Last night I was at a party with Matt Stoller when he found a notice in the paper announcing a party that AT&T was having that night for the Blue Dogs.
Glenn Greenwald instantly became a man with a mission: he wanted to go interview the guests and see how they felt about their telecom hosts and the retroactive immunity delivered to them by the Blue Dogs, at bargain basement prices.
We had no invitation, but nobody really cared.
So Christy, Pach, John Amato, Egregious, Ian Welsh, Dave Neiwert and Stoller headed for the party. Using my HarrietCam flip video, I was Glenn’s videographer as he asked one guest after another why they were there and what their connection to AT&T and the Blue Dogs was.
It was remarkable. I’ve never seen anything like it, really. Glenn would announce that he was from Salon.com, ask them if they would be interviewed about the party, and nobody wanted to say who they were or even acknowledge that they knew what the party was about.
Almost every single person we talked with had the good sense to be ashamed of being there, but that didn’t stop them from going in.
We’ll try to have the video up soon and try to identify as many guests as we can. If they’re eating AT&T’s cocktail weenies, they shouldn’t be afraid to let their telecom flag fly.

For years it has been a joke that news in the United States is terrible: obsessed with trivia and celebrity; fronted by Botox bimbos; forever interviewing citizens about some artefact of small-town life when a major news story is breaking elsewhere.
Well, the truth is that it’s far, far worse than that. There are a multitude of news channels – CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, PBS, Fox. But after an hour of flipping between them during lunchtime last week, this was the sum total of information gleaned: there are two US presidential candidates; they have produced campaign ads; people have made video parodies and posted them on the internet; a US TV news host appeared on a US TV chatshow last night; and someone said something controversial (read ignorant) on a different TV show the day before.
FRAUD?
Dang!! More of us have to show up in four years. Jane, Glennzilla, John Amato, Ian and all the rest raising hell in Denver. Run into Marcy or Atrios yet? Josh Marshall? Young Ezra? How about Joke Line? Atrios has a picture of him looking half in the bag yesterday.

According to Pearl Jam’s website, portions of the band’s Sunday night set at Lollapalooza were missing from the AT&T Blue Room live webcast. Fans alerted the band to the missing material after the show. Reportedly absent from the webcast were segments of the band’s performance of “Daughter,” including the sung lines “George Bush, leave this world alone” and “George Bush find yourself another home.”
After questioning AT&T about the incident, Lollapalooza was informed that material was indeed missing from the webcast, and that it was mistakenly cut by AT&T’s content monitor. Tiffany Nels of AT&T told CMJ that they are working the matter out with the band. “We regret the mistake,” she explains. “This was not intended and was an unfortunate mistake made by a webcast editor.” She went on to explain that AT&T has a policy for any excessive language, and that it was set up because of its all-ages audience.

The GOP should have gone first with their convention because the odds that the Stock Market will go down at our convention are the same as the market going down at their convention quite high. Which the GOP will use as a fact/random coincidence to attack us with.
But if the Market goes down at our convention and stays down at their convention then they will have to eat some crow.
Plus since their convention is after ours they will get the blame if the market goes down after their convention.
Of course planning like this is impossible if you blank out any mention of the market going down.

Glenn Greenwald has a good post today on the Beltway’s enthusiastic acceptance of Joe Biden (as a re-affirmation of themselves). He also skewers the Broder-esque David Ignatius who talks about how confrontational Congress has been the last 2 years and what hyper-partisans Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are. It never ceases to amaze and dishearten me that people like Broder and Ignatius get paid to write the shit they do rather than being bundled off to the funny farm.

Re economics and the election, much as happened in the run up to the 2006 elections, gasoline prices have been declining. This mutes a lot of anger and frustration that would otherwise be expressed largely against the Republicans. There have been some changes in the futures market to reduce excessive speculation but nothing fundamental or thorough-going so I have to ask myself if what I am seeing isn’t another political manipulation of the markets to help John McCain and the Republicans. This really isn’t conspiracy thinking by the way. Excessive speculation has been the controlling factor in crude oil markets since 2004 and is itself just another form of market manipulation. If markets can be played for economic reasons, they can be played for political ones as well. After all, the two are really not so different.
That gives me an idea. Too bad no one had one of those mascot outfits. And could dress up like a Blue Dog. LOL!! That would piss them off I bet.

gathering dust? mine too.
i eat only when i’m hungry, including plenty of times asking myself, “are you sure? try waiting 5 more minutes.”
i avoid “empty” calories & eat plenty veggies.
i stay active, going out of my way to walk farther during regular daily routine, regularly do moderate bouts of exercises, stretch and bend LOTS to stay flexible and keep muscles from getting sore.
i weigh myself every few days, & don’t obsess about the daily ups & downs.
if i’ve been really really good for awhile, and really really want that piece of pie, i cut it small and eat it without guilt.
it’s working! but i’m not done. i’m looking fwd to not having to lug around all that xtra baggage, & already feel better.
