Hillary Rosen, who does commentary for CNN, told me yesterday that despite the fact that cable news has decided the war between Clinton and Obama supporters is the story of the convention, they’re actually having trouble finding delegates who reflect that.
From here on the ground, the real story is the unhealthy relationship between Democratic politicians and their bigwig donors, but woe to anyone who wants to look into it:
Police in Denver arrested an ABC News producer today as he and a camera crew were attempting to take pictures on a public sidewalk of Democratic Senators and VIP donors leaving a private meeting at the Brown’s Palace Hotel.
Police on the scene refused to tell ABC lawyers the charges against the producer, Asa Eslocker, who works with the ABC News investigative unit.
A police official later told lawyers for ABC News that Eslocker is being charged with trespass, interference, and failure to follow a lawful order. He also said the arrest followed a signed complaint from the Brown Palace Hotel.
Eslocker was put in handcuffs and loaded in the back of a police van which headed for a nearby police station.
… Eslocker and his ABC News colleagues are spending the week investigating the role of corporate lobbyists and wealthy donors at the convention for a series of Money Trail reports on ABC World News with Charles Gibson.
As Dan Rather noted the other day, if he was covering the convention, the relationship between Democrats and lobbyists would be the story he’d be investigating.
But what do you suppose Hillary supporters think about Michelle Obama’s hair? Inquiring Fox News reporters want to know.

Go Big Dog! Stay sober tonight!
Great report Jane – thanks for highlighting it. More of this, please!
Yep, Jane, CNN’s trying so hard to sell the “rift” story that they have been flogging a story on their website all day touting the conclusions of a “body language expert” who claims Hillary was not sincere in her comments about Barack last night. I refuse to provide a link to that drivel. The good news, however, is that I read a small sampling of comments and people are tearing CNN a new one over that.
It’s a good thing you and Glenn didn’t wind up in jail, too. On the bright side, however, you at least would have had a terrific lawyer ready to take your case…
Maybe she needs to offer to take a polygraph….whadda buncha stupid shit?!
Mentioned this down a couple threads right before Ian opened his up, and then work got crazy on me; glad to see you were already on top of it, Jane.
All the more reason to get Big Money the heck out of Washington and our party. A reporter actually expends shoe leather for a story and gets punished for it — criminal use of law enforcement.
D
Betcha ABC won’t have any stories about any corporate lobbyists or wealthy donors in the Twin Cities next week.
Jane,
I saw an AP story over at MSNBC that discussed how big a player ATT is at this convention.
They were specifically highlighting the “party” you tried to get into the other night and how it was ATT honoring Steny Hoyer and his “help” on the FISA bill.
Steny’s staff denied that Steny knew he was the “Guest of Honor.”
That’s because all the lobbyists will be on McSame’s staff.
The real battle in Washington as well as Denver. Seeing as how ABC is a Disney property, I’m surprised they took a swing at it-until I see the long view. This will be ABC’s narrative through their coverage NEXT week-Democrats take money from fat cats, but my, John McCain sure looks Presidential, doesn’t he?
It would be just what Jane needs. Having to set up a defense fund.
My target Rethug co-worker today was all worked up about Michelle’s hand movements. Asked what she had said he had no idea. F*kin’ morons.
Was Hillary’s pantsuit color a secret coded message to Markos?
Why aren’t we talking about this, and the other important issues?
You know, at 2:30 in the afternoon (5:30 eastern) it’s really only us Democratic party junkies watching the convention. So why am I watching a lifelong republican nominate my party’s candidate for president?
Is this the new post-partisanship?
Get your numbers here
http://www.opensecrets.org/
Maybe the folks at ABC could do a story about the First amendment and free speech now.
Naw, never happen.
Well he is a POW if you didn’t know it
Wow, Jane, I guess it’s a good thing you and Glenn forged a decent relationship with that Denver police officer at the ATT/BlueDog party.
CHS just finished interview with the Anderson Cooper guy.
left you a message below
If this isn’t on O’Reilly tonight, he’s really missing a good one. The FOX crowd would buy it, too.
I’m with you on the wondering. I sat here thinking “he’s not a member of the democratic party. How can he make a nomination? Is this even legitimate?”
best report from i’ve read from denver. excellent.
Honestly, I was distracted by her hand movements too. I would have liked to hear or read her speech instead of watch it.
The PUMAs are talking about it.
Some say it is a coded message to them:
Revolutionary colors a la Ukranian revolutinaries
Prison colors because the DNC is holding her hostage
PUMA color (I had no idea pumas were orange)
and on and on
Best comedy I have read all day
Back atcha. Here we go, thread tennis again. *g*
Which person was that?
Did he see any of those you know terrorist fist jabs
roll call vote
Not watching – who’s nominating? Please
I was focused more on her facial expressions and didn’t pay a lot of attention to the hand movements. Guess I’ve known too many Europeans. *g*
Thank goodness he’s not a wingnut. Just young and impressionable. Shook McSFB’s hand once and had an epiphany or some shit.
When you see discussion of “PUMAs” think “Subversive Republican operatives trying to disrupt the Democratic convention.
For those claiming the mantle are not Democrats.
And if any of your friends speak about the disunity in the Dem Party, point out to them that Ron Paul and his supporters are holding a shadow convention in St Paul. Meaning far more disunity there than in Denver, no matter how much the pundits might wish it to be so.
Let me explain the irony of the location being the Brown Palace (not Brown’s Palace.)
A – it’s known for money deals
B – it’s famous for the tunnels they used to smuggle booze and beat Prohibition.
C – The Browns were JJ and “Unsinkable” Molly Brown who built the hotel, with money from the biggest gold strike in Colorado, the Little Jonny
Please tell me the Senator was a Blue Dog, connected to booze sales who was wanting to strike gold at The Brown so my happy irony will be complete.
The guy who nominated Obama
They were more like Donald Trump firing a pleb.
I for sure know they are repug operatives but I will certainly talk up the Ron Paul point. Thanks
i didn’t see that one.
Same police shit, different convention city. How many cops still don’t get it when it comes to civil rights and working for The Powers That Be?
Thanks Jane.
digg
Does anyone have any connections with whatever passes for the union for the Denver police?
Boxer casting California’s votes now.
Actually, California passed.
they say the compromise was for any state that had more votes for Hillary is going to pass (per MSNBC)
dugg.
thanks!
Connecticut hails Dodd, casts 38 for Obama, 21 for Clinton.
i don’t get it.
that seems like bullshit to me. i never supported clinton, but a lot of people did and they deserve to have the their votes counted.
Per today’s schedule:
i guess it was done so that the M$M would report it? trying to build that bipartisan narrative?
I don’t either but this is the theory being floated out by MSNBC. I’m going to wait to see if this story/theory is verified
Florida booed!
that was for Selise@44
No matter which way the MSM herd travels about it, I like Michelle Obama’s hair.
I didn’t hear them booed
The FL delegation was booed or the FL delegation booed?
Charlie Rangel tells Mrs Greenspan that Clinton will come to the floor and cast New York’s votes.
Some in other delegations booed at Florida.
This, combined with what happened with the protestors walking PEACEFULLY towards the convention center, and what happened in Minnesota…what can I say? Where are our Fourth Amendment rights to peaceful assembly?
Hillary is going to announce the New York votes
I just went back and replayed it and I didn’t hear any booing.
Where’s the unity?
do you think maybe some states are passing so that when clinton casts new york’s votes it will be the votes that give obama the win?
i don’t know the math, but that would be a nice touch.
Idaho having to stretch back a few years to find their Democrats to praise.
sorry this is so late but
aHAHAHAHAHAHA
Chuck Todd sez Illinois (up next) may pass to New York. Secret Service has cleared an aisle; trying to get it done by 6:30 eastern time for the nightly news.
Great report, Jane! Geez, just geez!
no one booed the Florida delegation
California was booed ( a bit) for passing on the vote
That makes sense (sounds better too) and would be a very nice touch.
Check out the cops first clocking, then snatching this Code Pink protester.
Yeah it was to laugh when I read that bit. Steny got caught and doesn’t like it. Go Jane!
why, does Cal ee forn ee ah get to put Obama over the top?
Iowa has a veteran casting their votes, acknowledging Iowa’s role in the very beginning of the voting. Casts their votes, on to Kansas.
The heat is bound and determined to show the dfh’s that they are in charge. They see us and our ideas as a distinct threat to their world view. Which is true.
Force is the weapon of the weak.
I got your unity right here, pal
No, apparently California didn’t come over to Obama (recall that Hillary won big here on Super Tuesday). According to MSNBC, no states where Hillary’s votes now exceed Barack’s are voting; they are passing.
they don’t. I think it is to allow New York to put Obama over the top
I just heard Chuck Todd say that was his guess as to why California passed. We will have to see if it is true
When I was a kid, it was somewhat interesting to hear the various states do their bragging prior to casting their votes. However, nowadays, they are really having to stretch to come up with all the bragging points.
It is getting a bit tedious now.
My mouth is hanging open. The brown shirts are truly back.
Exactly the kind of story we need you to cover, Jane. Won’t be in the TradMed, possibly not even ABC.
It is exactly the kind of excess — once, the preserve of Goopers, who are likely to trade places for a few years with the Dems — progressives do not want their Democratic Party to become addicted to. Private, police protected meetings at ostensibly public events among public officials negate democracy. They shut out everybody, progressives included.
If these “senators” want to do business this way, they should give up public office or not have their bids for re-appointment accepted. They should not use it as a taxpayer paid launching paid when all they give the public, in turn, is one more kick in the pants.
He’s a Republican. You won’t see him here.
I’m having a really hard time with this.
Hillary released her delegates. Given that she won LARGE in Kentucky, that has to be why Kentucky had more Obama votes now than Hillary
I hope that ABC is as diligent next week in Saint Paul.
Isn’t it disgusting. Just how does anyone tear this corrupt money system apart. No matter which person or party is office, we still get what the money buys. They are leading this country right off a cliff and royally ripping us off in the process. Screw em.
It’ll be worse at the Rethug convention. They’re reminding us why in the 60’s and 70’s we called them “pigs.”
heh. teehee. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Teddy you crack me up but gotta love your optimism
There aren’t thousands and thousands of protesters, but there are a couple hundred arrests. And a lot are like that YouTube. I’m telling you outside the Convention Zone, it’s a frikking armed camp with roving blackshirts hanging about 6 per truck and driving around, aside from the mounted patrols on both horseback and bikes.
Bloggers at the Big Tent and Pepsi Center are not seeing this activity, and it’s a shame because it’s under-reported IMO.
aaaAah
thanks for the edification.
Delegates may be released, but they are not obligated to vote per her direction. Much of the Hillary unhappiness in the media has been fueled by Susie Tompkins Buell (Esprit) who is a big Hillary and Democratic donor. Perhaps some California Hillary delegates have not decided to vote for Obama.
Of course, this is all based on MSNBC spin, and they are heavily invested in the divided-Democrats theme.
I do wonder if DiFi’s absence is having any effect on the California delegation, though, as she was scheduled to be its leader. Perhaps her velvet glove is missed?
you bet! I was speechless.
from the post-
“they’re actually having trouble finding delegates who reflect that.”
andrea mitchell explored that last night, had many many comments from delegates, and kept pushing the fact that she couldn’t find anyone who did…was laughing and genuinely talking with people. pointedly.
i had it look twice to make sure it was her. she was definitely enjoying herself talking with them, and kept saying she ‘couldn’t find it here’. that it looked like unity to her. i thought, good thing her job is secure, she might be in a little trouble….made me wonder.
her interview today led tom ridge to completely blow it, he ended with how mccain is a principled man with a principled past……the whole time she was joking with him, but got him to blow it. i dunno. i think she might be steppin’ up to the plate. i know in these two instances, she had the ball(s). no snark.
Boxer explaining now that because our California legislators had to return to Sacramento, they have to get their alternates onto the floor instead. Olbermann calls it “a plausible and convincing explanation.”
Thank you, Jane, for looking into the real story.
You could start a new series, based on the old Paul Harvey formula, where Page 1 is the set-up, page 2 reveals the back story, and you then close with, “and now you know the rest of the story.” Only, unlike Paul Harvey, the “rest of the story” would reveal the corrupting influence of big money on politics.
Bob in HI
Many of the Calif delegates had to go back to vote they were rounding up the alternates and then had to vote by secret ballot
When I saw the video on the protestors walking PEACEFULLY towards the convention center, and the way they were treated, I had this overwhelming feeling of dread of one of them being shot dead…ala Kent/Jackson State…
oh, and cspan is showing repub platform meeting, did they show the dem’s last week? can’t find it.
right now they ar egoing over health care platform amendments…..disgusting.
and again, heather wilson makes my neck feel tight……when i hear her talk. sounds like she has lockneck and lock jaw. frightening.
I’m not ignoring you, U.C., I just don’t know what to say. I can’t fathom the violence on another who is unarmed…
Anyone want to wager the ACLU stands up for this reporter before ABC does?
that was cspan2 I thought they showed it but seems like it was 2 or 3 weeks ago
Where is DiFi? Did she skip the convention?
I don’t know whether the powers-that-be in the Dem party know what’s going on outside (probably not) but I wish we all had a way to e-mail them at the convention center. They need to know that the party which talks about the Constitution etc is allowing it to be violated right under their upturned noses.
Broke her ankle had to stay home on Drs orders
She has a broken ankle.
i had a problem with that…..a historic nomination, noone else deserved it?
seems they could have fit him in somewhere else.
thanks
So as we approach the three-quarters mark of this convention, my take is that Rush’s Operation Chaos is a complete failure. The cops are certainly heavy handed but I don’t hear any reports of widespread violence. Did he call for violence all through the convention or just when Obama is around?
Is that a toupe on Ben Nelson
oh. I wish her a speedy recovery but I don’t miss her being there (she is so not my fav congress critter)
Teddy upstairs on Steny & Digby
I am sure she has the best medical care that money can provide
did i hear right – that even though clinton won n.h. – they cast all their votes for obama?
Yes. She released her delegates this morning with no instrauctions so that they could vote any way they wish
if i was the reporter, i’d contact the NLG asap.
as far as i can see, the ACLU defends the constitution and will take cases that further that aim. but the NLG defends the activists and has sets up a mass defense group of volunteers whenever there is some big event like this. so, i’d call the NLG asap and then the ACLU if needed.
if i was walking around denver this week, even if not actively protesting, i’d have the NLG’s arrest phone number written somewhere on my body in permanent ink.
silly me, if i were a delegate, i’d think i had some responsibility to the voters too. reason number 999 why i could never be a delegate?
Hillary puts him over the top!
Orange was supposedly a tribute to Ukraine’s Orange Revolution, according to the chromato-conspiracy theorists. Hints of a tainted election, blah, blah, blah.
Problem is, the “Orange Revolution” was about challenging a long-established regime that had held power for a decade. The parallel would be the Bush cabal. And the “Oranges” were a joint “Unity Coalition” between a woman, who ran parliament…and an outsider who emerged to win the Presidency. They didn’t get along, true…but the “Orange Revolution” was all about putting these differences aside to evict the entrenched autocracy.
was Rahmmy wiping away a tear there?
But will we see ABC News be just as aggressive with all of McSame’s lobbying friends at the Repub convention – sponsored mostly by Big Oil??
I won’t hold my breath.
Maybe it was in the broadcasters booth…the Fox commentators could then say they heard boos.
Off to turn on the Rays/Blue Jays game, feed the tigers, turn on the convention and read until Bill and Bitem speak (tube on, mute on, otherwise).
Namaste
well there’s reporting you can rely on.
Republicans are such wusses…unless they could have compelled someone elses kids to participate in the violence it wouldn’t fly.
In fact, the demos by the Anti-Abortion groups likely just made more of the Clinton delegates realize just what was at stake here. If they got a dose of “Operation Rescue” – the Supreme Court would be a strong encouragement to stop the bluffs about “I’m goinna vote for McCain”.
dhammit, I am posts behind
Hillary Makes The Decisive Call
up a couple flights
From what I have gathered, some states wanted to follow her call from the previous evening and cast their vote for Obama
Ted Koppel is on the BBC flaming the division thing. sheesh
you better believe it.
check out the accolades for the DFH and bean counters in this DKOS article about the origins of the neocon/Saudi dynasty
This is the strange tale of the alliance of Middle East jihadists and their business partners, entrepreneurial elements of the CIA Old Guard led by George Herbert Walker Bush. Together, they developed a global network that peddled nuclear weapons, cultivated global terrorist groups, subverted the U.S. government, and tried to impose their own global dynasty under cover of a manufactured Forever War of religious genocide
“The Safari Club
The Khan network was the product of more than an alliance against the Soviet Union. It sprang out of a post-Watergate era partnership between disgraced former covert operators who had been thrown out of American intelligence, the Saudi Royal family, and third-country partners who provided manpower and technical assistance. It was called, “The Safari Club”. In early 1976, under its outgoing Director George H.W. Bush, elements within the Agency turned to the Saudi royal family for help. Those were difficult times for CIA Old Guard. As ground involvement in Vietnam ended in 1973, the Agency ramped up the covert operations and secret wars that spread into Laos and Cambodia. The Phoenix Program targeted tens of thousands of South Vietnamese officials and suspected Vietcong sympathizers for assassination, a program in which James Mann tells us in Rise of the Vulcans a naval officer, named Richard Armitage, participated. http://www.warandpiece.com/…
Two years later, despite the extraordinary exertions of some within the Agency, and a fellowship of committed Cold warriors, Saigon fell. Within that group was the perception that the (Cause had been betrayed by liberals, Democrats, and bean counters, and that would never again be allowed to happen.)!!!
excellent article

These are the reasons I believe 911 was an inside job and it makes me sick to my stomach
Jane,
Get a load of this:
http://www.docudharma.com/show…..tId=161621
Strange how media decides “the big story”. then they devote themselves to making it look “true” whether it reflects reality or not.
