Starting off the day with a little Paul Simon singing "Mother And Child Reunion."  Seemed appropriate, considering The Peanut has not left my lap for more than seconds since I walked in the door last night from Denver.

I’ll be catching up on sleep for a week after all the convention hubbub.

Between the hike over to the Pepsi Center in the heat, dragging my laptop bag and assorted recording devices and notebooks over the sidewalks, through the park, and across the roads, only to stand in long security lines with well-heeled "special guests" and elected folk alike.   And then having to walk through said well-heeled types at the Finance posh deluxe crudite lounge (sponsored by Lexus!  with free AT&T tote bag!) to get to the blogger area in the convention hall.  Well, let’s just say that left a bit of a smarmy residue.

The good news was that the Pepsi Center had great air conditioning, the DNC staffers in the green room were AWESOME, the blogger seats inside the hall were fantastic — as was the useful ethernet hook-up — and the first floor had some yummy fresh squeezed lemonade which I bought myself after doing Young Turks.  Did I mention that I got to see Melissa Etheridge sing live?  ZOMG!

Best part of the week, though?  Getting to catch up with Jane, Pach, Dave, Egregious, Ian, Lindsay, and Marcy — and finally getting to meet Spencer in person.  (Don’t tell anyone, but he is such a sweetie.  I wouldn’t want to ruin his street cred rep.)  And sharing all the sights and sounds with you guys.

I’ll have much more on convention chatter as I process everything and catch up on sleep and coffee deficiency, but suffice it to say, it was a lot to take in all at once — from the oozy money pit through to having Lily Ledbetter show up at one of my panels.  Met some truly amazing people, a lot of whom were delegates whose faith that there can be something better, and willingness to put the work in to make necessary changes where they could, was inspiring.

But first, The Peanut needs another hug.

So, did I miss anything?  Pour another cuppa and pull up a chair…

PS:   Well, I did miss one thing while I was gone.  The Peanut had her first day of kindergarten.  Here she is, holding Daddy’s hand on the way down the hall to the classroom.  Thanks to my mom for taking pictures for me!
