if mccain was here to read what was being said. but he’s not and i am.
You just knew it was coming, didn’t you? This morning I saw a McCain/Palin bumper sticker reading: “Vote for the Hot Chick”. If she had larger breasts Obama/Biden would be eliminated in a landslide.
Obama should probably change his ad to: “They know you are stupid.” It’s enough to make one physically ill.
yeah. keating 5. not alot. just a tweak. it’ll get coverage. after he said how since vietna he hasn’t belonged to himself he’s belionged to his country or whatever he said. was his involvement with keating in teh service of country? he might have to alter the narrative, and especially the timeline, of his transforming moment.
You were right the first time. Your point is lost in trying to define terms and equate them with history.
There is no equivalence.
i don’t think they have to show palin to be anything.
Well, sure, he isn’t here and never will be, but the headline I did see that made the same statement (can’t recall where I saw it) WOULD rile him. Comments like that spread around. Whisper campaigns can and do work if done properly.
I am also referring to third parties attacking McCain and Palin in ways that the Obama campaign wouldn’t (mainly because they want to lose by playing the same old losing Demcrap “strategy” of “being above the fray”). They will take punch after punch, reply with facts and reason, and get their ass handed to them AGAIN.
They are blowing it hard. You do NOT start every attack on McInsane by prefacing with, “Now, we all respect his service…blah blah” (note: I do NOT respect him OR his service. I totally dismiss it and disdain his “service”). You do not preface an attack on Palin with “She’s tough, smart, capable, competent, a good mother, blah blah”. You simply attack and repeat repeat repeat. Biden is incapable of this. Obama is incapable of this (so it seems) and the Dems in general are incapable of this. Hence, they lose, lose, lose again, and again, and again.
No, she said she didn’t mean it was over. She didn’t take that other part back.
If he has belonged to something greater than himself why does he constantly refer to being a POW is that something greater than himself> He refers to “his decision” to stay in captivity – if he had accepted he could have very well been brought up on charges.
Language filters? Language filters with remarkably arbitrary settings, I see.
I think it’s time for me to move along.
Yeah, it’s truly deplorable when the owner of a blog decides that comments containing certain words like the “N” word and the “C” word should be blocked from the comments thread. How dare she! After all, isn’t it everyone’s inalienable right to let loose their inner racist or sexist anonymously? /s
not history newt.
i get that we’re arguing over two different things. i will try to do a better job after giving it some thought. you may disagree with me afterwards but at least then we will be actually disagreeing rather than talking past each other.
i don’t know who you are aguing with, but it’s not me.
completely agree with the above.
That IS perfect. That is exactly the position Obama-Biden need. It would be great to have this as an ad…With the women telling their own stories.
Calls out Palin’s inconsistent position on birth rights.
Her life is an illustration of women’s choice.
BT,
Great post. This would make a great full page ad in the McClatchy papers…Rick davis better not pull the Dems whine out…He’ll be skunked if he does.
I left this at emptywheel’s place, but it seems apropos here too.
I think an effective ad for the Obama campaign would be cuts of Perino, McClellan, etc. standing at the podium saying they “will not answer that question” (there are millions of clip of that being said, in hundreds of ways…) cut in with Rick Davis on Fox last Sunday, defending Keeping Sarah Palin under wraps and refusing to let her be interviewed until the press treats here with “the RESPECT AND DEFERENCE” she requires.
To me, that would illustrate most easily how electing the republican ticket would NOT be CHANGE, “Coming” or otherwise. Same bullshit, different day.

Ignoring Palin is definitely the tactic I would take. She has no effect on the campaign if she is invisible. The more Democrats talk about her the more they play into the new McLame playbook of making the election not about him. I would even cancel the VP debate. If the only recognition she gets is preaching to the choir, then her candidacy becomes marginalized.
Also, picking Palin in the first place is the most sexist political move I have ever seen, assuming that women vote with their vagina’s instead of their brains.
….. oooh! ooooh! remember to include Sen. McCain’s painfully long pause when asked about birth control vs. viagra in terms of health-care coverage.
Unfortunately, you or anyone who thinks that this election is going to be decided by the issues is delirious. Democrats my get the result they want but American politics (especially presidential politics) has been reduced to as base a personality contest as your high school prom king and queen. Dems have a distinct advantage at the top of the ticket, keep the attention focused there.
