Whatever you do, don’t let Michelle Malkin and her horde of flying wingnut monkeys hear about Henry Cejudo:
Henry Cejudo, the 21-year-old wrestling prodigy who had wrestled in only one world-level senior tournament before Beijing, has won the Olympic gold medal in men’s freestyle 55-kilogram wrestling.
Cejudo, the son of undocumented Mexican aliens who bypassed a college career to try to become an Olympian, assures the United States of winning a freestyle wrestling gold for the ninth consecutive Olympics at which it has competed.
If the nativist wingnuts — the ones demanding the deportation of all 12 million "illegal aliens" (as they like to call them) — get ahold of his parents, they could wind up back in Mexico. Heaven help any children who might be involved.
And Henry himself would not be considered a U.S. citizen under the standard nativist proposal to strip citizenship rights from the American-born children of illegal immigrants. He is, after all, a classic "anchor baby. (Sorta like Malkin herself.)
Instead, they’re all rooting for him and celebrating with him today — as are all the rest of us. Funny how that works.
UPDATE: Henry Fernandez has more at Think Progress.

Wouldn’t that apply to Malkin, too?
Gee, now why would the Anchor Baby want to deny to others what she received?
Why, the next thing you tell me is that some folks who benefited from Affirmative Action will want to do away with it and deny the benefits to others…
Oh, right. Never Mind
Only retroactively — which they haven’t proposed yet. Point is, if that had been law when Henry was born, he’d have been denied citizenship.
So Mexico wins a gold medal in weightlifting. Sounds good to me.
Ah Dave, I disagree. There seems to always be a way to get citizenship declared for outstanding athletes who then represent the US in international competitions.
Not quite as bad as always finding a way to make the football or basketball player eligible and keep them eligible for up to four years of NCAA competition, but close.
Let’s just spend the day dumping on the imperfect, eh?
I’m mad about these things too, but, I think people’s nerves are wound really tight right now — if you haven’t seen last night’s late late night, trust me, we’re wound.
David, this isn’t meant to be a judgement on you, just a comment on where we are.
I see people reacting to “We’re in deep shit”, because McCain’s getting alot of positive press, outside the liberal blogosphere and Obama’s continues to be such a disappointment.
Off to work now for me. Not like I haven’t been working around my house, getting it in order, as it were.
Try to stay sane today pups. It’s a marathon.
There must be a sports clause when it comes to complaining about immigrants taking US jobs.
I have never heard a single Boston fan carp about David Ortiz taking a job away from a US ball player.

One interesting aspect is that somebody like Henry actually serves as a goodwill ambassador to the country of his birth. Americans can’t help but see him as an individual, take pride in his accomplishment, and perhaps feel a twinge of remorse at the way his family and others are treated. It is harder to reduce people to stereotypes after you get to know them. A new crack appears in the wall of hatred that people like Malkin have built.
Obama gets high marks from me – and as far as I can tell, not much attention from anywhere else – for going on vacation and not campaigning during the Olympics. I don’t think I saw a single Obama ad during prime coverage, if at all, whereas McLame was all over my TB screen. I haven’t been watching obsessively, I may have missed stuff.
But still, it’s classy. Shows character.
Digg it.
They would have to change the constitution to do that. Oh yeah and wouldn’t that affect Romney or Juan McCain.
It’s so classy that McSame was able to pull even with Obama in the polls. I know the polls can’t be trusted but now that Obama is back he is on the defensive beating back the attacks of the Republicans and their surrogates in the corporate media. Being classy does not win elections.
He’s also rested and recharged vs a wrinkly white guy who has to limit his campaign appearances to one a day cuz he can’t physically hack it. The difference will be even more apparent now.
I remain optimistic.
New CHS post
there once was an anchor named Merkin
enriched by nativist chains a jerkin’
Jesse, marry me dear
and you’ll find that my rear
is a good place to stick your lil gherkin
hey, y’all were warned three posts back :D
minorities are good just as long as they stay in their place. Sports and entertainment. God forbid that one should try to get out of that segment of society and try something else…..oh, wait.
Au contraire, mon ami! We need to trumpet this loudly and repeatedly to all of these immigrant bashing assholes. The we get to sit back and watch their tiny little heads explode. 8-)
David Ortiz became A U.S. citizen on June 11, 2008. He took the oath of citizenship with 226 other new citizens in Boston. Gee wiz, they all followed the law and became citizens!
To JohnfromBoston,
Do you know how impossible broken the U.S. immigration system is, and that there’s no real way for the vast majority of people to “follow the law” as you have said. Do your research. This law frame is what nativists use to inflict mass terror upon millions of migrants in the U.S., most of them people of color.
I had no idea Michelle Malkin was an “anchor baby” until I read this post. Hilarious. The hypocrisy and the irony just never stop when it comes to the U.S. migration debate.
First off I don’t know if Michelle Malkin is an anchor baby and furthermore I don’t care. I consider her a piece of toxic waste! Secondly, I am the child of immigrants. My mother and paternal grandparents came here from Ireland and during the late Forties, my father sponsored three relatives to come here. They all followed the law.
This being said, a person who knowingly enters this country illegally is breaking the law, though a civil law, it is still a crime. I have a question that is rarely addressed, where is the compassion for the low skilled and un-skilled people who are the first to lose their jobs to illegal immigrants. For example, ten years ago the average wage in the meat packing industry was $20hr. with some benefits, now the average wage is between $9 to $13hr.,with little to no benefits and greatly increased unsafe working conditions. Guess who the vast majority of people were who lost their jobs. Bingo, legal Hispanic immigrants and Hispanic and African Americans. African American women used to be the majority of employees in the chicken processing plants in the South, but not anymore. Wages were cut and illegals were hired. This same economic pattern has taken place in the construction and agriculture sectors. Cesar Chavez was opposed to illegal immigrants, because he knew that the large farmers would use them to break the union, United Farm Workers, lower wages and worsen working conditions. One last point, when immigration reform is addressed, the enviromental impact of the growing population must be part of the equation. In the two areas that are experiencing rapid population growth, the southeast and the southwest, they are also experiencing a chronic drought. Our country has a finite supply of resources and we must plan accordingly. Peace!
