Dreams of Obama

He points out that on policy there isn’t much difference between Obama and Clinton, but that McCain is likely to continue with the Bush policies simply because, if he gets elected, it will be because he somehow revived the coalition of neo-Cons, evangelicals, and anti-progressives that were the fundament of Bush’s coalition.

Obama will win because he attracted a new coalition and revitalized the Democratic party with young, minorities (including those of mixed race) and previously apathetic voters. Obama’s a party builder and brings in more voices to a party that has been in decline for decades. One will at least be able to negotiate change with Obama, and his selections to judicial and administrative positions will, at least, be amenable to imput from scientists and progressives where McCain’s appointments would, indeed, be more of the same.

… as if that was the only problem with the Dem campaign, and not a shift to “moderateness.”

Right. The Democrats are now the moderate wing of the Republican party. Karl Rove has won, but not the way we (or he) expected.
