Here we go. Hold on to your hats.
Didn't take him long to say, "Barack Obama."
8:10
“Everything I’ve seen has convinced me that Barack Obama is the man for this job.”
8:13
"Barack Obama is ready to lead America. Barack Obama is ready to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. Barack Obama is ready to be President of the United States."
8:15
"Barack Obama knows that America cannot be strong abroad when we are not strong at home."
8:18
Really going off on the GOP's shitty economic record, torture, Katrina, cronyism -- "America can do better than that. And Barack Obama will do better than that."
8:20
McCain is a good man, but has embraced the extreme fringe of his party.
8:22
"They actually want us to reward them for the last 8 years by giving them four more...Let's say 'thanks but no thanks.' Third time's not the charm."
8:23
"Sixteen years ago, the Republicans said I was too young and inexperienced to be Commander in Chief. It didn't work in 1992 because we were on the right side of history. And it won't work in 2008 because Barack Obama is on the right side of history."
Wow, awesome.

Bill’s off to a great start.
I’m standing by with bated breath, waiting for your reports!
Bob in HI
“Last night, Hillary said she would do everything she could to support Barack Obama. So will I.”
It’s still the economy…
You can watch on C-SPAN
“Clearly, the job of the next President, is to rebuild the American dream, and to restore American leadership in the world.”
Wow, “Everything I’ve seen has convinced me that Barack Obama is the man for this job.”
(Applause)
Thank you Bill
8:12
“The long hard primary tested him, and with his selection of a running mate — he hit it out of the park.”
He’s being a very, very good Big Dog. But I’m sure the Very Important Pundits will find some wink or twitch or tic to call everything he says into question and spin it for McSame.
Whoo Hoo, Bill!
“The long hard primary tested him and strengthened him.”
Big Dawg on Obama
He said Constitution!!!
Barack will honor the oath of protecting our Constitution.
Barack Obama is ready to lead america and to restore leadership in the world.
BO is ready to honor the oath to preserve protect and honor the constitution of the united states.
BO is ready to be president of the US.
CBS and Katie will have body language experts on discussing his speech.
That was my favorite part.
i’m liking his speechifying
from enemies foreign or DOMESTIC?
Diplomacy first, military might as a last resort.
Gasp!
me too, he gives GREAT SPEECH always did
Don’t remember, an important point.
Yeah! Remember when we used to have a President who could speak in entire sentences, with 2 and 3 syllable words? We’re about to have that again…
I just saw the Mayor of Gainesville (where I live), Pegeen Hanrahan on CSPAN in the crowd. She’s a delegate.
the pundits tomorrow morning:
“Just take out the name Barak Obama and insert Hillary. That’s what he really meant.”
Any bets?
I always like his speecifying. He’s the only prez in my adult life who I actually liked listening to without embarrassment. And that includes Kennedy, whose accent drove me nuts.
Bill is hitting on all burners!
“Around the world, people are impressed by the power of our example, not the example of our power.”
HUGE applause.
President Obama will chose diplomacy force, military force as last resort.
When he cannot convert our adversaries he will stand up to them.
BO will not allow the world’s problems to obscure opportunities.
World challenges (Global Warming, AIDS, poverty, good jobs) cry out for American ideas. BO is ready to lead.
Power of our example rather than the example of our power.
Great line..
Whacking Republicans now! Goody!
I won’t hold my breath, until O has the job and lives up to at lest 50% of the promise Talk Is Cheap.
jo6pac
It’s part of the oath you swear to join the military, and part of the Oath of Office.
or in McCain’s case, the enemies who are his domestics.
Economy stupid
Awright here it comes! new rectal ventilation for Bush/McSame
This is the man to talk about the mess the neocons have made in the past 8 years!
Oh, yeah, they’ll say “He said MAN for the job.”
Boy, I can’t wait to hear McCain’s acceptance speech.
Republicans are bloodsuckers(paraphrased)!
sorry will choose diplomacy FIRST!
He said torture!!
KATRINA AND CRONYISM!!!!
torture it was uttered
He said TORTURE and CRONYISM!!!
attack attack attack
Katrina and cronyism — America can do better than that. And Barack Obama WILL do better than that.
I hope they use the green screen.
Oh, stop being nice to John McCain, Bill.
Wait for it…
He did.
he speaks……he really speaks………give me a cig…..sigh
This is excellent, hearing him dismantle the Republican record.
oh, believe me I know. That’s why I wrote that.
McSame!
In 2001, when pubs finally gained control…
look what happened
22 mil jobs to 5 million
8 mil Americans lifted out of poverty to 5 million more IN poverty.
McCain offering more of the same. More bandaids for healthcare. More uninsured.
This is one great speech.
paid $273,000/ year.
THANKS, BUT NO THANKS!
swoon Bill
The Third Time is not the Charm!
wOOt!
finally. red meat for a hungry nation.
WHOA! Michelle lookin’ SMOKIN!
Turns the too young and too inexperienced meme on its head.
No, I can’t; I’m at work here in Hawaii, where it’s not even 3:30 PM yet!
Bob in HI
Clinton - Too young and inexperienced to be Commander-in-Chief
great line!
OMG, I hope that Bill is right.
more of this puleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease
Meat is my favorite food, both actual and metaphorical.
Barack Obama will lead us away from the division and fear of the last 8 years, back to unity!
All my worries about “unity” are put to rest. And later we get Biden, and tomorrow Sen. Obama. Ahhhhh….!
Not bad, Bill. Not bad.
“If you believe America should be a place called Hope, then join Hillary, me and Chelsea in making Barack Obama the next President.”
rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrtigress
Bill delivered. He pumped up the crowd.
Now where will Kerry take it?
I would say he hit a homer in every inning.
Big Dawg done good y’all.
I’m watching this on PBS, and David Brooks is spluttering.
Chelsea is running soon. Who’s the rep in her district now?
yes we can
Sat. BBQ. If you need to stay overnight we have room.
Well done, Bill.
good speech.
Anybody know what Kerry is supposed to address? Other than swiftboat-style attacks on Obama? He did such a great job countering them when he was the target… /snark
Yep. Still have a strong emotional attachment to him. He’s got the charisma that touches me. Don’t know why, though.
I’m surprised his head hasn’t exploded!
Hi, Pups.
FunnyD
Even David Brooks likes him: “Like speech of a closing arguement.” Directly addressed the weaknesses, rebuttal of any Obama weakness.
It is wonderful to hear a speech of power and poetry. Clyburn: A great speech.
Still thinking on logistics. Will make decision tomorrow after early morning meeting & then let you know. I haven’t forgotten.
I missed that, thanks!
Wonderful speech.
Biden should keep it simple and direct because there is no way he can top a great speechmaker like Clinton.
Kerry will probably give a good speech for him but Bill is a hard act to follow, he knows how to work a crowd.
That was the keynote speech. Perfect.
that was a very, very good bit. but i can’t say it was a great speech. and i like speeches: whitehouse on the senate floor, or just about anything by gore between 2002 and 2007). i’ve listened to some of those many times…. but i don’t think i’d want to listen to clinton’s more than a couple of times. i must be missing somthing.
Biden will follow Kerry, so no problem.
Why is Michael Beschloss still viewed as an “historian”?
/rhetorical question
rf- wow- I almost said before “he know how to work a crowd”!
shut up TOM
Kerry never could do that very well. Actually he was better on the stump for others after he lost. Kind of sad.
selise- perfect for the moment, tho.
It will not read as well as it played.
Great speeches can do both. Not many fall into that category.
( insert laugh here )
DEAN was the barn burner
Why did they schedule this woman after Big Dog? All momentum gone.
As a leader his record was uneven but he is a consummate politician.
Wow!
This speech makes me nostalgic for the days when we had a president could string more than three sentences together at a time — and anxious for the day when that will happen again.
oh come eCAHN, it will be a pleasure to meat you ;)
here’s what it is;
gore you cherish what he is saying, you love the man, you are moved by the content
whitehouse smacks down the oposition with a vengeance
bill clinton is like sex, he has it all, gives us what we needed, quenches the thirst and you do not want to be spent on the same song
for instance, the greatest film I have ever seen, shcinlders list, I will never ever watch again
Kerry’s coming up before Biden?
I would have followed him anywhere.
Short term goal vs long term impact.
Great job on Bill’s part. Had the audience completely under control, they loved him. And very gracious.
yah TOM andMITTENS would be great for the economy
hahahahahaha
who could possibly follow?…who would want to
they should have dimmed the lights and told everyone to go have s cigarette
Luv the pun. Might make the difference. It’s always great to be wanted, too.
Gore also got much better AFTER he ran. He and Kerry were much too cautious during their respective campaigns.
It seems to me that the attack on Bush’s record is slowly building… Not so much yesterday, but more today. It will be interesting to watch tomorrow.
oh, that was subtle, Mr. Kerry.
Childrens do learn!
Richardson after Kerry and before Biden.
To make Kerry look good….
Work ‘em up, cool ‘em down, work ‘em back up.
It will be nice to have a president who can construct even one sentence, let alone put three together!
How could anyone other than a multi-millionaire/billionaire vote for McCane? I’ve lost good friends…
me too visionary imo
Thank heaven, yes….
Kerry’s hitting hard.
“US does not torture not now, not ever.”
OK then. Show us.
GUANTANAMO, TORTURE
I apologize Kerry
I wonder, just wonder, can obama follow this speech?
obama is good, real good, but it USUALLY seems to me like he’s speechifying rather the emoting and feeling what he’s saying as if he wrote it
obama has learned plenty but I seem to think his speeches are not as powerfull as he has moved forward, if you notice, kennedy became more powerfull as his campaign led forward, and clinton’s too
I don’s see that yet from obama…we’ll find out soon enough
Brokaw just reminded us that Webb says the Democratic Party has a to go a long way to gain the trust of Vietnam Vets. As a Vietnam Vet, how do I say this diplomatically, I say fuck both of you.
Gosh, if only 4 years ago….
I agree. I enjoyed it even though I understand most of this is atmospherics. Still there were many phrases I wanted to hear and did, such as cronyism and corruption.
Kerry said no to Guantanamo and no to torture.
Thanks, RevDeb. Hadn’t seen the line-up. And I’m so pissed that I have Back to School Night tomorrow and will miss the Obama speech…I’ll see it later, but it’s not the same.
“myth of a maverick” is good.
Ya got any cigarettes to share?
Weak candidate Kerry up. Why didn’t he stay the same person he was when he testified before Congress about being the last person to die for a failed war.
On following a great speaker, my knowledge is that one always wants to be in that position as the crowd is ready. On scheduling who will follow a great speaker, slot in someone who is not weak, as in that woman and Kerry.
Great comment.
see my 54
The United States of America does not torture, not now, not ever!
Kerry would have been a great president… makes me wonder how many Americans and Iraqis would be alive today if Kerry had prevailed.
FYI: No one but cspan airing Kerry’s speech
Oh, my. Kerry going after McCain’s voting record.
“Talk about being for it before you’re against it!”
lol.
clinton has always given me the creeps. makes my skin crawl. i know he’s supposed to have lots of charisma - but i get nothing. nada. maybe i’m missing the recepter?
otoh, imo, gore (post 2002) and whitehouse are hot.
go figure.
Kerry GOOD on McC. “Are you Kidding me?” Mcc. is debating with himself.
707!
Kerry’s doing a good job.
PBS is airing it.
Is everyone feeling better now?
I am. I AM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On NPR
Kerry hammering McCain for his flipflopping and his Rovian tactics and advisors.
Kerry’s talking about Rove/McCain tactics - will be rejected in 2008!
If Kerry attacks like this now, why the frack did he not do this 4 years ago???
Toms a chickenhawk tool
Watching CSPAN to avoid the nattering natterers of Natterville.
yes..all day
Kerry’s good!
Litany of McFlip Flop positions between candidate and senator Mccain.
“Talk about being for it before you’re against it!”
“Before he ever talks to Obama, McCain should finish the debate with himself.”
RoveMcCain tactics are outworn — america will reject them in 08.
Kerry should have done this in 2004.
anyway!
me gets the gore/whitehouse costume from house of holloween
Yep.
BTW, opportunistic garden turned out to be gourds, looking like watermelons about the size of a soft ball. So I have a decorative addition, but nothing to eat, more’s the pity.
My old man always said you can’t look up a dead horses ass.
new threadiness
As opposed to whom, for example? My favorite line for sure.
Save the talking heads for next week during the RNC. We will need them for the entertainment factor.
My thought exactly.
hahaha. costume not needed, just the speechifying.
awww they are showing the terrarist fist bumper’s uncle
PBS has been there the entire evening — at least here in Georgia.
How great to hear someone directly call the Pres. et al on their evil!!
I think it’s easier for him to speak about others than to speak for himself.
Roger that.
PBS is.
Does this indicate that during his campaign he was “handled” to death?
Bob in HI
Gore and Kerry– “handled” to death by DLC beltway pundits? The Clintons were supposed to be the new brand– but their brand didn’t transfer to Gore or Kerry. Gore, at least, struggled to figure out how much to (not) use Clinton, but always seemed restrained.
Even Hillary’s campaign was rocky. If their campaign organization had been as smooth as Obama’s, they might have won.
Bob in HI
Quote of the Day, from the Big Dawg:
”People around the world have always been more impressed by the power of our example than the example of our power.”
Agreed. Laugh-out-loud surprising and on target.
Remember that Christianity is a 5 syllable word.
