Made my heart feel good to see him up there!
With love from one who lived in Massachusetts for 20 years.
Where’s the Kleenex?
moi aussi.
He’s still the one and always will be.
*passing out boxes of tissue*
That was one for the history books, folks. I think it will be referred to as Ted passing the torch on to the next generation.
Wow, just an amazing speech. Just an amazing man.
Caroline Kennedy seems pretty cool. Very comfortable in her own skin.
Good video too. Caroline is strong, really strong. She needs to step up and take big roles.
simply mahvelous!!!! and he looks great as well – god bless him… now there’s a real fighter!!!
I think part of the great narrative for Obama is if he can be the next Kennedy; to carry on the torch & vision that got cut short. There are seeds for that possibility; that really is the hope, I think.
THERE’S a STATESMAN for you. Tears in my eyes…
What a great speech.
Lovely man. Thank you Senator Kennedy, for all your work, all your efforts.
whata concept, from a white Irish family to ANNOINT …him,i feel really charged
I was primarily concerned that making the trip to Denver would be too much for him. I also feared he might be visibly in decline but he looked pretty darn good. That sea air must be good stuff.
his faith and courage through the years put us all to shame. that’s why we cry.
his undying faith in us, the people. god, how do you live up to that?
i was at JFK’s inaugural parade. this was indeed the passing of the torch. kinda scary. an awesome challange.
verklempt indeed, always when i see any of the brothers.
bless their souls
damn. missed it. will have to catch the video.
Thanks, Suz. Can’t stop crying.
a rare breed… a diplomat
She made a choice a long time ago to take a different path, but she’ll still step up to the plate and hit one out of the park for what she strongly believes in.
Thanks, egregious. Love that photo.
Went to cnn.com to see if there’s a pic from tonight-there is. A sad contrast.
Also, couldn’t miss a headline/link “Have Dems botched the convention so far?”
Un-be-f’in-liev-able. Sigh.
Teddy was one of a kind. Very few people let alone statesmen would stand up for the people, damn the consequences and who cares about the corporations.
We may not see that again in our lifetimes. Certainly not any time soon.
Maybe from Bernie Sanders and, if we can get him elected, from Al Franken.
Sitting next to 2 awesome guys who produce the online stuff for Comedy Central. Some egregious misconduct
The press room erupted with roars for Kennedy’s speech, several times
Made me cry.
She has avoided the public spotlight for years. Who knows, maybe she will reconsider taking a more active role. She could succeed Ted if she wants.
Those guys blogging for CC keep saying Caroline sounds bored.
What do you think? do they just not understand Massachusetts-ese?
And STILL the other channels show nothing but the bloviators… DISGUSTING!
Don’t miss a great eight-minute interview with AJ of FireDogLake, who explains the netroots business model hereabouts….
screw CNN. Watch it on CSpan.
From Booman:
Second that emotion.
Consider the wealth of the Kennedy family. Kerry too. They both would typically fit in better with the Rip Off Republicans, but NO. They care.
jim lehrer’s eyes are all red.
so are mine.
Behind me in the photo, Glenn, Ian, Tagaris
I was too. Had a front row seat on the facade of the Occidental Hotel. Was also on the steps of the Capital during the inauguration.
When the tumult and the shouting die please put together a post with all your links so we can give them the attention they deserve… Thanks, in advance.
re: my 21 — should’ve known – clicked: “from Republican strategist somebody-or-other.”
Never mind.
i was 11. how bout you?
me too… i weep for all of us,because weve been so abused and Teddy wants to end it
Arggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Rove is bloviating on Faux News as we speak!
Lehrer happily kneecapped both Gore and Kerry. Has he kneecapped Obama yet. I won’t watch the pr*ck.
Me too.
just want to hug them all
When I was a little kid mother used to talk about “noblesse oblige,” meaning if you had a lot of good stuff it was your job to try to help other people. She taught me this while I was wearing hand-me-down clothes from my cousins because she understood that we still had infinitely more than other people in our country, to say nothing of the world at large. The Kennedys live that concept in a way that my rock-ribbed Republican mother would weep to see.
Nice pic, egregious!
Dam got home to late to see Ted’s speech!! But I did Digg this post!! You can to!! Digg IT!
when less is more –
beautiful post, egregious!
Anybody know what time Michelle Obama speaks? Probably better get going if I’m going to get home in time to catch her.
I think Caroline will always prefer to work behind the scenes. The entire Kennedy family seems dedicated to public service but each chooses their own path.
The Lion Of The Senate. Other Senators, not nominated for President, may hope to someday be the equivalent to a wart on his ass, which would be a great achievement indeed.
here’s the thing. whenever i think Obama might be too much of a compromiser, i remember how passionately teddy feels about healthcare for all as a right, not a privilege (read ‘universal single payer”) and i know teddy wouldn’t have endorsed him so strongly if he didnt’ know where they guy was really at.
so, no worries here. straight ticket.
and i thnk all those supposed Hillary mccainites are a msm fantasy.
Step Away From Faux. It’s for your own sanity…
I’d prefer Michelle for President.
I was a puddle watching Teddy
Bom dia pups
I think it was KO (although might have been Tweety):
“We finally get to see a Kennedy grow old.”
Precious.
17. My dad was a musician and played the ball at the Sheridan Hotel. I went with the band. Not my first roady gig.
you know, i actually thnk jim lehrer is clueless most of the time.
ditto
I do, too. And no matter how many self-identified “older white woman for Obama” they interview or who call in to talk shows, they won’t let go of their narrative that Obama has “problems” with older women.
/s/ Older White Woman #5,000,001
I think he’s smart like a fox (newsman).
He’s speaking ASL!!! Bless him!
jim leher=LIGHT WEIGHT…imo fly weight indeedy
that is just way cool. i watched from a window of the uh washington ? hotel you know that one across from exec office bldg. while my dad whohaaed at the people from texas in the parade. my folks were wild for jfk. i was watching some thing today on youtube that showed the eternal torch at jfk’s gravesite and thought how that event, like th torch, is a black hole in america’s soul.
That’s Sen. Tom Harkin, who started his address speaking American Sign Language. As someone who works for a doc who’s invented a new cochlear implant I find stuff like that exciting…!
Sit! Wolfie and David Gergen were bemoaning that the convention so far had been all about the people in the hall and wasn’t good television. In blind head-up-their-asses self absorption, they refused to acknowledge that the Convention is not about them…nor about their divisive storyline…
and the convention planners had wisely scheduled the good stuff for when the nets came on air.
Poor Wolfie…doomed to be one of the gerbils. h/t Jon Stewart
((((SD)))
sent you a greeting down below
What is the saying about keeping your enemy closer?
Tweety is gross just sayin
Tweety’s combover is blowing away.
Hannity called Rove “the Architect” Yesssiree! The architect of Bush’s 28% approval!
Leher lobbed the softest of softballs to Kommmander Guy and grilled Kerry like a Philly Cheese Steak with Swiss Cheese. The trick for Lehrer was to pretend to be impartial, fair and balanced.
Faux News is not an enemy. It’s a terminal disease. Step. Away. From Faux.
From that Krugman link:
OMFG…and this is the pair who are NOT elitist?
That clip needs to go into an ad, too.
Keep in mind that Limbaugh was sending lots of Republics to vote for Hillary in Democratic primaries to mess with us. I haven’t analyzed the polls carefully, but I wonder how many of the “Hillary” voters who now claim to be voting for McCain are actually those Limbaugh sent over. I think true Democrats who supported her will eventually have no problem getting on board. I think Ted helped in that regard a lot tonight.
I saw an interview with Ted once in which he talked about driving home (or wherever they were spending the night in DC) with Joe Sr. the night after JFK’s inauguration, getting the car stuck and having to get out and push it out of the snow drift themselves. No motorcade, no chauffeur, no security to take care of it for them. It was a different time.
sick corrosive thinking
what little we saw of Fox, it wasn’t any worse than the breathless heathers on MSNBC or the very serious David Gergen on CNN
and we’re watching CSpan
Mewling Schmucks Now Bleating Cliiiiiinnnnton!
I do not understand what is the problem with egregious posting her links in these threads? There have been earlier objections I didn’t want to mention, but what is the problem? Skip them, or click on them, it’s kind of your choice….
(((wobbs)))
How ya doon?
Speaking of talking heads, it still ain’t the same without Tim, even though at times I wanted to throw a brick at the TV…
sometimes i actually think jim lehrer tries to be a journo like the euro types who actually grill people, but he picks the wrong folks. when he does it to repubs they stonewall him. Dems are polite generally.
that’s my take anyway.
not to say he’s harmless though, he isn’t
Wasserman Shultz…finger in the wind dip
christy upstairs with the seiu bash report
take a breath Debbie…exhale….chilllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
Wasserman-Schultz just talked about McCain offering more of the same — but it occurs to me that, with him wanting to quash women’s reproductive rights, he also offers less of the same!
They both make good points about the Obama’s achieving what they were supposed to do, and still catching sh!t from the scumbags.
That goes beyond fabulous…! I am SOOOO in awe!
hey thanks for being here tonight ya’ll. and for all you do.
time for bed. have to see michele manana.
Wait a minute. The guy at the podium has an R by his name. He’s also speaking in full sentences.
It’s just that I’d like to have the time to properly give them attention — in no way meant as a bash, it’s just that I don’t want to miss any, and I’m too fracking old to do all of it at once…
(((EGREGIOUS!)))
wuv you. go firedog go !
Can’t wait to see the vid, EG! Or Comedy Central.
Former Congresscritter, one of the old-timey moderate Republicans who were purged.
yup but Tweety still sux McStain knob, and wouldnt give 10 cents for OTHER peoples kids
doing good
how are you?
It had snowed like a bitch the night before. We lived 1 mile the other side of Mount Vernon. I started well before dawn and walked to National Airport. They had partially cleared the road from the airport to town and the AB & W buses were running. It was Inauguration Day, an’ all. Caught a bus into town and was in time to be able to get on the bottom section of the stairs of the Capital. Security was the cop on the beat (anybody remember them?) who stopped to listen with everybody else. My dad brought my tux when he came and I changed at the hotel. Great day.
a transcending candidate? from a repub? goof man!
Leno asked McSame how many houses he owns and he said he lived as a POW for five and a half years!
Shameless!
i meant gooD man oops
No doubt. Rachel giving some good noun/verb/POW ass kicking to Paddy Buchanan.
The crowd loves Rachel.
Maybe she can get Buchanan to walk off like little Joe.
We have added video of Kennedy’s speech, refresh
Hat tip Scarecrow.
Primary tomorrow for us. Nervous as a whore in church.
I was listening to (Jim Leach?) on TV without watching. The whole time he was speaking, it sounded strangely familiar. I finally figured out who he reminded me of… Melvin the Martian.
Wow, even the lovely Noron smacks Buchanan.
he screams over everybody…grotesque man glad he didnt procreate
I have such a girl crush on Rachel Maddow
I just noticed — the backdrop for the speakers is red. Interesting choice, particularly for the Republicans who may tune in to look for ammo. It may put them at ease!
say that again and again and again………. jus sayin…
That is such a great story. I was on the grounds of the first Clinton. It was a beautiful, sunny day. Thanks for your account.
good luck with the primary. I’m sending lots of positive energy your way
class act!
Daily. At least twice!
So does my wife.
me too!! :o)
Nervous as a whore in church.Republican at a deposition :DEMK electrifies the convention. Those of us who once voted for RFK know that we will not see their like again.
Smiles for your good Mom.
I voted for McCarthy- but the Kennedy piece tonight was terrific- deepened my connection to my party.
She was a pistol!
She is too femme for me. :)
Oh, and after Kent State she called me at work to inquire about the protocol of wearing a black armband for the kids who had been killed. And she wore one. Like I said, she was a pistol… or sui generis, if you prefer.
one of things not covered in the tribute – is how sharp Teddy is -
an interview in 05 listening to him reel off statistics about casualties. the interviewer started asking him questions based on EMK’s responses – and was just stunned as what a heavy weight/thinking on his feet guy he is -there was no way some of his responses came from some staffer’s crib sheet – he actually cared enough to be seriously conversant and not just well prepared
Got a couple Kennedy stories. Met JFK when I was little, worked on the campaign in DC and saw him again on board ship. I’m a total Kennedy fan, warts and all.
Michelle Obama is a Capricorn, just like me! She’s Jan. 17, I’m Jan 18. Now I know for sure that Obama ain’t gonna get away with crap in that house!
And starting with JFK, we lived though some true idealism. RFK carried all that on. Then we were in shock from the losses, I think
me three
Obama is a Leo (like Bush)
LOL Marion
yea just like McDuuuuuuumy
Heh! Mr. Marion in Savannah calls my being a Capricorn the cross he labors to bear!
McCain a Virgo
Wow, very strong facial resemblance between Michelle and her brother.
Those are great memories….Im a big fan too. That story has effected my whole life. I regret so much that I did not go to the Peace Corps; sometimes I think I still may. Some of that dream is still there.
Biden all over the place. Odd. I didn’t think the Veep candidate showed up until later in the week. Or am I mistaken?
I am so sorry; not a big believer. Im going to try to forget.
I can’t go back…tired…sorry it’s this or not at all.
I was just wondering if he is going to attend every night? Surely not.
mky friends 62 year old boss is going next month…….way kewl!
The dream never went away. It got sidetracked, then hijacked and now we have a real chance to take it back. Granted, a little at a time, but keeping a good hold this time.
Do you know where the boss will go?
SD: It is another chance. This is a remarkable time.
I hear my tree callin’ me. Long day tomorrow.
Uncle Teddy was wonderful.
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.
Namaste
Am I being fussy or is Michelle’s attire not exactly a prime fashion choice? It could just be me.
But her presentation style is good. Honest, frank, straightforward.
Not watching – what color is she wearing?
It’s a pale aqua…I think it’s OK. Not at all flashy.
She has the most incredible smile. Lights up the room.
My dad was a reporter covering Bobby’s speech at the Anaheim Convevtion Center the night he was shot. I was 17. My dad was stooked about Bobby carrying the torch. My family talked lots of politics at the dinner table. TYhanks for your inspiration tonight Mr Ted.
Tears and all. Love you.
