About Firedoglake
Every time I see two Rethugs together, whether it’s St. John and Sarah or Pickles and Cindy, the picture that comes to mind is “Dumb and Dumber.” Where’s an asteroid when you need one?
good morning, Recently I read that Sarah’s husband and son were registered independents. Maybe they couldn’t register as Alaska Independence Party members. From what I have seen on the news, they are highlighting the pregnancy but not the other issues.
Was this just all planned in advance as a massive distraction from something much more important?
The Presidential Election, previously scheduled for this time slot, has been postponed until further notice. We now return you to our regularly scheduled dictatorship, already in progress.
Did anyone monitor the 7-7:30 segment of Washington Journal to see what callers had to say about the palin news?
Mornin’ all!
Cindy? JHFC, I’ve seen better looking drag queens.
These people don’t want to hear about olongapo city :)
nah, way too messy to be a planned diversion.
Was a rash & reckless pick.
Apparently McCain so wanted Lieberman it ended in this mess. Hey, mebbe we should send Lieberman a thank you note.

Saw that thing with Cindy and Laura. Those two have the same thousand yards, deers in the headlight, stare. That koolaid sure is powerful…
I was half listening, so not a great assessment; but overall — lousy pick and a lot of callers think she needs to tend to her family’s needs. She did have defenders tho, the ones trying so hard to make the best of this disaster.
Raven, that was for you. Laughin’ so hard I fergot to click reply. They was even better lookin’ in Manila.
gotcha
cindy looks very….. um …… pale.
A song for Sarah Palin and her Wing … and John McCain too.

maybe more pasty white than pale. but she gets points for losing the pink cast. atyt would have clased big-time. but Cindy looks like she’s wearing one of the Disney “princess dresses” like my daughter used to have.
Who is that? The beauty and the beast lady?
Spot-on, Plunger; as is often the case with your posts.
still not seeing any traditional media stories on the thuggish FBI/national guard/police crackdown on protests in MSP. Where are the Ron Paul supporters?
Looks like she’s got more colour than Laura. Must be all that time she spends outside with the pool boyz. Still looks like an amateur drag queen, though.
Saw your comment from last night. Vernor’s is the only ginger ale worth spending money on. Discovered it in San Diego after getting back to the world.
Amy Goodman talking about her arrest on democracynow.
Gotta love the headline writer at McClatchy.
Those “many Republicans” are apparently all Senior Administration Officials cheering on Deep Background.
… in a galaxy far, far, faraway ;-)
(finishing touches)
The media narrative is that the Democrats are divided, not the Republicans.

Friend of mine trekked into St. Paul to see what was happening. I have her photos. She did get out of Dodge before the tear-gassing and pepper-spraying began. Before the storm troopers pounded the hell out of a young man of middle eastern color on the Seventh Place mall, while RNCers who were wining and dining outside on the mall stood and applauded. Yup. My home towns.
For some of us it’s only a blink away. In gorgeous Technicolor, 70mm and Surround Sound.
Word is that Bush now intends to show up here. Raise puke shields.
Tks! Couldn’t force meself to listen. :-(
…. and popcorn with real butter ……
Here at the Lake? Well, shit, I’m ready. Where’s my wrist rocket.
Funny! Sorry to be so parochial. “Here,” meaning RNC convention in St. Paul.
The GOP narrative is beginning in earnest.
Drudge headlines “media turns on McCain”.
Johnny and Sarah McVictim.

Maybe you know this: one of the unique things about the Vernor’s taste was the sweetener originally used: stevia. The refined sugar lobby forced the discontinuance of this harmless substance in Vernor’s ginger ale, adducing bullshit claims. Today’s Vernors, fine as it is, is not the wonderful Vernors of my youth. I used to get it when visiting folks in Detroit, where it originated, but it is now specially brought into the Twin Cities by a high-end grocery here. Wonderful stuff, as you know.
My grandfather used to make ginger ale, and root beer fermented with yeast, in bottles. When we visited him we kids were delighted with the explosions in the cellar from time to time!
Democracy Now playing Lenonard Cohen’s “Democracy”……Keith Ellison now on.
Ha! Reminds me of a little business card my ex brought back from a bar in Olangapo called (I think) The MC Club which had as its logo a little Marine Corps bulldog with a huge erect penis. What I liked about the image was that this fierce little dog had such a huge dick that it took all its effort to hold it up, but he couldn’t see around it because it was so big. It is a metaphor that I have had many opportunities to apply and seems appropriate again now.
Ron Paul up now on CSPAN
they are having a Liberty Rally 1:30 today and CSPAN will cover it.

Don’t forget your umbrellas!
Will his blimp be there?
When I was a kid my neighbor made root beer from scratch and always made sure I got some. He also made beer. What a kick that shit had. I also remember the exploding bottle caps in the cellar routine. What a mess!
Luang Prabang
(Dave Van Ronk)
When I came back from Luang Prabang
I didn’t have a thing where my balls used to hang
But I got a wooden medal and a fine harangue
Now I’m a fucking hero
cho: Mourn your dead, land of the free
If you wanna be a hero, follow me
Mourn your dead, land of the free
If you wanna be a hero, follow me
And now the boys all envy me
I fought for Christian democracy
With nothing but air where my balls used to me
Now I’m a fucking hero
One and twenty cannons thundered
Into the bloody pale blue yonder
For a patriotic balless wonder
Now I’m a fucking hero
In Luang Prabang there is a spot
Where the corpses of your brothers rot
And every corpse is a patriot
And every corpse is a hero

Van Ronk’s answer to “wimpy anti-war songs.” The melody is “Byker Hill”
I’ve emailed that question in, so we’ll find out ;)
This is long. Sorry. Can’t find the link.
It was also on coffee cups you could buy. Different branch of service? Yep, different uniform, same dick. Wish I could remember some of the captions.
Same thing in my youth–my father made root beer, not real beer. And exploding bottles. The result was worth the work though. I no longer drink root beer because the manufactured stuff bears no resemblance to the real mccoy.
here ya go barbara

1. Attack the media.
2. Attack the media.
3. Attack the media.
(How did I get on that distribution list?)
The army had no such vile stuff! Ever see the big dady roth military drawings?
Fuckin’ pigs.
McCain/Palin and the GOP are now playing every victim card in the deck.
Rally the base the librul media is attacking us!

Hi eCAHN, was a delight to meet you this weekend.
my Dad talked about the same thing, good root beer and popping bottles in the basement. lol!
didn’t he do the Ratt Fink drawings?
Cleanth:
Have you had occasion to read through all of this?
http://plungerspeaks.blogspot.com
It was all saved, compiled an posted by WinterPatriot a couple years ago, much to my surprise.
If I have I don’t remember them. I’ve still got copies of a lot of the artwork from those days. My favourite has always been the mouse flipping off an eagle swooping down on it with the caption, “The last great act of defiance.”
What a nice BBQ and great schmoozing!
Yea. lot’s of custom cars too. I won’t put a link to the drawings because they would be considered “offensive” but if you google Big Daddy Ed Roth Vietnam a couple pop up.
Send me the link at FB, please.
Top o’the morning all!
Glad to see New Orleans was mostly spared ,thank God!
Can’t wait to see how the Palin thing turns out
I think she was just meant to be a distraction from the real issues in this election!
Smoke and mirrors from the Rethug party
Roth on South Vietnam Air Force
When will NPR get rid of Mara Liasson? She is absolutely terrible. Always parses her words very carefully not to offend her Republican “friends”. Not one word about Palin having been a member of a seccessionist party in Alaska. Anyone that is still contributing to NPR is merely helping finance another Republican soapbox.
whoa
thanks!
With Republicans it’s always image over reality. George Lakof has another brilliant analysis at Huffingtonpost.
Patrick Sammon up on CSPAN, head of the Log Cabin Republicans
That’s mild. The artwork coming out of Nam could be brutal. There was one with a really big dude with an M-16 in one hand and a human thigh bone on his shoulder with the caption:
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil because I’m the meanest motherfucker in the valley.
Big Daddy Roth was a friend of my brother! When he visited, he slept on his hog. What a colourful character.
I am trying to find for you guys the lyrics of Dave Van Ronk’s “The Whores Of San Pedro”. (O, the whores of San Pedro are older than God…With only one thump of their ponderous rumps, they could blow your poor pecker to bits./So here’s to the whores of San Pedro, those wonderful fucking machines/if I had my way, they’d feature today/on the cover of Time Magazine.”
Maybe you already know it.

I wonder what kind of artwork was popular with the Nam era Texas Air National Guard?
Thanks for the tip. I’ll get to it anon.
McCain probably chose Palin because the ‘qualified’ members of the GOP said “hell no” when his campaign inquired about their interest in being VP.
Spin,spin spin!!
I think they know they’re in big trouble, they have nothing to offer!
Thanks for clueing me in have you seen Campbells interveiw with Tucker Bounds?
Ask and ye shall receive.
Campbell kicked Bounds ass right up over his shoulders, then called him “Babe!”
Egad! I thought the same thing this morning. I no longer listen to rebarbative NPR news, but I had some local classical music public radio on and they have NPR news on the hour. I gritted my teeth and turned it off. I loathe her! NPR are establishment whores nowadays.
Do ya think they’ll turn all progressive and shit when the Dems take over? ROFLMAO. Sorry, couldn’t help myself.
Jane’s upstairs tweeting
I remember when the gov’t started decreasing funding for public radio. This put the fear into NPR right good and they changed in a trice into reactionaries. It does disgust me. I listen to Amy Goodman and an amaziing low power station here called KFAI.
Hadn’t heard of it in years. I appreciate your note in light of the previous dust-up.
As I said the day that it was announced (and actually before it was announced ;) ), the Palin selection was a Christian Right/Rove pick first; they were the only ones that actually “vetted” her. It showed who really is in charge of the campaign.
To get on point to what you are saying, the media persecution narrative is all about rallying the base. That darn librul media attacking Palin like that. Her 17-year old daughter was sinful, but she’s getting married now so everything is Okie-dokie.
This Rove tactic failed in 2006 and it will fail again. As an aside, I have often wondered why the name Rove is not radioactive. My theory is that how successful he was in getting as much done for the real GOP “base”, the monied interests, from 2000 to 2004 is the ONLY reason that he has not been tarred and feathered, because the man has made a lot of enemies, leaving dead bodies in his wake left and right.
McCain is not the only one who is doubling down on the Presidency. Karl Rove and his minions (Steve Schmidt!) are betting the house as well. [Lookie there - it’s Tucker “shhh - McCain has a black bastard baby” Askew!]
In my mind they’re going to lose, but then we have 8 weeks (and 2 hurricanes and whatever other scary things they can drum up) to go.
Not unless and until we get rid of Bushco.
In the Tampa Bay area we get her on our community radio station WMNF. I’ve met her twice now and am enthralled by her presence. Awesome person.
No – all of the GOP appointees would have to move on as well and they all like their wingnut welfare.
I stay away from Nice Polite Republicans. Unfortunately, those idiots from XM have replaced The Young Turks with Bill “I love my MSM sources” “milktoast” Press again. grrrrrrr!
The story is not about Sarah Palin. The story is about John McCain. Read more. http://www.tagg-lines.com/2008…..-game.html
