So, what did you think? I hear David Brooks wasn't that impressed on PBS but, honestly, Obama lost him at "the market won't take care of everything." YAWN Someone's stuck in the politics of the past.

E N O U G H !!!
One to Remember
Funny he mentioned in his opening all the other candidates… but only Hillary by name, then Big Dog et al
If I were Edwards or Kucinich, I might be a tad pissed.
Great Speech!!!!!!
I didn’t get to hear the whole speech yet. (Back to School Night) but I sure appreciate your liveblogging. David Brooks is hopeless, so I look forward to hearing people I respect.
Kinda makes me feel like this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5IIXeR5OUI
Oh, and Bobo can suck on this. Gergen too.
OMG it was magical…. it was wonderful to see the gauntlet being thrown down… Elmore and I were in tears through most of it…… Obama took MLK’s check and cashed it and NOW we have to take it too the bank!
YAWN Someone’s stuck in the politics of the past.
Stuck in dark, smelly place.
See ya later…. Off to celebrate with Pai Thia noodles
A good speech. There were points that even I didn’t agree with but what the hell, I’m just one guy out of millions.
The wingers are going to screaming about his gun stance, they have been whining about that for a while.
I liked that he called out Little Johnny for some debate action and that he took several swipes at Bush.
Closing loopholes and tax breaks is way over due.
A good speech.
So, what did you think?
I think MSNBC is so schizophrenic I’m afraid to get anywhere near my teevee.
Is that contagious?
Shorter Chuck Todd: McCain and the Rs in some deep kim chee.
I absolutely loved it. Ditch the clean coal idea and it rises to 100%!
I was surprised he brought up guns. Pleasantly surprised.
Taking the wood to Phil ‘nation of whiners’ Gramm was totally sweet.
My favorite line:
Also, of course:
Where have I heard that before? *g*
Hitting on all cylinders, sweeping, not mean-spirited but frank, candid, uplifting, thoughtful, brilliant. An excellent piece of oratory. Bravo!
ohhhhhhhh 707!
We have a winner!!
“Enough!”
What a marvelous speech. American seems to be creeping closer to that promise Obama talked about - all men are created equal. I think we’ll get there in November.
That’s an awful image you just put in my head.
Suzanne, got any brain bleach?
We watched on PBS. Heard the command by David Brooks. Jim Lehrer gave the last word to the what’s his name who corrected what Brooks got way wrong about lack of inclusion. Jim Lehrer seems to be aping David Brinkley, btw.
I am still climaxing…
Whatever event they have planned for tomorrow to announce his running mate - will look pretty pale in comparison to what we just saw.
No. I’ve seen some stuff about internal bickering at M$NBC but don’t know whether it’s just hype or what. Are the nitwits scared shitless about Rachel and KO?
Edwards made it impossible for the other candidates’ names to be mentioned. If Richardson, Dodd, Gravel, and Kucinich feel overlooked tonight, they can send a letter to Chapel Hill. No way Barack Obama was gonna mention Edwards’ name tonight. Or maybe ever.
Add the nuclear bit and I’m there.
Where have I heard that before? *g*
can’t remember exactly, but it must have come from someone brilliant, huh? *g*
The only person Edwards gets to be pissed at is himself.
…comment by David Brooks. Jim Lehrer not so much aping as channeling David Brinkley.
“Make no mistake, JSM’s service was honorable, but…bIFF,BOOM,thOINK,ka-POW!”
I’ll take Brooks and Dunn
The CNN quick poll asking if the Dems made the case for electing Obama is at 76% yes 24% no.
http://www.cnn.com/
***hitting big blue button on the new fangled brain bleach sprinkler system***
no kidding.
What happened with Richardson? He was supposed to speak yesterday, got postponed and, far as I know, disappeared into the ether.
David Brooks looked shell shocked.
think 2×4’s…2×4’s…
All I know is that if I were a Republic, I would be utterly intimidated by this show of arms!
Dancing in the Streets here
Good lawdy, just switched to cnn - its hilarious- 9 stooges on stools all in a row w/ maestro wolf in the lead = everyone in the vicinity needs to roll their pants up
He spoke tonight or this afternoon, he was good.
Aw, now ya got it in my Vernors.
I have been living in downtown San Francisco for two years and this si the first time (during the speech) that there was virtually no one on the street. Not even the crackheads.
Richardson spoke earlier this evening. Gave a good speech!
he gave a great speech - am hoping it will be up soon
TSF & wangdang
forgot /s
sorry
good….send him some Cialis
THe world is applauding the Democratic agenda amd their presidential team. Went to a Move On house party was nice to see Gore’s speech threough to Barack. Good vibes.
David Gergen. Is he a Dee Cee Village Idiot, or is he just a generic idiot.
…or gobsmacked.
He made a great speech this afternoon.
This speech had too much work to do for poetry. But, work it did and with plenty of grace. Payday is November Fourth.
He’s on the sauce
Good speach before Gore tonight
Evenin’ Mr Dragon
don’t think it’s hype. I think Russert’s death has brought about some jockeying - which, with the monumental egos involved, has evolved in to full blown internecine cube wars
this VP thinks Scar is the shizznit, Tweety has no visible patron, Olbermann star is clearly on the rise, somewhere David Gregory’s backer is kicking himself . . .you know - ’cause Rachel’s backer “won”, - the usual corporate bullshit :D
…and I’m pretty impressed with Chris Matthews tonight
I totally agree with you.
both…they gather there
We forgive you.
Now pass that thing over here. *g*
Michelle Bernard sure is brave to sit co close to Tweety wearing that skirt. He’s going to start drooling any second.
David Brooks has his head permanently implanted up his ass. On the other hand, one thing I have noticed is that he always says the most effective Democratic speeches are uninspiring, etc., etc. I suspect that David actually just pissed his pants.
Breathtaking.
It’s up to each one of us to make this happen. An Obama Admin with More and Better Dems (Donna Edwards, Alan Grayson, Darcy Burner, etc.) on Capitol Hill…imagine that for a moment. Never seen anything like before in my life.
It’s up to us now. The Dems could not have made a better a convention. Whatever happens with polls now is our fault for not spreading their message enough through ACTION, and the Conglomerate Media’s stranglehold over our public discourse.
Another triumph of the Howard Dean/Obama mentality of ground up, people powered politics. It’s just the beginning.
Well, pups, it’s gonna be difficult to get to sleep after that speech; tomorrow looks a lot brighter! Y’all go well……..
True that.
The part where he neutralized the Republicans on the patriotism issue was very effective.
He’s going to do very well in the debates.
The best convention I’ve ever seen. Spent half the time listening chocked up with emotion.
For entertainment purposes only, what will McCain require next week to match Obama’s acceptance speech?
The gates of hell, cave where he lives line launched me off the couch and sent the cat running. Home run, out of the park!
Andrew Sullivan has a fantastic take on the night. Must read and worthy of a thread, IMO. Go Barack!
A charisma transplant.
Bin Laden could be living in one of McCain’s houses and he wouldn’t be able to find him…
He came on and gave a really good speech. PBS! The only station that ran the whole thing from beginning to end. Does that mean you missed Al Gore too? I’m sorry if you did. He gave one of the best speeches of his life.
ok - I’m now officially tired of Teevee People telling me what to think.
But I’ll wait to hear a little from Rachel. *g*
Unfortunately, when Rachel appears, so normally does Pat Buchanadana.
And at that point, I’m gone.
g’nite Wac
fuck David Brooks - actually that twit should be dancing in the streets - nothing like a Dem to give his tired shit a lift
but as is my wont - I immediately turned to Fox the minute the speech was over - a girl could almost feel sorry for the gobsmacked Brit Hume with that look of abject defeat on his face
bwaaaahaaaahaaaa in your face ! bitches
To not show up at all.
Ha!
He could be hiding up McCain’s ass for that matter.
I am dazzled, which isn’t easy to do, being such a political cynic.
The man is a serious politician, a compassionate human being, and a wonderful orator.
Hope lives. And just for the record, FDL helped. Jane, you are a dream to me. Christy, Pach, et al, FSM bless your work.
We’re close. I’m awfully pleased. Obama is a great choice.
it is
G’night Waccamaw.
The R&R with the old folks at home was restorative, clearly.
Ooh. KO smacking down AP and “Charles Babbington” for superficial and WRONG analysis of Obama speech and how it is “unworthy” of the AP.
CSPAN, jayt. CSPAN.
(Love your Buchanadana, btw)
Olbermann is bashing the Associated Press report about the Obama speech. “No resemblance to the speech we just saw.” “A remarkable failure of that news organization.” How generous of Keith to call AP a “news organization”.
David Gergen is a generic DeeCee Village idiot. He’s worked for more presidents than anyone alive: Clinton, Bush I, Reagan, Ford. I think he was on track for a WH gig when Andy Card left, but presumably the low IQ of the current occupant drove him away. He loves to be interviewed in front of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government backdrop, but he is neither bright nor swift, in my view.
Rubbing elbows with Joe and Lindsey?
CSpan carried all speeches without needing any talking heads.
David Brooks has his head permanently implanted up his ass.
-snip-
I suspect that David actually just pissed his pants.
what a physiologically interesting, disturbing, and embarassing mental image… Ha!
That was a great direct slap in the face.
PBS has these incredible historians on who can wrap historical context around what they just saw with amazing rapidity, and they have Brooks and Dumb (Shields) drivel on for much longer?!?!
Got news for ya PBS…there isn’t some undercurrent of Bobo Brooks fanaticism in America, and if he was fired from the show, no one would care. Don’t expect any letters except for fake ones written by Lush Limpdick listeners.
More historians. Fewer or no “pundits.” If this happens, I may even consider donating again to PBS like I used to, but stopped when I alternatives like FDL developed.
Mrs Greenspan: “I don’t know how it could have been done any better.”
Maybe a nice balloon drop?
Rubbing something anyway. 8-)
msnbc is using the “Enough” phrase as a sound bite
Amen, brother.
SUZE
I know one way the Obama campaign could have made that speech better:
Play THIS SONG right after the speech!
Would that have been fuckin cool or what?
KO is lambasting an AP analysis of tonight’s speech by some nutcase called charles babbington. Keith sez, “Charles Babbington, GET NEW WORK!” And Keith’s right…..this is the shit a lot of people are gonna read in their papers tomorrow. :-(((( Well, at least somebody from tradmed finally called AP out.
I don’t have cable but I’ve noticed that whenever anybody talks about Rachel, Buchanan is always there. What’s up with that? He’s another fuzz brain that needs to join Safire at the old folk’s home.
Yep.
From the speech:
Obviously, Obama is not waiting for McCain to give “BushCo Official Response #2” — he’s giving it for him.
Yup. What a stupid fuck.
I think you are so right…like he didn’t even have the energy to criticize. And most everyone else has been incredibly positive.
Anyone else listening to the call-ins on Cspan? The Gop are so pissed off at Obama. They just love to hate!
Mrs Alan Greenspan: “Never seen anything like it”
Water balloons would be a nice touch.
He’s an even worse xenophobic, racist, fascist than Saffire.
Gooper pundits are unanimous, Obama is a mediocre speaker that can’t draw a crowd.
Yay Keith!
KO “Charles Babbington, find a new line of work!”
Yes, but, then we still have to listen to some (like every other) callers. Some of them seriously scared me.
It’s McShame’s birthday. Look at his new presents!
My hubby and I pulled one of our kids in to watch it with us on PBS for minimal hoopla.
I liked the speech a lot. There were some great moments. I thought it was a tad long, but it set the stage for the weeks to come very well, I thought.
I esp. liked the part about “it’s not that McCain doesn’t care, he just doesn’t get it” words to that effect. really good.
I like the parts that unified the country and brought people together, esp about our troops fighting for the Uniteds States of America (not blue or red states) etc.
I predicted Bobo would say “no balloons, it sucked”. He already tipped his hand weeks before when it was announced Obama would give a speech outdoors. Bobo was “disturbed” by that. Poor baby.
McCain’s “attaboy” was quite condescending and strained.
“We all put our country first”
Guess somebody is reading Lakoff!!
Ya think it’s safe to say we ain’t gonna see his miserable ass on her new show? *G*
Kos nails the shit heads -
‘cuse me Mr Babblington, you must be new here
Rule 1: Dont Fuck With The Hippies !!!!
No, he’s at the Ranch in Texas. LOL
This kind of thing is very exciting to me. It’s getting on the radar at least now, and more people are waking up to how the game works.
Another example was Pach’s Dick Durbin interview earlier. CTBob’s Barbara Boxer interview in 2006. The DeeCee bubbles are being popped by us, and they don’t know how to handle it.
Onward and Upward Liberal soldiers!
No shit, Loo Hoo. Too stupid to not let the little head do the thinking!
Hitting the pillows to dream of a better tomorrow, y’all have fun.
I think the entire convention was designed to go right to the heart.
Skip the heard, aim right for the heart. They succeeded admirably.
For a lot of heartless Republican, of course it’s going to look uninspired. Trying to inspire them is like trying to inspire a rock, but that’s why they are Republicans.
Yessss!!!
True enough. I don’t subscribe to cable or DirecTV, so I’m left with PBS for everything (’cept the Olympics. I gave in for the games.).
Listening to a political scientist on KPOJ saying the only thing the Republicans have left is to go REALLY negative. I’m hoping that this turns out to be a landslide and the Republicans crawl away to lick their wounds under the bridge where trolls and ogres dwell.
What’s up with that? He’s another fuzz brain…
At first, I think they just played well off each other and there was a lot of laughing. But as time has progressed, and she’s continuously bitch-slapped him on the issues night after night, I think Pat is genuinely pissed, and he’s gotten louder, more shrill, No-I’m-NOT-gonna shut-up!! - trying to figure out what happened to his dignity and the respect he feels is his due.
Day-uhm! Even Pat Buchanan is praising the speech!
Pat Buchanan “Greatest convention speech ever”
Wow!
With Domme Rachel there what else could he say?
I thought of you and Lakoff, Egreg! WTG!
go obama!!! Go USA!!!
May be politic, but frankly I think it is untrue. All the evidence points to the fact that McCain just flat out does not give a fuck about anybody except himself and his super rich buddies.
Buchanan raving about how great the speech was. “magnificent…a great speech…”
If Buchanan were to vote for Obama, do you think he’d admit it?
Pat Bucannon just said it was the best speech he has ever heard!! WHAT PAT better than DR King Better than Kennedy!! Shit who woulda thunk!!
yesssss!!!
Could be why Dubya spends three months every year clearing brush.
Ah, hell, rat……too bloody revved to crash. *g* It was a wizard evening and might as well savor it a while longer with you guys.
Hell yeah! This takedown of the cocktail weenie circuit is like watching a dream come true before my eyes. Been waiting for years for this. Bravo Keith and Kos and all of us!
It’s time to really start tightening the screww, since we know they’ll fight back…hard.
Ya think it’s safe to say we ain’t gonna see his miserable ass on her new show? *G*
A coupla months ago, I would have thought it possible.
Not no mo, tho.
and fun too!
I’m wondering what the Repubs will think when McC makes his speech with both thumbs up and wearing a suit that too big.
I want them to crawl back under the rock deep in the sewer swamp that they origianlly crawled out from under and stay there. Forever.
And on Sunday, Cokie gets to lose that haughty smirk.
Nowhere to run.
Rule two don’t fuck with Hippies!!
They clearly do not know the truth when they hear/see it. Must they always say something critical? Yep
Don’t forget to vote in the CNN quick poll on whether the Dems made the case for Obama. Currently 76 yes, 24 no
http://www.cnn.com/
That stadium full of tens of thousands of people is just such an FU to the policies of George Bush, PNAC, bobo, Cheney, McCain the maverick, fox news, that all the little goopers are saying no, no, no oh god no what happened to our wonderful propaganda machine and our profits?
The dem base was unified this week and a fire was lit in them. People will we out in droves walking neighborhoods sending in checks. For the first time in America we have have a “bottom up campaign”. Omama pulled it of with his boots on the ground…a challenge to way way politics is done.
The Blue Dogs have a lot to answer for including not making the Neocons pay. Obama is the leader of this new movement and his supporters are passionate.
Night all. Let me know if you find out where the gift registry is going to be after John and Joe make their big announcement tomorrow. I want to get ‘em somethin’ real nice.
Brian Lehrer on wnyc radio said that Obama was strong and not at all defensive and how important that was. Carol Martin said bringing up MLK at the very end, calling him the preacher from Georgia was very subtle and she felt rather brilliant, letting everyone bring their own imagination to it. Interesting. Barack being careful to be inclusive with ALL groups.
My favorite part was when he talked about which of them had the better TEMPERAMENT to be commander in chief, he or McCain. He did that quietly but powerfully.
Now I get why everyone was saying, Hillary and Biden, especially, how much McCain is their friend. They are towing the line not to attack character and pushing Dems for higher road. But it leaks out from both sides, the disrespect … and I think it is about morality and character on both sides of the aisle that IS or IMHO should an issue. Greed and narcissism. But I get the pragmatism … Obama is trying to make red staters and swing voters feel he wants to end gridlock and sacrifice “accountability” for resolution and bipartisanshipo. “Being Republican is never havingn to say you are sorry!” They still can’t forgive us for being right about Vietnam War. Oy vey.
I did hear that Kucinich had to cut a line in his earlier speech per Obama crew. Kucinich wanted to say that it wasn’t that he wanted Bush and Cheney not to have 4 more years. He actually wanted them to get 10-20 years. Would have loved to hear that verbalized. We’ll be sorry later on as a country we never impeached. :)
Obama did a great job. What an elegant and eloquent speech. He should get high marks. What will the 15,000 reporters report?
They sense that the world they have crafted is on the verge of collapse.
Fuck Spewchanan. Couldn’t care less what he thinks about anything. It’s all pandering anyway. We don’t need his approval. Same with all the blowhards.
We need to ignore them. Cancel our subscriptions. Starve them of money. This must happen if we’re ever going to be able to restore the Constitution.
And on Sunday, Cokie gets to lose that haughty smirk.
cool. Is that on regular teevee, or pay-per-view?
I thought the speech was very effective, and also don’t see how it could have been better. It wasn’t a rousing stumper. It was real, genuine, straight talk, and that is what was needed.
Obama is a relatively centrist progressive, always has been, hasn’t hidden it. So I do not expect to agree with all of his positions, and that is OK. Where I disagree, it will be better to fight out specific issues with rational honest people, rather than the high toned fixers and conmen of the Bush/McCain GOP.
I think Obama and Biden will run a very effective campaign. Biden will be above-the-belt fist, swung with all due respect, and Obama will be that nice, but confident and unflappable, neighbor who speaks his mind.
Two thumbs up where?
nowhere to hide
Tweety has come unglued
This was one of the greatest speeches of our time…full of substance… http://enewsreference.wordpres.....ce-speech/
Tweety: “I thing people really do hate the politics of Karl Rove.”
I used to watch West Wing and think, “Gee, what would it be like to have a president who could express himself in a truly eloquent way?” Maybe I’ll find out.
“it’s not that McCain doesn’t care, he just doesn’t get it”
Night ratfood.
Maybe, still looking. He forgot it’s uner his chair in the Oval Office.
Dat’s sum fine word turnin’
clearly, I owe ya a beverage of your choice :D
Afraid I have to call it a night, got an early doctor appointment. I had an experience like yours with the dentist LAST year. A root canal and three crowns. Spent so much on my teeth I couldn’t afford to eat for a couple months.
See ya tomorrow.
Tweety has come unglued
true.
I’m just not sure how many years ago it happened.
He hit a grand slam… http://enewsreference.wordpres.....ce-speech/
Tweety was born unglued.
Is Bob Shrum on anywhere? I must know what he thinks.
I know exactly what you’re talking about.
Rule #3, there is no rule #3.
OMG… Chris Matthews just found his inner “Tip O’Neill”. Who’d have thunk it?
ROTFLMAO!
Sleep well and good luck.
I never thought anyone could top the Olympic opening ceremony, yet in many ways, this did.
Incredible speech- sure it’s just a speech- but the whole convention was crafted—incredible job- it is a harbinger of what competence can bear.
Compare to the goopers who are thinking about changing their convention in Minnesota because of a possible hurricane in La. Trying to run away from themselves..
“We have met the enemy- and he is US”
Republican Party of the United States of America
Is Bob Shrum on anywhere? I must know what he thinks.
“oh, *that’s* why I’m drawing unemployment checks”
Done yet? You women can be exhausting. In a good way of course! ;)
*waving g’nite to all the leaving sleepy pups i’ve missed while being busy backstage*
what about Pat Caudell?
Dowd on NIghtline being very positive, esp. focusing on both Repub and Dem knowing it has been an historical moment.
Take care, rf.
Sleep well, rat. Tomorrow………..
Can you think of any more damning image than another disastrous failure like Katrina during their convention? And you know with Dubya the Dim in charge it will be.
It’s twue! It’s twue!
It all worked- even following the olymics turned out to be a good move. People were used to watching teevee after dinner and were in a patriotic mood- Obama linked into ALL of it. Superb.
And even duct tape won’t hold him together.
when history speaks upstairs
that seems strange to me. the ability to give speeches that are at least in part disconnected from reality is hardly the most important quality to look for in a politician. they can say anything they want, so long as we have no way to hold them accountable, i don’t see how it means anything - unless they have a track record that is consistent with what they say in the speeches.
can’t say i think that is the case here.
it has been interesting to see a few of them sense this long before tonight and adapt eg - Mrs Greenspan, Joe Klein,
same with Buchanan’s response - yes he was a speechwriter, but this dfh suspects his praise of tonight’s speech is rooted in his love of the cheddar
Jesse J: America is ahead of the commentators
His suit is too big because of the Depends. Sorry he needs them, I’m sure it’s because he’s a POW and we should all just get over it.
If he explained why he wears them, I’m sure Americans will understand, but he’s a liar.
Now is 75/25 with 20K votes
I want to see all those useless Dems in DC out there campaigning for Obama. They don’t get to just give money - they have to work. They need to earn the right to serve with him. I want to take every Blue Dog seat and soon.
Like your spirit, BB. Hope is contagious, like courage.
Still gotta give props to John Kerry. I remember reports in 2004 that he had to fight hard for Obama as the keynote speaker. Without Kerry’s persistence back then, we wouldn’t have watched this speech this evening. Instead, let’s just say, Lanny Davis would’ve had a prominent speaking slot this week. Thank you Kerry for your vision!
Don’t they deserve it? Justice.
Now after that sweeping challenge to America, the GOP will marshall their Armies of Sauron and open up the sewers.
They will be seen for that sad, mean, small and bitter lot they have become.
It WAS their turn and they ruined everything.
Time for a new sherrif in town.
-G
Every speaker at the convention will have had to put their speeches in for review — and they almost always need to have lines changed, pulled, modified or expanded. Because the convention is the messaging vehicle for the candidate, not the speaker. It’s how it always works. Kucinich and his staff would have known that — just like any other person with a speaking position also did. I heard that Bill Clinton wrangled quite a bit about his speech as well this week, among others.
But it is always — ALWAYS — done at conventions. Including at both Clinton conventions. Which is why you didn’t hear Bill Clinton griping publicly about the wrangling. (I only heard about it through some back channel former staffer folks who were laughing about it.)
Hey, W, nice to see you on this side of the day. :)
Re Rachel… will have to get a new tv in honor of her new show. Mine blew and enjoying radio-connection lately. Glenn Greenwald (iirc) said ONLY Rachel can sit next to PB and not get strident. Look at Eleanor Clift on McLaughlin group. But when Rachel is outnumbered by the “talking points shallow pundits” it does make me crazy. I like just her and another rational person behind the mikes on her radio show.
God has a wicked sense of humor, doesn’t She?
Good Night all. It was a wonderful speech to end a great week. Richardson didn’t speak last night because Pres Clinton was scheduled for only 15 minutes (not long enough.) It was good he was on tonight. I watched most all of it on C-Span and saw most of the speeches by other people. The MSM just wasn’t covering all the people that were going after McCain. Not down and dirty but on subject matter. It was a great convention. Now I will go out and work to elect Obama. Going to a DNC meet up fish fry Saturday in Bell County TX. Meet new people. I volunteered to work in the Obama campaign office here in Killeen, Tx starting Sept. 1. Never did this stuff before. Should be interesting.
Wow… I wondered who pushed to have BO give that address. Good for Kerry.
Hi Suz will be back after a very late dinner!! Make sure you are Digging Pups!!
OOOPs … My #202 was meant for Bonkers at 195.
Thanks Christy. I am not surprised at the review deal. And Kucinich himself refused on radio to give his exact quote and said respectfully he was happy to have delivered 95% of what he wanted to say. Then he happily pitched his impeachment website.
Fantastic! This needs to happen on a large scale everywhere. We still have the deck stacked against us. Fired up!
America has been way ahead of the commentators for a long time. At least eight years. The editors, newsreaders, pundits and bloviators for the most part hitched their star to the Republicans and their world is soon to crumble around them. They are disoriented standing on the edge of the chasm and suffering from vertigo, nothing to hold on to anymore.
Rachel up next on MSNBC
What’s Peggy Noonan saying now?
The fighting Obama is what I’ve been waiting for! This skeptic is very pleased. I was a little uncomfortable with how choreographed everything was, but they pulled it off amazingly well. As an old-timer, I sort of miss the dems traditional chaos, but this was a show that will appeal to people who, unlike me, are used to stadium sport events and huge concerts. It worked here at home on TV. The lead-in speeches were great, the music hip. The ordinary folks testimonials were genius and sincere. The whole convention has been uplifting and genuinely spirited. Stay tuned next week for Repubs phony moralizing, McCain getting confused, Lawrence Welk re-runs, and fundy preachers.
selise, I don’t understand your comment. What part of community service/organizing instead of high-powered Wall Street law firm and millions of bucks didn’t you hear?
What part of tax cuts for middle and lower middle class workers while in the Illinois Senate?
What part of more health care for kids while in the Illinois Senate? (by the way - he wrote those bills and got them passed)
People do make choices in their lives to do the right thing - and by most accounts Obama has done exactly that.
Of course the Rethugs and the MSM completely ignore his service everywhere and claim he has “no” experience.
On behalf of community organizers everywhere (I was one for 15 years) that is some of the most difficult work you can ever do. You have to get all these ‘interest groups’ with all their differing points of view and ideas of how they want to do things to agree on a plan of action to actually get something done. Obama was very good at it.
And it shows - look at his campaign. You can tell a lot about a person by the way they operate - this one is bottom-up driven, supremely well-organized, well-funded by mostly small donors, no money from PACS.
What exactly is it that you want?
He spoke tonight, just befor Al Gore.
Did you notice Rachel’s drop jaw reaction to Pat Buchannon’s praise for the speech tonight? Who knew that above partisanship, P.B. was a speech-craftsman above all else?
Does it matter what the Nooner cares to spew about? If you want spew, listen to her and suck the vile stuff up. I can do without it, thank you.
I think part of the “change” I’m really looking forward to is a change in the tired old “commentators.” They can start by throwing Tom Brokaw into the trash bin.
Reading it, and not having seen it, I’m not terribly impressed by the content. Oh, it’s miles ahead of the GOP, and it at least acknowledges some of the challenges ahead of us: the economy, the environment, foreign policy–actually, I think it’s best on foreign policy–but the substantive content is not that great, and if the policies are implemented as promised, there are going to be problems. If we elect Obama, it will be on charisma, rather than because we think he’s got useful answers to our problems, and that bothers me.
Caw!
The stagecraft was INCREDIBLE! Come home America to the wide facade of a great home on the American Plains, all presented on-stage… to the safety of the Democratic Party which will protect you, your family, and the American Way.
The speech was what I have been waiting for. For the first time in my life, after a long speech, I felt CLEAN. Can’t explain it, but it is a feeling I woke up with this morning.
