Chris Matthews show is all Repubs…starts with the convention, last part to be on Palin. Disconnect in the Convention themes, “Orwellian.” We’ll see. Good Morning. Silence on Bush = President! Distancing themselves from themselves.
I hear the sos on WJ about how Obama’s a secret Muslim and how his judgement is bad because he didn’t pick a veep with as many votes as he had.
Good morning Elliott.
Morning
pretty pathetic isn’t it, they’ve scooted Bush off to the side. I hope that doesn’t prompt him to do something dramatic just for attention. He’s not gonna want to go quietly into that good night.
eCAHN, there sure seems a concerted effort to keep that lie floating around.
morning everyone, the following is going to be one of the email pushes from the republican side, giving half truths as facts and lies as gospel, thrown in are things that are true to make it seem like the entire piece is unbiased
gonna need to push back against things like this, sorry for the long post but there is no link to this, just a cut and paste available;

CAPITAL GAINS TAX
MCCAIN 0% on home sales up to $500,000 per home (couples). McCain does not propose any change in existing home sales income tax.
OBAMA 28% on profit from ALL home sales. (How does this affect you? If you sell your home and make a profit, you will pay 28% of your gain on taxes. If you are heading toward retirement and would like to down-size your home or move into a retirement community, 28% of the money you make from your home will go to taxes. This proposal will adversely affect the elderly who are counting on the income from their homes as part of their retirement income.)
DIVIDEND TAX
MCCAIN 15% (no change)
OBAMA 39.6% - (How will this affect you? If you have any money invested in stock market, IRA, mutual funds, college funds, life insurance, retirement accounts, or anything that pays or reinvests dividends, you will now be paying nearly 40% of the money earned on taxes if Obama becomes president. The experts predict that ‘Higher tax rates on dividends and capital gains would crash the stock market, yet do absolutely nothing to cut the deficit.’)

INHERITANCE TAX
MCCAIN - 0% (No change, Bush repealed this tax)
OBAMA Restore the inheritance tax
Many families have lost businesses, farms, ranches, and homes that have been in their families for generations because they could not afford the inheritance tax. Those willing their assets to loved ones will only lose them to these taxes.
NEW TAXES PROPOSED BY OBAMA
New government taxes proposed on homes that are more than 2400 square feet.
New gasoline taxes (as if gas weren’t high enough already)
New taxes on natural resources consumption (heating gas, water, electricity)
New taxes on retirement accounts, and last but not least….
New taxes to pay for socialized medicine so we can receive the same level of medical care as other third-world countries!!!

Yeah. I wonder how deliberately planned it is. I mean do they bother to recruit people to keep punching the digits on their phone until they get into WJ, which is really an effort. Or do they just send emails.
Using Norma Rae: I hope Sally Fields will proclaim Palin is no Norma Rae. Makes me puke. My favorite actor and one of my favorites movies. Yuk
those emails are downright depressing perris.
eCAHN, the other morning a woman called in complaining about WJ not answering the Republican lines, and I swear she said she had 60 or 70 people trying!
Well, that answers my Q. Thanks. As I suspected.
Marion posted Frank Rich’s column this morning, to read while we eat our blueberry pancakes:
And I think darkblack captures the essence.
Enough coffee and political depression for this morning. Off to the day’s plans. (Painting inside of the outhouse, for those who need a laugh.)
The Matthews panel predicting Palin may not at all face serious interviews; may try to go around the press. Contrast with others, VP candidates who were on the morning shows within a week of the nomination. Hide this woman.
Storm knocked out the sat dish (hopefully repaired M pm in time for KO and Maddow) but doesn’t sound like I’ve been missing anything on WJ. :-(
It’s interesting that the people who call in and complain about the other party using *their* lines usually seem to be republics. Paranoid much?
Eat your pancakes first, set down your coffee mug, and only then should you click on the link to darkblack.
You have been warned.
well, we can’t let them get away with that.
we’ll have to keep drilling on this.
Waccamaw, hope you get your dish back so you don’t miss Maddow!
Good morning Peterr, I should have given a spew warning there, to be sure.
(looking forward to your Book Salon this afternoon)
Regulars see the word “darkblack” on a link and know to put down their beverages. Visitors, on the other hand, may not be familiar with his work . . .
I’m looking forward to the book salon, too — though I’m a bit more focused right now on what I’ll be saying this morning.
See you (and everyone else) this afternoon!
Yeah, and BO is supposed to be on Keith’s.
Wrt the WJ, I guess the republics didn’t get the memo: It’s champagne with breakfast and whine with dinner.
I fixed it a little bit for pushback, will need to do research to add links this is just off the top of my head

I just listened to religious radio in the north country of Maine on the way to visit my bro.
There was a half an hour produced piece that was so outrageous I am in shock.
Highlights of the broadcast between two perky hosts and a black conservative from the 700 Club:
*Obama supports killing live children.
*Obama will ban religious programming.
*Obama has been endorsed by Castro, Ahmadinejad, Chavez.
*The Democrats are “evil” and “hate everything you and I hold sacred”.
I am fucking stunned. Radio Hutu has arrived.

How in the name of spit does one fight back against that sort of garbage? It’s like a broken sewer line that just keeps spewing out filth!

Salon has a Palin watch: when, oh, when?
Have a good morning…lovely start here in Austin, TX
Poor Sarah. After a week of campaigning, she’s pooped. Yep, she’ll be the same way if she becomes the next VP of the United States. A microphone will be shoved under her nose and she’ll be asked what her thoughts are on the Georgian/Russia conflict and she’ll say, “I can’t answer that right now. I went to a meeting this morning and I’m pooped. Gotta rest!”.
Spit.
Stuck in the “Fact-Based” Time Warp ???
That is so Pre-Orwellian.
It’s ALL ABOUT EMOTION, Boobella.
Hate, Fear, Gut-reaction - that’s the ticket to win.
A sizable portion of American citizens stopped being rational a long time ago.
When an adult has been exposed to enough fables (for example - Angel stories on TV) religious radio and religious TV shows, Christs among us (Rev.Moon), Fugitive Mormon Saints, … that part of the brain which employs logic and reason to navigate present and future reality atrophies.
That’s where we find ourselves today - Living in a Land of Make Believe - A Land of Haves, Hads, and Had-nots.
G’morning, everyone.
My congressional district list-serve has generated a heated, ongoing debate about whether/how to focus on the Palindrone. Some say by doing so, we are being sucked into the Repug distraction machine, which takes attention away from McBush’s inane blathering and whatever else it is that’s burbling away in the Rovian Cauldron.
They’ve made a real problem for us, haven’t they?! Palin is the shiniest object they’ve ever trotted out. She walks, she talks, she’s sassy and snide and doggone it, she’s just cute as a li’l ol’ button. (wink wink, nudge nudge)
Completely ignoring her would make infinite sense but for the fact that she’d be likely to ascend (?) to the presidency of the USA. Possibly before the end of the 2009-2013 term. But you know all of this.
So the game that’s afoot, it seems to me, is to figure out how to keep all focus on Sarah Palin routed directly through McBush. And then to follow up relentlessly every single time with the whole litany of reasons why the codger (by the way, did you know he was a POW?) is bad for America.
I just re-read this. Probably should delete it. Not saying well what I’m trying to get across here. Sarah Palin is e pluribus unum in the McBush list of egregious actions.
The Press, ‘media’ will not save this country, it’s owned lock stock and barrel by Republicans. We need to get over waiting for the fourth estate to come to the rescue..look back eight years. Street demonstrations are ineffective when you come to a tear gas, club fight with a plastic sign. The only safe and productive way to demonstrate is by ‘economic boycott’. When the Progressives learn this there may be some hope for America, until then nothing will change. The Republicans own the media, and police, and the military and so on. Who can’t see that?
Oh thanks! I’m updating the post with that.
I think Shrub, like a young child, has grown bored with the whole thing now that it’s coming to an end.

See, there’s part of the problem. No broad brush stroke really works. There are Republicans out there who are basically decent people. Not radical wingnuts. I know some of them and am aware of others.
In the best of all worlds (which this certainly is not), it’d be up to those Republicans to try to fix this. Yup, I’m serious. They’re being lumped into the wackadoodle collective. Their more moderate ideas are being lost in the sound and fury. They’re out there, in numbers enough to make a difference if they had a rallying place. Which reminds me that I heard virtual zip about the Ron Paul thingie during the RNC.

Yup, pretty much. But at this late date, what’re they supposed to do? Vote against McBush, I suppose, but what else? I think we need to be very careful not to label all Republicans creepoids. Bush Republicans, yes. All Republicans, no. We’re gonna need those moderates to say “Enough!” I reckon they can do that in splendid isolation, but it would be far better to extend a short-stemmed olive branch, I think, inviting them to consider at least a peripheral place in the big tent.
I think this is the absolute key to the whole thing right now. Americans, the Bush Republicans are playing you for gullible, shallow fools. They’re laughin’ at you even as they feed you poison.
we need to focus on McDOLT though he wants to be prez,he is the one that needs vetting NOW
me likey that approach…keep flipping them the facts…over and over and over…illustrate ALL THE LIES
My Aunt & Uncle hunt for food up here in Maine, but they can’t afford to stuff the heads to put on the wall, and they would not be appropriate as the VP of the United States! LOL Sarah Palin isn’t appropriate either, but unfortunately, the neocons of America see her as a shiny object and are currently drooling down their necks as they stare at her.
What is it with these people who kill these marvelous creatures so they can stare at their hides/heads on a wall? Make them feel manly an’ shit?
Force is the weapon of the weak.
the ’scrubbing fur picture’ is a good sign -
they are concerned about ‘the PTA Mom’ vote - and all the “ickiness” surrounding the fur industry
could mean they are already anxious about campaign ads (surrogates anyone ?) depicting drowning polar bears and wolves shot from helicopters
Mornin’ Elliot and Firedogs
Are they so poor they can’t afford to buy food?
I guess the Feds taking over trillions of dollars in mortgages and stuff isn’t worth discussing. Just another day in the life of the malfunctioning Bush administration.

Maybe the Fannie and Freddie story is just too haaarrd for the tiny talking head brain.
Maybe they think it doesn’t matter that the billions of shares of the two companies, held in the mutual funds of many of us, just went worthless, down from billions a year ago.
Maybe the repubs haven’t put out the spin points so they don’t know what they can say.
Republican John McCain pledged if elected president to appoint Democrats to his Cabinet, saying there’s nothing partisan about tackling the nation’s toughest problems.
”I don’t know how many, but I can tell you, with all due respect to previous administrations, it is not going to be a single … ‘Well we have a Democrat now.’ It’s going to be the best people in America,” the GOP presidential nominee told CBS’ ”Face the Nation,” in an interview taped Saturday that will be broadcast in full Sunday.
…
McCain’s comments come after he was believed to have closely considered Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, a former Democrat turned independent, as a possible running mate before ultimately choosing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a Republican.

The “women’s” vote used to be about issues… day care, health leave, health care, pay equity. Now, it’s about punishing women and dismantling their hard earned civil rights, and the right to birth control. The right has defined birth control as being abortion. Palin doesn’t believe that women or girls should have birth control. She believes every raped female who gets pregnant should have to carry the child to term. She believes that telling teenage girls about condoms is morally wrong, because it prevents them from getting pregnant, and not getting pregnant is wrong if you have sex at all. Sex is only for procreation. She believes that women who get pregnant responsibly are misinformed. She is against helping pregnant women in any way as well. She believes that even though women have a responsibility to get pregnant as much as they can, the children they give birth to are better off with their fathers, since their mothers must be busy passing laws preventing other women from not getting pregnant when they are practicing “abstinence.” I get it now!
