Well McCain went on Leno (known to we Letterman fans as "that hump" Leno) and the macro was hit:
Leno: "For a million dollars, how many houses do you have?"
McCain: "Could I just mention to you, Jay, that, at a moment of seriousness. I spent five-and-a-half years in a prison cell. I didn't have a house. I didn't have a kitchen table. I didn't have a table. I didn't have a chair...
Apparently that is McCain's 13th visit to "The Tonight Show", a dozen times more than the man he accuses of being a "celebrity", Barack Obama. I'm just glad the Democrats aren't nominating Joan Embery of the San Diego Zoo.
Stay tuned for the next episode of "Noun, verb, POW" when we go back into McCain's early years:
Admiral John Sidney McCain, Jr.: Johnny, I've looked at your class standing at the Naval Academy and I'm afraid a rank of 894 out of 899 is not likely to get you into flight school. I suggest you prepare yourself for the black-shoe Navy.
Midshipmen McCain: Aw, gee 'my Dad', don't you remember when I was six and you grounded me for five and a half days. 'My Dad', how am I expected to finish middle of the pack with that kind of baggage?
Admiral John Sidney McCain Jr.: Okay, Johnny, I'll make some phone calls. And just 'Dad' is fine.

Zed…Zed is dead, long live Zed!!!
so i guess he needs to make up for it???
I do hope he continues this line- it just cheapens his pow expirience
OMG! If he is this unhinged already, what will happen when Biden smiles into the camera and verbally snatches his testicles off. I can’t wait for his head to explode.
Norske, if you are still here; wrt Teddy, I wept. I was so prepared for him to be rolled out in a wheelchair or be feeble. But he stood the entire time, spoke in a clear strong voice and is still very much the lion. A joyous event for me.
Thanks for the post Attaturk and good morning pups.
Oh sorry, it is I Mr.Cbl taking over without changing the log in.
Back in the olden days, before any merit placement at the service academies, the very full scholarship were patronage slots. To this bloody day, 100 slots are set aside for children of active service members. Would be interesting to have some fresh faced kiddo news reporter ask McCain if he had to test into Annapolis or did he fill one of the legacy spots.
Citizen cbl2:
Awe great, I was 17 years old when John went down and I was stationed in the middle a the desert at White Sands jest back from ‘Nam when Bobby took another one for us and I brought my year old son on my shoulders at midnight to the old Minnespolis Armory to see Teddy give a barn burner for McGovern…the Kennedys have a very special place for this old broken down Scandanavian and I’m not gunna weep for Teddy, I’m jest gunna wrok my tail off ta contribute to gettin’ Obama elected. I gotta think thet beatin’ back the Clintons and seein’ a Bklack man elected to the White House has gotta be good for his soul.
Citizen Ruffian:
McCrazy is rapidly becomin’ a parody of ‘imself…before this thing is over he and the entire group of friendly fascists who have waited since Nixon to take this country down are gunna be cartoon figures in the rear view mirror of history.
You’re older than I thought.
Good morning, pups. It’s that dull tool Bobo and Mr. Herbert today. Bobo, who’s been spending WAAAY too much time tanning recently (or maybe it’s just that whoever did his makeup last night hates him) spit out a thing called “The 21st-Century Man,” in which he gurgles that Barack Obama is already an elusive Rorschach test candidate, and now he’s being pulled by his party in a thousand directions. Feh. Mr. Herbert writes about “The Dog That Isn’t Barking,” and says the race issue in Barack Obama’s campaign can come up in peculiar and jolting ways.

The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got a selection of bagels with cream cheese. A small suggestion — if you want to not only avoid the babbling bloviators and also see what’s actually happening at the convention watch on C-Span. Have a great day.
1,744 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Attaturk and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Maybe I’m gettin’ old and soft (well…I AM old and I always been soft) in my politics but lookin back this last 9 months of the campaign that Obama has run, I am absolutely astounded at the level of intelligence, skill, discipline and strength Obama has shown. Even though some a his moves (especially on FISA) have driven me to the edge a the cliff, every one of his “tacts to the right” have served to defuse a political landmine the fascists laid down to blow up in the face of the Democratic candidate and Party.
Obama has a way of bringin’ out the best in everyone who comes on board with ‘im…he has rehabilitated Biden’s strengths as a politician and a person, he has offered the Clintons the opportunity to regain a measure of dignity and legitimacy that they had squandered in the last year in pursuit of their ultimate ambition, he has quietly Epoxied Howard Dean to the DNC chair and he has accomplished what he has to this point without marginalizing or alienating ANYone in the voting public.
For my money, Obama is the smartest politician since FDR and he has exhibited more political courage to this point than any politician since Roosevelt by drawing the fire to himself and not tryin’ to triangulate his own support while runnin’ behind surrogates on issues.
And compare that to the ignorant, craven whining of Crazy “I was a POW” John McCain.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, THIS IS GUNNA BE FUN FOLKS!!
Citizen Raven:
Yo Brother Raven…yes indeed, I’m so old that the first time my mother yelled at me was for gettin’ buffalo shit on the carpet.
But never mind, where YOU been there Freebird…are ya back in Illinois now?
What you said. Twice!
Nah, I’m in the people’s republic of Athens. I needed to back off this pop-stand.
Of course the Kennedys had/have BALLS as opposed to obama who has about as much gumption as Pelosi.
McCain never used the word “POW”.
Time for a blogger ethics panel.
Wow! Lots and lots of voters in this neck of the woods are as disolussioned as one can get with his position on not only on FISA but, gun control, NAFTA, mentally disturbed women and abortion etc, etc, etc. He lost this household a long time ago and a slew of people we know, solid progressives every one, are going to vote for “neither of the above corporate candidates”
Yo everybody.
Noun Verb POW has now made it to Reuters. We have arrived:
Good Morning all, Read the thread seems McShame was a POW who would have thunk it.
NorskFlameThrower - If you had carpet on the floor when you were growin up you are just a young pup
Yeah or did John McCain go to school on affirmative action and take the place of a more deserving student.
Ha! The GOP despises that word and have turned it into a buzzword, but do we really need another small school bus kid as Commander and Chief?
I do not see how anybody who was the Chairman of the Senate Armed Forces Committee can mistake Sunni for Shia.
Has McCain answered the question publicly about how many Houses he owns?
Morning everyone!
I can’t wait!
“Noun Verb POW”
It’s worth reading the whole exchange at the link
“That sounds like 5 houses” aHAHAAHA
gotta go warm up my bagel
He spent 5 years without a house or a kitchen table or a chair… Did he ever mention that he was a POW?
How can someone who has been chairman of the armed services committee mistake sunni from shia
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkkTFVIxMQs
and besides he was a POW
Well according to the Bush administration McCain was not tortured.
Looks like me in HighSchool Math.
Perfect summation of how I feel as well. You could make a living doing this stuff, Norske.
And to think it was just four years ago when he was introduced to America for the first time at the previous DNC convention! When that speech in Boston ended, I immediately said half jokingly and half seriously, “Obama ‘08!” Still in awe of what he and Michelle have done.
One of the most exciting things to me about what the Obamas have done is the bringing down of the House of Clinton and the DLC. Seeing headlines like “The End of the DLC” is something I’ve been dreaming about for years:
http://dolores.newsvine.com/_n.....p-council-
Now it’s on to exposing the fraud know as John McCain and silencing the Repube Noize Machine. We gotta have the Obamas’ backs. This, along with Donna Edwards and others already on Capitol Hill and a new crop of Blue America candidates ready to move to DeeCee, and it’s a truly inspiring time we’re living in. Yes we can!
McCain is appalling. Period. And personally, I think what he does NOT want to have to say as an answer to the whole houses question is…he doesn’t actually OWN anything. I really do suspect that any assets that are owned in the McCain family have Cindy Lou’s name on them. By herself.
Well, off to the salt mines… where [snarl] there is no FDL.
That is even worse then we should ask McCain how many houses does his wife own? Then when he keeps ducking the question we accuse him of being ashamed of being a kept man.
A gigolo who can’t afford his fancy $500 dollar shoes on his Senate salary so his wife probably buys them for him by paying for a credit card in his name.
Seem to remember that Obama was chosen for the 2004 convention speech by John Kerry, and there was a lot of objection to that choice by Those Who Know Better in the cocktail weenie set. Kerry stuck to his guns and now here we are. One of the better decisions in Kerry’s career, and I certainly thank him for having that vision.
Sorry for the OT– On MSRNC just now Pimpster just called out Scarborough and took him to the mat. It waa hilarious! Mika was trying to calm Joe down.
A guy on c=span Patrick Ottenhoff, just mentioned Jane and FDL - Talking about twitter stuff
CSPAN Convention HUB Guy was just talking about Jane & Co at the ATT-Blue Dog party and the real reporting that’s available online! Check it out on the right hand side of this Hub page

Citizen Raven:
Sorry ta be so slow on the uptake but I got some sick folks ta take care of…it is TRUELY great ta hear ya, this place has not been the same in yer absence. I know ya ken take care of yerOWN self there Birdman but next time ya reach one a those spots where ya think ya gotta find some free air maybe a “heads up”…who knows maybe ya ken lean on some of us here, ya know maybe we need a wake up sometimes and we start ta take things fer granted.
But whatever…it’s great ta have ya back and we’ve still gotcher back there Trooper.
Morning everyone. I tuned into JoeScar and it seems there was a tiff between him and David Schuster. Schuster kept saying Joe should just admit that McC is wrong to mock supporters of the timetable since the Iraqis themselves want one (or something). Missed most of it but DS wasn’t backing down. Joe’s response was ‘you’re picking a fight with someone who wasn’t fighting you’. But I missed the very beginning of it.
this time to deflect sniping over the number of houses he owns.
Can’t decide whether that’s good or bad “framing” for our side……”deflect” = good; “sniping” = bad.
Riesz & solai -
Thanks for watching their tripe……..so we don’t have to. *g* I am so sick of seeing the same ol’ same ol’ talking heads on MSNBC; desperately hoping Maddow will have some different faces for us when she’s on full-time.
Well McSame’s got nuthin else to run on so of course he’s going to bring up the POW thing every chance he gets and when he gets tired of that he’ll point out that Obama is black. Then he’ll bring up the POW thing again.
Republican Campaigning 101
that’s just what’s on the wire. Good, bad, or indifferent, I think the important point is that it’s there in the lede.
I can take it in small doses, and this morning was one of those times it paid off. Joe was saying “Do you watch this show?” and then “Oh, that’s right, you missed it twice because you slept through your alarm!”. The guy’s a major league asshole. Of course so is Pimpster, but this time I was cheering him on.
Did you read this part of Norske’s comment?
It’s hard to argue with the results of Obama’s political calculus. Is he where he is by accident? I sure like having the upper hand for once in a Prez campaign.
The amount of people Obama has engaged and brought into political action is astounding. This is what has needed to happen for decades, and this is what will eventually allow us to restore the Constitution. I completely disagree with this idea I see around Liberal blogs sometimes that Obama could’ve stopped FISA and some of this other terrible bills from passing, since he’s “now the leader of the Party.” There’s been a large faction of the Dem “leadership,” (what many call the most “experienced” and “qualified” Dems in DeeCee simply because they’ve been there longest) actively working against Obama! Predictably and thankfully, the Party is starting to coalesce around the convention.
By running a ground up campaign where most of his money has come from small donors, which in essence he is checking and balancing himself by doing this, is enough for me to at least give Obama my vote. Obama has certainly earned more so than any Dem nominee I’ve ever had the chance to vote for, and obviously people can vote for whoever they want to, or not vote at all, but the thought of having more Blue Americans in Congress and Obama in the WH is quite exciting to me.
Gawd, can you imagine what it would be like under a McShame presidency.
News release Mar 2009 - WWIII has just broken out & Pres McShame, who served 5 1/2 yrs as a POW reflected on his time in captivity stating that he could remember …………………..
Additionally, after the destruction of NYC the president reminiced about having the wing shot off his …………………..
RevDeb @ 39 -
True dat.
Riesz @ 40 -
To whom was scar speaking about the alarm?
“Major league” ain’t nowhere close to how big an AH he is. *g* His comment, “I kid because I love” (or some such garbage) is to gag for.
Pimpster = ?
Pimpster = David Shuster.
I have to agree. I have not been happy with everything about Obama, and I’m certainly not some pollyanna, but he is the first Democratic nominee I’ve actually been able to whole-heartedly support. In my life.
I supported Kerry, but I was hardly enthusiastic. I was a half-hearted Clinton supporter the first election, but when he ran for re-election I voted third party because I was so disgusted with him.
Obama can certainly piss me off (FISA) but in the overall scheme of things I think he is in the mold of some of our great presidents.
And from that house in Vietnam he made many anti-American propaganda tapes. Way to go asshole!
Carol McCain suffered injuries just as bad as Johnny did, so what did Johnny do when he got back from his home in Vietnam? He cheated on her and then lied to her that he would pay for her medical bills/expenses. Ross Perot and the Reagans were the ones who did and who were there for Carol. Carol lost 5 inches of her total height while her husband’s penis was still functioning well!
Asshole. I hate men like that. Totally useless.
It is 3 am and your kids are all nestled in bed; the red phone rings next to McShames bed and he answers; POW Mcshame here. Mr.Pres the Israelis have just launched an all out attack and McShame responds well when I was a prisoner……………….
Citizen Bonkers:
Ya nailed that one there Citizen…and we haven’t seen ALL of Mr. Obama yet either.
I did not write that he could have stopped it but I did say that he could have taken a stand instead of doing the wishy washy thing. By supporting the immunization bill he has basically endorsed the meme that the pres can do any damn thing he/she pleases. Maybe he just loves the idea of a unitary pres and the profits that go with it.
I would love to vote for the first black pres just as I would love to be able to vote for the first woman pres but I want non-wishy washy candidates to vote for and not some character that screams “change” and then goes ahead with the damn status quo.
is this true? just haven’t seen any recent stats and would be very curious to see the data. thanks!
BT has a couple swim laps upstairs
obama also did two things that for me were critical -
1) he betray a promise he made to us to vote against any bill that contained immunity.
2) he lied to the american people about the bill after he changed his mind and decided to support it.
this wasn’t only about fisa and our descent into a police state - it is also about whether he actually believes in an informed citizenry. in lying to us he showed that he does not.
i understand why people would still want to support him considering the alternative. but that doesn’t mean have to mean fooling ourselves about him.
POW? yes. War Hero? I don’t think so.
Absolutely!
Citizen Selise:
Yes the small donars still fuel most a the cylinders, so even as the big corps start sniffin’ around Obama doesn’t hafta give up the farm ta get the big cash. This is jest the beginin’ of changein’ the relationship of power between the large cash folks and the federal government…it’s startin with the executive ‘cuz it’s easier ta develope a national small cash base but it’s gunna extend to the Congress and down to the state levels soon with the extension of the blogoshere and the applications of new technologies of communication and information sharin’.
Whatever happened during that period in his life, no important lessons were learned from the experience, despite the opportunities presented to him. No self-evaluation. No assessment of why he was there in the first place. No connection to the Vietnamese who held him captive (or saved his life). No conception nor synthesis of his rôle and the larger conflict and its impact. During those five or so years in captivity, he had the luxury of being able to think deeply about questions the war raised, to gain some insight into the culture he lived among, perhaps gaining an understanding of humanity, possibly developing empathy for and understanding of the people whose country he was trying to help bomb back to the Stone Age, and finally realizing his mistake for ever having entered into the conflict in the first place. Unfortunately for him and us, the lights were on, but nobody was home.
…”donors”…not “donars”
I had a dream last night. McCain owned a small cafe and after a long hard ride I stopped in there for a meal. I was told they had the best food in town but for now I could only get breakfast. Seeing as hunger already had it’s grip on me I decided to go for it. This is where it started getting weird. Three eggs and toast. Simple enough, huh? McCain brings me a plate, toast burned and no eggs. I say what’s up? He says with tears bubbling up, “you know I was a POW for 5 years. We didn’t have a toaster to burn our toast and the only chickens in the camp were owned by the guards and they didn’t have a butt. Do you hear me? We ate invisible eggs that came from a chicken that didn’t have a butt and your complaining about burnt toast, you’re un-American, you bastard.” Damn, I didn’t know chickens don’t have butts. Damn.
NBC is more than willing to provide McCane with a platform so he can catapult the propaganda. Leno is a rich celebrity that has done his bit for dumbing down the American public in the service to his corporate masters. NBC is worried that real change is in the air. Last night NBC’s Brian Williams, a Limbaugh admirer, did everything he could to not say Michell Obama’s speech was brilliant. His knees must be raw from servicing his corporate masters.
I’ve put links here many times over the last year or so showing this, but sorry, don’t have time at the moment to find the lastest numbers. During the primaries with Clinton, the amount of Obama’s small donor money was off the charts compared to his big money donations. Just a simple fact.
You also said:
His entire campaign is about activating and informing the citizenry, and he’s doing it at a level that’s probably never been done before. Working directly with Howard Dean, he’s setting up mechanisms to ensure this will continue for generations and keep increasing. His “Technology Plan” is all about bringing transparency to the process and getting the electorate engaged in their government.
I cannot figure out why fellow Liberals do not herald these initiatives, and why they are not at least worthy of someone’s vote. He is checking and balancing himself with the general public, not mega-corps, by doing all this. In my lifetime, no Prez nominee has ever proposed and done anything like Obama has in terms of getting the public involved.
Unless the tires of history leave a mark in the middle of their foreheads that won’t come out these fascists will be back. Thought they were finished after Nixon but they morphed into a borg collective.
They were not finished after Nixon because we did not continue with the impeachment. If there had been, at that time, a purge of the “evil doers” the entire chaynee rumsfeld crew would have been in the pokey and not in power.
A lesson that Pelosi has not yet understood.
not doubting you - just curious to see the data. thought you might have it at hand based on your statement. no problem, i can google it for myself.
as for the rest of your statement, i don’t completely disagree with the positive stuff. i just think it’s more complicated than that and i stand by my statement re fisa - which is a piece of counter evidence.
Yuk: Do we know he is an admirer? That is crazy. So sorry.
I don’t know who said if first, but McCain DID have a kitchen table. His first wife was sitting at it waiting for him to come home.
THANK YOU WACCAMAW for reminding me how wonderful Attaturk’s day-launching posts are and re-inspiring me. I am here late but grateful. Marion’s take on Bobo’s makeup made me roar… and talk of pimpster and mccain … loved the Joan Embrey line Attaturk….. Norske inspires… but I look at Obama and keep thinking of that Seduction of Joe Tynan movie… does he need a sophomoric narcissistic period before getting to the wiser and sadder statesman? Waccamaw … I too hope Rachel brings in more fresh voices like herself. Olbermann came from sports. What a gift he was. The 4th estate is so vital, since the three branches of government are so mangled and corrupt and the executive branch just devoured the powers of the other two, along with the lobbyists. So who did we get when we realy needed a 4th estate?. Judith Miller …… William Kristol…. Anyway, so glad I dropped by.
