Cindy made a fortune (another one) when they allowed beer into the Indian casinos…as part of McCain’s 1988 Indian Gaming Act.

Is this what McCain plans for all of America?

Beer for everyone. Lower the drinking age. No ‘Death Taxes’.

Lovely.

How can alcohol be blamed for 100,000 deaths each year?

And yet some universities are calling for a reduction in the drinking age.

Does this make you think they want to kill off a generation of potentially dedicated Democratic voters?

Not in every state — each state’s laws are different and it depends on in which state the prenup was signed as to what is controlling in terms of limitations. Most don’t expire unless otherwise written into the prenup itself — it’s a negotiated bit. Generally what happens on the birth of the child is that the prenup details don’t apply in terms of child support — because you cannot contractually limit the child’s rights to property or other support before that child is born, since you don’t know the circumstances (e.g. health issues, developmental delays, monetary gain of one or the both parents, etc., that might arise between entry into the prenup and birth of a child) — so it doesn’t apply to kids, but it is generally enforceable as to adults who negotiate and enter into the agreement themselves, depending on how it is written, the terms of the agreement and applicable state law in which all marital/estate property is owned.

There are a LOT of things that go into the negotiation of something like that — which is why lawyers who do them are highly specialized in tax code as well as domestic law knowledge — but, fwiw, I have never heard of a provision requiring the prenup to expire outright on the birth of a child without that being specifically negotiated within the individual agreement itself. At least not here in WV.

But YMMV depending on your own state’s law and that of other states in which property may be held. And, as always, the standard disclaimer of this is not legal advice, consult an attorney in your own jurisdiction for how this may or may not apply to the individual facts in your individual situation, yadda yadda yadda.

no, it was mentioned downstairs on a thread but I just did a search and all I can find is that prenupts expire at the birth of a child or by contract, not by other stature

from what I can find it looks like there is no time constraint unless there is a child

More info on another McCain house….This one was bought so that McCain lived in the congressional district he was running from….. hmmmmm just north of where I live….. surely I’ve driven right by this place….
Tempe homeowners own piece of McCain history

But the Maricopa County Recorder does hold the conclusive evidence. A warranty deed from 1987 shows the home being sold by Eagle Enterprises, whose general partner is listed as James W. Hensley - McCain’s father-in-law.

How McCain came to live at 921 E. Lamplighter Lane and how he left are both interesting footnotes in his political career.

According to biographer Robert Timberg, in early 1982 McCain needed an East Valley residence, and quickly. Republican Rep. John Rhodes was stepping down from a long career in Washington, and McCain wanted that seat.

But McCain lived in Phoenix, outside the boundaries of what was then the 1st Congressional District. So wife Cindy went to work.

As Timberg states in his book, “John McCain: An American Odyssey,” on the very day of Rhodes’ news conference announcing his retirement, Cindy bought the Lamplighter house.

Somehow I don’t think that a homeowner in the liberal bastion of Tempe would brag that McCain slept here…

What is community property?

There are nine community property states - Arizona, California, Idaho, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin. In addition, Puerto Rico is a community property jurisdiction.

These states generally regard as community property all property that has been acquired during the marriage, other than a gift or inheritance. Even if one spouse earns all the money to acquire the property, all the property acquired is considered to be community property. While there are a number of differences in each state, all states have special laws that operate on the theory that both spouses contribute equally to the marriage; thus all property acquired during the marriage is the result of the combined efforts of both spouses. In community property jurisdictions, spouses equally own all community property (fifty percent owned by the husband and fifty percent owned by the wife).

(notice that community property is only property acquired DURING the marriage)
