ZED
you must have fog on your mind up there on the Oregon coast, Suz
3rd?
Hey, ES, waitin’ up for you.
zed is dead
there is no zed
I’m as accurate as you, nahant! ;-)
NO ZED but A Digg instead!
have had fog 3 of the 4 days i’ve been here (laughing) good thing i like fog
thanks for opening the digg nahant
how’s everyone tonight?
Goodyear is having a bad year.
-G
you are stuck with me tonight dwr
I was trying Butt.t. Neuro snuck in :>)
So Ct How do you feel about your girl Rachel getting her own show??
Hey, Suzanne, still amazed that you did all that cleaning and pod-packing and driving and managed to jump right back into the routine. Fog is good on a hot summer day….plenty of it down in so.cal too.
nahant Digged it and I Dugged it
neuro, those links were to a non digg site.. wanna try again?
well, I think it is great news…I hope she reads FDL and knows we were rooting for her…and if so, I hope she keeps reading it to keep her edge
Suzanne, I hope you got to watch lots of the diving……any that you’ll be using in your repertoire? I look forward to it.
eh?
nevermind, lurk fixed em
my mouse must have failed me…try this
I suspect that reading FDL will be a pretty good preview for her show.
Conservatism in all its glory!
It only gets more wonderfully stupid from there.
i really shudda taken a few more down days but i didn’t wanna miss sat nite cartoons so i jumped back and hit the ground running.
the move crap tired me out more than the drive. i used to drive for a living (if ya think about it driving a patrol car for 10 or 11 hours is driving for a living)and really enjoy driving. i think the drive tired me because i was so tired from the move.
luckily, lurk has been a rock.
If I had a boat, I’d go out on the ocean, and if I had a pony, I’d ride it on my boat I am not afraid of plunger!
g’evening, Firepups!
Suze, congrats on the move!
Boy howdy, lots of overtime is nice but it sure cuts into time i could be using hanging out on threads *g* cut out early tonight, only 10.5 hrs *g*
perhaps you were replying to DWR1 @ 15?
not that I don’t want to hear about it…
It’s all that Rugby training he’s been doing….
that one worked :)
Perfect choice, Suz. I really dig Scruggs style picking.
BTW, ready for a care package?
Get ready for another storm tomorrow Suzanne.
Just a hint, I lived close by for many years, watch the radar of the storm patterns that come out of the Gulf of Alaska, they swirl counter clockwise and slam into the Oregon coast between you and Coos Bay, EVERY TIME.
I can remember Jane telling us how she was sitting there with the dogs and candles burning with storms raging more than a few times.
On a brighter note, you should still have phone service and they are used to that down there.
Call up the local pizza joint and order a Kobe Special and tell them to deliver it.
You’ll be good to go.
oh crap
you are correct… my apologies to all for the confusion
hey ndfg, how’s it going?
hi ndfg!
nope, don’t have a mailing address until i find permanent housing
I changed a flat tire on the interstate today…on the driver’s side..during late afternoon city traffic
that will build your fortitude, if you survive it
hiya busted! Hows life chez busted?
Been foggy here in the Midlands most nights recently, well into the mornings. Must be in solidarity with you, Suz!
hi Kirk!
Oh how nice to see you here, NDFG!
busted, i like rain and storms. this place only gets 5 inchs more a year than the little cottage by the creek in the redwoods did – 80″ here is annual and 75″ there. i’ve been watching the radar and the satellite – i’ve turned into a weather junkie in my old age. even brought up my fancy smancy weather system the bride bought me for xmas a couple years ago when my old one died.
I’ve always loved that word solidarity
hi margot! i’ve been so overwhelmed with work i haven’t even been by fb lately. hows life?
yikes
is why i have triple a
Hey you!
I was just over at the beach house.
I told them to say howdy yesterday or the day before, time kinda blurs together anymore, but I hadn’t got back over there.
How are ya Hon’?
hey! nothing wrong with being a weather junkie *g*
Ever dealt with 130 mph winds right on the beach?
It happens.
Syria’s Assad to visit Moscow on Thursday.
Now to see if Russia is willing offer more assistance to Syria in light of the Israeli military support of Georgia.
My guess is Syria will bet some bright shiny new missile systems.
It’s a win/win for the war racketeers.
-G
Get.
me too – am partial to this one myself
i’m swamped with work, a place i help out occasionally is having a record-smashing quarter, I’ve been putting in 55-60 hrs a week, not as much as the full-time help, ghod/dess help ‘em. But better too much work than not enough.
I barely have time to listen to Spook give me a recap of beach house posts before i’m snoring and seeing art files in my dreams.
I feel as if I am in solidarity with you, N. We can have discussions and not put one another down; like it should be.
i’m not on the beach and am only supposed to get winds of 50 tonight.
No rest for the wicked!
I must have been Ghengis Khan in a previous life……
g’night pups, can’t tell you how wonderful it is to have a moment to drop by and seeing y’all keeping community alive. *waves*
Honey, I’m just saying, it can get pretty wild around there.
g’nite ndfg – nice seeing ya again
Crikey! And I hardly knew ye.
sleep well, ndfg – say hi to the spook from me and kittehs….
Gnite Farm Girl, ya got a New Deal going for ya, I wish ya the best, say Howdy to The Spook.
Night NDF.
-G
i wonder if al the spook is gonna stop by – they usually show up in tandem
that’s a great one, Suzanne. don’t recall seeing/hearing it before.
we’ve been deep in the Big Muddy for what, almost eight years now?
wasn’t the Smothers Brothers show wonderful?
agreed, cleanth
we are and they were – and considered too dangerous to have on the teevee.
The wind is so light for the women’s race, the commentator observed that you need the skills of a rower just to move the board. It was complete sleaze to paint this as an effete sport in 2004, but you knew this already.
neuro, margot turned me on to that big muddy – she has a buttload of pete songs she lays on the threads (along with some great stones stuff too)
I wonder what’s up with DiFi sitting out the Democratic convention.
My tenth grade biology teacher was kind of a free thinker. You never knew what he was going to come up with to fortify our impressionable minds. It was in that class that I first heard a Pete Seeger record played. Several decades ago…
in the news box – karma is a bitch
read the link in my 70 npb (waving)
Speaking of kittehs……
She probably didn’t want to get heckled with “Thanks for Mukasy, asshole” jeers.
-G
spewing at just the title busted!
Oro per la cinese: argento per Sensini l’azzurra: brava.
yeah–you notice it was her *left* ankle she broke

hi all!
been utterly swamped with the new place (both physical and virtual) but glad I can drop by and say hi!
am getting a post up so i’ll be around a bit.
must be either spanish or italian, my guess the latter
Italiano:
Gold for the Chinese: silver for Sensini the blue: good.
you mean tauscherus rex?
DiFi’s sole saving grace to this cranky constituent is she the conventional wisdom she is not expected to seek reelection and retire in 2012.
Gnite Doc, rub ‘em backwards fer me.
spook! i knew you would show up (laughing)
sounds like her “left” ankle already has
Hiya Spook, Nice to see through ya!
thanks newton
Ewan MacColl, who married Peggy Seeger, was, as was Pete Seeger, blacklisted and not allowed to enter the USA. He has a wonderful discography of protest songs, mining/union songs, and is the best a capella ranter of Scottish songs and ballads I have ever heard. Ewan, a big, bearded man, would incline his head back, tilt it a bit, cup a hand to one ear, and let rip.
Ewan also made some famous {in certain circles ;-)} films.
I can send Suz cds of a lot of his stuff. If Firepups are not familiar with it, they will be glad to discover this material.
Poste restante, Suz?
i only speak english and am fairly deft at translating male into english. wanna translate that last for me?

Albert Lee is a BAD MAN!

Hey, Al, are ya doing something special for somebody next week…? ;-)
1,738 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Suzanne and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
What a great nite here at the lake, the Raven is back on our flyway and Sister Suzanne’s got Lord Scruggs bringin down the bluegrass scriptures and Crazy John McCain continues ta make a parody of himself playin’ “commanderguy”…ah, I don’t even mind workin’ this mornin’…can’t get any better unless my son and I catch a few Walleyes with our Smallmouth tomorrow.
Let’s turn it out here folks…if I gotta stay we gotta have some kick ass fun here anywayz.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, THE BASTARDS WON’R GO UNLESS WE KICK THEIR SORRY ASSES BACK INTA THE 19TH CENTURY WHERE THEY CAME FROM!!
dayam, that guy, you are the first to comment on the who’s who of music in that video.
albert lee is very bad – didja catch that grin on his face?
hey norske, fishing is balm for the soul as my daddy used to say
Fishing tomorrow, eh, Norske? Sounds great! Aloha!
putting a quarter in the jukebox for brother norske
And who is that guy in the corner on the Black Guard Tele?
What a lineup, Jerry Douglas on dobro, Vinnie, Albert, Randy and Earl, Marty Stuart on mando.
Who was that white haired guy playing the banjo? (YES, I REALLY DO KNOW!)
Vinnie sounded a lot like Albert on this – the influence is very obvious.
Hey SUze, ol’ Vinnie’s guitar looks like one I did recently.
Yeah, I did model it after Vinnie’s guitar. It’s the Vinniecaster.
from the some friends link in the post:
My father, a hard driving lawyer, also ran garment sweatshops. I, of course, was a union man in my mother’s womb. We used to attend a tailor, an Andy Capp type of Brit. He was a big union organiser when he lived in the UK, and he hated my father, as well he might do. My father was an effective union buster. He obtained a court order from a judge pal of his stipulating that a certain high profile garment workers’ union could not organise any shop my father had an interest in–ever. Well, this wonderfully named Barney Shear, he gave me Max Stirner’s *The Ego And His Own* [underline function not working tonight]. Stirner was an proto individualist and an anarchist, you might say. Famed in nihilist and anarchist circles of the old school. My father told me it was me or the book: I could no longer reside under his roof if I kept such things and he took it as disrespect. I moved in with Mr Shear for several weeks! I was quite young, not ready to leave home permanently, you see.
Later, the old man banned I F Stone’s Weekly. I moved out for good and for all. No way would I give up Izzy Stone!
Ah, but I am not one of the elect: I do not have posting privileges. /s
There will be some bluegrass in Iraq (I’m not assuming there’s not now). My young relative is getting to take his instrument over. His brother, who’s been over and come back, named some of the recorded songs he was exposed to while over there. Some live bluegrass is likely to be welcome.
have you ever asked for them?
We speak another language…? ;-)
It is Italian, Suz, but, as offered, it is inchorent in the second clause. Something must be missing.
Suz, that is how they call General Delivery in the post office.
what kinda instrument?
no post office – closest one is in another town 4 miles away
Another quarter in the jukebox
The Red Elvises
bangles
okay post is done. night to everyone!
*poof*
When I signed up here this time, I made enquiries and was told that a venue would be starting to accommodate posts from such as me. That would be Oxdown Gazette.
g’nite althespook
why yes, now that you mention it! I’m taking ndfg to the Minnesota State Fair. And we’re having a belated double birthday celebration. Thanks for asking!
Blogwhoring, eh, Spook? Two can play that game… $10.9 Bil To Be Spent On Arms For The Iraqi Army…
Aloha, Al!
That is wonderful: really away from extraneous things.
( FDL is, of course, one of life’s essentials. To us political junkies.)
oxdown has been, unfortunately, delayed while the tech squad goes through all the code – we hope to have it (and our other bells and whistles) up soon
After thinking briefly (as usual), I don’t think they’ll punish him to punish me for not lauding the surge or for criticizing the Decider or something, so I’ll say: banjo.
Jez wondering since the young lady and I share the same birthday…! ;-)
banjo.. sigh love banjo…
Citizen CTuttle:
Yer site is balm fer sore eyes…keep the faith brother and we’ll get it done this time.
Btw, Al you need to change your profile and plug in your new beachhouse site url…!
Hillary was in Espanola, NM today
oh goodies, how many candles ct?
Why thank you, Norske! I really appreciate it…! 8-)
Too many…! ;-)
i am SO loving shawn johnson’s peace symbol earrings in the interview airing now on the west coast
Haha! I was in Espanola with Kesey and Wavy Gravy during my crazy salad days! Brings back memories, Margot.
That was supposed to be a reply to Suzanne’s question @ 114, “what kinda instrument?”
glad to see her working in support of obama. and for bill richardson also – showing no hard feelings is hard after losing.
I’m still waiting for that myself…
is there a white van parked outside messing with your tubes? if so, ignore the nasty enn ess aaa types – they are looking for snacks and have been cut off.
Back from starting to set up the Alaska Democratic Party booth at the state fair. Then dinner, where we sat around exchanging King crab stories.
Gotta go out and get more red-white & blue paint in the morning. Does anyone sell it that way in one can?
as their evil masters will be in about 5 months…
if we are gonna blogwhore, then i just have to mention the freeway patrol cartoon over at my place
hey ET, how are the Alaska Republican Party Scandals doing up there?
et! any more indictments?
Gotta love Huckleberry Hound…! ;-)
They’re limiting out. If they were fish instead of politicians, we’d have to be throwing ‘em back in by now. I’ve heard numbers as high as fifty total, by the time it is over.
The kitties have had their late night snackies and are now in their post-prandial slumbers.
I was supposed to be working on a manuscript the past couple of nights, and instead could not tear myself away from FDL.
I was thinking of getting down to work now, but the sight of my beloved cats sacked out so fetchingly gets me every time: I am going to join them now, wishing you all a good night.
g’nite cleanth
Nighters, Suz. XXOO
Open a PO Box…suggesting did it when I was homeless.
Is Stevens trial the only one to be held in DC, or will Young join him there too…?
don’t plan on being at this temp place long enough. i hope to start my search after the conventions – i’ll be busy here during both.
Suzanne, I just watched the Freeway Patrol toon at your place.
I just realized, Huckleberry Hound is a blue dog.
I hope he hasn’t been voting for the Bush agenda…
hahahahaha
that why he got the d list treatment at my place instead of the a list treatment being front paged here (laughing) never did trust that dog… but i sure enjoy laughing at him
horton had a forking great hibar routine. wow!
Here’s an hour-long interview my close friend Steve Heimel did today with Sen. Stevens for Alaska Public Radio Network. It has call-in. I’m finally listening to it now.
Yeah. With that difficulty, surprised he’s in second.
Great and dangerous routine.
i always gasp when they fall like that.
What a pompous ass! Ripping into the vile Dems for not allowing them to exploit all those natural resources…!
didn’t the medals used to the solid whatever they were – looks like the gold is smaller and encased in a larger holder.
or am i too tired and mis-remembering again?
Weird things happen at times. I usually attribute them to one of my numerous user errors. Usually …
I try not to leave a viable trail of bread crumbs most of the time, which approach is not well received at some blogs and boards.
Heh, the first caller outta the gate asking him how’s he paying for his legal defense…! ;-)
ok, pups, the wall has been officially hit. g’nite all and thanks for hanging with me tonight. everyone put on your rugby shirts and keep lurk on his toes.
Pfffffft!
Aloha, Suz!
i saw that.. wonder if this is why lurk is a’scared of rugby players
*poof*
You’d better activate that brain bleach sprinkler system, Suz!!!
Bring on the girls – they are a much better ‘opponents.’
It’s dynamite news (that she’ll have her own show, right after Countdown). Any step toward sanity in the MSM is very important.
I’ve often wondered how people I read and listen to gather all of the information that they do. That includes FDL’s front-pagers, Rachel (whom I listen to on my way home from work), Olbermann (whom I watch nearly every night), and Glenn Greenwald (whom I follow daily).
For example, today, McCain critized Obama for wanting to be president for reason of pure personal ambition. Tonight, Olbermann had a passage from a book by McCain where he said exactly the same thing of himself, and a talking-book version of it with McCain doing the reading. What kind of a staff does it take to find all of this?
I’ve never used Lexis/Nexis, which I’m told is something like google-on-steroids. Maybe that’s how they manage to come up with this stuff. Anyway, they all really impress me.
It is great news.
Wondering about her format – following KO will be interesting. But Abrams show usually started with a torque on something(s) Keith did and sagged into gossip and the useless “who won the day” crap.
Rachel would be tremendous sharing Countdown with KO, as I had thought she would do just a couple of days ago. But smart cookie that she is, and the license MSNBC gives her (her ratings are going to be astounding), she will be fine.
Too bad Suz is poofed…was an excellent video foggy mtn breakdowm. After my USMC hitch I was in the Western hills of Va near W VA one evening I was invited to a moonshiner cabin where in this very small cabin they “played’ and drank white lightening. These were people that were poertrayed in “Thunder Road” Robert Mitchum the storuof revenuers chasing runners yhrough the windy canyons of those Blue Grass mountains. Nothing like the real thing. Their tabacco allotments were their livelihood whner that was taken it was runnin whiskey some had relatives in the “Pen”.
I suspect that she’ll go a bit deeper into things and have somewhat more scholarly guests, as opposed to the journalists and political consultants that Matthews and Olbermann seem to favor, e.g., Alter, Wolffe, Fineman, Robinson, etc.
That’s been one of my favorite movies ever since it first came out in, what, the 1957/58 timeframe.
i’m out, pups
take care of the joint
Whay a day when you can learn vast amounts of data. The Caucauses and the Central Asian politics are not known much in the good ol’ USA, Who the Georgian premier is, another puppet government to control a region for the resource corporate wars. All those countries North of Iran around the Caspian Sea Oil deposits that we want to take ala Jim Baker and his Texas oil law firm that are making deals in the door step of Russia. There were great links today on the lake. It is great we are resource pool of info that is little know but vital to understanding what policies are doing.
It is interesting that the Oil Oligarchy, born from the vertical trust of standard oil, is unwilling to share it’s massive wealth with the country which has provided the military protection for their global usurpation of resources.
I like Obama saying he would tax their greedy butts and pay the war debt.
The most successful societies have a social democracy, Still have a capital economy and a social safety net for low income folks. No restive population. The Mazlow hierarchy of needs is met.
Quick drive by: had to get up to pee.
I lived at one time outside of Charlottesville, up in the hills past Free Union. I used to hear this knocking booming at night. I was informed that this was a thump barrel. Part of a still. I finally met these moonshining neighbours and they took me to Galax, for an old time fiddler’s convention. Moonshine and banjos. I was in clover!
Later, they had me over for a day of pigging out. They slaughter a pig in the morning, and all day long dishes made of the hapless pig are brought on. Actually, one dish was more than enough for me. hey wash it down with moonshine. They thought that “Yankees” were something to take the mickey out of, and they did!
1,738 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen wigwam:
I don’t know, but I’m hopin’ Rachel will bring on intellects whether scholarly or not…I find most academics to be tedious and distracted from listenin’ to themselves on their earphones for better fidelity. I really don’t care though because there are so many smart and informed folks out there who have sumpthin’ ta say and some real experiences ta relate ideas to that she can’t go wrong…also I’m hoppin’ that a lotta the “better
sorry I’llcomplete thye thought later
The best thing is they all got each others back. Loyalty, brotherhood and honesty was needed to survive those hard conditiond that still exist in Appalachia today. I imagine from what I have read today that is much like the Balkans. People in poor rural America have to hunt rabbits, squirrels and fish to feed their families. A medical insident is devastating. Youe hounds are your early warning system, help you find game and are your companion. Unfortunately these areas have a low education level. They also have little clout in the political system.
Attaturk is up!
Well, that is a no brainer
And, whatever clout they have seems to be directed against their own class interests: http://firedoglake.com/2008/08…..-strategy/
