I’d say it’s semi-official:
A Republican official tells The Associated Press that Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman will be speaking at the Republican National Convention.
The GOP official said Wednesday that Lieberman would deliver a speech as Republicans gathered in St. Paul to nominate John McCain for president. The official requested anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to make an announcement.
Lieberman was the 2000 Democratic vice presidential nominee but is now an independent. He has been one McCain’s strongest supporters and is considered a contender to be McCain’s running mate.
"Running mate?" Well, Rove and Hannity are cool on the idea and despite their Joe love, they think he’d make a better Secretary of State (per Think Progress). But they hate McCain anyway, so who gives a shit what they think, right?
In the end the idea of all that free press is, I fear, just going to be too seductive for media whore McCain — and there isn’t a single thing Joe Lieberman believes in more than Joe Lieberman. So I’m sure any position he has that might be troublesome to the GOP base will be whipped off for Big John faster than a pair of edible panties.
He didn’t put in all that Hagee time for nothing.

Who among the Democratic party ultimately endorsed Lieberman over Lamont? I would like to see that list.
As of this moment he should be removed from the Democratic caucus.
During the Democratic Primary several democratic congressmen supported Lieberman. After the primary, I’m not sure but I imagine that Jane has that list.
snake……..he is the perfect snake oil salesman…exudes it
Absolutely right.
but if we remove Joe from the caucus what will happen to the impeachment hearings?
Poll shows McCain in 5-point lead over Obama

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – In a sharp turnaround, Republican John McCain has opened a 5-point lead on Democrat Barack Obama in the U.S. presidential race and is seen as a stronger manager of the economy, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.
McCain leads Obama
we better get behind our canidate……………in a VERY BIG WAY….do you really think Darth is going to retire?
you’d think
Lieberman the attack Chihuahua!
The problem is perception. The idea of a republican disliked by his own party running with a Democrat disliked by his own party would be attractive to a lot of people. If both sides hate them, they must be doing something right. And the perception outside the blogosphere for both McBush and Holy Joe is MUCH more positive. To be able to run against BOTH parties just might be enough to win as both have very high negatives.
It would work well here in Ohio, I fear.
Boxturtle (No one ever lost by underestimating the intelligence of the average voter)
sorta OT:
I do not know what to make of this latest Zogby poll. But McCain has rocketed up 12 points in the last month and now leads Obama by 7 in the General election match up.
Has anyone called Reid’s office for comment?
depends on which poll you read. McCain got a small bounce while Obama was on vacation but I read that it had gone back to the original figures.
And it is Liberals and Young people abandoning him according to Zogby. I am sceptical of the 40% support amoung the youth vote that they indicated McCain has.
You folks will go nuts if you take polls this early in the process seriously.
Boxturtle (Statistically speaking, 50% of all statistical anaylsis is flawed)
I am more than sceptical. I flatly don’t believe it. NYT
said last night that Obama has some very hard ads running now.
What impeachment hearings?
It’s now Dugg
I took some liberties with HoJo’s nickname.
MAN we need to fight, the media, the spin the repukes………..take off the gloves…..this is gonna be a fight to the death…or LIFE OF THE DEMOCRACY
“
“
Democratic 527’s need to be unleashed. Once September comes, republican 527’s will make McCain’s lies seem mild.
I don’t see how Reid can leave Joe in his committee chairs after he speaks to the Repubs. It must not happen so we need to start jumping on Reid right away I think.
And did someone call Reid on his bulls**t. Lieberman has hinted that Obama is a traitor.
Negative ads work.
When will the Democrats realize this?
Probably when it is too late.
make no mistake….THIS WILL BE THE DIRTIEST contest ever….as PUKES they will,LIE CHEAT AND STEAL
as merkins are watching Phelps or wondering where o where ,can Caylee be…or another run away bride
McLiar and Liarman a marriage made in ______ ?
right NOW today…unmask the wolf in sheepish attire
Then again, Harry is pro-life so I guess he doesn’t mind HoJo’s p’wning Nancy Keenan again.
according to Zogby.
I stopped reading when I hit the word “Zogby”.
I think Benedict Arnold has been seriously misjudged. He wasn’t a traitor. He was just being bipartisan.
Yes, Zogby has a reputation for skewing conservative in his polls.
lets not propigate an unknown….talk up the positives of this guy,and of democracy……ask people if they still believe in a democracy, and social contract
McBush will give SS to wall street to DESTROY ,make no mistake
Nail, meet coffin.
haahahahahahhaa
It took Hitler to make Germany the democracy it is today.
McCain/Lieberman is the perfect ticket.
me, too. don’t know why but they always seem to be wrong. NYT has headline up now that O is running some very hard hitting ads around the country. Once the VP is named I think the games will truly begin.
In the words of the inimitable TRex:
attack…Attack…ATTACKKKKKK!!!!
Joementum and the Neocons need a new label. How about the Hobfays?
(from “Halliburton Off-Budget Fairies”TM Attaturk)
yup………………..never surrender….mofos
Grand Old Party, God’s Own Party . . .
whatevah.
Impeachment proceedings begin in the House although as the Watergate hearings showed either chamber can begin an investigation. The House approves a bill of impeachment charges by a simple majority. A trial would then take place in the Senate but it takes 2/3 for conviction. So Joe’s vote would not materially affect the process.
A reporter with some balls needs to ask Joe what country he holds his allegiance to. He can attack Obama’s patriotism but I guess his is off limits.
We’ll always have Steny
Is anyone here even remotely surprised by this?
duel Israeli citizenship i believe
GOP Grand Oil Party
Yes, Zogby has a reputation for skewing conservative in his polls.
I would posit that Zogby’s reputation is for being more wrong, more often, and – run by John Zogby, shown here in all his lack of seriousness on TDS.

Nice guy, but do I wanna trust *that* intellect? Nope.
must go……………..fight the good fight …i do every day,in every way i can, dont go gently into that good night
Is anyone here even remotely surprised by this?
The voters of Connecticut?
Lieberman seems to “work the room” to follow DC “power brokers” on their way to the White House. His insipid behavior requires extreme examination. Would like to see a journalist follow his every minute and report how Joe is serving tax payers and upholding the Constitution.
no
no. but i still have trouble seeing it happening.
So what does Obama, Hilary all the Dem leaders who helped Joe have to say?
Are we going to have to worry about Blue Dog Dem Senators switching to the GOP now when we do are election math.
Who is going to be the next Joe?
Joe will always be a “camp follower” selling his charms to the highest bidder.
Are you serious? The Republican party all but endorsed him in his 2006 re-election bid. They knew what they were getting.
i would be tempted to try to describe how much i despise reid, but i despise lieberman even more. need a new scale.
Can people stop blaming Nader for losing the 2000 election now? Obviously it was Loserman.
On the bright side, Nader will probably get more votes in 2012.
Are you serious?
So you’re saying that you don’t think that they fell for Joe’s “Independent Democrat” invention? *g*
Why does that remind me of “enemy combatant”?
OT — an immediate alternative to McCain&Co’s “drill, drill, drill…”
Stop exporting American oil. We export more than we use. Stick that in your gas pump, Re-thugs.
We do need a new word for the awfulness of those 2 and others. Maybe we will have to start using numbers like the Olympics – except they have decided that their system has to be changed because the people are so good now. We won’t have THAT problem.
Loserman gave away the veep debate to Chee-knee.
Joe will always be a “camp follower” selling his charms to the highest bidder.
Obviously, there are a whole bunch of buyers anxious to partake of the “charms” of wrinkly old white guys….
/disturbing mental image
Hey, maybe L’il Lie-bee’s son-in-law the rabbi who is an Obama supporter should speak at the Dems convention….
stepson? anyway, I’ll take the rabbi’s values over ol’ 40 piece of silver Lie’bee any day.
Exactly right. I’ll say it again, these early polls are essentially meaningless, don’t get upset about them.
WHen he is 80
Joe and McC would be quite a pair running, wouldn’t they? Joe is only 66, I believe, but looks much older. I have a feeling that most of the people in this country would be turned off to these two.
uh–that was snark.
I guess badly disguised as commentary.
Aren’t polls more about shaping opinion?
Brain Bleach!
Before hitting the panic button, I would recommend everyone read Digby’s post concerning Obama’s ground game strategy.
At this stage of the campaign, when those who will decide this election are not paying much attention, if any, this is where the money needs to go.
Come autumn, when the BS McCain is currently spewing is a distant memory, Obama’s GOTV infrastructure will still be there and paying big dividends.
see: penn, mark.
Polls can be used to shape opinions – there are push polls in which the questions are worded (or, even more nefariously, asked, using intonation) in such a way as to elicit the desired response. Polls can be useful in showing trends, but we are still way too early in the race. IIRC, Kerry was down after the swiftboating, then up against Bush in 2004 up to about a week before the election.
In short:
uh Karl
there, fixed.
Hitler made the trains run on time
John McShame doesn’t give a shit if they run on time he has his wifes plane and hopes to have the USAF
“I know that some in the party have differences with Joe,” Senator Obama said, all but silencing the crowd. “I’m going to go ahead and say it. It’s the elephant in the room. And Joe and I don’t agree on everything. But what I know is, Joe Lieberman’s a man with a good heart, with a keen intellect, who cares about the working families of America. I am absolutely certain that Connecticut’s going to have the good sense to send Joe Lieberman back to the United States Senate.” – Barack Obama
By election day, Zogby, Rasmussen, NBC, WSJ, Bloomberg and every other CORPORATE FASCIST poll will declare McCain has a 110% lead in the polls and Chertoff will outlaw the practice of “Exit Polling” based on some anonymous tip that Al Qaeda has vowed to target blacks leaving their polling places using sleepers described as Exit Poll workers. The GOP has employed a firm called Penn, Schoen, & Berland to skew exit poll results in the past in order to achieve their own political ends.
November 2, 2004: Overcoming a six point exit-poll advantage by Senator John Kerry, George Bush is re-elected President. Several statisticians have calculated the probability of this anomaly as one in a million — in effect, impossible.
Revisit the exit polling data from 2004 and share it with others:

Former Pollster Pleads Guilty to Fabricating Results
Tracy Costin, the former owner of polling company DataUSA Inc., entered a guilty plea to conspiracy to commit mail fraud for fabricating the results of polls the company conduct on behalf of, among others, President Bush in 2004.

David is upstairs
And then came the kick in the teeth by Lieberman. Don’t think for a minute that Obama doesn’t have a score to settle with Joe.
Churchill, before the House of Commons, 4 Jun 1940
Words to live, and fight, by.
If Joe is picked as either VP, or if god forbid st john wins, as sec state, who will become the next senator from CT?
The entire speech. Worth reading.
anyone got stats?
just how effective an attack dog was Lieberman when he was the Democratic Prick?
didn’t Gore feel cheated in that process?
God I hate that man.
Leiberman justabout conceded to Cheney in the veep debate. He probably did it deliberately to torpedo Gore. Was probably a secret R back then.
Interesting thought…That would be worth investigating…Definitely a possibility of a “secret” something for sure!
Let’s hope if he is the Rep. VP choice, that he is as “helpful” to McC as he was to Gore.
