John McCain was a POW. Did you know that? He apparently served his time in a cell getting "not tortured" (by current definitions anyhow) by his North Vietnamese captors, and their mentors from the old Soviet Union and Cuba. It’s an amazing story, one worth hearing, and I’m sure if you ask St. John nicely, he’ll reluctantly tell you of his trials and little personal triumphs in Hanoi especially if you ask really really really really nicely.
Veterans like McCain often say that they served to protect the American "way of life", which until this administration meant protecting the Constitution (that pesky "support and defend" thing) and often giving their lives to ensure that the country they made the ultimate sacrifice for was the same for their children as it was for them. So why is the Veteran POW honorable-reticent-hero McCain so willing to watch the violation of the civil liberties of Americans in Minnesota? His reticence to discuss this? Or to assert (or insert) himself into this situation certainly sends a chilling message to Americans who are paying attention. He doesn’t care if Americans are arrested for exercising their Constitutional Rights, despite the flag pin on his lapel… especially if they hold opposing political viewpoints, now that’s bipartisanship for you!
But he was a POW.
And he’s touring the emergency facilities on the Gulf in the path of Gustav… which is his campaign event for the day…
And he was a POW.
Sara Palin was a mayor of a town in Alaska the size of Mayberry, and is uniquely qualified to be VP of the Mount Pilot Chamber of Commerce if nothing else.
But he was a POW.
Now he’s just wishing (and hoping) that every one in America remembers he was a POW.
John needs a lot of naps in the path of Gustav, it’s a Maverick-y way to handle a crisis after all, the Politics of Weather…
Did I mention that he was a POW? He’s wishing for Ronald Reagan to come back from the grave to resurrect his candidacy, because Sara Palin ain’t doing it for anyone but the "base" and the 250 members of PUMA who somehow seem to make it onto the talking head shows with their blonde spokesbimbo…
Americans arrested without cause, war without end, cities devastated by storms, terrorists roaming free and encouraged by this administration’s policies, an economy in shambles, middle-class Louisiana residents who make less than five-million dollars a year will have him lead the republicans in party hats (who make less that five million a year too) from the convention become a human levee on the edge of Lake Ponchartrain (and completely screw up security and evacuation protocols in the city of New Orleans)…what a guy!
John McCain, POW. Did I mention that? A maverick practitioner of the Politics of Whatever.

POW!
I Dugg your Digg, Eureka…
PUMA who somehow seem to make it onto the talking head shows with their blonde spokesbimbo…
If I’m thinking of the same one you’re thinking of – the one with the dead eyes who looks like she could star in some horror flick, all I can say about her is –
“(*shudder*)”
I don’t think McSame is being reticent about the Gestapo tactics in Minnesota. I think he’s oblivious.
I doubt, however, that he would object, if he did know what was going on.
Cheney, on the other hand, probably knows all about it
Thanks, neurophius, and thanks Joe Fish!
Somebody needs to tell the Twin Cities police state the convention has been all but cancelled.
Bob Barr said that McCain “vetted” Palin himself. Is that like playing doctor?
No, it’s like being an animal doctor.
but if they didn’t continue doing their police state time, they might not get to collect all that federal money
Whatever it takes also includes Cindy. I did not see the ABC morning program, but I checked the webpage to see if I could catch up on her complaint about Obama. The clip is brief. But she is proud of her dad and the honest money he made and left her.
Warning, if you can stand it, the comments on that site are a glimpse into the world of the election. I think it is hysterical that Cindy can be the mouth to criticize Obama for saying mean things about her husband, at the same time Sen. John can question Obama’s patriotism. Yep, never mind. But there she is. But the nutcase chorus that joins into comment is a view of a very different world. Thanks foro FDL.
McCain said it was alright as long as detainees in Minnesota weren’t tortured. Later he changed his mind and said that torture would be okay too.
Somebody needs to tell the Twin Cities police state the convention has been all but cancelled.
“Oooh, goody, more time for us to go out anarchist huntin’!”
To be fair every hood thinks that going to jail gives them street cred.
Being locked up is one of the most miserable things that can happen to a person.
Your outlook on life often changes. But can you get past it? Is it the most defining moment in your life? Will nothing you accomplish later eclipse the pain?
Or to put it another way I am sick of hearing why McCain is the way he is. I want to know what he thinks.
Like just how does he plan to pay for the war without raising taxes, more debt?
But won’t that just drop the value of the Dollar even more and make goods more expensive taking away my buying power just like a tax would?
I want answers John I already know you were a POW now lets hear what you think.
And while I realize there a many drinkers here but I am not all that thrilled by a fortune that comes from the #1 killer in this country.
Bob Barr said that McCain “vetted” Palin himself. Is that like playing doctor?
Did he find any bearings?
Great post, Jo Fish.
Did you mention he was a POW?
It’s expected McCain would have nothing to say about the illegal raids and arrests. Sadly, Obama will be ducking, too. I suppose it’s expected based on his FISA vote, but he also sets himself up for more “Randy Ayers, all the time” if he speaks up on this, no matter how correct he is and how unrelated to Ayers the situation is.
The blonde bimbo? Liar Darragh Murphy?

Wait a day or two if the Hurricane is real big the entire convention might be canceled!
I really want someone to ask him what he thinks about bush and cheney insisting that he was never tortured
I suppose he would say there “were other techniques used” besides those this administration redifined to be “not torture”, but someone needs to ask him, “were they considered torture when he himself was “not tortured” and if they were war crimes when we prosecuted the germnas, why aren’t they war crimes now
and how long he thinks either cheney, bush or rumsfeld would take to swear to god that these methods are in fact torture if they themselves were subjected to the “techniques”
I expect the moment someone approached with the board or the water they would change his tune right there
man, a man will go insane and die with “sleep deprivation” yet these people have convinced their minions to say “it’s NOT torure”
man oh man oh man, I cannot believe what has happened to this country
but I rant, i want someone to ask mccain how he feels about bush and cheney saying he is full of crap when he claims he was tortured
McCain looked into her eyes and saw her soul.
It’s a gift. Saves the spectacle of no-fucking-body watching.
Did she mention her son joined up on 9/11 and is shipping out on 9/11? an appeal for the Ghouliani voters who just can’t get enough of that 9/11 stuff.
“Republican leaders, including McCain himself, say it would be unseemly to be seen celebrating while a natural disaster unfolded on the Gulf coast 1,100 miles away. Organizers said they would plan day to day based on the impact of the hurricane.”
Yeah, “unseemly”.
We wouldn’t want to “appear” uncaring as a hurricane swept down on people on the Gulf Coast, now would we.
Leave Johnny alone!!!!! So what if he mentions that he was a POW once or twice. He’s just putting country first.
She gave his mos and ship date. Jo Fish, operational security breach?
I saw those eyes and had the same feeling. I felt like I needed a tranquilizer dart just to watch her being interviewed.
I like the last paragraph or so of your summary of the status quo under Neocons Jofish,
Really can’t be sefended or said enough.
These poor people, one of two Louisiana tribes, are gonna take a direct hit…:

It provides an excuse I mean who expects McCain’s convention to get half the attention Obama’s did its like the WHO following Jimi.
If the GOP convention came first they might have gotten a bounce but following Jimi/Obama the audience is going to go get snacks.
But if you cancel after Jimi/Obama plays you save yourself some embarrassment you don’t gain anything you avoid a negative,
anybody see the re-run on c-span yesterday of McCain on some book program? From ‘02, I think. Talks about how Falwell and his ilk are scumbags. I think it was McCain. Maybe not. It was a SEnator with white hair from AZ who was a POW in Vietnam. But it didn’t sound like him.
Not only that, but the $100 million estimate of Cindy’s worth from the distributorship is way too low. Here in Gainesville, Anheuser Busch stole the local franchise back from the Roger Maris family. They then lost in court and had to settle. The Maris family had estimated the compensatory damages at $250 million. If the Gainesville distributorship is worth a couple hundred million, the Phoenix one can’t be under a billion.
Those are the kind of ads Obama should air to remind everyone that Mccrazy is full of absolute shit.
And apparently it is rare for a city as big as Phoenix to only have one A-B distributor.
cut her a break. she’s just a hockey mom. how would she know?
Republican fat cats have done such an efficient job of draining the National Treasury, it is time to use their super-absorbent powers for the good of the nation. Arrange them inside the flood zone and let them soak up water after the pumps fail.
I don’t feel like writing out Alaska all the time. What’s the 2 letter abbreviation? (I also don’t feel like looking it up.) There’s Arkansas, Alaska and Alabama and I don’t think I’ve ever had reason to use Alaska’s abbreviation. I don’t think I’ve had reason to write it out either. Is that right? A-L-A-S-K-A?
She also the commander of the AK guard. However, they have the unit’s deployment on the Ft Wainwright website so it’s as good as any of the “secrets” we had in the Nam!

LOL
AK, has a nice ring to it doesn’t it?
Aloha Jo! Another excellent post!
so what happens? will she and McCain go up for a photo op and see them off and trash Obama for being against the surge and use the troops for a campaign photo-op like Obama wouldn’t in Gearmany (only to get trashed for it by McCain)
…and then he hastened to add that “we don’t torture!”
Ach-ach-ach-ak!!!!
I dunno, the brits pulled the prince when he got outed. Maybe it was a ploy to get him out of it. I wouldn’t want to be walkin drag with some target next to me!
John was a POW.
Joe Morgan is in the hall of fame.
Laura Ingraham clerked for Clarence Thomas.
Rudy Guiliani is tough on terra because he walked down a street on 9/12.
Is there any thing else.
I never realized that “maverick” means “one who wanders aimlessly from place to place in the wilderness with no clue of bearings.”
That is a real good angle
You will need to do like Chicago on St. Paddy’s and dye it green. their powers only work on the green stuff. 8-)
McCain is against the storm surge
Can’t stop laughing. Ha Ha Ha
This AP story is full of typos, but here is what I just pulled from a story on Yahoo News:
That’s right folks, Palin’s qualifications come from another set of three letters: PTA!!!
Can’t stop laughing….
I got my wish, chris wallace actually does broach the subject, if you want to see and read, I just gleaned this cut and paste from c and l and this is mccain calling bush a war criminal;
right there, mccain said it right there, bush committed war crimes, now about that follow up chris;
“since you as most achknowledge it is indeed torutre, and since we prosecuted before for water boarding, you do realizse you just told america that cheney, bush and rumsfeld are war criminals, did you not?”
his head will burst
But I thought he said the surge was working! 8-)

If I may be so bold:

That is all.
Raven, you know the old adage of ‘F*ck up, move up…’ Well, 1SGT Hatley, the one that tried to debunk the Beauchamp TNR debacle, he’s fixing to be promoted to SGM! Moon of Alabama has a great expose on him and his impending promotion…! ;-)
,i>I saw those eyes and had the same feeling. I felt like I needed a tranquilizer dart just to watch her being interviewed.
tranquilizer dart, or maybe a crucifix, sound like essential items, just in case, when watching her.
If she ever looked into the camera and smiled, with those eyes, I think I’d run screaming.
well, as Barbara Bush would say, “that seems to be working out so well for him”…he thinks it’s working–for his chances in the election.
Shit rolls downhill
how tall is bush?
I can’t believe how much shorter mccain is, how tall is mccain?
how tall is obama?
man, mccain really looks like a fat putz in that picture
But if we attack Palin, we are misogynists. Just ask egalia over at Tennessee Guerilla Women. The title of the post is wait for it wait for it “Misogyny Watch: ‘Progressive’ Menz Count the Months of Sarah Palin’s Pregnancies!”
Good thinking. Or if they leave their routing number, we can direct deposit the water in their offshore bank.
First he was for the surge, now he’s against it. New day, same old flip-flop.
Water routed into their offshore accounts… LOL! Teh Funny!
I’m really sorry to see the Tennessee women writing like that. I thought they were progressive – wrong again.
Oh, come on!
He’s leaving with his unit, the Fairbanks-based Stryker Brigade, headed out for their 4th deployment. His desire to be an infantryman were in the Alaska press at the time of his enlistment. Palin is only repeating knowledge commonly available.
Their last deployment caused a lot of casualties, and they were kept in Iraq 6 months longer than usual. When Rumsfeld went to families to talk about the extension, he was booed and yelled at. I think he was outta the DoD soon afterward.
well, the moment seems to be right for this…
Take away the glasses, and you have…
Sarah Palin, Runaway Bride!
And no appearances by our shooter and idiot leaders (Guess who?) No Cheney, no W. How did Mc get to be so lucky.
I forgot to mention that he’s also being tried for the murder of (more) innocent Iraqis…!
U.S. Soldiers Executed Iraqis, Statements Say
Yep, the same 1SGT!
Just a poor memory of what I think Ive read, but about 5′6; that may stretch it.
I asked a question, chill. I still think it is not cool to advertise someone who could be a high value target. Why do you think Mc Cain and Webb don’t discuss their son’s deployments?
St John and Preznit Incredibly Futile are both charter members of the Lucky Sperm Club. An exclusive organization of men (and women) who were born on third and think they hit a triple.
For real.
Whoever that’s a photo of is likely to suffer from hyperthyroidism.
This morning, Mr. LS went to the local independently-owned convenient store to buy some stuff. The owner was watching the weather channel behind the counter….Mr. LS remarked that the storm looked ominous…The owner looked him right in the eye and said, “Hopefully this storm will take care of New Orleans once and for all”….
I kid you not.
Also, this Crooks & Liars story is chilling:
http://www.crooksandliars.com/…..-cautious/
You’re right! A lot of casualties, ET! From what I read the AK-ARNG experienced 107 KIA, to put it in perspective, the HI-ARNG had 7 KIA during their earlier deployment! They’re roughly the same size units…!
I think W is around 6′ and so is Obama…McCain..not so much.
I’ve heard 5’7” but I’m pretty sure $520 Ferragamos come with little hydraulic lifts.
And CNN had Fred Thompson talking about what a good choice the Gov. Girl is….new, exciting, etc. ‘Course, we know he likes young women, but he seemed truly impressed by the cleverness of the choice. I don’t know how often he is right.
According to wikipedia, McCain is 5′7″, which would make him the shortest president in 120 years if elected.
Good point, if McCain and Webb haven’t. Maybe she’s angling to keep him from being deployed.
The blonde bimbo? Liar Darragh Murphy?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgcSvUWrUpQ
Yikes !! That’s her !!
(runs screaming like a little girl)
The deployment “caused” casualties, they “experienced” 107 KIA’s. . .damn, is that how it’s described now?
The subtext is, she wouldn’t be good enough to prop up the ego of an aging TV star but Vice President of the United States? No problem.
Dubya is 5′11 and Obama is 6′1/2″.
Raven, I think you’re jumping to conclusions… How could it paint a bigger target on his back in all actuality? The Iraqis don’t say; Okay, let’s go after this one particular unit…!
5′11″
http://www.whosdatedwho.com/ce…..w-bush.htm
Was the Hawaii group extended?
Combined with the fact that Charlie, or whatever they call the bad guys, likes to hit new arrivals. Course these dudes seem salty with all those tours.
Here’s the wike rundown on who’s taller than whom in 08
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H…..candidates
Really, why did the brits yank the prince?
Sarah Palin, Runaway Bride!
yep, those are some crazy eyes too. But here, they induce fits of laughter.
That is pretty scary stuff. Definitely want a crucifix, holy water, a bushel of garlic, a dozen mirrors and a sun lamp if I met her.
So….how tall is Kucinich? Everybody said he was “too short”…maybe it is all based on how the cameras can fake your height…i.e., head size and such…proportion.
I once watched a scientific program that said that “famous” people almost always have slightly large “faces”…that people respond to the large face thing…McLame has a large face…Palin has a large face. It was an interesting study. Little bodies, large face (not head…face).
That should read that Obama is 6′1″ or 6′2″.
YUCK …. NBC is going on how much McBush puts “country first” and amazingly that is his campaign slogan…. wow what a coincidence!
CNN in the last two days showed some segment about McBush talking about one of his earlier campaigns where someone challenged McBush about being a carpetbagger to AZ… and McBush said…… “well I wish I had grown up in a nice place like AZ but moved a lot in the navy and well the longest place I’ve ever lived was in the Hanoi Hilton”….. THIS boob has been doing this for 26 years…… give me a break….
yay – no court tonight!
Whoa, big fella! Easy! You know where I’m coming from… I mourn each and every loss and advocate leaving ASAP! I didn’t mean to ruffle feathers…!
That height measurement does not account for shrinkage. Is John Kerry 6′3″?
I don’t think so. Kerry had half a head on Dim Son.
Yep, they did 15 months!
Twin Cities Indymedia just reported that the police are massing again around the Convergence Center (where the RNC Welcoming Committee meets). They are asking for legal observers and mass presence. Maybe a mod can get word to Jane/Lindsey/Glenn that this is happening.
I am disappointed that MSNBC has gone to an All-Breaking News-The Hurricane is Coming format. Even though the Convention has been cut back, “The Best Political Team on Television” could at least be prowling the streets of St. Paul and Minneapolis and checking out the swankiest hotels and restaurants and bars for signs of Republican bigwigs partying on as if they don’t care that a hurricane is happening…what are all the fun-seekers doing, having prayer meetings?
A lot smaller force and they knew specifically where he was serving(Basra)…
Apparently…(Ready for this????)… drum roll ……5′7″, same as McCrazy and former Democratic candidate Michael Dukakis.
This is incredibly scary. If it really was badly handled, that’s absurd. The expectation has been for very high security. Gag.
But the other part of the page, on Poor Little Rich Girl, was perfect. She needs to be a little more careful about her little girl opinions.
Wolf saying the storm can be “game changing” for the election…no explanation
So what gives here? You guys have court dates on a holiday Sunday?
Exactly my thoughts. McCane won’t have his speech compared to Obama’s. I loaded up on popcorn too. Half the other speakers already bailed after the democratic convention knowing the comparisons would be made. It’s as though Gustav is a gift to republicans. This could have been postponed rather than cancelled, but no.
Maybe he’ll use his sick days instead of attending the debates too.
Phoenix local news reporting that the AZ GOP delegates have met in a subdued meeting today in St. Paul and that Pickles has been doing sound checks……. So the local networks are trying to figure out …… go to the GOP convention or Gustav?
He was also a high value target, as opposed to the Alaska National Guard.
But our team is up there, though…..
And Laura was up there checking out the mike, etc. She is always glad for a way to get a rest from W. She’s still there for whatever develops.
that’s a big IF, if you ask me.
(ps was fascinated by your exchange with cinnamonape this afternoon, which has nothing to do with this.)
The Free Market System and Republican Capitalism demand that all that liquor and call girls get utilized. Many of those girls travelled some distance to get there. Diapers, whips, handcuffs…ready for use.
I would think that most of the delegates who have any sense have cancelled. Their heroes President Cheney and Bush are not going to be there. McC is apparently going to be in NO
so why go.
as opposed to screaming like a boy?
the tv would burst… but a nice thought. Follow-up that nails. Sigh.
Focus on the Family was praying for rain in Denver last Thursday and you know how bad Republicans are at geography…
*hangs head bashfully* Just talking shop. He is a long time friend and collaborator with one of my colleagues who is also a biological anthropologist and I was conveying a question our friend Randy had asked.
Yahoo front page says Storm Offers Republicans a Chance at Redemption.
Don’t forget the rent boys for Larry and friends.
Which means, as well, that she is far more qualified than John McCain…who is Senator from a state that produces almost no energy (which explains the Senator’s speeches), has never served on a Town (it’s NOT a ‘city’, excuse me) Council…or was mayor of such. And I bet John never even attended a PTA meeting.
So who should be at the top of the ticket, John!
Better yet, how about covering all the Jack-Booted thuggery being conducted in the Twin Cities…! Hmmm…? ;-)
I saw Sen. Vitter on TV a while ago, speaking from some Crisis Center. I wondered if his idea of a crisis was running out of Depends…
[no disrespect to hurricane victims intended]
Okay…so the pundits are all saying that the hurricane is helping the pukes…but…..
If the levees break because they weren’t funded properly or the repair and upgrading wasn’t done properly….then I beg to differ…
That is what this whole hurricane is being “used” by the media for…political points…either way.
Amazing how the pundits use the lives of American citizens as political pawns.
Makes me sick.
Hello Larry!
I read somewhere that McCane is 5′7″. Seems I read Obama is 6′1″.
I don’t know if everyone knows this but McBush tried to take over the AZ GOP State party by putting together a slate of officers for their election in 2007. First it is against the bylaws to have a slate of officers vs individuals running for positions and lots of pressure BUT the local Repugs actually won over all of McCain’s slate…..
Write to the news organizations and ask why they aren’t covering it. I have contacted CNN, MSNBC, NYT, LAT, & McClatchy. The latter forwarded my note to their St. Paul office to follow up on.
Just their luck something would come up to “stall” the convention.
yes, that too, one would hope, but I am trying to be realistic…
I see it the opposite way….
Damn, that so reminds me of Iraq and their ‘lists’ they utilize for ‘elections’…!
Oh is the local news all a twitter….. “One of our own has a shot at the white house”
Ya right, if you yaahoos had actually reported the truth and not kept going “All Twitter” when McBush is around……
Absolutely. And when we point out that the ineptitude of the Rethugs is directly responsible for the city going under a second time, we will be the ones using the disaster for political gain.
I just found a report that homeless people without ID are not being evacuated. Don’t know how reliable it is.
In Richard Nixon’s day, they would have sent in the Plumbers…
So what gives here? You guys have court dates on a holiday Sunday?
yep. Only at the Arrest Processing Center, though. 24/7/365. Night court goes from 8:00 P.M. to 4:00 A.M.
I had a kid get picked up who’s walking around unmedicated, suicidal, schizophrenic that I’ve got scheduled to get into the system for the meds he needs at 8:00 Tues morning. He got picked up for a DWS – so I needed to get him out of there. Somehow, the system blinked from having him on a no-bond hold to OR’ing him.
Lady on the phone said “What the heck?”
I said “Thanks, bye”.
heh.
And that may be true. I hope you it merely underscores the tragic response to Katrina, thanks to W and Brownie, as emblematic that these people hate government and have failed on all their promises to aid the recovery. I guess it can emerge in any number of ways; McC votes are not going to look good.
I lived in NO for many years, went to college there, my daughter grew up there, etc. Many, many lives there have absolutely not recovered, stress, insurance claims, crime, so many things. This is a replay of so much of that….while Brownie was doing a “heckava job” and worrying about his shirt and W brought the TV cameras into Jackson Squares for his lies before he left town. We should all be outraged on behalf of those folks.
Love the Mayberry references. The BIG Saturday night visit to the CITY of Mt. Pilot. Wonder if Northern Exposure will be brought back for syndication. The time is ripe.
But is it true the talking heads were dispensing “SP is a compelling choice kool-aid” on the Sunday panel shows? Oy vey.
CNN reported it too. How do they know, since they said that registration was not necessary until the destination is reached…Because it is obvious. They will sacrifice those that don’t pass the sniff test.
as opposed to screaming like a boy?
I take great pride in keeping in touch with my feminine side. *g*
Nice work, Dr. D! Hopefully they’ll follow up! Pioneer Press is doing some awesome work alongside Uptake and Jane and Glenn amongst others… Maybe that is another reason they’d cancelled tomorrow’s gala…!
Lordy, LS. Can you believe this mentality still exists in 2008? And that kids in Minnesota are being locked up while the Obama killer-wanna-bees are shunned by the press. Although honestly, it’s possible that Obama asked for the silence, I suppose.
Have been wondering about the homeless there. How heartbreaking this is. I pray the storm misses.
A dedicated lawyer, you give the profession an upgrade over some I have known.
Actually, the R’s are in crisis mode. They had to bail on the convention otherwise they would appear to be uncaring and hard-hearted. Now that some are flocking to the Gulf area, they are disorganized and they fear that their shoddy repairs won’t hold. They also fear that discussion of their fleecing taxpayers and rewarding contractor cronies like JEB will resurface.
If the Media were liberal, the R party would be history.
They are lucky that the wind speed is down.
The MSM will report that the downsizing of the R convention is bad for the Ds.

FABULOUSLY RICH life of John McCain
Which religious wacko will say (on teevee) that God is punishing N.O. for gays and sex parades?
Not one in an election year. Crickets.
What have you been doing in court? Hepping out with the anarchists?
oh yeah right!
If the Media were
liberalcompetent, the R party would be history. That’s all I ask.
oh yeah right!
Especially when screaming. *g*
I am trying to imagine what Obama should be doing the next few days. Not to suggest that he try to capitalize politically on the hurricanes, at all. Just thinking that he would have spent the week making speeches and appearances to detract from the RNC coverage, now anything he does is likely to be viewed as political exploitation of a disaster.
He could go to New Orleans and work 12 hours a day with his own hands on disaster relief, and the Rs and the MSM would say he was taking political advantage of a human tragedy. He could lie low and do nothing, and the Rs and the MSM would attack him for doing nothing. What a dilemma.
Let’s see, Elliot!
new post
Pretty tall request if I may say so.
precisely.
You are being baited, CT. Some other places this act is called “concern trollng”.
Also, your detractor mistakes his not-so-sly inuendos for innocently “[merely] asking a question”.
Always. Nothing Obama does will please the MSM and nothing McCrazyOldBastard does will get them worked up against him.
If the Media were TRULY fair and balanced and “centrist” …
Someone on NPR today (can’t remember context …sorry) was saying that as in global warming reporting, the MSM STRIVES to give two sides to EVERY story, even when one is scientific fact and the other one is TOTALLY OFF THE WALL WRONG … so respectful to both sides, keeping a pseudo OPEN MIND to LIES in the name of GAMESMANSHIP to keep a “debate” going — thus morally misleading the citizenry.
St. John is a professional prisoner, a professional victim. He must have political Munchausen’s Syndrome, a willingness to sacrifice any political interest, constituents, the Constitution, whatever, to maintain his self-described essentialness to American government. In reality, government would run better without him at his best, much less when he expresses his disease.
That is not to denigrate POW’s from any war, just its relevance to Mr. McCain’s claim to be presidential material. The choice to fight, battle, capture, abuse, mistreatment, survival and return must sear themselves into the soul. They must all feel like today every day. For everyone but McCain, though, it happened forty years ago, his return thirty-five years ago, his first divorce nearly thirty years ago.
It has no positive bearing on his capacity to be president; the emotional scars and physical debility may mean he’s less qualified. That’s one reason he would never be able to obtain health insurance outside of government under the current insurance provider-profits dominated system. Which Mr. McCain doesn’t want to change because its lobbyists pay him big money and he’ll never need what they sell, another example of his political Munchausen’s.
Seems that McCain could be implying that he is also unqualified…doubt John was ever on a Town Council (I can’t see calling Wasilla a “city”) or a member of the PTA. And just how much energy does AZ produce? So why is HE at the head of the ticket?
Is McCain really suggesting that we should select our leaders by how much energy the places they govern produce. Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Venezuela must have some damn fine leaders then!
C’mon…this wman has about as many qualifications as Michael Brown the ex-Director of FEMA. Before taking over the reins of the Federal Emergency Management Agency Michael Brown only held one position in emergency management. The position was for the city Edmond, OK where he interned in college. Brown also previously held the position of commissioner of the International Arabian Horse Association.
PTA membership, NRA member, Mayor of Wasilla, Governor of a State where 80% of the budget is generated (through Constitutional fiat) from oil and gas leases and taxes. She inherited THAT wealth when she was elected…she didn’t “create” that.
PS I notice that McCain didn’t mention Palins membership in the National Right To Life and “Feminists for Life” organizations? I don’t think that Obama is a member of those EITHER!
Obama is doing the right thing, letting McCain try to make political hay out of a catastrophe.
Seems Repubs are getting all excited about all these turns of events. They can because they know whatever they do, no matter how bad it is, will be spun as a positive or ignored completely by Conglomerate Media, and somehow it’ll be bad for Dems.
Had a rare occasion of seeing a morning show today, and on “Face the Schieffer,” I don’t think they referenced the Dem convention or Obama’s speech at all. “The Speech” is perhaps the biggest political event in American history in terms of size and audience, and it doesn’t warrant a single second on a major political show just three days later?!?! And to top it off, they have only Repubs on (Bob seems to be one of the few calling Traitor Joe an “Independent Democrat”), and then only David Brooks for supposedly objective commentary. WTF?!?!
Been this way for decades now and we have entire generations that have grown up within this dynamic. Many of these people will be voting this Nov. This is why media reform/ownership issues need to be perhaps at the top of the list of things to fix. As you said, with actual journalism-the pursuit of truth-Killers like Shrub and Cheney would never be elected, and we wouldn’t be living in a Constitutional Crisis.
Obama said he would use his network of supporters and volunteers to help out after the hurricane, but that he would not go down there and get in the way!
He mentioned something today about organizing his immense email list to organize relief efforts. Seems like a really good way to approach this tragedy. Hopefully they’re figuring out the details now.
Hoping here that Rachel will be a barnburner.
No doubt. We’ve having some success with news coverage in the last few years, but damn, it is such an uphill battle still. All we can do is keep building on the little bit of momentum we have, right? Winning more elections on local levels would really help swing the pendulum faster as well Blue America!).
Although, thinking back yers ago to the first time I went to MichaelMoore.com, I remember getting really paranoid that now I was on some sort of watch list and thinking this was going to cause some problems for me (still probably true, I know). Now, 95% of my “news” comes from Liberal, or “centrist” Web sites. So, maybe we’ve come pretty far after all! Onward and Upward!
I thought he was in Afghanistan.
He could suggest a joint Republican/Democratic fundraiser for Gustav relief. Difficulty in finding common ground for where to hold it, but I’d suggest Minneapolis / St. Paul. There are already lots of people there who could work the phones.
