It was the seat of John Rhodes (I think he was then the House Minority leader) and the rumors are that McCain was in a rush and kept pushing him to make a decision or McCain might have tried for the House in some other states instead of Arizona.

When he finally did decide to retire, McCain and Cindy just jumped right in there.

In the Navy, awards and training are on what is known as Page 4 of the service record. That, and couple other pages, plus medical records are given to the service member upon discharge. The Navy keeps copies but the service member gets the originals.

I have little hope that Obama/Biden will be change agents, though I did hear Obama say that he wanted someone in the VP slot who will challenge strongly his own views so that he has a rounded view of the issues.

Where change will happen is at the grassroots. We need to nurture and work for change agents at the local level, then promote them up as we build our own works at the ground level.
