Yesterday evening, John McCain raked in $1.75 million in payola from Ralph Reed’s Georgia cronies. The odious Joe Lieberman was attached to McCain at the hip, praising Saxby Chambliss as a great American (nothing like a little self-promoting toadyism, eh, Joe?).
But no Reed in sight. Hypocrisy, much?
McCain raked in the cash, but Reed — who was hoping to use this as a springboard back to public legitimacy — was publicly relegated to the sidelines. Reports are that McCain didn’t even mention him by name during the event which Reed helped organize. Ouch!
McCain’s been trying to distance himself from Reed since the word got out of his McCain beg letter. Merely ducking a photo op with Mr. "Praise the Lord and Pass the Collection Plate" does not clear the taint from all that dirty cash.
More putrid still? Earlier in the day, Reed spoke to the local Rotary club about the McCain family adopting a child from Bangladesh. The very same Reed who helped smear McCain’s family for said child during the 2000 election as an outside push-polling Rove/Bush surrogate. Classy.
Jeebus, there is no ditch these people will not slink into for money or power, is there?
So, how did Reed get involved in raising $1.75 million in payola? McCain’s campaign asked, according to Reed himself.
Reed e-mailed supporters and friends to urge them to give to the McCain campaign. Reed also instructed potential donors to send contributions directly to him. Reed told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he sent the e-mail at the request of the campaign and was given boilerplate language to use.
McCain’s people knew they were getting in bed with Reed:
Which is why Jamie Reynolds III, chairman of John McCain’s Georgia finance committee, probably did ask Reed to raise cash for the Republican nominee’s fund-raiser in Atlanta on Monday.
This is, in fact, evidence that McCain and his campaign organizers have seen — or should have seen — this coming, this convergence of McCain’s ambition and Reed’s need to reassert his place in the GOP. One does not ask for the help of Reynolds, a long-time supporter and friend to George W. Bush, without knowing that Reed will be involved as well.
Follow the money, indeed. All the way to the skanks.
To hell with scruples or decency or even outright shame at hopping into bed with a man who smeared your family with abandon, who has some of the dirtiest hands and stickiest fingers in all the GOP dirty schemes, money laundering and self-serving pocket-lining and malign use of religion for outright thievery. There’s gold in them thar shills!
So, what’s McCain doing for an encore today? Why, visiting his newest big money donor pals on an oil rig! But the DNC has a truthiness package for reporters traveling with McCain:
With McCain visiting an oil rig in New Orleans today, the DNC also has distributed an Exxon-McCain ’08 kit to reporters. Per the DNC, the kit includes “a limited edition Exxon-McCain ’08 stress ball in the shape of an oil drum (to help alleviate the stress of no longer getting access to the candidate) along with campaign buttons and bumper stickers.”
Ahhhh, good times!
Is it me, or does McCain seem like more bumbly version of Bush corruption without the ability to pull off the slick, scammy veneer? Maverick, my ass.
And while I’m at it, we’re still waiting for an answer on how Jack Abramoff was so damned helpful and cooperative but Ralph Reed and several other weasels are roaming freely? Anyone?

Zed! Jeesh, what a bunch.
Zed?
Hi Christy
That’s about the best overall term for McSFB campaign people and their co-conspirators I can think of.
All that loot and nobody wants to play with him.
;>)
DB!
Long time bro.
Hope all is well.

Anyone notice that neither Lieberman nor Graham have made that pilgrimage to Georgia that “President McCain” boasted of.
WTF?
Did somebody inform him that it would be illegal and highly presumptuous of him to outsource the Secretary of State’s job while playing the role of “Acting Commander In Chief?”
no change for mcshame, he has already hired the swiftboaters and even those who ran the 200 SC smear campaign. Even the person who did the ‘mccain fathered a “black” baby. There is nothing that he will not do to become president. Lie, cheat, steal (kill?)
You know, the sad fact is, the more I dig into this morass of crapitude, the worse it gets. Ugh.
Just a “great American”, not an Eesh Elo Kim? Chambliss must be so pissed.
That was blowhard’s job.
massive background re: Abramoff
Follow the blackmail money.
Okay — show of hands: who thinks Lieberman is going to be the Veep pick for McCain? *raises hand*
Spew, retch, gag.
Whatever it takes to help make this Arizona John’s Last Crusade.
Hat tip TPM.

But on the other hand, it would be a nice display of bipartisanship. /s
‘Destiny, destiny…’
;>)
It is a bit of a wet dream for the Bipartisan Village Idiots. Alas.
And it would get HoJo out of our party ! That’s a big plus.
The sleeze brigade has been forming up. All slime ooze your way on deck
In don’t think so- McCain can’t afford a pro choice pro labor veep pick- the right would crucify him— in a nice way of course
LOL!
It’s either him or Romney. If I were Romney, I wouldn’t turn my back anywhere within 50 feet of Joe, to avoid accidents or tempt fate.
As a bumbly version of Bush, St. McCain will need a VP like Jeb to smooth things out.
Being a Mormon may be too much for the fundies to swallow.
McCain and Lieberman are already in sync extolling the surge and Petraeus and talking victory in Iraq, so I guess Lieberman will be the one.
McCain/Lieberman ticket? I’ve been predicting it for over a year…as evidenced by this flashback:
JINSA presents an annual Distinguished Service Award, named in honor of the late-Senator Henry M. “Scoop” Jackson to U.S. government leaders.
Last year the recipient was General Peter Pace.
This years recipient is none other the AIPAC Butt Boy and USS Liberty Coverup Specialist, JOHN McCain.

Tuesday December 5th, JINSA is proud to honor Senator John McCain with the 24th annual “Scoop Jackson Distinguished Service Award…sponsored by Rolls Royce.

McCain / Lieberman is your future.
DO THE MATH
Possible McCain-Lieberman Alliance
Introducing McCain to a packed ball room of pro-Israel business executives, defense contractors, and Washington insiders, was Sen. Joseph Lieberman, fresh from being re-elected as an independent after losing the Democratic Party primary in Connecticut.
Lieberman’s glowing tribute to his Republican colleague did not go unnoticed. “McCain-Lieberman? There’s something to that,” JINSA board member Morris J. Amitay told the crowd.

Cheney has made the OVP the most powerful office in the land in preparation for Holy Joe’s arrival. AIPAC is all over this one.
Yes, but Romney comes with gushing KLo posts about his dazzling smile and luscious locks…so that’s pretty much a recipe for fun on our end of things, isn’t it? *g*
Lieberweasel is running for “secretary of whatever gives me the most money in the shortest possible time”
McBush realizes that if he wins- his veep will be the next gooper candidate for pres- so he needs someone who is in the gooper mainstream
I didn’t even have to dig into the manure pile to know what skanks these people are. Your digging, and that of others, gives us info to do battle with the skanks, however. For that I will be forever grateful.
Short Ride as VP choice? *raises hand* Just too good to be true moment it will be.
As for the GOP’s use of fundraising generally and Abramoff’s role specifically:
Tony Rudy, a onetime aide to former Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas), referred to Mehlman on Nov. 9, 2001, as a “rock star” after Mehlman agreed to “take care of” the Choctaws’ jail, despite a Justice Department finding that the tribe’s existing jail was adequate.
Several days after that meeting, on Nov. 13, Rudy recommended a $15,000 contribution to the Republican National Committee. “Let’s give the check to Ken Mehlman at the White House,” wrote Rudy, who later pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges in the broader investigation.
When Justice Department officials relented and released the money for the jail, giddy Abramoff associates planned to host agency officials in a suite at a Dave Matthews concert.
“I have the suite filling up with DOJ staffers who just got our client $16 million,” one wrote. Another replied that the agency officials deserve any reward they want, “opening day tickets, Skins v. Giants, oriental massages, hookers, whatever.”

THIS is what Blackmail thrives on.
i’ll go with either lieberman or elizabeth cheney
I remember reading several years ago that he was going to hire the people who did such a great job against him with the whisper campaign.
He’s been slowly bringing them on board as “unofficial advisors” including both Rove and Mehlman. Who says there is no honor among thieves, eh?
Will the Repubs be angry if McC picks a Dem (in name only, of course)? Seems to me they would be but I really don’t know.
So if Lieberman gets chosen as McCain’s VP, Harry Reid’s reaction would be
A) praise McCain for his choice
B) praise Lieberman for his bipartisanship
C) do nothing
D) all of the above
Other than a little talking and blog commenting, I’ve been doing nothing more politically than voting (so I’m a misfit here). I did my little bit (no praise deserved or expected), by voting in the primary and the runoff, to provide Chambliss with some worthy (I hope) opposition, Jim Martin.
That was a hard confession to make, given my geolocation aversion.
mommy, what is the difference between Democrats and Republicans ?
the democrats are the ones with the nictating membranes
that’s a republican over in the corner eating it’s own
Good Morning Christy,
your “getting in bed with Reed” link contains this nugget some of the firedogs might miss:
Mr Croy has put together a 9/27 Savannah fundraiser with yep . . .Reed as the featured Speaker
D. It takes a village.
that’s why i have trouble seeing mcsame pick lieberman – although i expect lieberman is counting on it.
bottom line – i have no idea. but mcsame will need his cheney – so why not a real one?
When you stop and think about it that’s a really interesting dynamic. The need to succeed (win) at any cost. With its natural strings attached.
bingo!
It’s disgusting, and I think if I were Cindy McCain I would be thinking of the many ways I could help bring about their downfall.
Teach them to drag an innocent child into a whisper campaign.
Quite fun, indeed!
Do you actually think that Cindy McCain has a conscience?
Shall we all actually assume that McCain is really in charge of “picking” his VP? Do you really believe that Gore “picked” Lieberman?
More likely, AIPAC picked Lieberman two years ago to be VP, and they’ve just been going through the motions to position the right front-man.
Here’s the even more amusing set of questions. Lieberman will most likely be speaking at the GOP convention. If McCain does NOT pick him to be Veep, (a) what will Lieberman have extracted from him not to shat upon McCain while at the podium in his most sanctimonious, underhanded and manipulative backhanded tone and (b) will Liebermen be able to resist throwing in a dig or two out of ego and pique even if he does extract some agreement for personal gain if he is denied the Veep prize he so clearly is lobbying for at the moment?
The fundies won’t consider Joe saved and that’s big with them. The whole thing is so interesting but I can’t see him picking Joe either – but what do I know.
Blech, ick, yuk. Reed is like The Thing That Wouldn’t Leave. (cue sinister music..now)
Oh, but he’s quite the Zionist and being Jewish on top of that makes it okie dokie with the fundies.
Lieberman was selected by the Gore campaign to be Veep pick in 2000 — which, by my count, would be about 8 years ago, not two. And by every account from people inside the campaign Gore selected him with a nudge from Tipper, who had worked with him on the music-labeling campaign a few years earlier, among others in the campaign who had been pals of Joe. Word is that Tipper regrets that these days — a LOT.
I’m not sure he’s ok. He can’t even pretend to love jeebus the way Bush pretends.
Repubs letting off steam
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ix08xQb7_G4
Back in 2000, Lieberman had a completely different image from the one he has today.
But when the rapture comes he would have to convert to be saved and that might slow the process…..it’s all too overwrought for me :)
ouch.
i may have to watch that one.
Who knows?
What I was talking about here was about their adopted child. She has said (I can’t remember where I read this) that McCain might be all “bygones” about that incident, but she definitely had not forgotten it.
Back to being a wage slave.
Namaste.
Breaking news from CHS
Saying that probably makes St. McCain swear at her.
“She” meaning Cindy McCain, that is.
I bet that’s not exactly a novel experience for her.
Well, how could you not still be pissed? If it were my child…well, I can’t say publicly what I’d want to do, but it would be good and ugly. Who attacks a child except some heartless jackass with no soul? (Or Malkin.)
Man, wouldn’t it be something if Cindy torpedoed the campaign in Oct.
We’ve lost both engines, Cap’n, we’re dead in the water.
Capsizing.
Down, stern first.
Debris.
The Georgian Prez pissed on their parade when he invited Biden over.
The Republics may be looking for any excuse to swap out St. McCain by then.
When she was young she was just a selfish, rich girl but then she blossomed into a woman and full blown vindictiveness.
Christy, isn’t that redundant?
Not sure where I read it but she has been claiming to be an only child forever. Seems her father, a WWII pilot, was married had a daughter then dumped and married Cindy’s mom. He had supported Cindy’s sister w/ $ and a credit card. When he died Cindy who was supposed to be in charge sent her sister 10K and canceled the card.
lol. i think it was hugh who commented on that yesterday.
campaign letter from rick noriega about cornyn’s fundraising–and rove and reed and abramoff.
i forgot cornyn is a former attorney general..
Dear —-,
What do Karl Rove, convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff and tainted GOP special interest fundraiser Ralph Reed have in common? John Cornyn!
Today, Karl Rove arrives in El Paso to raise even more special interest money to add to John Cornyn’s special interest campaign warchest.
Help us send a nice welcome message to Karl Rove when he arrives today. Contribute to Rick Noriega’s campaign!
http://www.ricknoriega.com/karlroveiscoming
Just last month, Karl Rove was cited for contempt of Congress for refusing to answer questions about alleged wrong-doing ranging from discrimination in hiring practices at the Department of Justice to ignoring subpoenas and lying to Congress. But that hasn’t stopped former Attorney General John Cornyn from embracing Karl Rove. After all, what’s a citation for contempt of Congress when there is special interest money to be raised!
And Karl is happy to do it. After all, John Cornyn has been the administration’s most reliable rubber-stamp in the U.S. Senate. Rove is simply repaying Cornyn for his “near complete fealty to the President. No other U.S. Senator has voted so reliably with the White House in the past six years.”1
The best way I can think of paying back both Karl Rove and John Cornyn for their failed leadership in Washington is to send them both packing this fall. Help get rid of Cornyn and Rove by contributing to Rick Noriega today!
http://www.ricknoriega.com/karlroveiscoming
Speaking of El Paso and payback, all of this reminds me of Cornyn’s favors for convicted felon Jack Abramoff and tainted GOP special interest fundraiser Ralph Reed. Unfortunately, Jack Abramoff can’t be at today’s big to-do for John Cornyn. He’s in prison.
As Attorney General, Cornyn shut down the Tigua tribe’s casino in El Paso. The Tiguas were paying Abramoff to lobby on their behalf, to keep their casino open. Meanwhile, Abramoff’s good friend, tainted special interest fundraiser Ralph Reed, was being paid by Abramoff to run an anti-gambling campaign in Texas so that Abramoff could turn around and bilk the Tiguas for even more money to keep their casino open. Unbeknownst to the Tiguas, they were paying for their own opposition through Abramoff.
450 Texans lost their jobs, but Cornyn got an “attaboy” from the two crooked lobbyists for his hard work shutting down the Tigua Casino. Abramoff sent him the maximum campaign donation allowed. But there’s even more special interest intrigue! Cornyn denied ever meeting Reed or Abramoff about the Tiguas, but emails between Reed and Abramoff strongly suggest otherwise.2
• November 12, 2001: Ralph Reed to Jack Abramoff: “Get me the details so I can alert Cornyn and let him know what we are doing to help him.” [Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, 4/15/08]
• November 13, 2001: Ralph Reed to Abramoff: “I strongly suggest we start doing patch-throughs to Perry and Cornyn.” [Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, 4/15/08]
• January 7, 2002: Ralph Reed to Jack Abramoff “We have choreographed Cornyn’s Response.” [Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, 4/15/08]
This kind of political back scratching is sadly par for the course in Washington, and John Cornyn has done a lot of scratching. Now Karl Rove is coming to El Paso to scratch Cornyn’s back for consistently standing by the President at the expense of Texas families. Help Rick fight back against Rove and Cornyn’s special interest friends.

Thank you for standing up for Rick Noriega and Texas families.
Sincerely,
Martine Apodaca
Communications Director
Rick Noriega for U.S. Senate
i’ve long thought this – in fact, that he was promised this back in 2000 – that’s why he threw the VP debate, sabotaged the recount, and has been an R mole ever since.
