Because when I was a student at Univ. of Okla. — 30 years ago — robberies skyrocketed during home Sooner games. He manages nearly destroy his hometown(the country) and then he runs off to Alaska where the oil companies pay everyone so they can rape the land. Then his family (the electorate) deserts him and goes back to try to save Springfield. And Homer has his epiphany where he realizes it is not about him and to save his family (the electorate) he has to save Springfield (the country).
