In the article they say that Sarah has a hard time “controlling” Bristol and that she tried to get her to get married before the convention and pregnancy announcement, but Bristol refused. Since the NE broke the John Edwards story, I don’t automatically pooh-pooh what they say. There is also a great Alaskan blog called Mudflats that has gobs of good Sarah reporting in it.

The police squashing of the RNC demonstrations shows how uber they have become. Complete impunity! The change we are seeking is reversing the status quo. If one had a carefully chronicled timeline (like the list) of the victories the Oligarchy has had in gaining carte blanche like no bankrupcy protection making sub prime debacle possible or FISA impunity it would be clear as well as Sarbanes repeal. The treasury door is open and the debt is on the working class.

I believe that most states have laws prescribing how state property shall be sold, traded, or otherwise disposed of. Auctions are required under certain circumstances in some states. I’ve not read or researched how it is in Alaska.

Allowing the Governor to advertise a plane for sale on eBay, then to sell the plane in a manner of her choosing—to a campaign contributor, as it happened (sure looks like a sweet deal)—seems extremely liberal, in a sense.

The real question should be was the sale a conflict of interest and or against state or federal law to sell state property to a contributor at the very least it shows a lack of proper discretion… Great chacter

It has been fascinating to watch the right-wing press lap up the anti-media nonsense put out by the McCain campaign’s Steve Schmidt regarding Sarah Palin. The latest is Jeffrey Bell, in the Weekly Standard, who makes the media’s attempt to find out just exactly who Palin is part of a seamless, anti-clerical cloak that goes all…the…way…back…to…the French Revolution:[…]

Maybe I’m getting old, maybe it’s that I’ve seen this act so often before, maybe it’s that the people I talk to when I go out on the road really are having a harder time paying for things like health care, gasoline and college tuition, but I’m finding the Republican attempts to derail the conversation from the actual state of the country really depressing and disgraceful this year. They practice Orwellian politics of the crudest sort. They are trying to sell a big lie–that the election is about the social issues of the 1960s, or Barack Obama’s patriotism or his eloquence, or the “angry left,” when it’s really about turning toward a more moderate path after the ideological radicalism and malfeasance of the past eight years.

I’m sure I’ll snap out my daze soon, but, don’t wake me yet…!

Corporations have been consolidating wealth and power in the hands of a few. Hostile takeovers and division selloffs further consolidate capital like hedge funds and the conglomerates like exxon, standard and shell oil.
Rolling up small and middle class businesses as Walmart like attacks occur, underselling the small business ubtil they fold then raising the price.
That political fallout shrinks the middle class.
Steady attack on consumer rights. Shoddy product produced by non union overseas has created a business plan that is not sustainable as the consumer has less disposable income.
Shrink the social safety net and force low income families into the military. Shrink welfare abd housing subsidies. Reduce the food stamp program by $50 billion dollars and giveaway to the farm sucidy of Big AG.
Move the housing debt ofrom the investyors to the taxpayers shoulders increasing unbearable burdens.
Transfering social programs from government to faith based organizations. Same with public schools.
Increase the profit for Big Pharma and Big Medical at the cost to family budgets.
Why are we not talking about the issues? You are still talking class and culture war…we lose that way. Disposable income is shrinking and worker productivity is increasing. Americans have to work more hours for less value. Now the Reperps have devalued dollars about 50% in 8 years. The national debt is skyrocketing. The economy is capital starved as more wealth is transferred to Middle East royalty.
THese are issues that need defining in the public forum.

This time she’s hissing about a “Clash of the Titans,” the premise of which is it’s delicious imagining the debate between Big Mama, as Bill’s male aides called Hillary Clinton, and “Hottie Granny,” as People magazine will doubtless dub Sarah Palin. I guess this crap is easier to churn out than a column that might address… what are those things called… oh, yeah — issues. Mr. Friedman gives us “Georgia On My Mind.” He says Barack Obama and John McCain need to focus, not on war, but on strengthening our capacity for innovation — our most important competitive advantage. Mr. Rich devotes his column to “Palin and McCain’s Shotgun Marriage” and says John McCain’s speed-dating of Sarah Palin reaffirmed that his decision-making process is impetuous and, in its Bush-like preference for gut instinct over facts, potentially reckless.
