Community property states sometimes allow a party to chose a separate property regime. Most states make inherited property and perhaps its “fruits” or earnings separate and therefore remain separate. Cindy certainly came into the marriage with a large amount, or inherited a large chunk of assets that do not lose the characterization of separate.

Of the eight posts that appear on FDL’s front page, seven are about (or mention) the “John McCain’s houses” story. (Thank god for peggy noonen!)

Which, of course, is a complete non-story, since of course most of the residential real estate holdings are actually owned by Cindy McCain’s trust fund, and the fact that he doesn’t know the residential real estate portfolio of his wife’s trust fund isn’t terribly relevant to what the Oborg is trying to get across here.

I seldom stop by here anymore….and only came by to check to see how bad things had gotten — Lambert at corrente noted that there were 24 mentions of McCain’s houses at the Great Orange Cheeto, and WKJM has 23 mentions.

If I were Cindy, Jane, or Dave, I’d be hiding my mirrors right now…

The electoral vote graphs I was referring to were the graphs that omit ‘barely’ and tied states, and report only those states with 5% or more margin either way.

That’s exactly where I was going to go. Frankly, how MANY house servants does he have? $275,000 seems like a lot of money… but if you have ten house servants, that’s poverty wages!

The grotesque corruption and incompetence of the corporate media is on display again. One would think that they would be more wary after being burned by Rove/Bush in two elections (and who knows how many times in between).

But apparently they are too inept, or lazy or corrupt, or all three to do anything much. They certainly lack any self-respect or work ethic. Many reporters do good jobs, but that is filtered through corrupt editors, and many other reporters do poor or very uneven work.

Obama’s quiet during the summer makes me nervous. I would prefer to Truman or 1964 LBJ approach, which would be more like a major Powell doctrine style political assault, with smaller search and destroy missions.

But, given the corporate media’s unwillingness to function, the Obama approach might be best -since it so far has marshalled a lot of resources that bypass the national corporate media.

When I get nervous I look at the graph of electoral votes at the link below.

http://www.electoral-vote.com/.....-2008.html

Over time, Obama’s solid electoral vote base has been slowly increasing, and is now appraoching 270. That is in stark contrast to Kerry four years ago, whose solid support was being destroyed at just this time, maybe because of his lack of response to the Swiftboat attacks. McCain’s solid base is slowly decaying. Most of the movement has been in a very broad group of swing states.

Opinion poll movements in the summer don’t tend to predict very much, either.

Let’s hope that Obama and his campaign know what they are doing. Looks like in some ways, they do. This VP announcement act better be good!

http://www.architecturaldigest.....rentPage=2

this comment about the cat from mccain’s aliby ’swindle’ being prominently displayed, was to christy in the last thread, but wanted to post the carpet thing here–

epu’d
i looked at these photos yesterday, and that cat stood out..but didn’t see the captions…..was the only thing in the photos that wasn’t framed, or an objet d’art besides the towels on the lounge chairs by the pool..bizarre.

and the train on the mantle–glass over it.

and weird thing, cindy refers to things in the ‘one step removed’ way—my husband, over and over, and “has been in the family” not my family when talking about her childhood home….

did anyone read the article? i did yesterday.
mccain saed cindy has a photo fetish-
and the article mentions one–this is so strange,,,one of mccain the day he dropped out of the race the last time, now, tell me, is this a photo you would want around to remind you of thatday?

and–
ya just can’t make this stuff up
==snip==
The house is also a showcase of the senator’s enthusiasm for buying exotic carpets. “I’m a terrible shopper, but I buy these rugs when I travel. I was recently in Afghanistan and bought this,” he says, pointing out a large, finely made carpet in russet and brown. There are others from Turkey and Georgia, as well as the Native American carpets from his wife’s family.
reply

bbl.

I disagree with you…. Arizona is a community property state and these assets were bought during the last 5-10 years which per AZ law would be jointly owned EVEN IF they are only in her name….. The title cannot say (like mine does) CindyLou a single woman…..

Beside I don’t own my own home…. the mortgage company does…..

QUESTION:
Are these homes owned outright or is there paper on them?
