It wouldn’t be Friday around here without a good fisking of the latest Nooner. And she didn’t disappoint today, writing about how foreign awful Obama was at Saddleback.
This is what it looked like by the end of the night: Mr. McCain, normal. Mr. Obama, not normal.
And why is that, Nooner?
…on abortion in particular, Mr. McCain seemed old-time conservative, which is something we all understand, whether we like such a stance or not, and Mr. Obama seemed either radical or dodgy…
As I watched I thought: How about "Let the baby live"? Don’t parse it. Just "Let the baby live."
Obama supports Roe, putting him in agreement with 63% of his fellow countrymen. And nearly 60% of the country disagrees with the Republican Party’s platform that abortion should be always illegal. Radicals!
As to the question when human life begins, the answer to which is above Mr. Obama’s pay grade, oh, let’s go on a little tear. You know why they call it birth control? Because it’s meant to stop a birth from happening nine months later. We know when life begins. Everyone who ever bought a pack of condoms knows when life begins.
Everyone knows when life begins — except the Vatican. Now you’d think a Catholic who once gave the Pope a knuckle job would know that. I guess that makes the Catholic Church "dodgy."
If you want to argue whether legal abortion is morally defensible, have at it and go to it, but Mr. Obama’s answers here seemed to me strange and disturbing.
They would, Nooner. They’re reasoned and thoughtful, and well in the mainstream of America. Exactly what Republicans find strange and disturbing.

About Firedoglake
The Republicans had six solid years of uninterrupted control of the Government, including rather illegal control of the judiciary branch. Yet they didn’t overturn Roe v. Wade during that time. Clearly they’re completely insincere about giving a damn about the issue of abortion.
Of course they’re insincere about it.
In the first place, when a GOoPer’s daughter has a birth-control failure, she needs an abortion. In the second place, if they actually did something about it, they’d take away one of their best hot-button issues.
They’re beyond insincere, they’re cynically hypocritical about it.
BC
The Republics care about the issue of abortion. They want it to be there, election after election, to be used a campaign issue. It’s odd that their supporters never notice that the Republics have no intention of actually doing anything about abortion beyond talking.
What she slid off her barstool to weigh in on the election? Buy her a drink.
Nooner’s always been The Catholic Concern Troll.
BTW the US-Argentina basketball game is coming on.
boyohboy, she’s a piece of cake. cept they forgot to put the sugar in with the cr*sco when they made the frosting.
How can you READ that stuff, BT?!
Anyway. Thanks for doing it so we don’t have to.
Why Hugh! Bktbll trumps Noonia? Shocked. just shocked…
I just don’t know what to say. She speaks for her(idiot)self. Nooner is like a softer, nuttier, but equally despicable version of Ann Coulter with the stuff she spews.
I love how the wingers turn pale with abject horror when they hear someone phrase an original thought, no prompters r’ nuttin.
Just a note from the trenches…I’ve had three clients ask me today how many houses I own (in jest, of course)…2 via email and one laughing, on the phone. Of course, I shot the question right back. Ya think this meme’s a keeper? Yep.
later gang. off to watch Kobe & our local hero, Lebron James.
thanks for the headsup, Hugh ;->
oh yeah!!! ;->
The Repubs do not want Roe overturned – that would finish them and they know it. No self-respecting woman would ever vote Repub again.
Where does Peggy get off speaking for Catholics? She wrote speeches for Bush 1 you know the guy we think ran Iran Contra cause Reagen was to senile to know what was going on.
Come on Peggy Sell weapons to Iran so you have money extra to give the Nun killers Reagen/Bush let loose in South America.
I am surprised that you and Pat Buchanan have not been excomunicated.
Its no wonder brown people are leaving the church in droves Peggy.
See we talk and compare notes.
Funny, an abortion video on youtube produced by illumnati tv goes viral through the evangelical community the same day Noonan produces this?
No coincidence here. All timed.
Funny how this is happening right when Obama is about to announce his Veep.
Just got the link email sent throughout the evangelical community sent from an evangelical family member set on converting us to McC voters.
Illumnat tv was founded in 2003 and is based in NC. Anyone have any other information on them? I’m trying to find out who their board of directors happens to be.
Clusterfuck tryin to boil the pot with his executive order protecting hospital employees from being “forced” to participate in abortions.
By the way, does anyone really think that any of these gooper presidents or wannabes give a shit about abortion? I don’t
You sure they’re not sandbagging it until they get 1 more Supreme?
If we take McCain out at the knees, we’ll soon find out.
T-
Noonan is now 57—she is probably now safe from the sin of abortion.
This (and war) are issues that YOUNG people should decide.
where’d the edit button go?
If we don’t take McCain out at the knees…

Is she too old to help out a few snowflake babies?
As an older Catholic isn’t birth control a sin too? (Never confirmed Catholic here)

Great summary discussion of current senate races and dem chances of reaching 60 seats.
Glad to be here. This is scary. Im tired/bad mood today with car repairs. Uggg. Nevertheless, if Mr. Mc is looking normal to her, I am really sorry. He is a grimacing, hostile ol’ “fa*t” as my good friend says. Why does she think that looks normal? Sorry Peggy.
How about “Let the baby live”
How about giving a shit about that baby during the time period between conception and the day that the person files his/her first million dollar tax return?
Well I suppose so- but I doubt if ol Peg needs the pill.
Perhaps abortion should be made retroactive.
I don’t understand why Peggy would use the word “normal” – why wouldn’t it be normal to have your own opinion about something. I find that odd. If McC is normal I’ll eat my computer.
It’s a dirty job but…
If McC is normal I’ll eat my computer.
If I did that, it would be as a Dell-y sandwich…
If money talks and bullsh– walks then the Raw Story is reporting that the American Issues Project is spending 2.8 million on an anti-Obama ad linking him to Bill Ayers. Will begin running in Michigan Friday.
http://rawstory.com/news/2008/….._0822.html
Hoping that the Obama campaign has a forceful smackdown of another Republican smear.
It has to be five million – otherwise (s)he’s just middle class. *g*
Now that’s a good one. Mine would be Mac and cheese. :)
Somethin funny about 500 white guys over 60 years old sitting in congress and deciding to send twenty year olds to war and deciding who can do what to avoid giving birth to a child- and that’s just a start.
Oh joy. Good thing i keep the tv off. -_-x I’m already tired of the commercials in the first place when i visit others watching tv. Now that MI is an official ‘battleground’ state, it’s made it even worse than usual here. *headdesks*
But time for Obama to roll out the Keating Five ad- and then the fireworks can officially begin..
This is going to be one dirty campaign.
My mom and both grandmothers had a favorite saying:
Be careful what you wish for, because you may get it.
If we don’t send McCain to his choice of the seven houses Sugartit owns, the GOoPers are going to get what they have said they want. And they’ll regret it.
BC
Of course they don’t.
Dolphins are normal.
Nope. She could if she wanted to — the oldest woman to give birth was in her 60s. IIRC, she was a surrogate for her daughter.
I’m a woman, not much younger than Noonan & I absolutely can’t relate to anything she says. Talk about left behind. She seems to have gotten stuck in the 50’s time warp even tho she was only a child during that era. I smell more than a little anger from those who cling to their “Father Knows Best” fantasy utopian reveries.
So she never had sex outside of marriage uh…heck good!
the newsiest twist and trun propoganda is about barack’s vote in illinois to kill babies…..no kidding….was on fox-hannity and colmes last night, boy were they convincing…had this issue on a few nights, few channels and different guests….and lo and behold a caller here on the local call-in show was spewing it. then brought up that in muslim communities it’s ok to kill family members if you have a reason.
unbelievable.
i of course called in and corrected him that there are laws protecting babies once they are a baby, and that this proposed law had other things in it. so, vote was not to kill babies.
and brought up a point someone on fox brought up that the nurse that testified about this before congress said she found a ‘baby in hte trash’ and cradled it for 45 minutes, why did she not rush it to the emergency room?

Nooner is like Hannity..Not evil – just stupid.
rwcole@36:
Boy, you have that right.
nah, i think he is evil. didn’t used to, but i do now.
I think “evil”, also. Why else would he still be yakking about Ayres and Wright for the last, Oh, 4-5 months. His truly favorite topics, + Mrs. O hates America. Evil (and stupid) And yesterday he had the decidely evil, K Rove on for about hour of his program. Evil loves evil; birds of a feather on the radio.
Not unless you count the daily blow jobs she gave saint Ronnie.
“Let the baby live”… how’s about: “Let the baby eat?” Oh, right, how the kid survives once it gets here is SOOO not her problem.
First of all that’s 18 year olds their sending to war (and younger with parents’ “permission”). Nothin funny about it. That’s what they DO.
If this were actually a “sanctity of life” issue with the anti-abortionists, wouldn’t you think they’d show a little more concern about children once they’ve been born? You know, like making sure they have good health care? Adequate food and clothing? Excellent schools? Sex education programs? Wouldn’t you think they’d be out picketing fertility clinics, if they really believed that blastula are “babies”? If all life is sacred, wouldn’t you think they’d show an equal concern for the health of the mother in cases of life-threatening pregnancies? All of which causes me to suspect that what the No Abortions Under Any Circumstances crowd really, deep down, wants to do is punish women for having sex. Wonder how’d they’d react if men were legally required to do a little sacrificing, too. Let’s say, oh… how about mandatory casteration for all rapists, or a vasectomy required for all men who father more than one or two children? This would certainly cut down on the need for abortions, now wouldn’t it? You’d think that if this was such a burning moral issue, men would be willing to assume a little responsibilty to do their fair share here, wouldn’t you?
Nooner speaks for the official doctrine of the church. It’s no surprise she and Pat haven’t been excommunicated. As for the rest of American Catholics–about 1/4 of the U.S. population according to Wikipedia–many of them disagree with official church teaching. (Why they identify still as Catholics is beyond me at this point–having given up my own practice 25 years ago as I could not live with the inconsistencies.) But of course you won’t find many Catholics appearing in the MSM taking issue with church teaching. The church ostracizes those folks, and not just politicians like Kerry who were denied communion because of their pro-choice views. Remember Douglas Kmiec, law professor and pro-life Catholic, who endorsed Obama was denied communion this summer?
Sshh. That’s a secret. You’re not supposed to know that….
I doubt Noonan meant Obama looked “foreign” because his skin is dark, but I’ll bet many of her readers took it that way.
Why is it always black & white with those folks?
For example:
They say they want abortion to be illegal. But, do we wonder what will happen to all those Republican doctors and women who have back-alley abortions? The radical ‘pure’ view would be they are guilty of a capital crime.
Does America support the radical black & white view that every abortion demands a capital conviction and punishment?
Similarly on fiscal responsibility and taxation:
Instead of Republicans or George Bush they blame Democrats for the complicated tax system and federal debt. They’ve had government for how many years now and didn’t touch the subject. They’ve got how many lobbyist friends demanding all the benefits and they can somehow blame Democrats. It’s incredible.
Got personal responsibility?
