Just last month, Karl Rove was cited for contempt of Congress for refusing to answer questions about alleged wrong-doing ranging from discrimination in hiring practices at the Department of Justice to ignoring subpoenas and lying to Congress. But that hasn’t stopped former Attorney General John Cornyn from embracing Karl Rove. After all, what’s a citation for contempt of Congress when there is special interest money to be raised!

And Karl is happy to do it. After all, John Cornyn has been the administration’s most reliable rubber-stamp in the U.S. Senate. Rove is simply repaying Cornyn for his “near complete fealty to the President. No other U.S. Senator has voted so reliably with the White House in the past six years.”1

The best way I can think of paying back both Karl Rove and John Cornyn for their failed leadership in Washington is to send them both packing this fall. Help get rid of Cornyn and Rove by contributing to Rick Noriega today!

Speaking of El Paso and payback, all of this reminds me of Cornyn’s favors for convicted felon Jack Abramoff and tainted GOP special interest fundraiser Ralph Reed. Unfortunately, Jack Abramoff can’t be at today’s big to-do for John Cornyn. He’s in prison.

As Attorney General, Cornyn shut down the Tigua tribe’s casino in El Paso. The Tiguas were paying Abramoff to lobby on their behalf, to keep their casino open. Meanwhile, Abramoff’s good friend, tainted special interest fundraiser Ralph Reed, was being paid by Abramoff to run an anti-gambling campaign in Texas so that Abramoff could turn around and bilk the Tiguas for even more money to keep their casino open. Unbeknownst to the Tiguas, they were paying for their own opposition through Abramoff.

450 Texans lost their jobs, but Cornyn got an “attaboy” from the two crooked lobbyists for his hard work shutting down the Tigua Casino. Abramoff sent him the maximum campaign donation allowed. But there’s even more special interest intrigue! Cornyn denied ever meeting Reed or Abramoff about the Tiguas, but emails between Reed and Abramoff strongly suggest otherwise.2

This kind of political back scratching is sadly par for the course in Washington, and John Cornyn has done a lot of scratching. Now Karl Rove is coming to El Paso to scratch Cornyn’s back for consistently standing by the President at the expense of Texas families.
