Obama did something last night I thought was impossible — he made a soaring, yet practical case for the Democratic party, while simultaneously taking down Bush, McSame and the failures of their GOP. The Republicans thought he was just going to go out there and play the violin again, and he did — then promptly kneecapped them. Obama’s a political pugilist who makes music with his punches. And I’ve never seen anything like it.
A few media reax:
Barack Obama accepted the Democratic presidential nomination Thursday night with a scathing assessment of John McCain and a blunt indictment of the Bush administration, promising to repair "the broken politics of Washington" and preside over a more prosperous and equitable America.
Barack Obama accepted the Democratic Party presidential nomination on Thursday, declaring that the “American promise has been threatened” by eight years under President Bush and that John McCain represented a continuation of policies that undermined the nation’s economy and imperiled its standing around the world.
Barack Obama accepted the Democratic presidential nomination Thursday night on a specially constructed soundstage in Denver’s Invesco Field. His 44-minute speech mixed a searing indictment of his Republican opponent and the Republican incumbent with Clintonesque personal touches and Reaganesque optimism, promising to repair "the broken politics of Washington" and preside over a more prosperous and equitable America.
Sen. Barack Obama, the first African American to lead a major-party ticket, accepted the Democratic nomination for president Thursday night, sharply criticizing Republican John McCain and casting the election as "our chance to keep, in the 21st century, the American promise alive."
- The right doesn’t know what hit them.
- The McSame campaign sounded like they got punched in the gut.
- The Cornerites are delerious.
- Meanwhile, McSame’s picking a veep today — doesn’t look like Pawlenty, still could be Willard.
- Or someone from Alaska?

It may not be Pawlenty but it’s the bottom of the ninth and their down by ten and the bench if pretty thin. Read more. http://www.tagg-lines.com/2008…..lanty.html
I still think it’s Willard, though one wonders if it’s going to be Alaska’s gov now.
“kneecapped” – worked for me! *g*
Alaska,
Well that still won’t lock up even their 3 electoral votes.
There goes the “experience” line.
And what will Cokie say? If Hawaii was exotic, Alaska killed her daddy!
Who cares? All republicans are complete self jerks.. and dumd as fence posts too.
They have very little going for them in this election.
The economy is in the tank for the majority of voters.
The war has drained our treasury.
People are without heathcare.
Are we better off now after 8 yrs of repukes?
Our constitution has been used as toilet paper.
Our vets treated like pariahs.
Oh yea… they can appeal to the racists… a unifying meme for republicans.
selfish jerks and dumb as fence posts…
True, but Sarah Palin is a woman! They’ll get all those PUMAs!
You know, I keep wanting to kid myself into believing this guy is going to actually turn things around. And it was awesome seeing him walk onstage last night to accept the nomination.
But–then he spews the tired line of “clean coal” (there is no such thing) and nuclear energy being our rescuers from Big Oil…same old, same old.
We need someone with a little more creative thinking and courage to break the grip of oil, coal, and nuclear energies.
Yup. All eleven-ninety of ‘em.
Well, damn, I thought for sure you’d have Fournier’s reaction. Guess I’ll have to go find it for myself.
If one is not rich there’s only one reason one would support the Rethugs – stupidity.
Strange how all but one of the quotes start with the same words.
CNN and MSNBC currently breathless about Sarah Palin…doesn’t she have a “troopergate” problem? *Evil Grin*
Citizen Blue Texan:
Oh yeah, the Alaska governor actually would be the first intelligent political thing the McCrazy campaign has done…it may help get Alaska’s 3 electoral votes but it won’t save the scrawny asses of Young and Stevens.
Pantload needs help. He’s descending into the snakepit.
A belated good morning, pups. (Took a day off and slept in.) It’s Bobo and Krugman. In keeping with the Times’ current policy of publishing works of fiction on its editorial pages Bobo emulates MoDo at her worst. He’s produced an execrable piece of crap, a little fantasy piece he’s called “A Speech to the Delegates,” in which he says “We meet today to pass the torch to a new generation of Americans, a generation that came of age amid iced chais and mocha strawberry Frappuccinos®.” Listen up, you asshole, there are plenty of old white farts like me who support Obama so the entire premise of your “column” is crap. Just thought I’d let you know… Mr. Krugman writes about “Feeling No Pain,” and says that the difference between the parties is that Democrats say that working Americans are getting a raw deal and Republicans believe that people have nothing to complain about.

The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got waffles in honor of McCain and his big announcement today. Now for a second cup of tea, and then errands. Have a great day.
Wes Clark on MSNBC………
If Palin were to be selected and received votes from Hillary supporters, it would be a slap in the face to Hillary.
Palin vs. Biden? heheheheheh
How come no one on MSNBC is mentioning Giuliani and Lieberman.
Wow, Joe Scar is on fire and I agree (and no, I’m not drunk). What a completely cynical (and typically Rethug) move if it’s Palin.
MSNBC finally mentioned Lieberman and Ridge as possibilities but not Rudy.
Wrt to scar’s comment, if my teeth weren’t attached, they’d be on the floor right now. *g*
According to MSNBC.com, it won’t be Pawlenty or Romney.
They’re afraid it will be one of them. I can hear it now:
Bring out yer dead. Clang. Bring out yer dead.
I wonder if Rove has told McSame who the VP pick is yet.
Talk about bending with the wind. Any dead interns around?
The takeaway portion of Sully’s piece (a piece worth reading in its entirety):
The shorter version:
Obama, Obama Ali!
He floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee!
This is called “rope-a-dope”, my friends. Rope-a-dope done the way a Shaolin monk would do it. Let your opponent dig his own hole, wear himself out building up a confection of nonsense — then smash it down with a series of well-aimed punches. Punches that you have the strength to make, because you’re still rested.
“You’re not fooling anyone, y’know!”
Being from Minnesota, I had really thought it would be Pawlenty. Haven’t quite given up that idea, but picking a woman is probably the only card left McCain has to play. If the fight between the Clintons and Obama has been put to rest, and I think it has although Joe Scarborough and Fox might drum on it for awhile, then picking a woman might make some women (who have no clue what McCain really stands for YET) might bring some votes to him.
I had always believed that much of the Clinton/Obama fight has been generated by McCain people — stoking the fires of disagreement. And there are many in the Clinton camp – Begala and Carville – who would love to make trouble for Obama.
I am now 50/50 Pawlenty or Palin. Young, small children, female — she might fool some women. If they have their ears shut.
Obama speech the perfect capstone to the Democratic convention. Let’s us all get on the bus!
So Paw-lenty’s been told: no, no, no, it ain’t you, babe?
Lookin’ like the rethug veepstakes is all about the Bush Dynasty movin’ right along…Rove playin’ cleaner on L’il Lie-Bee, Paw-lenty not gettin’ to cross that bridge.
If it’s Romney, it’s all about the Bush Third Term linin’ up for the third Bush President.
Where did I see that yesterday?
Last nights speech was amazing. There is not doubt that our candidate will rise above the petty politics but also throw a punch or two if he needs.
Wow! The toobz are flyin’ too fast for me this morning….Palin? I think that’s a red herring, er, sturgeon, er, salmon, er…I could be wrong…
Cavuto on Imus bashing Obama’s saying we measure our economy not by our # of billionaires but by our working workers…
I expect Cokie will find Alaska to the as American as Mom, apple pie, and waterboarding. I will be surprised if she doesn’t declare the last frontier of the true America. Where the men are men, not latte drinking effete liberals.
Just a guess.
Another random thought about the speech last night: the backdrop, to me, didn’t look like Roman or Greek columns at all. No, the lighting of the window frames was reminiscent of the oval office-a clear intent to portray Obama as Presidential. I thought it worked quite well.
And McCain’s VP? I read something yesterday about how Brownback was still a possibility but I’ve still got my fingers crossed for Lieberman. Not only would it get him out of the Senate, it would kill his political career completely.
Imus: typical Democratic jive, talking about the workers, not the entrepreneurs….
So they’re both in total spin mode, totally ignoring Obama’s talk of tax cuts for, wait for it, entrepreneurs.
It’s not fair to John McCain, says Cavuto…..
Republicans want a candidate to inspire the filthy rich…WE have a candidate that inspires the nation. Never in my lifetime have I EVER seen a ‘presidential hopeful’ with this much intellegence and also knows how to use it for the common good and America’s and it’s people’s best interest…thank God for Barack Obama.
gov.state.ak.us running really slow this morning. My guess is it’s Palin.
It may be too much to hope for, but what a lovely gift that would be!
It would only get him out of the Senate if McSFB won. After January we can keep him shackled in a dark broom closet in the basement of the Capitol, where he can do no damage.
The tax cuts for 95% has got them pissing their pants. Seein’s how these fenderhead pundits and blowhards are all part of that other 5%. Wish I could get 20 million per for bein’ a fool.
Wonder if John McCain’s birthday party will feature a cake with the VP nominee popping out? Pity it isn’t Rudy, he’d love doing that.
Yeah, wrote too soon-not enough caffeine yet. I meant out of the Democratic Party-finally.
Haven’t read comments here, but Pawlenty has told our local rag he’s not going to Dayton. (Well, it depends on what one means by “not” . . .)
David Brooks announced after Obama’s speech that it was actually disappointing and rather ordinary. You heard it here first. Bottom feeders, all of ‘em.
Off to chemo.
I would be happy if I could get my year 2000 annual salary and benefits back.
Republican operatives are all over the airwaves this morning some disguised others not so much. On NPR this morning two of three commentarians were McCain supporters singing the spin. “Well, it was a pretty good speech, but you know in the context of a rock star appearance. And, of course, a rock star is not qualified to hold the most important office in the world, etc.”
It’s going to be a long two-plus months for people that are paying attention, who care about the truth, for other people, and Barack Obama. The Republicans are going to make this the filthiest, most disgusting campaign ever.
I don’t mean to rain on any parades or anything but if Liarman is picked the only way he would not be back in the senate is if he won.
OH POOR POOR Peggy Noonan, just slammed the Obama speeech
BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITCH
oh sweet …best of luck
I, for one, would be pleased for McCain to bait the PUMA’s into a nice orderly place. I hate disorder and just couldn’t find any place for them that didn’t pre-exist the Englightenment. They’ve had well over their fifteen minutes of fame and it would be best for them either to sink to the bottom or just float on top of the Republican Party.
Noonan is saying that no one will remember his speech in 6 months. She might be right because they will be focusing on his inaugural speech.
Off to chemo.

One more thing. Friends were here with us last night to watch Obama. We crafted the perfect ad in honor of McBush’s birthday. A small cake crammed with 72 candles, and people all around it shading their eyes with hands, arms to fend off the light. An unseen person begins to blow the candles out. Candles are extinguished a few at a time. Repeated blows. But wait! They’re the trick candles, and they relight. Whatever. I am so sick of those people.
shut up Peggy ,you are pathetic
While at the same time pissing his pants and thinking, “We are so f*ked.”
I turned it off before I had to listen to his drivel.
Suck. On. This. Bobo.
MSNBC -
Now I understand why people LOATHE “peggy no nothing” from the WSJ!
msnbc===andrea taking on moonan-whom i am naming ‘leona’
she kept getting the #s of the crowd wrong, too, on purpose…
andrea kickin’ her ass with facts…
I was makin’ a hell of lot more money in 2000 than I am now. Like twice what I make now.
oh and Peggster,Redheads,should,NEVER ,NEVER,NEVER wear ORANGE…you look awful,and show terrible judgement…bwahahahahahaahahaha
Andrea Mitchell is doing a decent job discussing the speech. Is it possible that both she and her husband know the country is being flushed down the toilet along with his reputation.
i am sickened by what noonan just said about the stories candidates tell about hardships of americans.
and the other two who laughed…
andrea wasn’t laughing.
now Pegster, has made them all laugh about CHILDS HEALTHCARE ISSUES….i shit you not…they are so pathetically out of touch…THEY WILL LOSE BIG just sayin
Peggy, of course, has no dog in the hunt regarding the quality of speeches. Did her complexion have a greenish cast?
am writing a thank you note to her.
they are so freakin out of touch,up in their rarified air….MURDOCH obviously sent her out to do A BIG HIT piece this morning…it is a dismal failure, and Scarpitts is a major tool
I’d say Greenspan’s reputation got flushed some while back, with Bernanke’s soon to follow.
she is so pathetic, old dried up grizzle
That was breathtaking…I think there’s an ad there somewhere…it’s genetically impossible for them to feel compassion for others.
Gotta go, but it’s always fun reading the comments. Have a good day folks. Palin is still in Alaska.
Peggy…Bobo…William…It’s their jobs to spout R talking points. As someone said, Obama could find a cure for cancer and they’d still find a way to criticize him. My sense is they don’t *really* care what Obama does or doesn’t do or say, they’ll still have jobs after November. Many Rs whose jobs actually depend on the election are shitting now, or are getting out already (see the number of R retirements from Congress).
I take back the “loathe”; sadlyyes nailed it with “BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITCH”!
Sadly yes.
isnt that how they speak ,at their cocktail parties with Crab Rangoon, and vintage Dom….its kinda cool we finally see on camera…how EXTREMELY DISGUSTING repukes are
you rang?
good …they sold the rest of us out, years ago
Peggy go crawl under your rock from which you emerged
good mornin,howz the kids?
Peggy just defines the word unctuous.
1. Characterized by affected, exaggerated, or insincere earnestness: “the unctuous, complacent court composer who is consumed with envy and self-loathing” Rhoda Koenig.
2. Having the quality or characteristics of oil or ointment; slippery.
3. Containing or composed of oil or fat.
4. Abundant in organic materials; soft and rich: unctuous soil.
Rocks don’t go that deep. :-(
she isnt even that moist….she is old dried up grizzle, ready to blow away in the wind
Sorry for a horrifying off-topic.
But Hanna is joining Gustov on their race to our shores.
By Wednesday, everyone from Texas to South Carolina are gonna be feeling their one-two punch.
Crap.
LOL!
oh poop,im flying to Fl.
No nothing can’t even pronounce Barack’s name correctly.
Peggy “Nuremburg” Noonan is on GE TeeVee. The day after she compares Democrats and Obama to Nazis, she is spouting her Hate. I will not call her names because PUMAS may call me sexist. But she deserves a few names.
Actually Mornin Joe’s panel has three neocons, Mrs. Greenspan, the Nooner, and some guy who looks like a pedophile. Unfair and Unbalanced as usual from the Corporate criminals.
i just wish she’d learn how to pronounce Barack’s name. geeeez….
Andrea Greenspin is sounding like a human being today.Guess she looked at hubbys bank acct, and decided they are set for life, and she can stop spinning madly for the GOOPERS
Hanna projected track
its to marginalize the uppity house N**** who cares about children with 2 heads
just wrote andrea a thank you note through spotlight..
she has done an excellent job this week..the other night after the biden speech was amazing. and now doing her best to keep it factual this morning…even just brought up how dems boomeranging back from bush years….am now taping it, cuz local radio call-in show is on…..local man just said liberal marxist speech, didn’t say where he’s gonna get the money….guess he didn’t listen to the end. he’s a regular repub, ron paul guy. someone’ll rip him a new one, if not, i’ll be dialing….remember i’m ‘info lady’ on there.
guy calling explaining how obama DID explain, and brought up lost iraq money.
bbl..
Here’s yer Coke! *G*
Thank god it’s not Pawlenty. Although I would have dearly loved to see him be part of a losing ticket, he would have radiated lethal levels of smugness for weeks. Now instead we can ask, “If he’s not going to be the candidate, why did he spend the last six years ruining our state?”
did biden vote for the mci and patriot act? need a quick answer.
i was stunned how she revealed her hate, and cynicism
(bows) Konnichiwa
Tearing the place up, as usual. Tryin’ to make cigs and Shiimsa knocks a freshly opened box of tubes onto the floor. Sheesh.
oh if he picks Lieberwurst
mine are the wrecking crew also……little tigers for sure…im learning Adobe Premeire..im all thumbs

Short Ride. Oh, Wakan Tanka, let it be Short Ride.
Chemical composition of thugs: 50% hate/50% cynicism
Gotta go run errands before the flood of holiday people. Guess y’all will know the veep by the time I return…….have fun.
Hey SD do you know Lakota
Well Peggy, do you think it would have helped if Senator Obama had begun every other sentence with, “my friends”? Wouldn’t a plain yellow-green background have been better than that elborate setting? Wouldn’t it have been better to limit the audience to a few nodding suspender wearers? Doesn’t it work better if the speaker follows a grim warning about the possibility of having to nuke someone with a little arbitrary smile? Ah Peggy, we can’t wait to see how it’s done.
Sadly, no, but I’ve picked up a lot of the spirituality of the Lakota.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.
Namaste
