Evening pups.

Hiya All!
Been busy. Repotted a bunch of orchids this evening then had to read around the toobz looking for news I might have missed today.
mary mcc! christine e!
how’s everyone doing tonight?
i miss the news box on the front page
AZ local news….
National Bank of Arizona will be taking over Silver Bank….
New billboard offering support for Mormon members when they leave the church
The Tohono O’odham Nation has banned humanitarian groups (which have been doing it for years) from putting out water to save the lives of immigrants who cross the desert…. the group of Human Boarders are fighting this ruling
John McCain said he will cut taxes to create jobs…..hmmmm can anyone explain that one to me?
Yeah. What happened to it? I looked for it this morning and found it gone. Also, “reply” is not working for me. Must be the Firefox upgrade.
“Jane Austen Book Club” on now, which I had not seen. Pretty interesting.
sorry, tech disabled a few things while working on the site. we hope to have the bells and whistles back (and hopefully some of the old ones too) when they get done working their techy magic.
Hi Suzanne!
Awesome help from you and RBG this week. Many thanks.
no problem, twas my pleasure to help out
I tried to read the book and just couldn’t do it. Is the movie any better? (I pressed reply hard enough that it seems to have finally taken.)
teddy found that the entire page has to load before the reply works. if you don’t find it working, if you type your response and when done, click the reply button, it usually works by then.
*sigh* i think it was teddy who figured that out
Question:
What is the US government doing to guarantee the safety of the inmates at Gitmo from Hurricane Ike?
Hey Gnome,
The movie is new for me… still watching. My personal favs: Persuasion, Emma…
Also if you refresh a page (update comments) while you are writing a reply comment, the person you are replying is removed….. the text sometimes stays put …..
i’ve never heard anything from the g’men about what they are doing down in gitmo during any hurricane other than generic responses to that question.
its one that needs to be asked and asked and asked until a real answer is given. they are in our custody and we are responsible for them while they are.
yeah- i don’t refresh when responding to a comment - when i submit it, the new comments show up automatically
I am at my very own home. I’ll be going to NYC next week for vacation.
Tell me this Maladministration hasn’t played loose and fast with the rules… NYT
Those evil F*cks timed it to rain down on the next Administration…
Wow. What a good question. I was just looking at the current projected path and saw that it is now expected to head in the Gulf with NOLA smack dab in the middle of it. There is still a lot of time for it to change direction only slightly and hit Houston or Mobile.
I’m in my happy place right now.
Southern Lights–Doa
I intend to be fully moved out at some point before their full length album of the same name comes out. For now? Their new single. *sways happily to the guitar and sweet vocals*
‘Loooooove…Soft as an easy chair…’
;>)
Watching the weather path of the storm and it looks like it will go directly over Cuba…. from one end to the other….. a CAT 4 …… From what we can see these inmates are in dog kennels chain link cages with tarps……
John McCain said he will cut taxes to create jobs…..hmmmm can anyone explain that one to me?
That’s what Reagan, Bush I and Dubya did. Works good right? Its Trickle Down economics. In theory, the rich create jobs b/c they get richer from tax breaks. They don’t create jobs though. They hoarde the money, buy oil stocks or build businesses that create jobs in China.
In trickle down, once all the money gets vacuumed up to the top, the economy collapses b/c the money never makes it back down.
woohoo - gonna meet up with any pups while in nyc? vacations are a wonderful thang.
How utterly convenient it would be if the ‘bad guys/evil doers’ (most appear to be poor fools sold out by angry folks) were to swept away by a hurricane?! Imagine how that would ease Bushy’s burden.
fresh as the morning air
fuck
They will have a prayer breakfast.
Evening, all-
Taking the deep breath between Gustav and Ike. Damn these pinwheel storms! Dr. Dick may yet convince me to move to Montana.
Hi Gnome!
god smiting his almighty judgment upon them
Gitmo is on the southern eastern end of the island…… this area will be hit with the full force of the storm first …..
I found a summary of John McCain’s campaign speech on the internets.
Must see.
hey ron d - gotta remember, montana has that slippery white stuff in the winters
Yes. My sister and brother just got back into New Orleans today. They stayed at my parents’ house in Mississippi where they all sat in frustration for a week. Now this. Even if it doesn’t hit the stress is horrid. My sister said she just cannot think about it right now.
Evening Ron!
Darkblack - you have scarred my brain. No amount of bleach will help :-(
My own personal neo-con swears that it was Jamie Gorelick&Clinton who allowed the loosening of standards that permitted Freddie/Fannie to buy all these crapola loans…..I’ve tried to research it on internet(s) and can’t find any such proof. Anyone know?
Been thinking that BushCo has been creating a lot of booby traps all over the place …. all these yaahoos have been keeping their fingers in all the leaks in the damn and on January 2009 they will just walk away…….. AND then blame Democrats for all the issues…….
We’ll have to use the late October surprise then, Gnome.
;>)
Fuck. I’m really not happy with the Lumpkin campaign tonight. They actually talked up Palin’s “opposition” to earmarks to go after Lil’ Duncan. I guess they think the whole “Earmarks are bad!” schtick is going to play in an area that had a big fan of earmarks as its rep for more than twenty years, who didn’t even have to acknowledge his opponents’ existence, barely advertise, and still get more than 60% of the vote.
yeap - i agree and think we are in for a very bumpy 2009 when obama takes to the oval office
It was started then but it was Phil Graham - the consultant for McBush campaign…. who penned most of the kill the regulations bills…..
Oh, to get a better picture of why I’m pissed, because my rant was probably pretty jumbled, here’s the fucking press release. If he keeps up with this bullshit, fuck it, one Republican’s the same as another.
Hi pups!
Repeal of the Glass-Steagall act allowed banks, investment brokerage and insurance co’s to mix it up. IIRC, It was a Clinton era thing.
Hi, Suzanne and everybody up late! I just read something deeply disturbing. So let me understand: 2 men charged with targeting police in St Paul, zero charged with targeting presidential candidate in Denver.
Damn….. SNL is a repeat……
blerg - duncun hunter - shrudder
i so want this guy unemployed and indicted.
what’s up doc?
And good ol’ Bubba signed it, just like he signed the Telecommunications Act, and a whole lot of other stupid shit that’s fucked up our country.
Thanks, katy…..I’ll go research in that direction. Not that my neo-con twin will be persuaded, but that I’d like to understand this mess a bit better.
OMG….
Duncan’ll be retired soon enough, only question is will it be his son who gets his seat, or Lumpkin. And now it looks like Lumpkin’s trying to latch onto McCain’s McMaverickyness, which has me pissed.
yeap - fuckers *spitting*
eewww eewwww eeewwww
i’m still waiting for the second part :)
Yep….. he was our best Republican President we have had in decades…..
Two of many outstanding people I have had the pleasure of corresponding with since I started running my yap here.
hey suz - thanks for tonight’s entertainment. How life on the lovely Oregon Coast?
It’s a wild party, Doc.
;>)
That’s why I say Clinton was the best Republican President we ever had. He gave big gifts legislatively to Corporations but he made them pay taxes so the economy stayed humming.
Hi Neuro late for the toonz but was busy making sure Kirk’s post is spreading on the net. Great cartoon as always Suz(:>))
Oh I didn’t forget to digg this post Did YOU!! DIGG IT!!!
it has been a blustery day on the coast. i’m enjoying the weather - it certainly is not boring. the people up here are so nice and the pace of life is a lot slower since the tourists tend to stay away after labor day.
Oh, Busted, such the truth!
Suz, where did you end up in Oregon?
hey nahant - how was that dinner?
Our friend DarkBlack managed to distill John McCains election strategy down to one picture.
I liked it so much I put the link on my front page.
in the newport area temporarily at a vacation rental while i sort out where my where is gonna be.
Aren’t we all? Only problem is, if we head down that road, we’d have to build new prisons to house all the corrupt Republicans. That, and Depends might become a hard to find item, with all the constant pissing in their pants the Democrats in Congress would undoubtedly be doing the whole time.
dayam, if i had any money, i would buy stock in depends *g*
Can’t stand it….. Tina Fey really does look like Palin…… we will need to see what they do with that……
Good one!
been keeping busy i see, db. nice, very nice (wicked evil grin)
At least Tina Fey probably wouldn’t shoot & gut you for a rave review. Cheney is such a wimp!
Cocktail has a hilarious side effect.
Yeppers, the Surge was a smashing success…
Btw… Why The Surge Hasn’t Worked…
Oooh. Nice. Take yer time. Sorting is important stuff. I am still trying to figure out what I’m gonna be when I grow up.
Ok….. heading off to bed….. Oh damn…. need to put laundry up first before I can find the sheets……
i wonder if the fact is it an island is part of the reason so much of the news of the weird comes from the uk
g’nite katymine
Thank you, Margot. That one took a few revisions - Uncooperative models, you see.
…
Well, Suzanne, there’s no shortage of inspiration lately.
;>)
Man kills wife after she makes a joke about nuts.
Goodnight katymine.
One of the primary causes of the great depression was the housing of investments and banks under the same roof. People were using overvalued RCA stock (the dotcom of the era) as collateral for loans to buy other stocks on slim margins. After the bust, a regulatory firewall was built between banks and brokerages. Phil Gramm, was part of a $20 million lobbying effort that remove these barriers. Some good info is here, but surely you know as far as wingnuts are concerned, everything bad that happens is Bills fault. Hell, even his parents named him Bill because he was born at the end of the month.
Oilfield truckdrivers have absolutely no business knowing about this shit.
sleep well, katymine!
I don’t know, that might have some merit, except for Florida, a state so fucked up it has its own Fark tag.
Read somewhere (but didn’t take the time to verify) that the next in line is named “Karina”.
If true, we have what seems to be commonly called a WTF moment. Katrina / Karina
PTSD for anyone who survived the first one. :-(
*Please inform if I’m incorrect on the name*
You did?
And what a nice thing to say…Thank you, Busted.
;)
Nope it is just the British way of life!
There are a string of towns along the north coast of Crete that are big party towns…. on is the old fishing village that I used to live in 30 years ago and now morphed into a God awful tourist party hot spot……
Jamie Gorelick’s name has come up in my reading only a couple of times. Once was in Glenn Greenwald column at Salon and in connection with her work on behalf of the telecom corps to get them retroactive immunity. Another blamed her for 9/11.

Homicide investigators make bizarre discovery in Japan.
kyle per the official list
That is not very funny. Those of us with allergies know how serious it can be. She had an allergic reaction that fortunately seems to have only swelled her face. It could have swelled her throat shut.
vurp
can someone explain the DB McCrazy picture to me, I don’t get the reference(s)…just part of my cultural illiteracy, I guess :)
