I guess if you cannot do FoxNews you might as well do Charles Gibson.
Oh, wait, that didn’t come out quite right.
The McCain campaign and Palin have deigned to do her first interview outside of a quicky with People Magazine. And if that’s the case why not do the interview with they guy who so completely botched the Democratic Debate last Spring.
Maybe Charley and Palin can talk about how $200,000 a year is a typical-middle class income? Maybe he’ll ask questions about her patriotism? Maybe he’ll dwell on all the gossip? And I hope she passes that baby around in a flag-draped diaper or he’ll have a fit.
Aw, Who am I kidding? — it’s going to be softballs and soft-lighting. Maybe he can dig out the Barbara Walters questions?
The McCain Campaign itself proclaimed no press interviews with Palin until the press were deferential enough. And nobody is more deferential to Right-Wing talking points than Charles Gibson.
Josh Marshall found the tell in just how wretched this interview will be:
"Palin will sit down for multiple interviews with Gibson in Alaska over two days, most likely Thursday and Friday, said McCain adviser Mark Salter."
Political interviews are never done like this. Because it makes the questioning entirely at the discretion of the person being interviewed and their handlers. The interviewer has to be on their best behavior, at least until the last of the ‘multiple interviews’ because otherwise the subsequent sittings just won’t happen. For a political journalist to agree to such terms amounts to a form of self-gelding. The only interviews that are done this way are lifestyle and celebrity interviews. And it’s pretty clear that that is what this will be.
We can all imagine McCain watching creepily as Gibson kisses Palin’s ass.
So many reasons to barf early in the morning.

Hey!
Remind me not to watch. Oh wait. I don’t own a TV!
The down side is that your “news” doesn’t directly travel, the up side is that your “news” doesn’t directly travel.
Y’all do good work monitoring the dreck, but then what would happen if no one did?
So, do you think Charley will ask her about her ‘Jesus Camp’ church?
Naaahhh.
I’m sure Charley will get a bump in pay grade for landing the new found “access”. Funny though, if he were to pull a “Maliki” and ask some really tough questions, and get booted out of the interview series midway it would be a much bigger and revealing story. Like real journalism.
Like for starters, “do you plan to release your IRS statements, so your child deductions can be made public? You know its a federal crime to falsify child dependency?”
Charley and Palin can talk about how $200,000 a year is a typical-middle class income?
Stop it! Two degreed working professionals with kids, child care, college, house, cars, etc. hardly equate to Bill Gates or T. Boone Pickens. Even Obama thinks that bracket deserves some sort of a tax cut. Your comment is as ridiculous as McCain’s 4 million a year is middle class. Just what Obama doesn’t need is fuel for the fire that Obama is going to raise your taxes.
Gibson interviewing Palin will be the realization of the “bridge to nowhere.” For them to score the first interview, you know they had to promise it to be a flattering softball affair or they would never have gotten their snow shoe in the door.
You think the gibson interview is going be bad?
I finally got what amounted to eight hours of sleep last night (vs. the usual 3-4) and woke to learn the following:
The nytimes is labeling Olbermann “incendiary”; the republics throw a hissy fit; and nbc/msnbc pees its collective pants and decides to muzzle him.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09…..nted=print
Forget barfing………I’m gonna go look for a sharp razor blade. :-(
I wonder if we will get to see David Gregory dancing on stage with McCain and Palin and singing, “koom-ba-ya?”
Hi
WaPo has that MSNBC canned Olbermann and Tweety.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/…..id=topnews
I don’t think we should let this go. We need to let MSNBC know that we’ll tune into CNN en masse rather than watch David Gregory.
Greta “I vant to be alone” Palin on Good Morning America with Charles Gibson? Oooh, I can’t wait.
McCain’s entire strategy had been to attack Obama for his inexperience in foreign policy matters AND for his rise to what McCain referred to as “Celebrity Status” – with the media referring to him as a “Rock Star.” He did so stating that for these reasons, Obama should not become President.
So he picks a running mate with ZERO knowledge of matters related to foreign policy AND elevates her to “Celebrity Status” – as the media begins referring to her as a “Rock Star.”
WTF?
Something tells me there’ll be a post up later today with that very thought in mind. *g*
If they muzzle Keith (and, in turn, Rachel), I’ve about decided to stop watching *any* of them……and that includes C-Span. They have all become worse than useless.
So the David Rockefeller Network (NBC/MSNBC) has ironically become too liberal? I’m sure Rockefeller hates Olbermann and would love to get him canned – but the ratings and the mood of the country continue to swing in Olbermann’s direction. I can assure you it was Rockefeller who personally begged Brokaw to come back out of retirement to carry the Republican’s water and overshadow the likes of Olbermann. Brokaw’s only job right now (for the Globalist/CFR contingent who actually run this country) is to get McCain elected.
AIP Vice Chairman of the AIP, Dexter Clark reveals that:
Palin was mayor of Wasilla from 1996-2002. But does she still agree with any other parts of the troubling AIP platform?
Since McCain never vetted Palin before putting her on the ticket, it’s now time for her to vetted in the public eye and answer some questions for the American people. Has Sarah Palin, as the officer of the AIP claims, ever been a member of the AIP? Does she believe that Alaskan citizens are entitled to a vote on secession? Does she agree with any stances in the AIP platform?
That a candidate for Vice-President may be affiliated with such a fringe group would be unfathomable, until we remember that, as Christopher Hayes at The Nation reminds us, Palin is no stranger to fringe politics. Pat Buchanan himself beamed at her VP announcement, stating
Good morning, pups. It’s [gag] Kristol, Cohen and Krugman today. In “A Heartbeat Away” that odious moron Kristol asks and answers his own question: Should voters be alarmed by a relatively young or inexperienced vice-presidential candidate? No. Me? I’m beyond alarmed. Horrified is closer to the mark, but doesn’t quite fit… Mr. Cohen writes about “Real Wars and the U. S. Culture War.” He says the surge in the culture wars of U.S. politics has come at the expense of debate of two real wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Which is precisely what was planned. Mr. Krugman, in “The Power of De,” says the attempt to contain the fallout from the financial crisis is a fight the feds seem to be losing.

The coffee and tea are ready, and the biscuits are out of the oven. And, given what Attaturk says above, I’m sure that Gwen Ifill is having all her questions vetted by Palin’s handlers… I’m starting to get a VERY bad feeling about all this… Have as good a day as you can.
Hope you’re right, and that it goes viral.
The only reason she’s on the ticket is to gin up the “culture wars” again. They’ll do anything in their power to avoid talking about real issues.
I prefer to get my polling data here. Seems there is a path to 60 Senate seats…
I like that a lot, Marion, but it is from August 22nd. Wonder how it’s moved.
“I’m beyond alarmed.” Terrified was thwe worsd I used the day her selectionw as announced. I feel the same way, if not more so now. That’s no exaggeration. I’m terrified of the prospect of her a heartbeat away.
OOOPS, wrong linky. Today they still have Obama taking it. I’ll go fix my bookmarks now…
Barf early and barf often
This election season is getting hard to digest
Just starting?
I dunno. Their figuring of “likely voters” leads them to believe that “these trends suggest that the Republican ticket has the potential for a significant turnout advantage on Election Day, but that it appears to be very dependent on the election environment and is by no means certain.”
Could be, but I don’t think so. It was accepted that a high turnout would benefit Kerry in 2004 and alot of Jesus Freaks turned out. But I think Barack will get a bigger turnout than Kerry. A “significant” advantage for McCain. I doubt it. Seems that wasn’t so long ago when polls came out on Monday. These daily tracking polls are kinda ridiculous it seems to me. If Obama blows one of the debates, and he is very capable of it, it’ll be very difficult.
Thanks. Better than Josh’s news.
anybody see Palin’s Alaska debate on c-span last night? I only saw some. She did fine from what I saw.
Doesn’t likely voters discount the youth vote and newly registered voters? One of the questions to determine who is a likely voter is did you vote last time.
Did you see the holy Sarah in all of her glory?
Saw an article, 9/21/04. Said Bush’s lead was in mid-single digits and some polls had higher. Kerry barely lost. This election is verrrrry interesting.
Here’s a must see on what the registrar sent out to students at Virginia Tech.
You start bringing her religious beliefs into this – no matter how bizzare – and some people will believe that you’re attacking religion as a whole. Alot of people feel that if she wants to believe this stuiff, fine with me, that’s her privilege. I don’t think the religious angle will hurt her at all.
Saw that. Man, VA is really important and they know it.
I really had hoped that the days of these cretins creating their own reality were over. The USA Today/Gallup numbers, when coupled with Olbermann and Matthews getting sh*tcanned and Gibson getting the softball job tell me that the reality based community is still forced into reaction mode.
This.will.not.be.easy.
good morning.
bfl, she sure doesn’t come of as a crazy person, so if we were expecting a nutjob to debate Biden, we’re wrong.
imo we better not underestimate this woman, she’s dangerous.
Gibson is a fluffer for the Republican Party. Rich, white, priviledged, pampered and phony he knows the status quo has been very good to him. He won’t be tossing softballs he will be tossing marshmallows.
I’ve been shouting about how dangerous she is ever since finding out a little about her right after the nomination. Seems like Ds have missed the vote again.
An encounter with the straight talkers.
All roads lede to Rove.
Did anyone get this DVD Obsession that TheraP was talking about?
NBC is putting it’s money and personnel 100% behind McSFB, joining ABC and Fox. What’s surprising about that?
Elliott, never underestimate the enemy. They’ll slit your throat while telling you what a fine person you are.
I’m alarmed, too, but 3 things in our favor:
-The polls always reflect ‘likely voters’ and thus the newly registered aren’t considered
-Are they polling those w/o landline phones? I have a feeling they’re missing a huge portion of the young people.
-The electoral map still looks good.
Haing trouible with ‘reply”.
This is re: Solai @ 45. It looks good. Rather be in our shoes than theirs. Before we start wigging out, think two weeks ago, didn’t you think this electionwould be close? One week agao? Today? For me, the answer to all three is yes. Look it’s gonna be a late night. Barack has to pretty much keep all the Kerry states and peel off FL or Ohio or VA & CO. I don’t think he does it with just VA. FL will be tough. Anti-gay ballot referendum, Palin. The JF’s will be out.
If only the all viewers of corporate media could understand the hopelessness of depending on the ‘free’ press to support democracy. The fourth estate is dead..it is now the fourth reich
In other news, to clarify and rebut all the lies supposedly told by Dick Cheney, Alberto Gonzales will interview him in a three part series to be aired in it’s entirety on Faux News twice daily during the month of October.
We had better pray it is not a close race…if McStupid is within close range it’s all over for Dems. A close race is for sure a stolen race..look back to 2000 and 2004.
Good morning all,
I sure hope that Gibson brings those glasses that he puts on the end of his nose so he can read all the McShame talking points. The polls are irrelevant and meaningless. Things won’t start to take shape until the debates. Just a couple of thoughts.
The MSM has no interests in serving the common good, only in serving the interests of the corporation. The corporate MSM is NOT the 4th Estate. The last refuge of the 4th Estate is found on the internet.
and they said over and over how they had learnt their lesson after not asking the hard questions in the run-up to the Iraq war. Bullshit.
After that debate with Gibson, we stopped turning on abc. Never looked back!
No doubt NBC was catching a lot of heat from the McCain campaign and the Republican Party. They have been complaining very recently on media “bias.” They already have their own propaganda network but will not be satisfied until ALL media serves their interests. Kind of like Roves plan for a one party nation.
Can the U.S. actually be reformed through the electoral process when their are so many deep seated systemic problems in the media, political and governmental institutions? Despite the last 8 years of scandal, corruption and malfeasance the polls are showing a real horse race or even with McCain in the lead. It’s beginning to feel like Americans are being played once again. Are Americans that easily manipulated or are they just plain ignorant?
Does nothing start to appear as the Mad Hatters Tea Party. If it doesn’t, it is beyond the Pale, and is probably not worth the resurrection costs. By accepting the collapse of the system, it will bring down the establishment, both wings. They do not have the where-with-all to sustain their phantasy. It will cause hardships for all other, but it will be themselves that are eliminated, so bankrupt is their ideology. In the long run, that is the only way that what was good, will be salvaged. But the current ideology must be eliminated to its very root. Always there is a price to be paid for good. What is necessary is to work and develop the architects and engineers necessary to reconstruct an alternative edifice to rebuild the culture after the fall.
Loo Hoo @ 34, has anyone checked to see whether this is accurate? Losing scholarships and no longer qualifying as a dependent sound like potential exaggerations.
Never mind, I answered my own question. Hardly surprising that they’re resorting to the usual lies and intimidation.

It’s just part of the advertising roll-out for the new production. Here, let me explain.
