Sanity!
At this point I would encourage you all to Digg, if we had a Digg button
nahant knows how to digg without a button, I don’t
nahant, are you out there?
Suzanne!
Sanity!
Rumored to be on the comeback after the recent unpleasantness in St. Paul.
I got the trollop whose cash is dear to me….
g’evening pups
shovels are so much easier than buttons…
Suz! Never can get too much Beatles…! 8-)
ya’ll let me know when to press the new fangled brain bleach dispenser button – the triple strength stuff i ordered for the mcsame-palin love fest finally came in.
i know i’m feeling rather slimy after watching that mess in the twin cities.
Know why he’s gonna lose? He asked for LIVES in service, and promised that no MONEY would be spent. Wars are free don’t you know?
His speech tonight can be boiled down to this.
Country First? In Lives, Yes. In Money, No.
driftglass has a torque on this take…
Hi Everyone
Can’t get FDL to load on my computer. On my bberry
PC and no reason why
katy, had some wonky loading for a while but it seems to have calmed down. did you reboot and try again? what kinda browser you running? ie? ff?
katymine – clear your caches and relaunch your browser. That should fix you up.
Crazy eyed Red neck lady is going to be a gift, trust me.
Let the Media arseholes dig, give ‘em time.
McCain is going to regret that decision every night until he doesn’t wake up again.
Her family can be proud of her, not many people can say they were actually a candidate for the Vice Presidency.
Isn’t that right Mr. Quayle and Mrs Ferramo?
/s
OK, let’s try something here. Maybe this will enable us to DIGG this post.
After seeing a clip of Biden on the Today Show this AM, where he was so calm and collected while focusing on issues, this analogy hit me (ouch!):
This week was like letting the kids jump around on the bed for a bit before bedtime. Once they used up their energy, the adults come to tuck them in. Sweet dreams, children…
The Rebubs have spent the last few days jumping mad. Obama and Biden can now put them to bed.
Ferraro, CRS.
LOL!
da digg worked neuro.. thanks
Ah, so has the Digg Button been crashing the server again? I’ll miss it, but it would be great to be able to get to FDL more often and more quickly!
Hi, all! Hi, Suz. That’s some fancy decoder ring and brain-bleach action, there! Is that where the quarters from the swear jar ended up?
I’m off to bed. Busy, busy, busy day tomorrow.
Wish I had more time to hang with all y’all, but there it is. Miss ya!
FunnyD
Somebody please try Digging and see if the roundabout method works, since the Digg button is temporarily unavailable
Let us know if you are able to register a Digg
i think the kids need a time out for lying
hey funny d – swear jar is in storage (innocent look)
thanks for stopping by and sleep well
What’s on your mind tonight?
Math. 600 arrests… $50M spent on the mercenaries…..
ok – got it. Even if a defendant only takes a misdemeanor and a small fine, courts costs are gonna be a BITCH!
$83,333.33 each.
that’ll learn ‘em.
Hi Suz, Katy… how are you all this fine evening? Katy, coming back out to AZ later this fall… woohoo!
truth justice and the corporate way don’t come cheap yanno (/s)
Worked for me.
hey jofish
Good mornin’, pups -
If you’ve not read this yet, it’s unfortunate it won’t appear in the dead tree addition.
A clear articulation of probable reactions from citizens of the Lake to palin’s speech:

The comments are almost uniformly excellent (imho). *g*
Miss you too, FunnyD.
Alright kids, I have a date with THUD.
Gnite.
oh, would somebody PLEEEZE tell the Media folks to stop using the Republican Talking Point “Maverick™” as if there is anything factual about it?

Something McSame said in his “speech” tonight went right past me, saw it mentioned in the comments but never got straight what exactly he said:
Did McSame actually say he wants to abolish unemployment compensation?
I wonder if ASCAP and BMI are going to go after the McBush-NI! campaign big time”? They simply don’t seem to comprehend the concept of “Creative Copyright”. They’ve illegally used songs from Franki Valli, John Hall, Jackson Browne, Chuck Berry, Van Halen…and tonight I suspect they used Heart’s “Barracuda” and an Earth, Wind and Fire song without permission.
Y’know…musicians are small businessman that struggle most of their lives…and for the RNC to steal their music for their own purposes is the height of hypocrisy. It’d be like breaking into a small business, using the food and beer, and then…after the fact say…we won’t do it again. And then they find another bar to sneak into!
Larue had a question or two for ya, BK, at the beach house…! ;-)
… with her finger and her thumb with the shape of an l on her forehead…
Bill Bennett bloviating on CNN
Isn’t there a casino somewhere nearby that he could go to and get off of my TV?
I didn’t watch. I was practicing for the last two R&TD gigs.
are you a relay tonight?
Kind of thought of “Fool on the Hill,” too.
i hope they go after them with exactly the heavy handed lawyers just like the recording industry has used to go after those downloading mp3 ala napster
after i saw that look on palins face after her speech last night when mcsame hugged her, i though of their ‘run for your life little girl’
Politico’s Roger Simon hits back at Sarah Palin:
Apparently Unemployment is so “New Deal” for McBush…like Social Security…
McCain: “Government assistance for unemployed workers was designed for the economy of the 1950s. “
Yeah…like when we actually had a thriving economy…not a Bush-devastated one!
“That’s going to change on my watch… My opponent promises to bring back old jobs by wishing away the global economy.”
What bull…. Of course Republican policies sent those jobs abroad…by out-sourcing them. And Obama sees a new economic system…not so beholden on the corporations that feul the Republican party!
“We’re going to help workers who’ve lost a job that won’t come back, find a new one that won’t go away.”
So he admits that corporations off-shored those jobs…so what are the jobs that “won’t go away” that he has planned? Lawn Maintainance? Moose hunting? Big Box Store greeters?
“We will prepare them for the jobs of today.” How about the jobs of the future?
“We will use our community colleges to help train people for new opportunities in their communities.”
Apparently the jobs McCain thinks of doesn’t require higher education than a CC?
Instead of unemployment compensation…” For workers in industries that have been hard hit, we’ll help make up part of the difference in wages between their [well-paying] old job and a temporary [ahem…wink], lower paid one WHILE they receive retraining that will help them find secure new employment at a decent wage.”
So if you are a steel worker that received $20 an hour you’ll be expected to forego unemployment insurance and work at Weiner World full-time while also taking mandatory classes at a Community College. Then when a job as a greeter at Walmart emerges (ahem…that pays a “decent wage” i.e. minimum wages that the Republicans consider “livable”) then you’ll be cut off any of that PART OF THE DIFFERENCE that they are paying you while you work.
The McCain future…millions of Middle Class workers forced into minimum wage jobs!
I guess so Ma’am! …and I’m not even blog whoring my own…! ;-)
jane has a post upstairs johnny b dull
Oh …
Third rail, ASSHOLE!!
What a fucking maroon. Stick a fork in him, he’s done.
I cleared cashe in both ff and ie,used command and cleared it too.cleared dns rebooted too
Running spyware now and might reinsall ff
I’m watching the CNN rerun of its convention coverage. Just as an American I was outraged to see the RNC politicize a 9/11 scary Muslim terrorist video to appeal to the reptilian brains of its knuckledragger constituency, so as one who was born and raised in Oklahoma City am I outraged to see them doing the same with the white right wing American terrorist attack on that city
This stuff does not belong at a political convention

Using the correct grammar in present-day USA can be dangerous to ones health and peace of mind, opening one to ridicule. All-too many people think that the proper usage is wrong and the user an ignoramus! Sometimes one must write ”[sic]” to reinforce that ones usage is indeed correct.
Most often an egregious error. For example (but this failing is nearly ubiquitous among present speakers/writers of English hereabouts), Bush always says things such as ”We got to…; They got to understand….” The correct forms are clearly ”We have got to…; They have got to….” Bush is hardly alone in this misusage, and even the MSM are now adopting such deplorably ignorant grammar. Alas, use of this vitally important tense is little understood in recent American (USA) usage, judging from current examples of speaking and writing.
Try this mini quiz:
Question 1: Is grandmother alive or dead as of that sentence?
Question 2:
Answers on application, if needed/desired.
The Democratic National Convention did not impugn McCain’s devotion to country; McCain was praised for his service in the military. An objective of the Republican National Convention was to impugn Obama’s devotion to country; that was accomplished much of the time by implication but sometimes, as in some remarks by Sarah Palin and R. Giuliani, directly. The difference in the political parties’ behavior and character should be articulated during the campaign home stretch, and the buck should be made to stop with the presidential nominee.
thank you very much, cinnamonape
that sounds so…bushian
I’m surprised GW hasn’t thought of it
or maybe he did…
why do Republicans hate the success of the New Deal for all these years?
Hey Neuro here I am and I see you figured out the Digg submission way to go!!! So once I found the Digg I Dugg IT!!
Lo firepups…getting out yard signs! Set to walk neighborhoods and whatever is needed.
We have an agenda to accomplish and a lot of work to take America back.
The police indulgense in unrestrained brutality, creul and unusual punishment was absolutely surreal.
Eaves dropping FISA set up the demonstrator houses with surviellance and informants. The judges authorized illegal search and siezure setting banderius precedents. The beatings and the medical damages must be verified by a Medical Doctor.
This human rights violation must become a collage of film to show at community progressive theaters all over the country.
Head and jobs beed to roll.
12 jack bootd jump a frail 19 old in his cell beat him for 5 minutes and put him in a restrain chair. He was tasered repeatedlym maxed and pepper sprayed without out food water or medical attention. Minneapolis my have a huge budget shortfall next decade if the trial lawyers win damages including punative.
Simple they don’t have complete control of their workers and they can pay them the usual slave wages… Real simple isn’t it??
NAHANT:
I have been thinking about you a lot recently. I was about to send out a search party!
How are you getting on, Nahant?
Doing better every day… Boy was that an experience this time… Have to do it again middle of October.. Oh well at least things are progressing instead of just hanging around not knowing what is what..
Thanks for asking cleanth :>)
Glenzilla:
Nahant, I got McCain overload and dropped off for a few days just after your tests were to come in. I take it that you are undergoing therapy? Is it to take all precaution, or it is in response to pathology reports?
I think of you quite often. You’ve won my affections, and concern. Here’s to a successful outcome!
BTW Unemployment Insurance was NOT for a 1950’s economy…it was first introduced in 1936…under Roosevelt to help workers during the Great Depression. And benefits are a percentage of the workers prior wages. I can see why McCain wants to eliminate it, though….employers pay a % of the workers wages into the UI fund. Eliminate it and the employers could pocket that!
Same as they could do with SSI if it was eliminated!
McCain…tool of Big Business!
Are “they” threatening to do away with SSI? Is this a prospective hunch, or is this actually proposed? I could not stomach listening to McArsehole and so: Is that a proposal in his acceptance speech? Or elsewhere?
PLEASE advise. I have a loved one dependent upon SSI disability.
we’ve gotten them off and on all day – tis the hiccups the tech crew has been trying to fix
Hey Newton – Sadly, Ray has decided he doesn’t want to be in a band any more, so our last gig Sunday Sept 21 at the Walnut Festival in heather Farms Park in Walnut Creek. C’mon out cause we’re going over the hill for Mexican at the New Mecca Cafe in Pittsburg. You haven’t lived until you’ve been to the Mecca.
That invite goes for all Bay Area FDLers. C’mon out and help us rock and roll one more time and buy a CD while you’re at it.
Anyone interested?
g’nite pups, thanks for hanging with me tonight
I am. Tell me the timing..
nite suz
G’night suze.
Newton – we play from 330-430p.
Awww cleanth thanks (:>))
As for the tests/procedure I haven’t got the definitive word yet. They will be discussing my case tomorrow when the transplant people get together with the radiation people. My coordinator will be calling me after that, as of now I have two stories and just want to get the story straight. Good news is that now I am officiallylisted and shouldn’t have to wait too long to get the transplant… again thanks for caring,
Here’s an interesting post on applying prescriptive rules to language, as considered by the blogger upon reading a Steven Pinker book. He quotes this Pinker passage about prescriptive rules:
I had mostly fallen away from prescriptivism by the time I learned that I had been a prescriptivist. Some of the old, forcefully-imprinted lessons of grammar and syntax like to stick around.
night Suz sleep well…
I’m in.
You’ve talked about New Mecca Cafe before. Anything like the old Cadillac Bar in SF?
Never been to the old Cadillac. J’s sis will be in town and they have plans so I’ll be on my own. If you know some other local FDLers who might be interested, please feel free to let them know. We’ll get the big table in the back at the Mecca.
You would have loved the Cadillac. But these days, I keep clear of that kind of tequila drinking.
Well I’m toast for tonight sleep well all you great pups :>))
To any who are interested:
This allows me to point up an interesting (to me) take on this usage:
If “tech crew” is considered a mass noun, such as sugar, uncountable, then the tech crew has….
But if the “tech crew” is considered a group of individuals, then the tech crew have.
Have is the more usual norm in UK English, whilst has seems to prevail in the USA take. Either can be justified, both in the USA and elsewhere where the English language is used.
Oh, this, too: sugar as a mass, uncountable noun; sugar packets are countable, as packets are a countable noun.
Same rules apply to The Republican Party.
oh gahd, swallow hard, push back from the keyboard, say your mantra.
nite nahant. let me know about the pastramis
Oh good, good!
I got sidetracked (from being sidetracked) and found the EWF record I fell absolutely in love with them on:
Help Somebody. (I’d forgot the odd little segues they did on that album —as if it was so good they were embarrassed.)
Henry and Francis Fowler are my grammatical heroes. Both for _Modern English Usage_ and for _The Kings English_. The earlier UK editions, and not the unrevised, hideously-altered-by-other-hands editions.
Besides being prescriptive grammarians, they were humourous, and very witty.
Even such a small thing as Henry’s memorial notice for his brother, which appears as the front material to the first, 1926, edition of _Modern English Usage_ is magnificent English, and with its superb cadences.
you offering?? I do like a good pastrami
Give me a call in the am and we can figure, it out would be good to see ya newt (:>))
Nahant, see, I knew from nothing about transplant for you!!!!
Transplant of WHAT?
I take this as if it were one of my own, Nahant.
Liver they are saying they think it is the “C” word thus cure can be had with transplant
Normally I would say Opera Cafe, but I’m not sure – they may have gone downhill. I will check it out and call.
In your frail and withered condition, I’m inclined to bring it over and feed it to you.
Slaw or potato salad?
tater salad but do give a call. I am almost back to me but is has been a week already!
Yonodeler, let Pinker tell that to Sir Thomas Browne, Charles Doughty, Chaucer, Robert Burton (of _The Anatomy of Melancholy_) and others of this sort, whose English prose style has never been equalled and is not likely ever to be surpassed!
Yes, as a perusal of the OED, founded on historical principles, clearly demonstrates, English usage changes, but not all change is improvement.
I cannot comprehend how anyone could adduce persuasive arguments that modern English usage is anything but a degradation as compared to such magnificent exemplars as I have mentioned above. My take.
In the book. TTY about 1230, prolly show about 1
sounds great see ya then….
poof for the night for realzies this time
Nahant, I am diminished with this fraught news of your liver situation! Life is such a crap shoot. For all I know, I am myself harbouring tumours of one sort or another.
I make fabulous pastrami, so I am told, and if I lived near to you, which I do not, I should rush a supply to your door.
Opera Deli is not what it was in my Bay Area days, alas. But neither are my NYC deli haunts when I lived there so long ago.

I’m not policing anyone here. I am giving information on this open late late forum. Some esteemed posters at FDL make grammatical points, even snark, and they are not upbraided, Suzanne. Some of on FDL are quite interested in the growth, development, and the good use of the English language. But you choose to dump on me.
All are NOT equal at FDL, as demonstrated.
Does McCain still want to privatize Social Security? With tax payer financed bailouts of the financial companies we could have some fun in Florida with that issue.
I am quite sensitive to NOT taking cheap points regarding usage and spelling. I make typos myself. SO DO NOT ACCUSE ME! A theoretical discussion is not policing, and I have not accused any specific person!
Should have mentioned it speeds up the liver so it cleans the toxins the liver filters out of the blood faster.
I took that a few years ago for… can’t remember. But it was combined with Vitamin E and lemon something. Referred to by an herbalist as a blood purifier.
Well yes since it makes your liver go faster, your liver cleans the toxins out of your blood so by making your liver go faster it should clean toxins out of the blood faster.
But yes see a herbalist
Any of the MSM talking heads notice the Dow was down 344 points today? I wonder if it will go down more Friday after the market digests McCain’s speech and realizes that he is not going to win.
That and McCain unlike Sarah was the Best the GOP had.
How ironic! This, to which you object, started out as an appreciation of your grammar and usage. From my observation of your own earlier post, I developed an informative digression, And I nowhere accused or dissed anyone on FDL with that.
You owe me a public apology: do you have the good character to accord me it?
1,755 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOES ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Suzanne and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Yo Citizen Suzanne, another great “late late nite”…somehow I think the Beatles woulda had a great time spoofin’ John McCrazy…oh by the way, didja know that John McCain was a POW??!!
Gotta work ’till the birds get up so don’t bail on me too early folks!!
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, THIS IS NOT THE LAST BATTLE WE’LL FIGHT…THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES!!
I think Suzanne’s point is well taken by most people here.
Please observe the suggestions of your host.
All commenters here are afforded every courtesy. And when Suzanne, moderator and author of this post, and hence this thread, makes a request of you, consider it in the spirit in which it is made.
Thank you.
We need that Peggy Noonan tape where she says its all over for the Presidential race thanks to Sarah Palin as an Obama commercial she as a former speech writer for Bush 1 has Cred with the GOP that we can’t match.
Plus I’m sure seeing her 24/7 on tv commercials for Obama would piss her off I think its a win win.
Thanx TLM…
I still think Meth is the Key to the west.
http://www.juneauempire.com/st…..8002.shtml
Sarah was the Mayor of Wasilla the Meth capital of her state so by choosing her as VP Meth is on the table.
After all suppose Obama chose the mayor of the biggest crackhead city to be his running mate.
The GOP would have TV ads 24/7 running on all the channels.
http://blog.legendarylife.com/…..h-epidemic
My bold Highly sophisticated means hard to make only 9 places its made means that we can control access or just ban the stuff and promise money for alternatives that are not so prone to addiction.
All Obama has to do is say he will ban the key ingredient to make meth or heck it would be cheaper just to pay the 9 factories to not make meth.
Either way its one drug war that we can win quick cheap and fast.
Plus by raising this as an issue it forces the spotlight on Sarah’s hometown.
I have it here somewhere. Am trying to fetch it.
Did you see “Mouth-full-a-marbles” Peggy try to unjam herself in a column the next day?
Her hero Raygun would have been in stitches.
Sarah’s hometown is considered the bible belt of Alaska as well as being the meth capital.
http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/11/…..index.html
What states are the bible belt and what states have the highest meth users per capita? I think I see a trend.
Plus those meth heads who were gunning for Obama last I heard were being dismissed as not a serious threat.
But some African American guy in prison who sent McCain an envelope of white powder is?
I saw anything we can do to keep meth white supremacy guys, Sarah Palin, Preacher Haggard and the bible belt all linked and in the news helps our side.
That and by promising to stop Meth we get votes. My dad said the old mayer Daley said for every public job he give out he got his and the wife’s vote their inlaws and kids vote.
By ending meth we can get all their former friends votes too!
Ah, yes.
Noonan – on tape.
Note: I just love that she utters the word ‘bullshit’ outloud. Pretty media-savvy dame, that Peg.
Noonan – unctuously proclaiming…
as we expected she would, that we not trust our lying ears.
Yeah that was confusing she claimed to be out of context but never provided the full context or gave a explaintion for her words that was close to believable.
Goopers (and particularly their flacks): It’s not what you say, but how you say it, how often you say it, how many of your fellow travelers you can get to defend it, the volume you apply to it, and of course, waiting for the news cycle to rotate into the next 20-minute frame.
I’m really quite surprised not to hear, “If I get in dutch over this, Osama wins.”
Peggy is the first GOPer to call this election if we win which we will baring Diebold or a military takeover then we should remeber to praise Peggy’s insight come election night just to stick it to her.
After all Peggy Noonan is a big GOP Cheeze Wiz so if Peggy says that Sarah sucks and the race is over that does have much more weight with the GOP voters than whatever we say preachin to the choir.
Those rules work when voters are not paying attention I think voters are paying attention but we will see after the election. Because there will be so much analysis about what went wrong.
Is this a turning point or just another mistake by the GOP?
I think that if Obama tries to ban meth the GOP will bring up prohibition and say that banning drugs doesn’t work. To bad that unlike booze there are only 9 places in the world to get a key ingredient.
Actually, I don’t expect them to work per se, and neither does she. What I think she wants is for the last word anybody remembers about the incident is her making a full-throated and earnest defense of it, hoping that the last word really is the last word. It’s worked many times for them.
Good evening, and thank you Citizen Norske. We are open all night.
Attaturk is upstairs!
Blow a Convention Speech? That’s “unpossible”
Not on this how many people have seen the U tube version as opposed to read her excuse? I agree that she wants the last word but thats not going to happen.
nite things, nite pups
gotta have a pulse tomorrow
