As Jane noted yesterday,
Police in Denver arrested an ABC News producer today as he and a camera crew were attempting to take pictures on a public sidewalk of Democratic Senators and VIP donors leaving a private meeting at the Brown’s Palace Hotel.
… Eslocker and his ABC News colleagues are spending the week investigating the role of corporate lobbyists and wealthy donors at the convention for a series of Money Trail reports on ABC World News with Charles Gibson.
See for yourself. Ugly stuff.

It ain’t exactly Chicago 68- but it’s NEWS
Wonder how the Pubics will handle security?
Is it over yet?
Thanks for publicizing this BT. Hey Balrog! Long time no see!
The producer was very lucky no traffic was coming when he got pushed into the street by the policeman. Shouldn’t the policeman be prosecuted for attempted murder? He didn’t look for oncoming traffic before he pushed the guy.
No shit.
Thank you, BT!
Ugly stuff, indeed. Not to mention Third-Worldly.
So glad this was videotaped. Not that the M$M will run it…
I’m really disappointed that there’s been no offical response from the Party. I mean, talk about an issue central to who (they say) we are and want to be as a nation.
FunnyD
on the local call-in show this morning, lots of people called about this, he’s from here, seohio….one man said he was in his son’s wedding a few weeks ago. people were really mad. knocking dems. said both parties the same.
who bailed him out? abc? or the aclu?
just wondered.
bbl.
Was this guy was trying to get arrested? He worked real hard at it.
Why is the virginia governor quoting the bible?
This is just the beginning. And we can’t even blame the repubs. It was the dems who wanted their identity hidden.
Are you a member of the Colorado Bar? Maybe you or a colleague could take this on as a pro bono thingie. Not that I think you or your colleagues actually need more pro bono work–I’m sure all y’all are more than pulling your weight on that front.
FunnyD
My first thought this morning.. I bet the ACLU will defend this journalist before his employer ABC Disney considers it. And we wonder why our journalists (and citizenry for that matter) are afraid to speak truth to power.
Er, what would you do if you had a cop pushing you in the street? Seems to me like he did better than I would.
I read somewhere that he used an ABC credit card to post bail.
Did you forget your snark tag?
Funny D.
Don’t make me come over there and read you the First Amendment.
Tim Kaine givin a real soporific speaking experience.
ABC showed that clip on their evening news.
He’s tryin ta prove that all dems are not Godless heathens.
Hopefully I would at that point realize that these guys were serious and regroup. He who fight and run away live to fight another day. Just sayin’.
I have a feeling that there will be no shortage of lawyers willing, or even vying, to represent that guy.
And since when do private property lines go all the way to the !@$#@$!# street? Don’t most cities make restaurants get a permit for sidewalk seating? Ergo, it’s NOT private property?
Feh. If I wanted to live in (blankety blank) Egypt, I’d bloody well sell up and move there. Especially since it’s one of the few places the US Dollar buys a lot.
FunnyD
Gettin arrested is a good thing for a reporter- he’s got a STORY!
Is Bill Richardson sportin’ a mullet?
Richardson: McCain may hundreds of dollars for his shoes, but we will pay for his flipflops.
That’s VERY easy to say when you’re not being shoved. I hear you though.
Ohhhhh, good one. Can’t wait for the YouTube of that!
Thunderous applause?
FunnyD
BBL, gotta go home now.
Oops, funny fingers on the keys. That should read:
Richardson: McCain pays hundreds of dollars for his shoes, but we will pay for his flipflops.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t condone this shit for a minute.
I do too. It’s just that it seems that the Powers That Be keep seeing the strategic retreats as victories and excuses to keep right on pushing the limits.
FunnyD
He was on the sidewalk outside Brown’s Palace (sp). Sidewalk. Directing a film crew. Last I knew sidewalks were public turf, tho the hotel claims differently. Watch again. He was not trying to get arrested. “You’re under arrest, buster”. Maybe they mistook him for a blogger.
Either that or a really bad wig.
Richardson:”Is anyone going to miss Dick Cheney?”
‘course ya don’t! Knew that.
(((Balrog)))
How’s WeeRog?
FD
i don’t think so….around here, the cops talk first, shove second….his first thing out of his mouth was ‘why?’ and the cop just kept getting more aggressive, he kept asking ‘why?’
around here, the cop would have said.
he knew he was on the sidewalk, i bet he never dreamed anyone would say anything.
i think since he got shoved, he knew he had the right to know why.
good.
See me @ 21.
Great minds.
For Realzies…
POOF!
Richardson: Elect a President who says he will support the Constitution and then does.
No to torture
Domestic spying
Yes to the Bill of Rights
And a woman’s right to choose.
Wow, Richardson not afraid to hit all the dem positions.
Sic em Bil
You’d think the police would have the sense to watch what they do when they are being taped.
Yes- I read yours after I typed mine!
If a cop shoves me, it had better be because I’m about to get hit by a truck.
Weerog is fine, thanks FD.
Police State!! Our rights trampled on again! What happened to freedom of the press?? I hope that Eslocker sues the city of Denver! ABC should make a big fuss over this mistreatment of their reporter and make it a headliner on every news program!! But I bet ABC doesn’t ..oh yeah it is a Disney Chanel and we know owns that :>(
that cop is almost certainly looking at disciplinary action.
Hiya Tex.
What’s everyone doing tonight?
My favorite part of that tape is the way some cops lined up to hide what was going on behind them. Looked like it was SOP in case there’s a little rough stuff.
Been in and out of meetings all day. Anything happen?
Harry Reid is crafting a strong letter as we speak.
I do wonder if they knew they were shoving and arresting an ABC producer, not some DFH blogger in Denver to stir up trouble.
Digg this post
Hell- no baton- no blood- no nothin….
Man the arena is packed solid! They just played some heartland music by Sugarland! “Who says you can’t go home”.
You’re showing your age, rw. ;)
heh – the usual after-action report justifying his action – even the back-up testimony of those officers, aren’t gonna work nearly as well as usual if the ABC cameraman was rolling from the start.
Stevie Wonder!
Tis exactly just that, they don’t want everything filmed. But there is enough I think for a great lawsuit against Denver and said cop. He was in both clips and leading the force full action….. Way beyond the norm.
I’m watching the convention. Assume everyone else is doing the same.
Stevie Wonder up now!!!
digg this
and upvote on reddit
and spotlight it across the McCainStreamMedia
spread the word!
I already did my DIGGING! How about you??
cool!
I hope Stevie Wonder sings ‘America’. I’ll probably cry.
I think he’s done a lot of stops with Obama – he played here in Indianapolis before Obama spoke.
Fear can’t put dreams to sleep.
I forgot to add “They are just doing what Rush told them to do” You know riot riot …. but I thought is was supposed to be the DFH’S doing the rioting /S
Did you see the guy on stage wearing a t-shirt that says “BARACK THE VOTE” – haven’t seen that before.
That’s great and so is Stevie.
FunnyD: I’m not an attorney; just a former science geek.
Dang, went outside with my wife to take carrots to the horses and brush them a bit and I missed Richardson. Thanks to those of you who live-blogged. Sounds like he did a good job.
Guess so
Man, that’s nothing compared to what they did to a female CodePinker a couple of days ago:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNKdxLGNJ4k
F-ing tough guy attacks a much smaller woman from behind. Can you believe this shit. Damn I wish I was there. That dude woulda regretted he did that to her. Trust me. And it woulda been worth my eventual jailing. Damn I hate that shit.
yeah, i bet some ears were burnin’ in the precinct that night..at a late night meeting.
and, bet the kid was talking to someone at abc at the time…he was on a cell phone. i think that’s why he was describing what was happening out loud.
and he was listening when the cop first came up up to him, like he getting instructions.
jmho.
Hey gang — I’m watching along with you guys on teevee tonight. I was too exhausted to fight through the crowds today after a very long week, so I’m cozy in my sweats in the hotel room, and jamming to Stevie Wonder along with y’all.
How is everyone? Ready for some convention liveblogging?
but I thought is was supposed to be the DFH’S doing the rioting /S
nope –
RepublicanDisney operatives.now wondering why I bothered with the strike feature….
i feed the horsies carrots or apples mostly every day

Damn! A call from Rasmussen just ruined he first part of Stevie Wonder’s performance for me. Oh, well, this is the first time a major pollster has polled me!
Oh hell yes! Is this a party or what?
Very Cool Beans.
SAVE YOUR ENERGY FOR THE BIG CELEBRATION
Yeah — I am so tired. And we were really worried about connectivity at the stadium, it’s really limited. So I volunteered to stay behind and blog and let someone else have my pass so they could watch everything live. I got to see everything last night and it was awesome. Someone else deserved a turn…and I don’t have to deal with crowds.
i’m with ‘ya!
Al Gore coming up next…
Gore em Al!!
oh i wish his mother was here
the psyched energy is contagious
I think it sounds like heaven. Got some snacks to add to the experience?
Obama will get us universal healthcare..i feel it in these old bones
Thanks!

ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
What! You’re in Denver but not a Mile-High?
I don’t think she mentioned that one way or the other… *g*
must have a cocktail now…….parteeeeeeeee
ya know, today, for a miriad of reasons, i was thinking about back when i used to wonder why couldn’t the grown ups picture things that could be done. what happened to them that made them so jaded, so worn out. i used to say to them, what would you do about it if you were nineteen? would you just say oh well?
so, today, i was thinking, maybe a few grown ups are actually doing that.
here’s the real rock star. gore.
Hi Christy!
Al looks great
Seems like folks there inside are havin’ a good time with makin’ history happen!

Seize the opportunity!
Here are my Stevie Wonder snacks. Have some Obama ones in the fridge for later.
come on…..lets dance…get on up
No contempt for the Constitution!
In honor of Ken Mehlman, I’m drinking Merlot. (Actually, that’s all I had in the house)
Al …..stay close …we need ya
wait,wait for me…ill toast you,and ALL DEMS

Rule of Law !
That’s the Q: Why is this election so close.
clink….to the USA
yup status quo= comfortable shit
ok all USers
That’s a good one: McCain has allowed his party to browbeat him. A bitch slap from a D. Never thought I’d live so long.
look at that LOVELY diverse crowd….clink to them all
what do ya think?? But of course we are!!
i heart Al mightily
ain’t it beautiful, i’m hopin’ this is al’s revenge moment.
with elan, of course.
Normally I don’t have any desire for revenge, but since W I’ve changed my makeup.
Go AL go… Tell it like it truly is!! CHANGE! CHANGE!
Who would have thought back in 2000 that Al Gore had it in him? What a different country we would be now had he fought for his rightful place in the White House.
Boy does AL speak fast I guess he just making sure he is hitting all the bases and boy are there a lot of bases to cover!
my favorite move-on ad
This speech is indeed a thing of beauty.
Not a barn-burner, but solid and eloquent.
Ditto Kerry.
One of my major sources of disgust is too little too late.
Let’s hope BO turns his campaign around with the convention.
I’m thinking it lacks passion.
Just me, but this might be my favorite speech so far.
I’ll take solid and eloquent any time.
mine is a Shiraz Pinotage
yes he speaks with utter CONVICTION
I think so too, and I’ve heard Gore give a passionate speech in NYC.
Still, think of the sound bites. Brilliant on that score. Can’t extract a single sentence that doesn’t condemn Rs or praise BO.
Think Gore has “moved on”, as they say, from politics.
That was solid and eloquent, but as far as booming to the mat speeches, Gore’s Constitution Hall speech gets the nod.
.
Chris Matthews was opining tonight, and I didn’t catch it all, but I think his point was that maybe the Dems didn’t destroy the repubs because their goal was not only to unite dems, but also to unite all Americans.
yep…i mean the kind when you throw the truth back and it crushes those that ruined your life, you come back in brand new armour and open your mouth say nothing but the truth, tellin’ like it is….cuz they don’t have anything they can do to you. not really.
he knows the game, he was vice-president for 8 years.
i think he could have said more.
i would have liked it if he would have said more.
CHS Gore thread upstairs
bonkers, we are usually admonished to not ‘involve’ ourselves (remembering a video-taped incident in D.C. where a man who was a pastor or minister had his leg broken by the Capital police), but I suspect that there are those with the courage and conviction to dare to stand for more than the appearance of ‘order’.
I appreciate that you might find yourself being such a person.
While ‘wisdom’ might often be the better part of valor, there comes a time when it is no such thing, as you realise, I am certain.
The link you provided might well have been such a time.
When the police riot, they are out of control and a menace to all they are sworn, by what should be a sacred oath, to uphold.
Perhaps they need to be reminded of that.
When Senator Biden spoke of the middleclass last night, it was policemaen and firemen whom he first mentioned, owing, I am certain to his own tragic experiences. But Senator Biden is old enough and hopefully wise enough to grasp some broader truths. It is up to him to show the rest of us that he remembers Chicago and that he has not forgotten that the experieces of others are just as compelling as his own, even if such experiences reveal very different truths.
I personally think it will be telling if Obama and Biden ‘forget’, however conveniently, these other ‘truths’ and it will not augar well for their capacity to govern or to genuinely ‘understand’ what ‘change’ actually means and MUST entail.
I just heard the last part of Al Gore’s speech. It was good, but he sounded like he was in a hurry. He didn’t slow down, like Hillary did, to milk the lines that needed milking– didn’t really give the crowd time to supply the applause that they wanted to on some of his quips.
I especially liked his line about the Constitution (sorry, no script, and my fingers aren’t as quick as Marcy’s).
Bob in HI
matthews said a lot of things last night that shocked me……he brought up point after point the things dems didn’t bring up about the bush administration…no kidding.
Yeah, I liked that line of Al’s.
BTW, you’ve got mail downstairs. I answered one of your questions.
Bob in HI
mmmmmm michael

and a solo career.
that’s why i said mmmmmmmm michael.
I hope we’re not being conned. Just saying. You never know when you are dealing with pros. The ABC thing at a Dem convention smells of the big con. Maybe we’re just getting a more friendly dictator.
Since when are the cops taking orders from the management at the Brown Palace Hotel?
Ugly. It looks like one of the officers grabbed him around the throat, and then they tell him to “relax.” Why do officers carry out orders with sadistic enthusiasm, when it’s really in their interest as working class persons to let ABC get a story out about big money from big donors, possibly going against their interests and their families, in a system that is supposed to be “free, fair and democratic”?
