About Firedoglake
Morning everyone. I think I can safely say – ‘now the work begins’.
Yes.
Posted this downstairs but it looks a little slow here today.
This is what is happening in Denver.
St Pete For Peace in Denver. First pic, Bob, on left, and Serge.
More good news for McCain.
nice! St Pete representin’
Hillary was fantastic last night. Whew. I was nervous she might decide to use the night as a rallying call for the republicans! Didn’t happen. Again…whew.
I posted downstairs too that our good friend, Alan Grayson (he’s been here at least twice), won his primary and the Republican incumbent barely won his against a complete unknown who had no money. Grayson was able to run alot of ads on TV during the Olympics and he wouldn’t have been able to do that -or so many-without the support he got here and other places in the blue blogosphere.
Hopefully, Bill will now deliver a grand slam.
Howie Klein is happy: Best News of the Day — Alan Grayson Crushes Reactionary Hacks in Orlando.
And Rahm’s reaction?
*crickets*
Maybe Christy will run into him sometime today and ask him about it.
Howie has a couple of Grayson ad videos up at the link that are just priceless. Do check them out.
The “Serge” is working!
CNN has a report that Bill won’t join his wife in attending Obama’s acceptance speech. Wonder if it’s true & if so, why. Sends a bad signal.
http://politicalticker.blogs.c…..co-speech/
Adn Keller was expected to crush his primary opponent. He’s saying he was saving his money for the general. The old “keeping the powder dry” stragety, hmmm? Grayson’s ads were very good and on during Olympic prime time. Howie and everybody here deserves a mjor pat on the back. No. Just a pat on the back. There’s still a general election againsta aguy with money. Then a major pat on the back.
They got back yesterday. Saw Serge last night. Everybody had a good laugh over the cop flashing the peace sign. Had one do the same thing at a Hillary protest in Tampa couple years ago. 12% voter turnout yesterday. Pathetic. We’re lookin’ to ramp our activities up.
Hey. Did you ever make up over that “regional accent” spat you had going yesterday morning ? LOL. Ok, OK. I won’t get you started.
But I agree. It probably means nothing but it’ll get analyzed to daeth as a major snub.
Last I knew I thanked everybody for their free psychoanalysis of me and went off to my chores. Was quite surprised at what a dust up a simple Q caused.
Kucinich was awesome, but for this…the truth that dare not speak its name:
Use of the alternate title “Neocon” is code for what actual descriptor?
Zionist.
That is the word which all refuse to use. Use of the code word Neocon is an attempt to divert attention from reality in order to make it indiscernible (to Rove’s great delight). “Neocon” is an invention, a ruse, a contrived and meaningless catchall.
“Zionist” is not a dirty word (as most are very proud of their positions, and refer to themselves as such), yet you will not find it in any mainstream news story. Why are they so reluctant to call themselves what they are? Why is the entire country paralyzed where use of this simple word is concerned?
When Kucinich uses the word “Neocon,” he does so with the full knowledge that the truth dare not speak its name in American Politics.
And THAT is the elephant in the room.
http://www.ajc.com/opinion/con…..index.html Mike Luckovich is pretty good today for those who need a laugh.
Maybe he’s got a date.
Thanks for the laugh.
Yeah. I forget whon was right and who was wrong but I had a definite opinion. But notjhing wrong with definite opinions, right? infact, other than it happening, I forget the whole thing. I thought the whole thing was funny. Water under the bridge. I think they (msm) have been setting BO up to fail. I kept hearing that candidates “usually” get a 6 point bounce or more. That seems high to me. If BO doesn’t get it — and I think there’s a good chance he won’t — you’re going to hear replays of “why isn’t he doing better?” It’s a frustrating campaign. HRC did a great job, I think. And Bill seemed genuinely happy for a change.
Hey BT!
Everyone sleepin’ in this morning?
Interesting footage Dragon (#3). We’ve gotta run early today, but I’ll add the sound later & take a better look. Looked as if the shurf’s hosses were the only ones behavin’ they-selves. Ouch!
You stay safe out there, guys.
eCAHN at #11: if billyboy reelly reelly wants to send a bad signal, he will. I’m just tickled pink (heh) that Hill gave such a grand speech.
She’s the main player in that family right now. He’s just gonna have to figure that out and live with it. The more “bad signal” junk he leaks, the less influence he’s gonna have – sounds like a rapidly deflating balloon as it is.
This here Democratic Party wants some good news for a change.
Hillary, if you read here: THANK YOU!!!
There are different definitions by which “Zionists” define themselves. The extreme right wingers, e.g. Likud, want an Israel free of Arabs from the Jordan to the Med. Others who call themselves Zionists do not agree with that and do not align themselves with the wingers. To substitute Zionist for neocon may fit your perception but it paints all Zionists with a broad brush.
“Noun Verb POW”
Good one. But when Bush & Cheney don’t join McCain & ______, (as they most assuredly won’t) will they say anything? ‘course not. Or they’ll swallow and regurgitate the line that Bush “didn’t want to steal the spotlight from McCain.” Or some such absurd trash.
Media is McCain’s base, according to him. So of course they’re setting up Obama to fail.
Hey, you started without me! Such early
birdsdogs. So much was riding on Hillary’s speech last night. “So Hillary. What you need to do is go out there, look calm and stay poised, comfort your supportes, reassure Obama’s supporters, gather in the undecideds, say nothing that the dark side can use against you or Obama (and good luck with that), and be convinving. Any questions?”
I thought she was terrific. I hope her supporters are okay. I do.
The most important thing is that we feel free to have the discussion, without fear of attack for daring to contemplate this “special relationship,” particularly where our own self interests and national security are concerned. It is in fact a national security issue – with espionage and blackmail as realities:

Man, you’ve got to update your source material. Eight year old intelligence stories?
Off to my own version of SouthernDragon’s cesspool. No time to say hello, goodbye, I’m late, I’m late, I’m late.
What’s your point? Are you discounting their accuracy simply because they recount events pre and post-9/11, or do you have more updated examples that better demonstrate the point? If so, feel free to share all of them.
I personally believe that these stories are the most important ones to refer to in order to comprehend what was happening at the most crucial time in recent history, in the context of what has resulted.
Of course the recent story of Ariel Joseph Weinmann, a US Submariner caught passing military secrets to Israel, was completely buried, so we can’t really analyze that one, and of course the AIPAC spy scandal that included Larry Franklin and the two highest ranking AIPAC officials has been dutifully put on hold, forever.
http://www.globalsecurity.org/…..ug2005.htm
If you have more recent examples or wiretapping and espionage by Israel, by all means, share them.
Meanwhile, back in the happy-happy joy-joy world of the PUMA, Hillary’s choice of color for her pantsuit is sending a clear signal to them to continue the fight and/or vote for McCain.
No, I’m not kidding.
I remember stuff about Israeli intelligence gathering 30+ years ago. What has changed is they’ve expanded their activities and are more sophisticated. Know anybody who doesn’t at least think that Israel spies on us? AIPAC’s links to this kind of stuff are still being uncovered. My point is there’s nothing new here. There are probably books about Israel’s intelligence activities for those interested in that aspect of world affairs.
Meant for plunger @ 31.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.
Namaste

After decades of water carrying, how does Rush feel about this new Republic Ministry of Truth? No doubt that he feels he IS the real Ministry of Truth.
I noted to my wife that orange is opposite blue on the color wheel and , therefore, offered the most dramatic contrast possible with the blue background. How are the PUMA’s using that as sign to continue the lemming movement?
http://killtown.blogspot.com/2…..n-911.html
What’s up with Mark Warner??? He was the Keynote Speaker and he delivered a tepid, vapid lackluster speech that was tailor made for another Democratic defeat. Sibelius was also equally awful. Trully pathetic. Fortunately The Gov. of Montana delivered a barn burner. More of the latter and less of the former. Attack, attack, attack!
yeah, Hillary actually looks good in orange (who else does?) and it was just the right color to be wearing with that blue backdrop.
it’s a secret
OT: On matters of renewable energy, there has been a fair amount of discussion here about the electricity grid:
– Many have expressed concern that Pickens is attempting to unfairly get taxpayers and/or rate payers to subsidized the grid portion of his wind farms.
– Ian cited an article that notes that the grid is generally broken and/or on the verge of “cracking”: http://www.energybulletin.net/node/43823
So, in both regards this from today’s NYT caught my eye: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08…..7grid.html
And if it were a man, would we be having an analogous discussion about the color & pattern of his tie?
Well I don’t agree that “neocon” and “zionist” are synonyms. On Israel, they both have similar agendas, but the “neocon” agenda is much broader. I stumbled across an article yesterday from a Christian publication that I thought presented a really balanced look at Christian Zionism. See the Mennonite Weekly Review article.
I think it is SO important that we are careful when having this discussion though, much of the language can start sounding frighteningly similar to the antisemitism of racists. I think there is a legitimate concern with zionism and policies of the Israeli government, but we have to make sure we clearly distinguish that from any criticism of a particular race or religion.
I guess we could ask Juno, if she were still around.
What’s the difference between $hillary and Mc$?…waiting for answer! Lies against Obama by $hillary and Mc$ are unforgivable so why forgive..can’t forget!
I thought the color choice was Hillary’s way of reaching out to the Kossaks, myself.
If a bullfrog had wings it wouldn’t bump it’s ass when it hopped either.
I’m off. bbl
That’s why I loved her line about the sisterhood of the traveling pantsuits. I think she was taking a shot at that attitude.
Renewable energy: I agree that the problem isn’t with the renewable energy sources, but with the grid.
I’ve been doing researching building a medium-sized wind turbine myself for our own family’s energy. It turns out the technology is really fairly simple. If I can find a free weekend, I think I can pretty easily develop a prototype and different designs are better in areas that aren’t in “ideal” locations for the big wind farms.
The most complicated part of the equation is whether to be grid-tied or have your excess energy stored in batteries — and the batteries that are widely used for these applications are old lead-acid deep cycle batteries and it doesn’t seem like anyone’s marketing newer lithium batteries for solar and wind systems.
If I had any capital at all, I would be starting a business right now to market small- to medium-sized wind turbines with the whole system (whether battery or grid-tied) packaged for ease of installation. The answer is to have everybody create their own energy and only use the grid as back-up and then people can cut one more chain from the corporate feudal lords.
Well, it does appear that most of the folks claiming the “PUMA” label are actually Repub tolls trying to disrupt things, it probably isn’t that important.
Think of PUMAs as the current day political equivalent of the FBI/police infiltrators of various peace groups in the ’60s and such. You know, the types who would push for violence and other activities so they could then go back to their masters with stories of the violent hippies.
And also remember that the Rs under McCain have a far larger PUMA problem with Ron Paul supporters.
No, really. Here’s a great quot from one of the dead-enders:
There is the edge of sanity, and then there is the abyss.
McPow took some good hits from Hillary and the Gov. of Montana. Hoping Biden goes for the jugular of the Republican party and their failed ideology of personal greed and avarice.
I would love to see more of Governor Schweitzer!
Thinking back, if McCain had worn a red suit, when he gave that “speech” in front of the green background, it would have been hard to erase the image from our memories. Particularly with that striking white complexion.
Energy storage (and transport) seems to be a bigger than energy generation. Good luck.
Five and a half years of enforced celibacy during the prime sportfucking years of a ladies’ man’s life doesn’t entitle him to fuck the country.
Hi guys!
I know you’re all in Denver, so you’re not actually getting to see the coverage, but CNN has a little “FACT” box in the lower left corner of the screen where they flash stupid facts like how old the oldest delegate is. I knew, I just knew that they would have to use that fun “fact” that Bob Casey Sr. was denied a speaking slot in ‘92 because he opposed abortion. And sure enough, as we all know, zombie lies are impossible to kill — they didn’t just flash it, they had it up throughout Bob Casey Jr’s entire speech.
So did I miss the discussion about Barack’s and Joe’s tie choice when they met in Springfield?
I had sort of concluded that, after trying to follow their logic.
Oh gee, now I believe it.
I’m going solar next spring. A large portion of the roof on the back of my house faces just the right direction and is about the only portion of my lot that isn’t shaded. Fortunately, my local electric company will buy back excess, so I aim to install enough capacity to come out with the electric company owing me money every month.
Was it for situations like this that Rachel invented the word “post-rational”?
Yeah, his delivery reminded me of a sort of cheerful Louis Black.
do you have a linky for that?
EPU’d from April
If bomb, bomb, bomb McCain gets in office, the puma’s might not recognize the country in four years.
Just heard Ted Stevens won his primary in Alaska.
Really. I just think Clinton likes pantsuits. Finis.
Quite frankly, I thought she delivered more promise in her speech last night than I have seen Obama deliver in a while. She touched on universal healthcare, the plight of those left behind when jobs are outsourced etc. I hope Obama can throw himself into the universal healthcare bit much more. And backtrack on “overheated campaign rhetoric.”
I have one major issue with Clinton’s speech that I can think of right off, and that is at the end when she spoke of delivering promise to (paraphrase) “all Americans who work hard, nada nada, and believe in God.” I hate that last part. In fact it was quite jarring. It may be politicians’ rhetoric, but I hate it when politicians perpetuate this myth of an all-Christian America inadvertantly or otherwise, and that only those who “work hard” –forget about those who work hard and suddenly are axed from the job market through disability, race, age etc.– and “believe in God” deserve to reap rewards. Excuse me? What does that mean for those of other religions, belief systems, atheists as well as agnostics? Again, I think Democrats need to stay away from those Ronnie Raygun type sunshine myths, because it doesn’t reflect the reality of this country.
Hoo Haa for Ted!
Good Morning Firedogs
wha ? no love for Bob Casey’s “Sidekick” ?!?!? he had ‘em chocking on a whole bag (ho bag) of pretzels :D
Exhibit A for the PUMA crowd – this is a lighting ‘test’, the Orange won, period – better recalibrate those decoder rings
I have a problem with the exhibit link. I think my computer went blinky.
nah, I’m a little sleepy – try here :D
linky
Damn, a person can’t get away with conjecture or a lucky guess anymore. Good catch on the lighting test.
Anyway if she wore peach pink pantsuit, BrilloReilly would be salivating about getting her into the “No Spin Zone” (Yet another Brillo perversion confessed in one of his turgid turdlike books.)
works for me. spread it…
Healthcare is the progressives’ battering-ram issue. It knocks down the Reaganomics nonsense that free-enterprise is always more efficient (aka “the unseen-hand job). It’s a great issue for progressives, but not for the ever-so-bipartisan Mr. Obama.
Someone shoot me, I just donated to Hillary!
Here you go:

you’re such a softie!
Ian’s upstairs
the universe just shifted……
I can’t shoot. I did it too after her first concession speech.
Merci! I get blinky before copious amounts of caffeine as well.
So it was those goshdarned wardrobe people eh?
Screw that. Has he looked at the polls? Someone please tell Obama quick that healthcare isn’t a partisan issue, unless of course bi-partisanship means sucking up to Repukes and Blue dogs in a big way.
thanks!
I can’t, I’m a pacifist.
Afraid, the best I can do is have compassion for you.
EPU-ed, but doesn’t really fit in “Red Death” posting
Willy Geist visits the bloggers for Morning Joe…admits to being a video blogger…you attack one of us, you attack all of us….
Hmmmm, Christy, Jane, maybe you should meet-up with Morning Joe on his own turf….some cafe somewhere… I’m just sayin’.
I won’t shoot either. It’s one of the reasons I wanted Clinton to stay in the race, as I wanted Edwards to stay in the race. I wanted her to press hard on pushing Obama to a less than cynical plan for universal healthcare plan, and not let him back off with e.g.: it’s all “overheated campaign rhetoric”.
Good morning all,
Wigwam, I agree that universal healthcare is an important issue. I think that one of the strategies here is to talk with congressional candidates. Any change is going to be through congressional action. Jared Polis here is an advocate of single payer. Neither Obama nor Clinton were pushing single payer.
Yes and how do we get Dems to be less than cynical about the chances of single-payer Universal Healthcare? They’re obviously not heeding the polls of the “average american.” So what drives them? Club Congress?
They are replaying Hillary’s speech on C-span now.
How many of those freebies and sky boxes are paid for by the insurance industry. How many of the campaign contributions.
I thought Hillary’s line about Bush/McSame being together in the TWIN Cities next week was a good line.
Good question. *glum*
That was great and delivered with humour.
I thought Hillary’s speech was terrific, but listening to the buildup on MSNBC about the supposed rift, etc. and then the immediate turnaround in the story line it really came across to me like watching professional wrestling and oohing an aahing over a breakaway chair or something. The whole thing seemed like so much manufactured drama.
Now I’m just waitin’ for Bill to tear McSame a new asshole tonight.
I saw very little of that cause I wasn’t watching MSNBC. I saw Rachel and Olbermann going after former Clinton supporters, as if that was the only problem with the Dem campaign, and not a shift to “moderateness.”
Right. The Democrats are now the moderate wing of the Republican party. Karl Rove has won, but not the way we (or he) expected.
well i just want to share a video that i saw earlier in pollclash that Joe Biden has now been officially introduced as Barack Obama’s Vice Presidential selection well i you can see the video in http://pollclash.com
An interesting article from Tom Hayden about why the progressives need to support Obama.
Dreams of Obama
He points out that on policy there isn’t much difference between Obama and Clinton, but that McCain is likely to continue with the Bush policies simply because, if he gets elected, it will be because he somehow revived the coalition of neo-Cons, evangelicals, and anti-progressives that were the fundament of Bush’s coalition.
Obama will win because he attracted a new coalition and revitalized the Democratic party with young, minorities (including those of mixed race) and previously apathetic voters. Obama’s a party builder and brings in more voices to a party that has been in decline for decades. One will at least be able to negotiate change with Obama, and his selections to judicial and administrative positions will, at least, be amenable to imput from scientists and progressives where McCain’s appointments would, indeed, be more of the same.
