EPUed below: tbsa, I think Obama did well to wait to get Biden on board to go after McCain. He is, god willing, going to be just the guy to take McCain to the woodshed…..while smiling cheerfully for the rest of us.
Evening Suz boy did you get that Judge wet with that cannon ball… I didn’t know it is a recognized dive at the Olympics:>)
thanks for opening the digg nahant
C-Span replaying Obama’s ‘04 convention speech.
You know, the one Hillary is so admiring of…
diving was over at the olympics.. that directed splash to ct was pure love
Sorry, ThatGuy. Yes, Vote Obama…….if we don’t get our country back this time, I think it will be too late to even talk about.
Arrr, what’s on yo’r mind tonight matey?
Watching the Olympic mountain-biking race, where a Russian rider just ran into a tree.
Wondering why our prez isn’t out there *representin’*….
That Disney Elephant video could inspire nightmares.
EPUed from previous thread.
And, wow, aren’t our runner girls just beautiful! Athletic and gorgeous…..go, girls!
just like their GOP counterparts, hackworth… (shrudder)
So sorry to hear, ThatGuy…
I agree, I replied downstairs.
Arr!

(((that guy)))
Dam I know how that feels… I used to work IT and the whole IT support gig has been off shored… so not only did I lose my job but any hope of finding a new went there also:>(
Yes, now I’m thinking about that cherubic red-cheeked Ric Keller of Orlando. Nightmare material for sure.
I’d like to say that I’m really proud of the U.S. men’s basketball team this year.
For once, they’re not acting like prima-donnas, putting in appearances and cheering for the athletes in other sports, have a good attitude.
Quite a pleasant change.
Go Biden/Obama Offshored Americans jobs. Tried to pay on line and Customer serivce was in India. Cheap labor no bennies. Could not do the job.
Vote Obama/Biden We have to do what it takes to elect them!
DR Kirk James Murphy I just wanted to thank you again for your post earlier… A subject that needs to be hammered on the rethugs again and again… They have destroyed any over site from the regulatory agencies in this country… All the agencies need to be purged and have scientist who will look at the studies put in place so we regulate from scientific view points and not a FOR PROFIT stand point!! Dan we just have to get rid of these corporatist from OUR government!
(((ThatGuy)))
Hang in there.
McSame/Bush…jo mama dude
BIden/Obama

With FDL letters of marque, we could all work on the high seas.
Hey you deserve the credit for well put together post on subjects that DO effect everyone! Our environment and the food and drugs we consume! Kuddos!!
Ahhhh feel good music for your Saturday! With a little shout out to Diane Feinstein in the vid too!
Yea nad the Bush administraion he supported.
“We must, we must, we must develop our trust” (just a little rhythm for ladies of a certain age.) And, ditto re thanks to Dr. Kirk for bringing science into the mix again and again……we so need to be encouraged.
Kirk check my comments after you left.
“the bigger the better the tighter…”
thanks dwr1 –
but the big thanks do to Suz for setting sail tonight..
and Jane and the Ladies of the Lake for creating the vessel…
Oh, and if McPOW wins, this one becomes my theme song.
“This song is dedicated to the Dragon lady with no heart.” DIFI wow
arrr, there be a storm a’brewing off the coast. hope that’s the cause of my wifi being all a’wonky tonight and not because of some prissy pedant over at the enn ese aaa who refuses to fly his colors like a man.
Cool. Those guys are still around? Besides his Diane “butt-licker” rant, that was a pretty good front-kick he nailed somebody in the audience with there at the very end…
I was hoping they would not have found you yet.
Alas…
As you can see, Jello Biafra wasn’t her biggest fan.
They broke up a long time ago, though there was some reunion tour thing going on, without Jello though, lots of bad blood there.
mrbrat thanks you for the Obama/Biden cspan linky – he was busy at work all day and hoping he’d catch a replay.
Newton and Suze – I’m so scared. At my age…I’m afraiid I’ll never work anything but minimum wage again. I’ve been thinking bad thoughts…
For more fun with Jello, his 2000 presidential platform, when he was a contender for the Green Party nomination.
Does any one know if Neuro checked in yet??
Thatguy what is your profession??
We’re all scared.
New days are for opportunities. Stay clear-headed.
Looks like you’ll have to go underground and move your post around electronically to new points of origin. Send it to pups around.
Now that IS weird!! I don’t think there is anything wrong with asking such a ???????
Front end web geek.
Fluke. No sweat – sometimes, for no reason, something is disallowed.
Care to tell me what sort of “bad thoughts”?
I can tell you harrowing personal stories of resilience and survival. Don’t let the bastards write you off.
Get a couple of kitties; their love and empathy will keep you going. One cannot do anything untoward when the kitties depend on one.
I so wish that I could give you an efficacious encouraging word. I have been through the mill in my long life; I have a vocation for melancholia. My academic career was never threatened: tenure. But I am no stranger to extreme losses, personal and otherwise. I am still here and I make damn good lemonade, too! So can you.
Keerist!
I had to have a double shot of the good stuff.
I CAME HERE AND STARTED SEEING PINK ELEPHANTS!!!
You should be able to find something. Front end web stuff is still in demand out there.. Try advertising on Craigs list and moonlight. There are lots of small business that just need a small amount of work done.. It helped me until the state started doing stings for computer repairs… which I do… now I just get work from repeats and word of mouth… Good luck!!
Cleanth, I have a partner and FOUR kitties. But I’m so scared and depressed. I feel utterly hopeless today. I know I can’t do that bad thing…but I sure wonder how long it’ll be before our country looks like 1931 all over again, with three-fucking-times the people.
tg, are there any jobs up in the silicon forest, portland/seattle?
I have a partner who’s still employed. I just hate feeling so fucking worthless.
ahoy busted. spotted them lily livered bilge rats, didja now.
Otay:>) good reason… dam computers … they do do what they are told to do… but crap in crap out…. Thanks Lurk how goes it tonight??
happened to me too on my #18. Nothing offensive there, either.
Must be a bit of a gremlin tonight. de nada.
dood, you can’t let the bastards get ya down. look at me, starting all over at 53 – in a state where i can afford to forking live. there are options open to ya, ya just gotta open your eyes to them.
Awesome platform!!!
gremlins be about for sure – i’ve had to reconnect to the wifi network 3 times in the past couple hours. thers left his thread early because he was having connection issues. i don’t wanna trade my pirate hat for one of tin foil but…
nahant, iirc, neuro checked in late last night, said he was ‘there’.
Thanks for the update Suz… Glad he got there safely… Now he has to some live blogging from the big event!!
Unsurprisingly, he didn’t get the Green party’s nomination.
Ayyyyy
;>)
When does the D Convention start – Sunday or Monday?
I noticed that The Daily Show was all repeats last week – wonder if those maniacs are headed to Denver too?
Kirk I meant to tell you I passed all my “tests” and will be listed this week… but I may not have to use it… should know on Friday.
amazing how much of that I agree with…
One of my absolute favorites from childhood, Suzanne, thank you so very much!
ThatGuy:
I SO understand. Been there. Melancholia has been my lifelong stalking horse. But there always is something worthwhile, IMO. I have also found that when one has survived a few of these despairing episodes, one sees that no matter what (just about), one has come through, and so the black hound of despair seems ever less formidible. Not that it doesn’t hurt, not that it is not that “sickness unto death”. Rather, one wins through, and sees that this has been the case.
Having lived this long, I do not think that I will ever succumb to the extent that I would take my own life. But, who knows?
William Butler Yeats put these words into the mouth of Sophocles:
I passionately believe this. But I have been born, I do live. And so my programme is other, given the circumstances.
Do you understand what I am trying to say?
I am deply concerned for you and your present plight. Please keep in touch.
~Cleanth
whew
Nahant, I’m glad all that “studying” paid off, but here’s hoping you never need to use the results!
Was there any mention on Network TV of Cindy McCain’s half sisters who despite being taken care of well when their dad was alive suddenly got cut out of the will with no explanation by *cough* only child Cindy?
Normally the MSM loves this type of thing. Was their any mention on “the Soup”
Yeah, some of it went a little far, but there was a lot that made quite a bit of sense.
And speaking of mens platform diving, hurray for….
(spoiler alert)
((ThatGuy))
Please tell me what is a front end web geek?
I am into calcium pumps, Adenosine Tri Phosphate, Creb cycle, lactic acid removal, recruiting specialized muscle cells for aerobic or anerobic work outs. Nutrition, exercise and recovery with deep sleep and total stretching like what Jane posted the swimmers are breaking records with.
Me to but will if I have to… It will be nice to finally get a definitive answer and not all this back and forth crap…it has been hard on the family members..
Of courese you did your healthy as a young horse!
(spoiler alert)
Reverse-spoiler alert for me. (pointing me to a competition I’ve already missed). heh.
Must be all those home grown organic veggies!
(((Nahant))) (((Nahant’s family)))
The NBC broadcast is so confusing, I’m reluctant to mention any results in-thread. I was pretty sure it happened last nite, but I didn’t want to ruin it for anyone, even our friends watching in Hawaii, who I guess see events long after we do on the west coast.
Thanks Kirk this is family here!!
The NSA has won, at least for the moment.
Suzanne is plum out of snacks, and the “White Van Guys” are jonesing.
Suzanne will be back as soon as she is able.
Glad for the so-far good report, Nahant. Been thinking of you.
~c
so wish you were not feeling worthless: you are worthwhile. Our work can feel like who we are — but it isn’t.
Asking the goddess to look out for you and open doors for you. I also hope your partner and other support folks in your life are available to hear how you are feeling: being alone with “bad thoughts” is such an isolated place.
(((ThatGuy)))
Eleanor Roosevelt’s thoughts on fear and courage often help me. Toward the bottom of the page..
Wow Beeg Brather is really watching You. Time for a FISA smack down.
I think I owe the Lake twenty for a bet did the MSM Network TV cover the Cindy McCain half sister story like they would cover a normal celebrity story?
With full hour long specials from on all the cable news networks, the View and 20 minutes worth of talk on Network news?
I have not read much on the net, I don’t have TV so I need confirmation.
Thanks cleanth how are you doing this evening??
Lurk you tell them NSA boys they better lighten up on OUR girl and let her do her work and move their dam truck down the road!
Can’t help…
Olympics and C-Span only this weekend.
But have fun finding out!
Tell her not to bother with any crab meat, I paid 27 dollars a pound for picked and cooked Dungeness crab meat at the beach yesterday.
YIKES!!!
Didn’t I make the bet with you?
*hiding*
As I said, I’m even less informed than you.
Often depression is a lack of some vitamins minerals or other neural transmitters. Getting counseling or a blood work up on the balance of nuetrients or lack can get you out. I have had deppression all my life. You need to learn the tools to deal with it. Some meds, some supplements. it is not the job loss although that will make it intense as any stress will.
When you think Suicide call the suicide hotline. Most communities have one. Avoid a really serious tradgedy. Then deal with your job search in a rational way. Ask Dr, Kirk I am sure he knows accepted protocol when you have these “thought”. Be smart do it now.
Actually, the New York Times included this new, and rather gruesome, detail today:
At her father’s funeral, Cindy McCain told of his gentle reaction when she wrecked the car he had bought her after she graduated from the University of Southern California, according to people who were there. She did not mention, as a former employee recalled, that it was a Porsche and that he replaced it with a Mercedes-Benz. When the young Cindy Hensley began teaching high school and was criticized for driving a fancy car, the ex-employee said, her father bought her a Volkswagen to drive to school.
Mr. Hensley also quietly subsidized his first daughter, Mrs. Portalski, and her family. He paid for her children’s schooling, gave them credit cards and wrote company checks of $40,000 a year to Mrs. Portalski and her husband, the couple said in an interview.
But in his will, Mr. Hensley left Mrs. Portalski just $10,000 and her offspring nothing. “It’s so disappointing, just being pushed aside,” she said. Mrs. Portalski said Mrs. McCain added insult to that injury by referring to herself, in her eulogy for her father, as his only child — while her half-sister sat in a front pew.
(my bold)
Deep in a four-webpage story, but still…
Better yet film their van amd post on utube with link and diggs!
If Paris Hilton had a surprise half-sister, you’d be hearing about it. Cindy (Only Child) McCain, not so much. This is The Enquirer’s chance to go mainstream. You gotta laugh.
I’m getting a “yuck-factor” reaction to all of these people, not just dear old Dad.
In Oregon? Holy shit! Has the dead zone off the coast there affected the catch?
Thanks for asking, Nahant.
Rough start to the day, good finish. Very good success at the antiquarian book dealers today; that is a favourite interest of mine. The weather here is gorgeous and I plan to get in a few hours of walking today (Sunday).
I am pretty concerned for ThatGuy and I hope that he will keep in touch with his FDL friends, so far as he can/wants to.
I dunno, it went up ten bucks a pound since last year.
I just went to CNN’s site did the Google search CNN Cindy McCain’s half sisters and I got results…For an NPR, Story, indecision 2008, a few blogs and the Huffpost.
The Networks ARE in the Tank for John McCain I had hoped that Gossip like this would be to big to pass up just think of the ratings.
But I WAS WRONG! I WAS TO OPTIMISTIC AND TRUSTING its bad out there when Pessimists are disappointed about the bad side of human nature.
http://search.cnn.com/search.j…..intl=false
NetWork TV hacks owe me $20, Liberal Media yeah right anyone else famous this story would be all over the place.
Still giving to the Lake isn’t to bad I was smart enough to make that part of the bet.:)
Off to donate.
I can understand referring to herself as “her parents’ only child” or “being raised as an only child.” Then, through the years, society reporters who come for tea-and-an-interview ask, “So, you are an only child?” and it becomes easier to say, simply, “Yes.”
But standing up in front of her own father’s other daughter, who is in the front pew because she is the only other offspring of the man she is eulogizing, and calling herself “an only child?” That some sick shit, man.
I’m always happy to hear from pups: kirkmurphy gmail com

Thatguy or others — please don’t hesitate to contact me: can’ treat directly (nor should I for legal/ethical reasons) but can supply info and identify resources and/or local sources of care/support.
I don’t know why, but I love it when ‘they’ blow shit up.
Hey. Take care, ok? Been there.
(((((ThatGuy)))))
He may have trusted Cindy to “do what is right.” An error many loving parents make. IIRC, the credit cards were cancelled the day he died.
Thanks Ted but
Isn’t really the way the MSM would cover a story like this if it were a nonGOP politician Bill would have been 24/7 nonstop news and would they would have interrupted the Olympics with moving text at the bottom of the screen updates.
Thanks Kirk very interesting article. But crab at $27 a pound for picked is more expensive than lobster on the coast of Maine where live/steamed lobster are going for around six to seven dollars a pound at the Lobsta shacks one of the best food values around back there!! Go figure
I am afraid Suzanne has bee pincered by a giant crab that mistook her for Christy Whitman or another EPA official that has left our coastal waters polluted.
Gee I hope taht she gets away from the crabs OK. Should we call the Coast Guard to see if any late nite bloggers are in trouble? Vote Obama/Biden
Ya want some music sung by my sweetie??
Say ‘yes’ Kirk
oops – was off geeking.
YES!
Dr. Kirk and everybody, thanks. Your support makes me feel better. During the dot-bust I was out of work for hte better part of three years. In 2002, I made a grand total of $1200, at the age of 48. But J and the kitties managed to stick with me. J’s not the type to put her arm around me and comfort, but through all the travails, she’s stuck with me.
I’ll be ok eventually, but there are times when I’m so tired, so weary, that if the Reaper wanted to take me I wouldn’t fight back. I get so weary.
And I’m no longer optimistic about Obama’s chances. I don’t know who’d have been better, but I thnk Biden isn’t a good choice.
ThatGuy- FWIW – our small nonprofit art museum was desperate for skilled front in tech help. We put up posters around town for a qualified volunteer. A local unemployed tech guy saw the poster and kindly donated his time & skills. One of our members was so impressed he introduced him to the small but active Chamber of Commerce leadership, resulting in enough free lance work to sustain him until he found full time employment with benefits…. Last I heard he was supplementing his income coaching faculty and students at a tony private prep school.
Is that what they call it now?
but but they didn’t go up they went down /s Another nuke bit the dust by the looks of those cooling towers… ya!!
Hey Newt did you hear last week pur local nuke plnat, Diablo Canyon, blew the main electrical transformer. A 500 foot high fireball blew out the windows in the adjacent 5 story building.
One of the security workers there told me if it had happened during the day 100 people would have died.I went unreported to the community for 4 days!
Another one? Didn’t they have the same thing happen in April or May?
Is the Enquirer covering this story or have THEY gotten to them to?
Yep…
Here it is.
I’m glad I moved back to the Bay Area.
On the subject of antiquarian books, this speaks to the abebooks issues you raised.
Also abe’s wiki entry.
Time will tell. Once the tabloids get tired of running down John Edwards (alleged) baby and that baby-mama gets all the money she can from selling pix and her story, maybe there will be an investigative reporter available to chat up Kathleen Hensley P. … what tawdry times we live in….dictated to by hypocrites.
Will send it out later as I am on Julie’s computer and the music is on my laptop… waiting for my daughter and her husband to come pick up the grand kids… they went to a wedding in Woodside.
The music files are a bit big so will send them in several emails.
Nah, I hear Cindy throws a Helluva cocktail party. Never happen.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is not regulating under Bush then. Skipping regular repairs on a normal plant is one thing but on a Nuclear Plant everything should be perfect.
Well, in a free market fully capitalistic world I can only hope that The Enquirer, Star…whoever… would rather sell tabloids than eat cocktail weanies!
Many of the plants have reached lifecycle even with retrofits. The Nation has a great article on nukes.
The planet is off its axis again. The Inquirer tells the straight news, and the New York Times hires Kristol to opine…
Best.Youtube.Ever.
I look forward to hearing them! I’m behind dial-up curtain, so mo hurry – I prolly won’t be able to download before hitting net cafe manana.
Now off to hit pillow.
Take care, pups!

nite kirk
And my neo-can twin brother keeps telling me how liberal the NYTs is. Crazy-making! But, interestingly, my brother and my staunchly Republican 90 year old father both would have preferred to have HRC as the candidate. They loathe McCain and don’t know what to make of Barack Obama. Their sense: with Hillary, at least you get the devil you know.
Good nite Kirk. You did a lot of nice posting job and taking up slack while the Convention bound pups are on the road. Hope you and your goddess are well.
Can you see through (and I mean this respectfully) the fog of their Gooperdom, if they prefer Hillary as a President, or do they think she’s beatable as a nominee?
ThatGuy:
Yes, the weariness.
Night Kirk!
Sunny:
Thanks for this! I am behind the curve on this acquisition. Last I knew it was some Canadians who had ABE,
I do some used. old, and rare custom with Amazon, but have had difficulties with some of their vendors, and the extreme difficulty getting customer service from Amazon. Same difficulties as with Ebay, who are notorious for this.
I think they just feel that she would have been understandable….and corporate. And I do recall that her health care plan lo those many years ago did seem to involve the insurance companies. I could be wrong on that, but that’s kind of how I recall it. And, no, of course they wouldn’t have wished for Hillary as the candidate, except that it came down to candidates that they really, really do not like. And, truth, I was raised Republican….as soon as I became an adult, and as soon as the DixieCrats took over, it was not at all hard for me to move to the left…..I fairly ran! Growing up in Houston during the civil rights era didn’t help……I found “Christians” to be beyond my ken. But, I can tell you this, I’m waaay more fiscally conservative than Bush and his cabal!
I think you’re right about HillaryCare, though I’m not betting a red cent on it.
And as to their desire for Hillary – she may have bent on corporate stuff, but women’s reproductive independence would have been the one thing we could have counted on her to protect. The Goopers would rue the day.
My parents were stationed in Houston in the late 50’s – the stories they tell…
I read the FDL news story about Bolivia and I thought hmm the oil companies are revolting down there I bet Bush set this up.
Then I remembered that I know how to win wars McCain supported the Venezuela cop against Hugo Chávez.
Senator John McCain presents himself as a what-you-see is what-you-get presidential candidate: clean, pragmatic, following his convictions even when not politically expedient. He considers himself to be someone who would make an excellent foreign policy president.
But this image sits in contrast with the International Republican Institute (IRI), for which McCain has served as board chairman since 1993. Under the cover of spreading democracy and a free market economic system, the IRI installs U.S.-friendly governments and undermines those that are not by supporting coups and ousters.
Formed in 1983, the IRI is one of several umbrella organizations under the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), created by the Reagan administration in 1983. The NED was formed at a time when CIA covert action was coming under increasing scrutiny, prompting its critics to see it as a surrogate for covert action.
Then it hit me did the IRI support groups that were linked to death squads killed Nuns in South America?
Enquiring minds wonder why the MSM has not asked the IRI current chairman John McCain.
Sorry my bold at 149.
Sorry link for 149
http://www.nowpublic.com/world…..-institute
For your amusement, my family moved from California to Houston in 1956……mind blowing! I lived there for six years….junior high and high school. We were Catholics, so we were considered not-quite-right. First time I’d experienced any kind of prejudice against me. People thought we were from England because we talked funny. The black students in our district were bused out to the school for ‘coloreds’. There were water fountains marked “white” and “colored.” We were kids…..we thought you’d get colored water out of the special fountain. It was an adjustment….and I never made it. One of Georgie Bush’s cabinet members in the first term was our next door neighbor and my brother’s best friend at the time. But otherwise no connections. I graduated from high school and have never been back.
Just another at the oil office of Darth Cheney… lets hope this gets him indited for this crime!
Cheney’s link to corrupt senator Stevens exposed
McCain’s candidacy is getting more translucent all the time. Every one of his advisers, from Gramm to Scheunemann to Black, are major sleazoids. I’m expecting to find a Auschwitz prison guard on his staff any day now.
McCain might have been a maverick at one point (while also dealing poorly with PTSD) but he’s just one of the boys nowadays. Scarey dude.
The MSM should also ask I know how to win wars McCain what about that Coup in Venezuela he and his International Republican Institute (IRI) supported?
Just how successful was that? Also Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega (FSLN) is back after you group helped over throw him.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicaragua
John have you ever had some long lasting foreign policy experience that was a success that didn’t involve war crimes?
Is this the kind of success that we want in Iraq. Is that the vision of the future we want America to represent.
Yeah, well don’t hold your breath waiting for the MSM to be asking any of those questions.
Happy Anniversary of Katrina. Someone could play this for a lot of attention at the convention. I’m just sayin’.
Google the words
And you have to go 4 stories down in the headings before you get any mention of South America remember John is still the Chair of this group.

Amazon is becoming the borg that swallowed the www. Worth noting they will also get abe’s huge interest in Library Thing as part of the acquisition. No end to the profiling opportunities available to Amazon.
Obama should be asking them or at least Biden.
jacqrat, that was huge……and painful…..bring it back for a larger hearing/receiving group. just huge.
Just what does the International Republican Institute (IRI) have against brown people trying to make a decent living.
The people are trapped in poverty because the rich want them as cheap labor. The International Republican Institute (IRI) is not defending Democracy only private property and Capitalism based on wage slave economies.
The International Republican Institute (IRI), is aware that the reason America is so rich is because we pay our workers enough to buy stuff?
Well maybe not maybe they read Milton Friedman. That would explain our current market.
((((DWR1))))
sorry for your pain. I am always here when no one else is around. I just thought, if the dems were smart, they might remind a few people how the last 8 years worked out for some of us.
Indeed!
Iron Chef is done and so am I. Comfort to all at the Lake.
nite dwr1
Sweet dreams all you oh so fine & intrepid late nighters – and thanks for another memorable evening at da lake on an otherwise chilly & foggy central California coast. ;~D
Methamphetamine (also known as meth) is a psychostimulant drug that works by causing those to take it to feel extreme euphoria and excitement. It can be smoked, injected, snorted or ingested and the highs can last up to a day. Unlike Cocaine and Heroin, traditional hard drugs, meth is relatively cheap and its key ingredients, ephedrine or pseudoephedrins can only be produced by highly sophisticated manufacturing techniques that are only possible by nine companies worldwide. Hence, meth can be easily controlled off the marketplace if there was a global will and desire to do so.
http://blog.legendarylife.com/…..h-epidemic
My Bold.
We can either get tighter controls on this drug or just bomb 9 factories and the meth problem is gone. Unlike other drugs there is a choke point we can stop this without throwing billions at the problem with no results.
Yes I do know that throwing billions at problems like war contractors, banks that are in trouble because they made bad choices, abstinence only sex ed etc is the Republican answer to everything but we can’t afford to politically reward fools for not doing the job anymore.
Not only that this could tip lots of Western States our way. Our will corporate profits stand in the way?
Maybe we should tax these companies for the cost to society of their lax product controls.
You would think that NAFTA would give us pull to get Mexico to enforce their laws but I’m sure our drug companies like to be able to sell Meth from Mexico.
Because its so good for the bottom line.
http://blog.legendarylife.com/…..h-epidemic
Nite folks
OK, TBogg doesn’t want me bothering him anymore, so the last gold medal, on the very last day. A number of things to be cynical about but the Olympics can still point fans to the value of sport. Anthony Lane had a good line about how the real Olympics are watching a sport you had no other reason to be familiar with and thinking that you know something in the end.
And infinite thanks that it was not Evan Bayh, even though I had a terrible sinking feeling to this effect.
Lots of dirt on McCain here: http://www.vietnamveteransagainstjohnmccain.com/
wigwam – guess what – we have us a ticket.
How long have we been mulling this?
It’s bullshit and they are they worst of the worst. Still can’t figure that out huh?
’bout time. ;-)
I think that Biden was the best choice of the four commonly mentioned: Sebelius, Kaine, Bayh, Biden. He seems smart, eloquent, reasonably honest, and willing to stand up to the Republicans. I read somewhere that he voted against the MCA and the FISA Amendments Act, which speaks well for him.
It’ll be fun watching him go up against Romney.
Good morning, pups. It’s MoDo, Kristof, Friedman and Rich today. MoDo gives us “Too Much of a Bad Thing,” and says John McCain’s campaign is cheapening his greatest strength by flashing the P.O.W. card to rebut any criticism, no matter how unrelated. Sweet of her to notice. I guess she didn’t have time to put together a hit piece on Biden yet… Mr. Kristof wrote about “Slipping Over the Great Firewall of China,” and said for all the continuing repression, Chinese live far freer lives now than they did in the 1980s and ’90s. The openness even continues to expand on the Internet. Mr. Friedman’s column is titled “Melting Pot Meets Great Wall.” He says China and America can look at their Olympic successes as reaffirmations of their distinctly different political systems. But they could also learn from each other. Mr. Rich gives us a “Last Call for Change We Can Believe In,” and says as the presidential race finally gains the country’s full attention, Barack Obama’s strategy that vanquished Hillary Clinton must be rebooted to take out John McCain.

The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got your choice of croissants, English muffins or toast to serve as the backdrop for eCAHNomics’ homemade elderberry jam.
A while ago someone (Elliott, was it you?) suggested that we plan a huge blow-out brunch to celebrate the end of the W occupation of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. With 150 days to go it might be time to start thinking about it. Do you have any specialty brunch items you’d like to contribute? Let me know at mgpaquin AT aol DOT com and I’ll start putting the menu together. Please be sure to put FDL somewhere in the subject line because I’m brutal about mail from people I don’t know — direct to spam it goes. Have a great day, and I’m looking forward to menu ideas!
Hi, Raven! I guess it’s still “new” to some folks. Glad you’re back to set us straight. As I recall I asked you about either that site or a similar one a while back and you gave me the inside poop on the dude.
These aren’t the quotes you were referring to, but I picked them out while reading through.
Justice cannot be for one side alone, but must be for both. = ER
Never allow a person to tell you no who doesn’t have the power to say yes. = ER
yesterday hugh left us a list (!) of some of biden’s key votes. looks like he took a turn for the better towards the end of 2006.
amen to that.
We can’t afford to wallow in that particular sewer…
There are so many more newer, profitable mines that are cleaner as well.
I had a fairly negative opinion of Biden, but during the primaries, he seemed to be one of the more cogent of the candidates. I think he’ll be okay.
Hey Raven
Good to see ya
BS is BS regardless of whose ends it serves.
Neat picture

Show me a career US Senator and I’ll show you a history of things you won’t like. It’s in the tradition. Hell, Ive had differences with mine, and he’s only been there 2 years.
(I’m hoping for better when he’s in the White House)
His campaign certainly does offer a target-rich environment.
Well, that certainly puts things into perspective, doesn’t it?!
glad to hear that. my two concerns are what it says about economic policy and foreign policy. could be much, much worse though. hoping for the best.
Elliott is upstairs with the Sunday Talking Heads thread.
yes but there are vast differences between, say feingold and … well, just about anyone else.
Keep the site, each day another aspect is shown, a daily dose of real.
Just the last year of McCain’s record is incredibly rich pickings. To resurrect the far past does nothing. I mentioned before, that time was the only time John S. McCain has to show for what he did himself. All else has been the doings of others. On balance, he is a small, insignificant person. Sad and sorrowful sum of a life.

I’m gonna have to go back and read modo again……….first time thru’ I thought, “Somebody at the NYT put the wrong author name on this piece.” All negative bush 3.0 and absolutely no “balance”. *G*
Skunks don’t lose their stripes so you’re definitely right wrt giving her time and the dissing will go full bore.
The exception that proves the rule.
Still, and I could be wrong, it would not surprise me to find a Feingold vote (on a non-critical non-Constitutional issue) which might seem out-of-context.
That all boils down to the difference between fact and either opinion or belief. Facts are basically immutable and rarely “change” although new facts or information can supplant prior facts or information. Opinions and beliefs may be based on fact but not necessarily so and are malleable, changing direction, force, or intent at whim; much as a flag is at the mercy of the winds, or lack of winds. Discernment provides the distinction between.
I think Sagan was making the comment that people should be open to questioning their basic assumptions about politics and religion, but seldom do. The reasons why are worth exploring, and occasionally that happens here at FDL.
