Actually, that’s most of what I’ve been hearing for the past week.
It’s either Romney or it isn’t, and on the Democratic side it’s one of any number of people unless it isn’t.
The point is that we don’t know, and we won’t know until someone comes out and announces something, and this is getting… just the tiniest bit wearing (the consensus of my inbox agrees).
So by virtue of my having tossed fully four detailed, extremely dyspeptic posts on the subject which no-one needs to read on Friday night, I offer you this wonderfully weird, somewhat-disturbing (but not as much as real life) real-life animation from Buenos Aires and Baden (via)
Watch. Exhale. The battle will be there in the morning.
And have a lovely weekend.

Suz!
Friday. [breathes]
You wanna just give me The Look now and get it over with? *g*
Hi, Julia.
I just wish they would announce their picks so everyone would stop hyperventilating. I really do not give a shit who either VP candidate is. I have been voting for over 30 years and I cannot remember a single election where the VP had any significant impact. Period. It. Does. Not. Matter.
no kidding – and that animation is the perfect way to start the weekend.
hi all
just in briefly from the local doings.
thanks for the permission to breath, Julia.
I needed to hear that!
meanwhile, for a hearty laugh and a light hearted moment,
please go here and read.
pax to all!
Hey Suze! I have shared your Youtube from last night with several people today. That really was awesome. Almost makes up for having to go back to work again. 8-(
-/-
glad it helped ease that transition some, dr (pause) dick. muzzy found a great video!!!
I thought they were asking me, but they seem to have lost my phone num.
Hi Julia!
i find this one and this one very helpful in conveying the message.
eh. It’s free media.
I’m sure I’m going to be thoroughly startled. I’m going to vote for the Democrat anyway.
Digg IT
I think you’d be perfect, except for all the politicians you’d be forced to hang out with.
dugg and thanks for opening it nahant
I cannot remember a single election where the VP had any significant impact.
True, maybe, but – what if Gore had a V.P. candidate with some
ballsappeal? What if John Edwards had gotten John Kerry’s back in 2004?
I really believe that a bullshit-callin’, bull-dog, don’t-bring-that-weak-shit- ’round-here Dem V.P. candidate could make a difference *this* time…
I’ve heard this is significant…
That was some animation! Thanks!
Wow. Can’t imagine how long it musta taken to make that animation. Cool stuff.
Could be, but such a great many of the folks who are being floated don’t add much, electorally.
I’m sort of afraid to say it, given how his collegiality jones damaged his last race, but of the people I think he’s likely to pick I’m hoping for Daschle.
I actually cannot remember another election where the VP candidate ever got this much attention from the media. The babbling heads are positively hyperventilating about it. I cannot remember where I saw it, but somebody (maybe LGM or TPM) referenced some studies on the impact of the VP choice and it was only, maybe, 1%.
awesome, isn’t it? I’m thinking just the whitewash guy must have been there for weeks.
Although not as long as the guy who got the filming permission.
Yeah. Some [group of people] must have had a great [couple of months] setting that up.
Howard Dean.
Al Gore.
wow, that was very kewl. thank you julia!
Yeah, it would be nice.
But I don’t think he’s likely to pick them.
Cabinet of Wonders rocks immoderately.
somebody (maybe LGM or TPM) referenced some studies on the impact of the VP choice and it was only, maybe, 1%.
But how would one quantify effectively fighting off the slime machine?
If nothing else, I’m hoping for that from a V.P. candidate.
Julia wonderful…so many videos on the site to enjoy. Thanks the sound effects were neat too.
Darth was a real negative so no more loke him please.
The MSM has gotten very much accustomed to being herded by their corporate masters
I am hoping for that from the presidential candidate. Have seen hopeful signs lately.
But I could quit some of my other jobs, right? And get govt housing and govt health insurance? And hang out with the Obamas? Not bad.
Secret Service to Biden’s Home
from Suburban Guerrilla by Chris
It was the breaking story on the local ABC affiliate. They’re often wrong, especially when they think a national story has local roots. For now, we can only hope they’re wrong. The Senator from MBNA isn’t the worst Democrat ever, but, as always, we could do better.
i just don’t see the ticket being two senators. of course, i am not wearing my glasses so …
And, if it returns to normal, you don’t actually have to do anything, except look dignified, cut ribbons and make an occasional meaningless speech that no one pays any attention to.
And wear a black cloth coat to state funerals in other countries.
oh, good. I hoped people would enjoy it.
I just can’t believe he’d pick Biden. Doesn’t fit hardly anything Obama stands for…in fact he opposite on many things. If it is Biden, I gotta think Obama couldn’t get his first couple of choices to agree to take the job.
Anyway, I saw this “report” came from Jake “Democrat Party” Tapper, so considering how many things he’s been wrong about, I’m not going to take too much stock in his “senior officials” sourced reporting.
I think that comes under the “look dignified” clause.
Well, yeah, but I hear you have to go to a lot of funerals (of course, that’s VP classic. The current VP model appears to be that you make sure there’ll be a lot of funerals and when you have to go, wear a parka)
While I still do not really care a long as it is not a Republican, I decided tonight that Biden must be the absolute worst choice. Both Mark Shields and David Brooks thought he was perfect.
Dr. Dick- I am going out on a limb here by making a confession. (My take right now).
I am totally pissed off with Obama. And, I might not check the box for Pres. come November. (yeah, I’ve heard both sides, so no one need comment on that part).
However, I gotta say, if Obama chose Sibelius as his VP, that would get me to vote on that line (Obama/ Sibelius). Yep, she was totally boring in her Dem response (or whatever that was called, way back when. Yep, you can accuse me of being sexist. But, frankly, looking at the field of potential VP picks, I’m not sure I see another who is “clearly better”.
Yes but can they do some kind of operation where they can remotely lock his jaws shut
If Brooks says he’s perfect, the word on the street must be that he’s not the guy. It is Brooks, after all.
Our current guy has presided over the funeral of a lot of freedoms
I’m a yellow dog, so I look at this differently, I guess, but what it is about Sibelius that you like?
Not being snarky here. Genuinely interested.
You know me well enough to know I will choose classic and then add my own little touches.
Both Mark Shields and David Brooks thought he was perfect.,/i>
Rut-roh. Pat Buchanadana thinks Biden is second-best choice, after HRC.
Ominous.
And I’ll never forgive Biden for the catastrophic Bankruptcy Bill.
Well, at least Obama won’t pick Lieberman. Well, I think he won’t, right?
Well, you have my vote :)
I don not think it is sexist at all. Have to say that of the people seriously being floated I kind of lean toward her as well.
Julia – I have developed a general rule of thumb which is if Brooks says it, the opposite must be true. As to Shields, can’t we get an honest to God progressive on PBS? He may be a nominal Democrat, but he reminds me of Ford Republicans from the 70s.
please excuse the driveby, but I am on a road trip to Colorado, and everybody here thinks I am some kind of political expert. They want to know the latest rumors regarding McCain’s VP choice. any ideas?
It’s interesting how the people who were, you know, Democrats, when that’s what got you hired hopped the fence when Reagan came along.
It could almost make a girl cynical.
Jack Abramof
our local news station says it’s Romney, fwiw.
the ‘latest’ is that it is biden. kaine and bayh are out – and your guess is as good as any of the talking heads is.
how’s the road trip?
oh crap – nevermind… you wanted the gop pick
Speaking of road trips, Ms Suz, speak to us of yours.
Has this been discussed today?
Iraq and the Bush administration have reached a preliminary agreement under which U.S. combat forces would pull out of major Iraqi cities, where most of the fighting has taken place, by next June and leave Iraq by 2011. It would link troop reductions to achievement of certain undisclosed security milestones. The deal also would require the endorsement of top Iraqi leaders and the Iraqi parliament, which is far from certain.
So the Iraqi Parlaiment must ratify the deal, but the Congress of the United States?
Nah, they’d just get in Boosh’s way, and besides, it’s not like they constitutionally have to ratify treaties or anything.
In Shields case, I think it is just Village Fever. He got too close personally to his subjects (always a bad idea for the press). I have heard him repeatedly speak about how honorable McCain is, which is demonstrably absolute bullshit. Keating 5 proved that – and he used the POW defense then as well.
I bet the voters could relate to a divorced single mom who’s taking the job at least half for the health care plan and the housing. Not to mention my other qualities.
For those needing a good laugh(and that is most folks here) try this Mark Fiore animated cartoon:
Vote For Oil!
Well, you would certainly be an infinite improvement over the current occupant of the office.
Julia, it’s just that among the current widely mooted crop of Dem VP noms, no one particularly excites me, even Sibeleus. And many turn me flat off (Bayh, Kaine). And, I wasn’t particularly thinking of political calculus re: “best VP candidate”- I don’t know how to measure that. However, and, this is where my “sexism” comes in- I would really like to see a female on the ballot for VP. (No, not to the extent of supporting Hillary. Nope. And, gawd forbid another Ferraro). So, unless Obama comes up with a VP choice who totally knocks my socks off, and none of the probables have, the female factor would make a difference to me. (but, note what I said above about Hillary and Ferraro). As I said, above, my current take. Subject to change as I learn more.
Ok. That is weird. Your link just takes me to the top of the post.
road trip is ok except that whenever my wife and I travel anywhere by car, we get abducted by aliens and it takes a lot longer to get there than it should
but I am “there” now, so that is no longer a problem.
forking gorgeous eye candy. the first day i stopped and had a wonderful lunch with laura d. it was hot in ca and the car’s ac was battling my unfortunate choice of dark long sleeved shirt.
foggy by the time i got to crescent city where i stayed at a motel with crappy wifi.
the second day of the trip was glorious. crashing waves, dramatic cliff faces and lots and lots of good looking men riding bikes along 101. sunshine in spots, foggy in others.
i got to the cozy cottage on the coast mid-afternoon and promptly fell in love with it. the only thing i would add to the wish list for this place is a fireplace. otherwise, its forking perfect for me and i’m gonna be looking for something like it when i start the housing search.
wanna try that link again.. its not working
Well, you would certainly be an infinite improvement over the current occupant of the office.
True, dat. Watch out for trip-wires, a booby-trapped man-sized safe, and a computer that will self-destruct if the wrong password is attempted, Betsy.
Have to generally agree with that calculus, though mostly she is just the only one who does not turn me off in some way and seems honestly somewhat progressive.
and tex would nevah evah shoot an old guy in the face
I’ll have Al the Spook sweep the place before i move in.
Nah. If you was ever to shoot a guy (God forbid), she would blow his ass or nuts off. 8-)
Yeah, the Tex Ex is nowhere near old yet.
That should read, “if she was ever”
double crap – i neglected to mention the great lunch i had with katymine in florence on the second day.
i’m still recoverying from all that bloody packing – and am not looking forward to doing it all in reverse.
Looks like a lot of us could use an EDIT button these days.
*sigh*
Well I know I have always needed a good editor.
Important p.s. Julia- oops- I NOW see where my wording in my first comment probably caused confusion- my bad.
I said “I’m not sure I see another who is “clearly better”.
I meant “I’m not sure I see anyone among the mooted names who is “clearly better than the others”. (oh, gawd, I see some who are clearly worse, however…)
The Audacity of Ursury?
One of several reasons I am not a fan of Biden.
I could – I keep putting an extra “r” in usury.
Mebbe cause the bankruptcy bill was so republican friendly.
I am fading here and I want to get up and amuse the fishies in the morning, so it’s off to bed. Take care and enjoy the snark.
g’nite dr (pause) dick
Mebbe cause the bankruptcy bill was so republican friendly.
Yeah, if by Republicans you mean “creditors”. Bankruptcy, as a concept, no longer exists – it’s merely an extended payment plan.
Yes. I agree with that completely. I like the way you framed it, too.
good sleep, dr (pause) dick – have fun with the fins….
sleep well dr d

Hey neurophius – a local discontent in our tiny hamlet of Carmel by the Sea spread a rumor last weekend that local icon Clint Eastwood signaled McShame to annoint Joseph Liarman VP. Its been the talk of the town but the local weekly paper out yesterday passed on the rumor much to my surprise & disappointment.
Know this is pretty lame but its all I’ve got. ;~))
Cheney appointed himself!
Too bad I’m here and you’re there – I like unpacking!
Especially other people’s things. Because every box is like a present – ooh look what’s in here.
Hi Suzanne….. Elmore is coming down from Portland for the weekend….. Moving day for the Parents is Monday afternoon…… get them settled and make sure they have everything they need and then back to the real world….
Thankfully it stopped raining, sunny but cool
personally, I don’t think McShame needs Clint Eastwood to signal him to annoint Liarman as VP. I think McShame is salivating at the prospect, and is just waiting for his minders to tell him it is OK.
And even if they don’t, he may do it anyway. After all, he’s The Maverick, isn’t he? /s
I’m trying to appoint myself. I have three supporters just from this thread.
supposed to be nice all weekend until sun night when it is supposed to cloud over – but rain is only astoria north so the move should go fine
according to the weather dood on the teevee
Wait, but Wonkette says Jack Reed got a Secret Service detail today also!
http://wonkette.com/402147/jac…..eep-choice
It’s gonna be Howard Dean or Gore. They wouldn’t put the rabid supporters through all the anxious waiting for a VP that most of the public hasn’t heard of. Plus, if Obama was going to name a relatively unknown person, you’d think they’d want to public to have some time to get to know them before the convention…at least a few weeks.
Video: good stuff (nice music/sound).
Excuse me, but how is it, exactly, that media folks are able detect the comings and goings of Secret Service details? Isn’t all that supposed to be, you know, secret?
I guess I’ve become cynical. I look right past clearly better to the math.
It’s a shame. I used to be a really idealistic person.
I’m not sure I see that calculus for her, though.
but but but even mavericks are supposed to respect their elders and as hard as it is to believe Dirty Harry is oh so much older, albeit just as cranky & conservative.
Count me in; that makes four.
ding!
I did not realize there was anyone older than McShame
from your mouth to Obama’s ears!
Thank you, my friend. Some days I get the feeling the folks here are the only ones actually paying any attention to what’s going on, y’know?
No enthusiasm here for any of the likelys. Skeptical about Biden – watched too much c-span blathering.
That said, though his message doesn’t inspire me, Obama’s competent organization suggests good judgment/effectiveness. Hope I don’t have to eat those words..
hey – I can’t watch the video says it no longer exists? or is it just me…
I still like Joe!
Hey, happy Friday everyone.
Watching “Across the Universe” — has anyone seen this film? All Beatles music and class war love story during the Vietnam war.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0445922/
LOL !
Joe who?
its working for me

Texteen & Cassie’s favorite movie. Or at least the only one they would both gladly watch together.
My sons loved it, I want to see it.
Pretty cool film! And of course, I know all the lyrics.
I’ve heard a lot about it. How beatles-obsessed 12yo friendly is it?
Margot!
It is cool, and painful.
Have a look at this chart from Digby:
http://digbysblog.blogspot.com…..chard.html
No Julia, not 12 yr. old friendly AT ALL. Too much sex and drugs, and family dissonance.
Hey Tex!
It is some film, and I didn’t even plan on watching. 1968 all over again.
On the other hand, Texteen saw it at 13. Not a problem IMHO when in the company of an adult who can pause, discuss, explain, etc.
I’ve got to put on a sweater now: I’m getting cold shouldered.
Joe, your running mate.
TexasBetsy/J. Biden
What a ticket!
Excellent — you are such a good teacher.
Thanks Chris!

“Hey Jude, don’t be afraid, you were made to go out and get her…”
Gore, with the energy/environment portfolio or Dean, with the economy portfolio. With major commitments to staffs and power.
Just dreaming…..
I’m skeptical about Biden as well – am oh so turned off and easily irritated by plagarists, preening male political peacocks with blindingly white teeth who never met a camera news crew they can resist preening before. Obviously I hope the rumors of being on Obama’s ticket are just that. :~(
MSNBc is reporting NBC News has confirmed Obama picks Biden as running mate.
