Here is what describes the game RAPO:

Rapo
This is a game in which a woman (White) and a man (Black) are the main players. It can be played with varying degrees of intensity.

First-degree Rapo involves White mildly flirting with Black, signalling she is available and interested. Once he’s committed himself to the pursuit, the game is over and White has won. The payoff is being found attractive.

In second-degree Rapo, the payoff comes not from the compliment, but from the enjoyment of rejecting Black’s advances (”Buzz off Buster”). White leads him into a much more serious commitment, and enjoys watching his discomfort at being rejected.

Third-degree Rapo ends in a false accusation of rape. White leads Black into a compromising physical position before claiming criminal assault or permanent psychological damage. She usually involves a number of other players at this stage.

Black is often a willing participant in these transactions, playing a version of another of Berne’s games – Kick me. The aim of Kick Me is to prove your misfortunes are greater than anybody else’s, and thus gain sympathy. It’s a type of inverse-pride at being the worst-off.

McCain’s father and grandfather were four star generals which means they excelled in military school and John was fifth from the bottom of his class in Annapolis. His otherwise unlikely acceptance at this prestigious school is directly attributable to his fathers rank and history in combat. This isn’t smack, just the rules of entrance. Because of his educational career McCain would have been considered unfit for promising promotions and would not have had a very successful career in the military. I would surmise that his family was also disappointed in him.

Given these seemingly disparate facts I have the notion that if McCain had agreed to leave capture, when offered, his own company would have finished him off themselves or his father might have killed him with his bare hands. I believe the wrath of an utterly humiliated, career compromised, second generation, four star general, father, during war time is not something one might live through. As I always heard growing up, “War is hell” (My father, may he RIP, the Army pilot, 1928-1989).

My argument is that Johns “heroic” act of refusing release was probably a choice between leaving and dieing by said friendly fire or staying put and perhaps staying alive. With a well respected general as a father McCain might, thankfully, have been spared spawnicide and arrived home as a dead hero. Shot down during combat. Maybe lost at sea.

McCain’s take on his “honorable” decision to remain in the face of torture just reeks of b.s. and over compensation for the actual circumstances.
