The beauty of what’s happening is that we don’t need to win people over like that anymore to win. Obama with his positive message, and the grassroots infrastructure that was given a shot in the arm by Howard Dean, are bringing so many new people into the process, young and year-enhanced, that the new people far outweigh the leftover mentalities.

Still a ways to go, and the actual showing up on election day is crucial, but we’re so far ahead of any previous elections, at least in my lifetime, that I don’t worry about expending any energy on people “set in their ways” so to speak. Simply don’t need them to win. Are time and energy is better spent on registering and talking to middle-grounders.

No it’s not official but it is either Pawlenty or someone not on the short list. That is, if it IS to be announced tomorrow, it will be Pawlenty.

Hey you guys, Ron, Steve (neighbor) and I helped the fish and game department catch a poacher on Saturday. Steve takes photos of the wild life on Saturday morning back on American river right behind our house. For three saturdays this smuck was spearfishing stripers. He had a wet suit, spear gun and a raft to put the fish in. When he was done he would fold up the raft that turned into a backpack and walk out. On saturday Steve went down and hid. He called us when the dude showed up. Ron called the warden and I went and took pictures of the license plates of the cars in the parking lot where he would probably park. As I took a photo of a black bmw suv he walked into the lot. I drove around and got a photo of this guy in his gear getting into the suv. I called Ron and told him what kind of car it was and he called the warden. Then I went to a four way stop to wait for the warden. The guy left. When I got home Ron called the warden again and said that he had gotten away. The warden said, “Dude, I have him right here on the sideway. I got him.” He was charged with poaching and carrying a dangerous weapon. The warden called today and said that the DA may file charges. The jerk is an engineer. and a poacher.

When will someone on our side write the definitive refutation to the mythical “success of the surge.” It’s a figment of right-wing imagination and needs to be smacked down hard by someone much more talented than myself. What the fuck is wrong with people? They are going to keep clobbering us with this crap until we scream back.

For example, last Thursday or Friday evening, Dan Rather was interviewing some experts on the Sunni Awakening. In the course of the interview he led off a question with the claim that “By now, even Barack Obama agrees that the Surge has been successful, …”

I have no idea of whether or not Obama has agreed, but I have heard from multiple sources that he took down from his web site all references to the surge failing.

We can’t let this matter go unaddressed.

nice trip, yes. there seemed to be a harmonic convergance of sorts when my relatives’ plans to be in Colorado coincided with the Convention. But not being a delegate or a well-placed crony made the Convention part of it less than ideal–no access. but the chance to be together with my family made it worthwhile. had a leisurely trip home and watched The Speech with friends at a watch party tonite. it would have been nice to be in the stadium but it wasn’t meant to be. so it goes.

And he seems to focus on insulting any Democrat , Republican, or Independent that supports Obama. When you insult half (or more) of your papers readership you will likely face retribution from lowered subscriptions and readership. Ad dollars will decline.

I think that Brooks had to write a sarcastic satire since any actual reference to the speech that actually was given would demonstrate his utter lack of analytical ability. Or a lack of analytical capacity in evaluating THAT speech. If he had tried he would have simply been shown to be the partisan hack he so truly is. Brooks could have written this little essay months ago. It was filled with all the elitist stereotypes of Obama supporters and Democrats.

The story of this election just might be Michelle Bernard, MSNBC political analyst and rabid conservative, who has become a staunch supporter of Barack Obama.

I take this as an indication that Obama is a mind-changer, motivating people to do things they would not otherwise consider doing.

BTW, I thought Obama’s speech was excellent, but with one flaw from my point of view: he said almost nothing about restoring the Constitutional order of things, did he? I can’t find the word “Constitution” anywhere in his speech.

I was also disturbed by the way he ended his speech:

“We cannot walk alone,” the preacher cried. “And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead. We cannot turn back.”

America, we cannot turn back. Not with so much work to be done. Not with so many children to educate, and so many veterans to care for. Not with an economy to fix and cities to rebuild and farms to save. Not with so many families to protect and so many lives to mend. America, we cannot turn back. We cannot walk alone. At this moment, in this election, we must pledge once more to march into the future. Let us keep that promise – that American promise – and in the words of Scripture hold firmly, without wavering, to the hope that we confess.

This sounds like it was written by Nancy Pelosi. His words above sound exactly like what Nancy Pelosi declared in 2006 after the election, as she was taking impeachment off the table. This worries me.
