The schedule of events and speakers and everything else next week is jam packed. No idea how we are going to cover it all, but we are certainly going to do our best. I’ve got my handy digital camera, so if nothing else, you’ll get a load of candid snapshots of something…who knows what we’ll find out while we are there, but you’ll learn it along with us.
Thought everyone would enjoy a little Bruce this morning, covering a Woodie Guthrie classic.
So what’s up with you? Pull up a chair…

G’morning, Christy.
Good morning Christy.
I thought I forgot my phone charger when I went to Netroots Nation. Someone who lost his cell phone gave me his charger. When I got home, I had 2 chargers in my suitcase. So check carefully; you may not have forgotten the item after all.
Yea for Bruce Springsteen! I saw him recently with my longtime pals at Gillette Stadium in Mass. and have been reeling ever since because of his fantastic performance!
Thanks Christy for starting our day with The Boss. ;-)
Envy you your mile-high city adventure. What an interesting gig that convention’s gonn be. Meanwhile, my town is preparing itself for the plague of Republicans in September. Urgh. Had no idea what a huge impact this will have on businesses in the convention area. No-drive zone is extensive, and knowing the area, the congestion is absolutely awful for hockey games etc. at the Xcel. Very eager to get your reports from Denver. Wish I could be there.
cables, chargers, extra batteries
denver as stores but just ask Marcy, chasing down a compatible cable can take time
deep breathes, but have fun too.
Morning!!!!
#rd day of sunshine in a row, a record this summer. I may have to water the garden.
Hope you have a great time at the convention. What an awesome experience and responsibility you will have.
I don’t trust the MSM to give it to us straight so I’m counting on you and others to let us know what is really going on.
Wave those key rings and Godspeed!
Diane
Saw Bruce back in April. Roger McGuinn was the surprise guest. Great show. People here were amazed that he did about 25 songs and played 2 and a half hours. I saw him back in NJ a few years ago and I thought it was a little short! He just did 3 shows in Giants Stadium at the end of July and played 30 songs and did 3 hours a night. Nobody, but nobody, better than Bruce & The E Street Band. Oh yeah, and he endorsed BO in the primaries.
Speakin’ of Bruce & Woody… he does a great I Ain’t Got No Home. Kinda apropos with all the foreclosures and all.
Morning Christy,
Welcome to the Denver area. Hope that traffic doesn’t cause a ozone alert while you are here.
I’m about half way thru reading The Dark Side, an awesome book. Don’t know how Mayer can keep working on the topic of torture, it’s so depressing. I’m going to try to remember to show up for book salon today.
Good Morning all. Have a safe trip Christy and have fun. I just love Bruce, and he does look great in that video. Swooning here.
you’ll just drive yourself nuts trying to cover everything. why not pick a couple of stories that interest you the most and cover them? you might have more fun with some of the pressure off and while i can’t speak for the rest of the folks here, for my part i’d rather read your writing about the stuff that really matters to you anyway.
…. i know if i were going, it would be the organizing and backstory to all the protest actions that would have my interest. but that’s not for everyone.
what was it campbell used to say? follow your bliss?
Every generation gets its Keefe Braselle.
Good morning, Christy – and everyone else. Well, today I am “paying” for the three weeks in the UK…we are moving offices next week so I am (as we speak)cleaning my office and boxing up stuff.
Hi MM!
Try this for another swoon- it’s not political, but still…
It’s 10+ minutes long, but does he ever have the audience in the palm of his hand-
Bruce Springsteen – Twist and Shout
Christy, you guys have regular media credentials? Do you need them? I don’t know how this convention business works.
Bruce the best. Just the best. So real.
Good morning and have a safe trip, Christy! I’ve got a couple of ripe tomatoes to pick this morning and a huge amount of green beans to cook with bacon.
(I hope you get a picture of Jay Rockefeller with his free AT&T tote bag).
Good morning everyone. I was hoping each of you could send me a text message in reply.
Good Morning, Christy…travel well. I hope it is a really historical experience where our next President is named. You will be part of the scene. Great.
I woke up this am to hear the VP story. Then in my inbox there were about 4 “alerts” that had come in just after midnight. The Obama one was later about 3: am. So we have been informed. Now it all feels like the story will have a life of its on…I am so ready. Our country has already turned a page by having this man at the head of the ticket for President. Keep Hope Alive…
Yup on the bliss following via Joseph Campbell. Amazing man. And paired with Moyers, double the pleasure, double the fun. Okay. Not so much fun. Brain fuel? The environmentally friendly kind.
Good morning Christy (et al),
Hope all is well with you and yours as you prepare for Denver. Am so pleased we’ll get to “see” what’s happening through FDL eyes.
Am off to Raleigh today for a big party. It’s one where politics may intrude a bit as many who will be there are friends of John and Elizabeth’s. Am trying to prepare myself for how to handle those conversations.
On a brighter note, and speaking of lawyers marrying lawyers, my daughter is now officially engaged to one of her law school classmates. I will see “the ring” for the first time today and hear of their wedding plans.
She’s an only child but this momma is just going to sit by quietly, watch and enjoy the process. Really like her fella and am so pleased for them both.
I smile as I remember her saying before law school started “I’m just going to work hard and avoid getting involved in any romantic relationship”. ;-)
Hey VG, big hug to you. I’ve seen him do this, and it’s just great. Thanks! Who needs coffee after that.
Safe trip, Christy. Go get ‘em!
I hope you get a picture of Nancy Pelosi’s empty table.
Joseph Campbell is a hero of mine, along with Bruce. I love Campbell’s work, and it’s inspired a big part of my work as an artist. There was Mythos Festival in Philly back in the 80’s that reveloved around his work. Great events.
Hey Christy- sorry my first message was to MM, but you got me distracted with the Bruce Thing!
I got no idea as to what to suggest you might be forgetting.. I hope you are being driven to the airport- I only say that because once I left my car in the airport parking lot, and forgot to take the keys out of the driver’s side door (yeah, I forgot something, and went back to get it from the car). Keys were still there when I returned…
PJ’s. Always forget them.
MM- Big hug to you too! And to anyone else of similar spirit! ((((hugs))))
EPU’d from previous thread:
http://civilliberty.about.com/….._biden.htm
Not perfect, but I’m excited nonetheless. We need to win this one.
One of my big regrets is that I didn’t discover Campbell sooner. Now it’s been so long since I’ve read his work, I need to go back to it because I’ve forgotten much of it. I actually have been heard to say that I’m awed to know I was walking the planet at the same time he was (or at least part of that time). I still have Moyers!
Another photo suggestion for Christy.
I hope you get a picture of Joe Lieberman not being there.
And I hope you get a picture of Ted Kennedy’s Democratic spine. (Can you tell the caffeine is taking over at chez barbara/david?)
Morning Christy. We’re all going ti be busy, busy, busy this week. Naturally, my plum tree, which had an outstandingly bountiful crop this year, has ripened all at once. So now, I’m running out to events, organizing my district for a lit drop, hosting a huge Drinking Liberally party on Obama speech night, AND putting up plum jam. I swear, there’s gallons of the stuff! But the tree couldn’t wait one more week. And this year we had so many on the tree that we actually got to eat some, yum!
A Little advise on visiting Denver from on e who lives here: the air is thin here and desert-dry. The low oxygen can make visitors tire very quickly, and give them headaches. The remedies are to move slower, and rest often, and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Also advil, or similar for minor headaches. Oh, and don’t for get your chap stick, your lips will dry out in a Denver minute! Don’t worry, it usually take folks about 3 days to adjust to the altitude. Have fun! Oh- one other thing- the altitude sends any alchohol straight to your head!
I was fortunate to have a friend turn me on him by asking me to attend that festival with her. I had no idea who he was until then. You did discover him and that’s what’s important.
“I hope you get a picture of Joe Lieberman not being there.” Actually, a nice aggressive shot of Obama backing Joe up against the wall might be a day-brightener for me.
Besides all the electronics needed cables, chargers, batteries, etc. remember to pack your medicines and your most comfortable bras. You will also want the most comfortable shoes you own.
Have a wonderful time! Take loads of pictures! Blog frequently for those of us who are going to be enjoying the convention from afar!
My experience is that chapstick(tm) doesn’t ‘do’ the job(I ended up once with a huge weeping – oh, forget it). Only thing that works in that atmosphere for me is the hemp stick stuff from Body Shop — comes in a tube but even if you are a lip licker(and lipstick chewer)as I am, it seems to last a whole lot longer.
I’m with you, Selise. I’d rather hear about the protestors and their *cough* free speech zone *cough*.
I’d also like to hear about the homeless whom have been scuttled away from public eye.
Breakfast for David time. Stay cool, folks. (Hot and dry in MN)
I am just a gadfly and an observer on the Net but …
I am glad to hear some reservations about Obama’s VP choice here on FDL. Not that I want to be negative about Obama or anything but …as an Obama supporter I am concerned with choosing someone who is so …establishment. Biden voted for the war with all his supposed foreign “expertise”, his support of the Medicare bill ~ I go to the food bank every week and see the results of that vote with seniors who used to be middle class having to choose between dog food and medicine. Very distasteful to me is that Biden was a representative of We The People and then ignored our interests (pun intended) and voted for the bankruptcy bill. I know he is from Delaware where all those credit people live, but I am having a hard time forgiving him for all that.
I hope you have a good time at the convention, Christy. I hope you can convey to someone in power that some of us, maybe even many of us, are having some problems combining Obama’s call for “change”, with “more of the same” by choosing an insider who seems to be pretty comfortable with the status quo. In short perhaps Obama’s got some ’splaining to do.
My 2 cents
So excited that FDL will be at the convention. Tell me, in case I missed it, are you going to the repub convention as well?
I know Jane once said no, but I thought it would be great if you all were there.
I think the choice of Biden will help slightly in PA. The economy and life style of the southeast corner of PA is tied closely to DE. A lot of people work in Wilmington, and shop in DE because there is no sales tax. Considering this area is a critical swing area in PA, I think this will help motivate people to vote for the ticket.
Also, I have friends who used to live in Wilmington, and as of a couple years ago before they moved, Biden still went door to door to talk with his constituents. He may not be my choice, but I do support it.
yeah, chapstick used to be a whole lot waxier, and less vulnerable to licking. But really, anything will do, with enough applications!
I didn’t know’d that Bruce Cockburn covered any Woody Guthrie. (Flash is disabled.)
Watching MSNBC…..Lugar was advising Obama to pick Biden? That’s what Chuck Todd just said.
“Come Back Woody Guthrie” by Steve Earle. The sound quality is poor, but I don’t think Woody would have minded.
I just know I’m forgetting something, but no idea what.
Cool. Happy with Biden. Happy to welcome everyone to Denver. Looks like the weather will be kind to us. Lots of cool stuff going on around town. Chuck Todd should take a short walk over to Confluence Park or the hill in Commons Park; the backdrops are much nicer.
Sorry for the above misfire.
Jeez, don’t you hate that? You’ll remember the instant that it’s no longer possible to retrieve whatever it is.
Safe travels, Christy.
Go to your feed store and get some Bag Balm. It keeps cow’s udders from getting chapped and can stand up to nursing calves. Tiny tins are available at quilting stores for way too much money. Feed stores have it cheap. Also works great when it’s cold and you can’t wear gloves to do the work you need to do.
CNN has already had the McCrazy campaign’s first attack ad hand delivered to them this morning. It consists of a couple of anti-Obama statements made by Biden during one the the 22 (?) Dem debates.
yawn. The Obama campaign would do well to contact Phoenix Woman and tap into her list of Republicans saying (hopefully, on camera somewhere) that a McCrazy presidency scares the crap outta them, and produce its own commercial with those.
Oh yeah, JoeScar is back on the air this morning.
yay. /s
Christy must be busy packing. Anyone know if FDL decided to go to the repub convention?
Remember Samantha Bee asking a guy from Montana if he’s met a black person yet? The guy answered. Hysterical.
If McCan’t picks Mittens, who sons serve nobly here supporting their Dad, this presents a huge contrast in commitment to public service.
Son would vote for Biden as VP from Iraq
Let the MSM cover the Republics, you know how reliable their reporting is (a la consider the source). They should make a hames of it (Slanguage, a dictionary of Irish slang, to make a hash, mess, muddle of something).
I would love it if security grabs him live on tv and removes his ass from the building! Oh, how I would love to see that.
I’d be even more alarmed if I were Biden. Won’t he be a target? Keep him here.
Let’s make this video of Barack Obama viral!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEkIuJ7bX2M
Thank you Jayt & Eureka Springs for finding it for me last night! To me, this video reflects who Barack Obama is on the inside. He’s got a big heart and with Joe Biden at his side now will be working hard for the working class of our country.
I am so proud this morning. If my grandmother was still alive, she would be teary eyed and proud too knowing that the hard working class of our country will be represented in the White House!
I’m told the three-way traffic signals in Denver are really interesting: cars, cars, pedestrians; cars, cars, pedestrians. And pedestrians can cross on the diagonals, too, not just one corner to the next.
I’d really hoped Obama would choose a running mate who wasn’t from the corporate wing (my preference: Dean). I’ll still vote for him, but no money.
Good Morning Christy and Firedogs,
about that chapstick. commenting as someone plagued since childhood with chapped, cracked lips . . .who also wears that very drying 8 hour lipstick for work -
Haven’t had chapped lips in 5 years using this
originally developed for chemo patients, man oh man does it work !
Ernest Lazlo would fall over dead, but I have used it as an all over facial moisturizer in winter – big difference
back to your regularly scheduled PUAC :D
Bras? DFH’s don’t need no stinkin’ bras! Have a safe trip to all the Firedogs and give them some progressive hell. Stiffen their spines.
That would be something I’d expect a Republican to do.
de nada. Did I mention that I’m still a little light-headed from your thank-you last night?
Thank *you* !! *g*
I’m so happy Obama chose Biden — not for me, because I have reservations about him (he’s had to make compromises I don’t agree with) — but for all the older Democrats I know who have been expecting a trainwreck in November. They know and love Biden — and I’ve already talked to several today who are now on fire for November. He speaks their language — and now their hearts are with us.
We need them.
LOL Jayt. Well, I needed some chapstick this morning if you know what I mean. ;-)
I thanked you and Eureka Springs for finding the video for me! I can’t tell you how long I’ve searched for it. I’m serious. I was beginning to think I had dreamed it and it didn’t actually exist.
Have a safe trip, Christy.
I second the advice on altitude adjustment; be sure to get lots of water and rest in the first 24 hours or it may be impossible to catch up.
Please keep an eye out for Operation Chaos types and other infiltrators sent to stir up trouble and have your camera ready for them. Remember to look at the shoes: didn’t they catch the police infiltrating a group because the idiot forgot to change out of his police boots?
spit shined Birkenstocks are always a dead give away :D
I wanted George Mitchell to be Barack’s VP, but choosing Joe Biden is the exact same thing as Mitchell! Bravo Barack!
George Mitchell is also a “poor” politician with the idea that serving the people by being in office means you ACTUALLY serve the people and not your OWN POCKETS.
Here’s the George Mitchell story (9 pages long):
http://findarticles.com/p/arti…..i_15434788
Biden….Mitchell….same thing in my book!
Much earlier this morning this was a comment. Has anyone read Robert Fisk’s latest commentary? It really is something that should be read, it is central to modern history as it is.
http://www.independent.co.uk/o…..06480.html
Without this kind of information, what is presented as history becomes propaganda without substance. When history or opinion is presented that doesn’t conflict, then there is assurance of historical accuracy.
or is deliberate ignorance the desired outcome?
Ferragamos might offer one a clue too.
***thanked you ON MY BLOG
;-)
my sister turned me on to aveeno lip balm, i love it…..i was a cherry chapstick girl…
aveeno wins, and i’ve tried many. and sister buys a new one all the time, we are both ’stuck’ on aveeno now.
But now we are removing 2 vital Senate votes. Does that mean that we will have to beg the pious pixie to remain in the Dem caucus? So much for a Senate that will be able to do anything. Rats.
Bras? DFH’s don’t need no stinkin’ bras!
Or pajamas!
I’m not worried. Democrats will replace Democrats this year. The mood in the nation is such that it would be considered treasonous to put a republican in office this year! LOL ;-)
bom dia pups
wanted to wish all safe travels to denver before i head out (food bank distribution weeekend)
take care
great stuff, but can’t use it on your lips.
also great for animal first aid.
So with the VP slot filled and John Edwards in the crapper, who do we want for AG to run down all the Bush lawbreakers? I’m starting to think about Artur Davis.
And Joe Lieberman can suck eggs. His loyalty is to Israel only and he could care less if Americans continue to die for them either. Banding himself around the waist of the republic party shows how deep his loyalty to his needs only is.
I hope he’s arrested at the Democratic Convention this year. If I was there, I would be one yelling, “Goodbye you effing asshole!!!!!”, as he’s being dragged off.
Yeah Glen Greenwald
Hi Jim. I read somewhere months ago (probly here, can’t recall) that Obama has a good and solid relationship with Davis and that it’s a strong possibility that he’ll be included in an Obama cabinet. So I researched him, I didn’t know WHO he was, and he’s pretty solid. I like him, from what I’ve learned. Obama could do a lot worse.
I’m OK with Biden. THAT decision could have been a LOT WORSE as well.
good morning all.
:)
strongly suspect AG nod will go to Eric Holder
although there’s a certain USAA hangin around Chicago, nudge nudge :D
Would it be possible to move his desk in the senate chamber to the back of the room and have it facing the wall.
LMAO! Bah hahahahahahahahahaha! Or maybe near the entrance door so he can greet the people as they come through the door!
Awwww, how cute. A Lieberman Wal-Mart greeter.
Save me some research time. Who will pick their replacements?
yayah!!
aquaphor is excellent stuff!!! can get it at a regular drugshore, i buy the big jar…..i use it in the winter on my feet and elbows, and introduced a diabetic friend to it for his feet-he needs stuff year round….uses it when he runs out a thehomemade salve a friend makes.
discovered aquaphor when i had an allergic reaction to the sun from meds and body swelled and peeled three times, went on for months, feet and hands cracked and split, was miserable, the aquaphor helped the thicker skin soften and peel…saved me. was awful, couldn’t walk hardly.
friend said i got a free ‘chemical peel’ and had new skin…lol….levity to get me through a bad place.
aquaphor is great stuff. really works on feet, smooth on and put on socks, use foot scrubber next bath or shower……
and cbl2–another one is vitamin k cream that i got from my uncle’s chemo doc…works on vericose veins and all kinds of things…expensive.
Good morning, Christy, and have a great trip!!
I saw Obama this week, and when they told everyone to type in the prompt on their cell phones for the VP business, I realized that this promotion was a great way for them to have access to all their supporters via cell phone, you know, the numbers that don’t get polled.
Not sure how they will build the DB from here on, but watch for it again. I am sure it will be used.
Bruce does I Ain’t Got No Home
Morning Christy and Pups.
Have a safe trip, and a great time, Christy.
We could all sit in the corner and “help”. We’d love to. Imagine a bunch of pups acting like Seinfeld’s manager gal, “Now, just don’t freak out.”
Yeah. Lots to do. We’ll be thrilled to have FDL there in the mix. The MSM better bring extra Depe*ds & behave themselves. *g* ;->
707! Consider it done!
I know’d that Billy Bragg covered Woody Guthrie. And some git from NJ might’ve made an attempt at same.
I’m thinking, given that Obama has said all along that he would have some R’s in his administration, that Dick Lugar is a pretty solid bet for SecState.
Mike – in my elementary school, it was putting the perpetrator out in the hall in a chair..nuthin’ to do…just sit in the chair. Everyone knew what THAT meant.
What would happen if he was greeting people at the door and his depends leaked?
have fun christy and–i always make sure to have a few snacks/power bar/fruit/baggie of nuts (pecans)–carb and protein. nothing worse than feeling your blood sugar drop and no food. takes hours to get your ‘juice’ back after that…
perfect! Is liarman going? Nawwww. Yer jokin’, right?!
If he tries to be a greeter, he won’t need teeth whitening strips any more, I’m thinkin….
Rod Blagojevich, D-Chicago crook, will pick Obama’s replacement if he is still in offce.
Don’t know about Delaware. I was told the current governor is a D but term limited and out of office at the end of the year.
Mornin’, Christy, Firepups
Tigers let me sleep in this morning. Niiiiice.
Biden has a son in the military. The only candidate with any real connection to the military today. Looking forward to how he presents himself as VP candidate. He can really chew up the Sunday morning bobbleheads now. This might actually be fun.
Is there anyone in the Rethug camp who has a son/daughter in the military and is anywhere near being on McSFB’s VP list?
What would happen if he was greeting people at the door and his depends leaked?
“Goddammit Joe – Not *again* !!”
It would prove once and for all he’s a republican on the inside. They all leak crap…especially through their mouths!
Well. Maybe McBush will want is own Joe to conteract Obama’s Joe. Joe Lieberman for Republican VP. Wouldn’t that be fun.
thanks selise, i forgot about that…
Follow your bliss
i just put it up on the fridge…along with the other stuff-

“our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure” and it goes on from there.–i’ll type it out and post it, one of my docs gave it to me long time ago.
and photos and cartoons and stuff.
yep, yep, and yep !
vitamin K is expensive (well, by this dfh’s standards) GNC is probably most reasonable
it is the one thing that has ever worked on dark circles under eyes
y’all have no idea how ironic that I of all people am talking about cosmetics – I am so not that gurl
and I like the Biden pick for all reasons stated, plus one I wrote about at my place (click on my name)
it’s a world gone mad :D
Yes it would. I’m sure the people of Connecticut who drove ole Joe’s ass out of the Democratic Party a couple years ago will not let this man steal another thing….especially the White House! If Joe is picked as VP, we need to link to lots of sites where the people of Connecticut are lambasting him for what he really is.
And besides, we have a lot to go on with Joe, Romney, Guiliani, and whoever else McCain will pick. ;-)
and if Obama would name Lugar as his SecState choice, and do it BEFORE the election, *that* would push Indiana into the blue column.
In fact, a good solid look at most, if not all, of his Cabinet, pre-election, is a winning strategy, and could well be a bulwark against his “inexperienced” tag.
Can’t we get Short Ride arrested for being an unregistered agent of a foreign country?
We could deport him to his favourite country where he could sit and read stories to the comatose Sharon. In my fantasy Sharon can hear everything going around him but can do nothing. It’s called hell on earth and he deserves every minute.
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesn’t serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you.
We were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It is not in just some of us; It is in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
Nelson Mandela Inaugural Speech, 1994
(but I came across Marianne Williamson as being the author at a later date, I think he was quoting her.)
Hunter
I think that Joe Biden embodies what Obama means by bringing change and a new way of doing things to Washington. It’s the audacity of the status quo.
we’re not talking cosmetics, we’re talking taking care of the one body you get on this here earth!!!!
not narcissistic to take care of it.
go girl!
pulchritudecompetition alert -men’s semi final water polo right now on USA :DMcCain himself. His oldest son with Cindy is at the Naval Academy and his younger son is a Marine (enlisted out of high school) and has already served at least one tour in Irak.
And McCain
and romney, oh, wait……
Thanks for that Dragon.
And a Good Mornin’ to you!
You and FL doing tolerably o.k. after Fay bumped her way up the coast?
Gaw whut a stoopid storm.
Biden has some deep ties to the corporate world (as do they all) but I don’t remember which segment supports him most. Is there a possibility we’ll gain a progressive Senator from Deleware?
Hi Siri, I agree that Biden is much better than some of the folks who were under consideration, especially Bayh and Chet Edwards.
It looks like I survived Fay with only a little chainsaw work ahead of me for the next few days (I know, I know, there’s no such thing as a minor chainsaw accident!). The sad thing is I also had a massive armyworm outbreak in one of the pastures I replanted this spring. Can’t get someone out to even give an estimate on control until Monday.
I was thinking only of the VP possibilities.
what the heck is ‘armyworm’?
Thanks to you also, siri. You guys are comin’ outta the woodwork, and I don’t feel so alone.
I think Biden will do fine, with a minder. He’s got one. Methinks plenty be settled tw’ him and Obama already or he wouldn’t have gotten the nod.
and if Obama would name Lugar as his SecState choice, and do it BEFORE the election
it would be Swoonapalooza in The Village !
We got a lot of wind and a few showers. Nothing out of the ordinary for a summer. I’m hoping a lot of the rain that the state got went into the aquafers. Been short of water for years and the developers just kept building. Assholes.
new moniker for wingless repugnut?
If I’m not mistaken, it’s lawyers who have given mainly to Biden over the years.
Gotta watch what I say here with a community fulla lawyers.
Good.
Agreed.
You bet. Gotta do something about those nits.
Heh.
Good Morning Everyone
Somehow I’m not sure that picking Biden is going to rally the southwest & Mt West….. The part that gets me is to take TWO Democratic Senators from the Senate…. Do they think they grow on trees….. If they get elected then will both seats get appointed another Democrat?
a certain basset companion would love that
JonJon Redux !
LOL Me too. ;-)
OMG: McClatchy said the L-word.
As Democrats gather, liberal positions gaining in popularity
Not nasty enough.

That would be these bad guys.
it would be Swoonapalooza in The Village !
not that there’s anything wrong with that . *g*
wrt Lugar, I think that that choice is a lock. There was some reporting I heard earlier this morning that Lugar had advised Obama that Biden would be a good choice.
Lugar is already advising Obama.
ferchrissakes, get it out there
just as soon as I call my British bookieNOW!!Damn, I thought you meant “Left.”

Gay Australian Beauty Matthew Mitchum wins the Gold!!!!
If I’m not mistaken, it’s lawyers who have given mainly to Biden over the years.
goddamned lawyers.
lol.
This is a family oriented blog. Have to come up with a double super secret code.
the uneasy older white male demo -
more than foreign policy or any of the other CW being spewed this morning, was the real reason he picked him
Bayh, Kaine, Warner …would have taken too much time introducing them to electorate
sigh, same rationale behind not picking Sibelius
Easy for you to say.
When my son went to survival school he was taught that if they are more than inch you have to cook them before you eat them
With a nice Chianti.
Yeah, one at a time, they’re cute. But they wiped out an acre of millet that was belly-high on my horses and I think they took out the expensive bahia that was underneath it (there’s a small chance the roots of the bahia pasture grass were established enough it will grow back, but I doubt it) that I planted at the same time. Many hours of work and several hundred dollars down the tubes in 48 hours while I was out of town. The other two pastures are probably okay, but they may have to be sprayed, too, meaning I’ll be out a lot more money for hay while I keep the horses off until the re-entry time expires.

heaven help any prowling wingnuts trying to make sense of this thread. Haw!
Wow. Voracious little bastards, aren’t they.
that’s not fair. no pic????!
weird, never heard of them, but i’m in ohio..maybe they’re here, dunno.
have you contacted your county extension agent or gone in on their website?

Morning gang — mostly done with packing and trying to sit here for a minute and sip my coffee. Anyone else hate packing? Trying to squeeze a week’s worth of business attire into a single suitcase (which I now have to pay $15 extra to check at the counter) is ticking me off. As I told Mr. ReddHedd when he said “just pack a coupla pairs of khakis and a couple of shirts and re-wear them.” — well, honey, that does not work when you are a girl.
I’m just bummed because I can’t squeeze in my cute peep-toe linen and brown buckled pumps to wear with my brown dress. *sob* (I’m really half kidding about this, the heels are a bit too high to be comfy for a long stroll, and it’s pure vanity to think I’d wear them more than a coupla hours before switching back to something more comfy, but they are really cute shoes. Mr. ReddHedd makes fun of me for them…)
Once you’ve sprayed, how do you keep them from coming back?
yeowza !!
Hey Christy! You go grrrrl!
Dangle those little heels from one finger as you flirt yer way thru security.
Alls they’ll see is that gorgeous red hair.
Have FUN!
forgot to say sorry, hate to hear that, in the middle of my finding resources frenzy..
Christy, you’re gonna be the best dressed liberal at the Democratic Convention whether you re-wear your clothes or not!
Can one of us borrow you peep-toed linen & brown buckled pumps while you’re gone? LOL!
Don’t forget that Biden was nail spitting mad when they wouldn’t let him into Dover Air Force Base to witness and receive the bodies of soldiers killed in Iraq.
omg. sorry. reeeely sorry. heh.
Wow. Voracious little bastards, aren’t they.
You still raggin’ on lawyers?
Can you FedEx the shoes to your hotel? I feel your pain about about not bringing them.
Yep, my extension agent already clued me into what should be sprayed and what the re-entry time is. We have to wait for the heavy rains to pass or the treatment won’t work. I’ve got to be careful, one of the horses is in foal to deliver in mid-January (an inauguration baby!). And yes, those guys do range up to Ohio. I used to work in biological pest control; did some work on a virus that could work here, but it’s not available commercially. There is a bacterial agent that would have worked if I had been home while the armyworms were younger. With the developmental stage they’re at now it’s too late. I hate to spray, but I have to protect my other pastures and the neighbors’ pastures now, too.
I got a feeling those policies are gonna go bye bye toot sweet after the inauguration.
LOL.
Remember to buy a bottle of water at one of the news stores before boarding because now some airlines are charging for any fluids including water….. you can bring a reusable water bottle and fill it up after security but some airports do not have drinking fountains and some places (Phoenix & LA) you wouldn’t drink their water anyway…
Still want someone to tell me that being a prisoner trapped on a plane for 2-5 hrs and only access to food & fluids is by purchase (what if I have no cash?) is not a human rights violation….. Actual prisoners have more rights….
But, but, but I was hoping the AG might be Janet Napolitano! Would be great if McBush didn’t even win his home state!
OT: re Vanity. To the one above about vitamin K. What is it doing for one’s skin other than dark circles? Very curious.
Hey u other horsey types. I hope at least one of these works.
Great stuff!

Time to go back to train travel. Always had more fun on a train anyhow.
Morning, Christy. I’m back in New Orleans and competing for computer time with my husband until we put the last coat of finish on the newly sanded office floor and can start setting up my office.
I have a photo shoot today for a new non-profit at a health fair over on Esplanade and I’m looking forward to it. I WISH I was going to the convention, but I look forward to hearing about it from you. At least we’ll be getting real news.
wow, that’s a tough one..sounds like you have the info you need to make the sound/necessary choices.
don’t beat yourself up about the timing. can’t be more than one place at a time.
even the timing of getting hay in can be tricky. what you’re doing is more complicated than that even….
good luck.
(the pic looked familiar, but don’t know if it’s because i’ve seen a pic or because i’ve seen one….looks like one we have here, but the colors are more vivid in the pic.)
We can’t loose Gov Janet right now….. we would be suck with Jan Brewer and that really sucks…… That woman can’t even do her own job as Secretary of State …wingnut incompetent….
Ask the voters of District 20 about the election recount for the Republican primary (my district) which magically had 434 votes show up overnight….. and the SOS had NO idea what AZ laws were about recounts and how they are done…. Those ballots were seized by the FBI and poof into the black hole of who knows what….
hey lindy–good luck on the shoot.
every trip, we find corners to stuff in a few granola bars.
the ultimate indignity: they can’t even do proper maintenance, and they have the gall to charge us for water. phoo.
Wish I could travel any other way but between March and today I have flown 35K and my boyfriend Elmore flew over 100K on one airlines system and over 40K on another. For both of us it is our commute to work….. He does Monday Night Football & the NBA… just will not work…
The area with the worst outbreak may require a second spraying; the eggs are less susceptible and there are clearly a lot of the moths in the area to lay more eggs later. For the rest, I hope to rely on the variety of millet to be moderately resistant. I’m beginning to think that I got one bag of seed that was a different, more susceptible variety when I planted and it went into the pasture that got wiped out. Sorry to hijack the thread, but for those who might be interested, I did an Open Salon post a few weeks ago with before and after pictures from one of the pastures being re-seeded. That one is still okay for now.
Four team jumping horses suspended for doping
Thanks, dmac.
New post up…
With you there, CHS — I had to drag a pair of shoes just for my daughter’s wedding on the trip and really resented having to spare the space in the luggage for something I’d only get to wear for two hours. For the three weeks, I ended up with one set of Columbia walking sandles, my sneakers and some Aravon sandles that I can put my prosthetics into. Thank goodness no one wanted to take us out for a fancy dinner. My trick for a week’s worth(trade shows) is one suit that goes with one dress, an extra pair or pants and an extra skirt and tops that go with everything. Then I switch everything around. Enough permutations and combinations there to work out.
“This is bullshit. This is malarkey. This is outrageous. Outrageous for the president of the United States to go to a foreign country, sit in the Knesset…and make this kind of ridiculous statement…He’s the guy who’s weakened us. He’s the guy that’s increased the number of terrorists in the world. His policies have produced this vulnerability the United States has. His intelligence community pointed that out not me. The NIE has pointed that out and what are you talking about, is he going to fire Condi Rice? Condi Rice has talked about the need to sit down. So his first two appeasers are Rice and Gates. I hope he comes home and does something.”
~ US Sen. Joe Biden said in May 2008 in response to George Bush’s oversea comment saying Barack Obama is appeasing America’s enemies
Met the Scottish version when we were hiking in Scotland – they call them midges and they are…the…worst.
Mornin’ Rev,
went through a stressful period causing some dark circles that wouldn’t go away – 3 days of Vitamin K did the trick
dmac mentioned having some luck with vitamin k and varicose veins
if you have a formulary pharmacy nearby – they give you the good stuff, but resonably priced small jar at GNC :D
Personally just fine with Biden as VP choice. Although there is some chance that he will say something stupid, there’s a much better chance he’ll say something really smart and witty. He’ll should be able to keep it interesting.
And speaking of “chances”, the WaPo/ABC had a quickie poll saying that 75% of the people (916 polled) said that this VP choice would not affect their decision, 13% said more favorable to voting for Obama, 10% less favorable, with 3% undecided.
Besides the slight round-off error (101%), the more serious problem with such a quickie poll is that one is trying to measure a small effect. If a net of just 3% of the voters change their minds from McCain to Obama, that’s a 6% margin for Obama. In order to poll accurately for a 3% change, one would have to poll 10,000 voters, which no one does because it’s too expensive. A more accurate WaPo/ABC story would be that “we are unable to afford a large enough sample to measure the effect precisely enough, but instead we will give you this quickie result which is all but meaningless.”
Lotta stress there. Hope you guys are taking care of yourselves in that respect.
Oh, yeah. Looks like the Dems finally have a VP nominee who isn’t about to take the GOP’s bullshit on ’security’.
Woot!!
yeah. i noticed. thanks.
capsaicin (sp?), not steroids at least, sigh.
i assume it’s a counter-irritant sorta thing, similar/same as what’s in hot peppers. = wild guess. correct me at will ;->
bwaaahaaa – just got back from a quick tour around the rightie sites -
K-Lo reminded us all of how mean and very uncivil Biden was to Clarence Thomas:
Clarence his own self-
I’m likin’ it more by the minute :D
The Sunday morning morons are not gonna like Biden as VP. He’ll rip ‘em a new one every time he appears on their set.
tee hee. what’s not to luv?!
ummm, not ‘my’ varicose veins, but didn’t specify…i tried it on a little one i had, it worked, but i’m not that picky about that stuff-i was just seeing if it worked, it did work for a friend who is picky about that stuff.
it works on soft tissue issues.
i was talking about vitamin k ‘creme’……just to be sure that’s clear…
and, you can’t smear it all over, can only use on a certain percentage of your body at a time, is powerful stuff.
Bah hahahahahaha! A bean bag to the head! Biden the Bulldog, Biden the Bean Bag Hurler. I like it. ;-)
The fec thing isn’t red meat anyway. Joe Six-Pack doesn’t relate to that. A man who doesn’t know–or doesn’t want to admit to–how many houses he’s kept in…now that’s red meat.
I doubt that Woody Guthrie will be covered at the perfunctory convention, next week. On can only hope Fleetwood Mac doesn’t get another turn there.
Biden as VP also answers my question of yesterday as to who was gonna start off the McSFB/Rethug bashing at the convention. Best armour up yer asses, Rethugs, cuz Biden’s gonna break one off in each and every one of ya.
Are ya lurkin’ out there, reichwingnuts? I wanna hear ya whine.
it’s from peppers…..usually topical, draws blood to area…
for muscle pain.
in people, can be topical or just eat things with capsaicin in them…but one issue is sometimes people with pain issues also have nightshade vegetable sensitivities, so……..
I can’t wait for Biden to start cracking neocons in half on his leg and then saying, “Next!!!”.
admittedly, it’s not getting the press…
but, contradicts one of his main platforms up until last fall–campaign finance reform, so it oughtta be red meat.
Obama = good cop
Biden = bad cop
revbev and cbl2–forgot to add
vitamin k also helps wounds heal, that’s what it was originally for…..chemo sores……rashes……and why she gave some to me….for the cracks from the skin splitting from the body peel…really hard to heal. it accelerated it.
I will post this in the next few threads. Here is a selection of Biden’s votes in the Senate during the Bush years. Although your mileage may vary, I rate them with + being good, – bad, and +/- not sure. Keep in mind that many votes are structured to be cosmetic so it is problematic to assess his positive votes, especially in the absence of any leadership shown on them.
+/- Voted for the AUMF against those responsible for the recent attacks launched against the United States (September 14, 2001)
- Voted for the Patriot Act (October 25, 2001)
- Voted for the AUMF against Iraq (October 11, 2002)
- Voted for Condoleezza Rice as Secretary of State (January 26, 2005)
+ Voted against Alberto Gonzales as Attorney General (February 3, 2005)
- Voted for the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act (March 10, 2005)
+ Voted against Roberts nomination as Chief Justice (September 29, 2005)
- Voted for the USA PATRIOT Improvement and Reauthorization Act (March 2, 2006)
+ Voted against the Military Commissions Act (September 28, 2006)
+ Voted against cloture on the Alito nomination (January 30, 2006)
+ Voted against the Alito nomination (January 31, 2006)
+ Voted against the Protect America Act (August 3, 2007)
+/- Absent for vote on Mukasey nomination as Attorney General (November 8, 2007)
+ Voted against the FISA Amendments Act (February 12, 2008)
Looks like he smartened up at the beginning of 2006.
lol Christy.
the Mr.s really DO put up with quite a bit from us, don’t they.
lol
i’m so sorry to hear that, and sorry to be late in responding, i’m working here today, so get sidetracked.
but how awful about the worm thing. ICK.
thank God you weren’t devastated by the storm Jim.
Thanks for catching me up to speed on that. I should know. Shame on me. Still not as bad as steroids. Not even close. I guessed it was probably topical, since it’s sold for people also.
Still… if it’s banned… Someone did something really dumb. As far as I know, no USA horses were implicated. But I think one or 2 were medal winners. I assume in the jumping/cross-country ranks. Those cross-country courses can be rough, tho this Olympics looked pretty reasonable.
Watching the dressage takes me back. Still miss my gal. We trained eachother, essentially, & ended up just lovin’ it – BOTH of us – and, ahem, beating a goodly number of the folks who took the fancy lessons. Takes a smart and athletic horsie, heh. She was the smartest I ever met, and the sweetest. Just a little sprite of an Arab, horse size as long as she had her shoes on, heh.
ya know? I’ll bet ya both could play either. This might just be fun once in awhile, even tho still agonizingly serious. I DO think we’ve got the talent and capability to shove this poor country back into the “respected” column.
Hugh. Thanks much. Interesting trend.
Lessee, the VP debate is in early Oct. Biden/Short Ride. I can’t fu*kin’ wait.
Mermaid Avenue wasn’t exactly a collection of Guthrie cover tunes. These were song lyrics that Woody had written but never recorded.
thanks for giving the 9/14/01 AUMF a +/- (i rate it a “-” but recognize not every progressive sees it that way)
an addition for consideration:
for the iraq AUMF – biden even voted against the levin amendment (required another resolution by the UN security council before an invasion), which was at the time seen as something of a middle ground.
